It's about time for another review of my favorite local sushi spot! The food and service have been amazing since the day I've been coming here many years ago. They recently had an interior upgrade, which gives them a nice new look that is very clean and modern. Despite inflation, their prices continue to be very fair. The quality of their food continues to be exceptional, and the portion sizes are generous. If you like chicken teriyaki bowls or katsu plates, they will definitely fill you up. And the staff has always been very friendly and hospitable, I come here at least once or twice a week. If you're a local and haven't stopped by here, then you've been really missing out. Sushi Plus has become one of our go-to spots in Fountain Valley. We've been here multiple times and every visit has been consistently great. The quality of the food really stands out, especially the freshness. The poke bowl in particular is one of the best I've had--everything tastes clean, fresh, and high quality, and you can tell the fish is handled well. Because of the size, you don't need to over-order. For two people, 3 rolls (or a small combination of rolls and nigiri) is usually plenty. My partner and I ordered a lot while it was pretty busy, so it understandably took a long time for them to prepare the entire order. They were so kind and made sure to update us on which dishes they were still waiting on. They also gave us free ramune drinks due to the long wait!!! Excellent Bento Boxes & Consistently Great Service! Sushi Plus is our go to spot for lunch, and we can't say enough good things about it! We always call in our order, and it's always ready on time.. Love that it's right across the street from work, makes it so convenient. The bento boxes are amazing, our favorites are the salmon, the sesame chicken, and the lobster roll. Everything is always fresh, flavorful, and well-portioned. The sesame chicken is perfectly crispy and not too sweet, the salmon is tender and cooked just right, and the lobster roll is rich and delicious. Love Sushi Plus! The food is so good and I had a really good time with my grandma. What made it even better was our server Yukon. He was relatable and on task with our every need and also made my grandma laugh which is kind of hard to do sometimes. It was a really surreal moment and Im making the best out of the time I have left with her. I hope Yukon understands that his empathy and service has become a core memory for both me and my grandma. We waited 45 minutes to get our drinks and we had to ask cause he completely forgot about us there. We got our food before we got our drinks. The guys next to us were attended to immediately and very fast unlike us. Then we ordered the S.B.S roll and the scallops were wayyy under cooked. They melted in our mouth. With scallops are supposed to be a little tough. For how long we waited for our food it should've been more cooked. He kept ignoring us. Affordable, high-quality sushi with some of the best hand rolls I've had in years. The hand rolls were packed with huge pieces of fresh fish plus avocado and cucumber -- generous portions and incredibly fresh. Honestly, everything we ordered was delicious. This hidden gem is hands down the BEST sushi in town. Nestled in Fountain valley near Turner's outdoor, this is a must try for all you sushi lovers. Everything on the menu is always fresh and delicious. Specialty rolls are ALL amazing. Make sure to ask for " fresh wasabi" to add a nice touch to your sushi. They can get busy at times, but this is mostly during dinner hours and also because they do phone orders for pickup which is actually a convenient option. That being said, It did take awhile to be served but again, well worth the wait. Our server Yukon was super helpful and very attentive to all our needs. He had a great attitude, was prompt, friendly and even offered shrimp tempura on the house for our wait. Ambiance is relaxing and very casual. Come as you are. It has that small-town warmth that makes you feel like family every time you walk through the door. The restaurant is quaint and always clean. The location has great natural air flow and a very calm, sweet decoration style. I feel very comfortable coming in work clothes or casual attire. (But most often come for the more casual vibe.) As someone with celiac disease, finding a place that takes gluten-free dining seriously can be hard--but Karen, Yukon, and the whole team go above and beyond. They remember my dietary needs, take every precaution they can, and I have gotten sick. I always feel safe eating here, and that peace of mind means everything. I grew up in this area and always passed by but never tried it. Well I'm glad I finally did! Top notch customer service. Waiters make you feel so welcomed and are genuine about it. The garlic edamame was addicting. I got the crabby roll which was tasty. I also got tuna and salmon sushi. While the rice was kinda hard and not soft, the fish was fresh and was a good cut. The cucumber salad was refreshing. I love the traditional "back to basics" feel here, nothing too fancy like newer sushi spots. It's small and homey here. Called in and ordered 8 pieces of salmon sushi & one spicy tuna roll to go. I called in at 7:15 they said it won't be available for 40 mins. I said that's ok. We got there at 8ish, since we know they're a small restaurant (and from past experience with previous times as well we usually have to wait a little longer). Came in to pick up, they just had me pay as if the food was ready. It wasn't. After I finished paying then they said your food is not ready , we only have 1 chef and we had a full house earlier. Which I looked around and there were 2 tables occupied ‍. They told me to go to my car and they'll bring it out. We had to wait for another 15 mins (with our kids in the car ‍), which make it an hour for 8 pieces of salmon and a roll? They didn't start making the rolls til we got there and pay. It's unacceptable how this business is running. We are reasonable customers but we refuse to give business to places like this. We're all about supporting small businesses, but not businesses like this place. Take it however as you will, but that's based on our recent experience (we overlooked the past). Hope they'll re-evaluate the way their business is being operated for them to last longer. read more

Always said we should try sushi plus and we finally have. My wife and I just finished our Costco run and for some reason, I felt like sushi. Sushi Plus pops up and now's a good time. We ordered a Bob Marley, backed lobster and a Washington. Of the three, I favored the Bob Marley the most. Good rice to fish ratio and the rolls are nice size. I liked the spicy tuna/ eel combo. Baked lobsters backed full of shrimp and crawfish. My wife's favorite. The Washington was okay. I ordered it for my wife because she likes salmon. She said if was okay. Staff is friendly and the ambiance is average. We'll definitely be back to try some other rolls and the bento boxes. If you've ever driven by and said, " I should try Sushi Plus", you should. Decent sushi. The Las Vegas roll is coated in tempura and lightly fried. I truly does stay nice and light. Inside is salmon, two types of tuna, avocado, and a touch of cream cheese. Perfect! The Volcano roll starts with a California roll including bits of jalapeno inside. Then it's topped with salmon and spicy tuna, including a little dot of chili sauce. Overall a perfect level of spiciness. Great! The Crunch Washington roll unfortunately was very blah. It's basically a California roll with shrimp inside and salmon outside. Had high hopes for this place considering it was 4 stars. This place is 2.5 to 3 stars to me. Any sushi spot that makes big cut rolls that are not bite size are makes me iffy. On top of that, the fish cuts were messy and not precise. We ordered a dragon roll, salmon roll, spider hand roll (they messed up the order and gave us a spider roll, no worries), and a yellowtail hand roll. The spider roll that we ordered was stinky and tasted like it was going bad. The salmon roll was messy and un proportional sizes, fish didn't taste fresh. The dragon roll was the better tasting out of the 3. It's decent takeout or somewhere to eat if you're just hungry, but I highly recommend going somewhere else for sushi. read more

Bf and I found this hidden gem and so glad we did. I was a bit sus with nobody updating a menu on yelp for 5 years...(i added March 2024 menu). This place is small with less than 8 seats at sushi bar and about maybe 6 dining tables. BF and I arrived on Wednesday night at 7pm and waited 15 minutes for a table. We ordered the jalapeño bomb, baked Alaskan, double Hawaiian, lobster roll and the fisherman. Everything was fresh and delicious. I loved the fisherman with the garlic. We were enjoying our dinner when Karen, sushi chef came out to talk to us. She has been working here for many years and was pleasant and sweet. I had to order my classic "dessert" sushi, spicy scallop hand roll. This dish in particular is what makes or breaks my decision to come back to a sushi establishment. The seaweed that was used for this hand roll I believe was not of greatest quality, however they don't use bay scallops here and the scallops was juicy, plump, and tasted delicious when eaten using chopsticks. Not sure if it was Hokkaido scallops or not but I would definitely come back and order this in a cut roll. Will definitely be visiting this place more often for date night. Prices is very reasonable. Just ordered via the phone and picked up my order. The staff is so friendly and welcoming! After I checked in, she noted I could wait in my car and she'd bring out my order. Pretty nice, IMO. I ordered the chirashi bowl (because Yelpers rave over this!) and the Washington roll. Chirashi bowl was really fresh and had SO much in the bowl! I mean, just look at it! For just $15.95, it's such a steal. Washington roll was so tasty. It was so smooth and I'm definitely ordering it again. I loved the sauce that it came with.
