Ordered takeout so cannot comment on service or ambience. The spicy tuna roll was about ~$13. It was okay.

Came here for their ramen and sushi. I haven't been here in a long time! It appears that they have changed owners or something since their menus were different too. They still have the same ramen items however the black ramen did not taste the same as back then .. As for the sushi, the angry tail roll was pretty good! I suppose sushi is better here than ramen now(?)

The food here is not that bad I got takeout and was very full off of an avocado roll and spicy vegan ramen The noodles are green. Not sure if they're seaweed or spinach but not too appetizing Has huge chunks of veggies The tofu included was raw and cold I feel like many restaurants don't put much effort into a vegan offering. This is an example of the flavor could have been better and greater care could have been given to preparing the tofu and veggies Just my two cents

Ordered the lunch special with karaage chicken, black ramen, and a spicy tuna roll. The karaage and roll were decent -- nothing mind-blowing but solid for a lunch set. Unfortunately, the ramen broth really fell flat. It lacked depth and flavor, which was a letdown since that's the main part of the meal. Portion-wise, it's a good deal for the price, but I probably wouldn't come back. For a spot that offers ramen, I expected better from the broth.

I can't believe Aburi has opened over 8 years with change in owners. Craving ramen on a random cold winter night? Aburi might bee the place for you. It was not busy on a weekend night. The hostess/waitress immediately sat us down at one of the booths and gave us a paper order sheet. There are definitely great deals for drinks as we noticed ads on the wall. We ordered ramen, cooked salmon collar, and miso soup. The restaurant wasn't that noisy and the waitress was nearby folding bags. We had asked for assistance because there wasn't any boxes for additional toppings for our ramen. She asked for spice level and went off to input our order. After a short time, our ramen arrived. We were surprised how quickly the ramen came out. My friend was curious about our other orders and we inquired with our waitress. By mistake, our waitress did not place the order for the other items. She apologized and inputted the rest of our orders. The ramen looked great! However, one of the disappointments was that the ramen broth was not spicy at all. The ramen itself and broth was a 3/5. While we did enjoy the food overall. Am I itching to come back? Not that much.

We missed on this one. Been in the strip mall that houses Aburi numerous times. Never tried. Shame on us. For starters, they have Sapporo on tap. First pint is always .99 cents, $2.99 thereafter. What's not to like about that? We led off with the mussels which were very good. Kinda like oysters Rockefeller. For the main, Wifey got the Black Ramen (mild) and me, the Red (extra spicy). Yes, you can choose the spice level. Both were very good. You can get extra toppings as well. Plenty of food. They have an extensive and varied menu with everything from sushi, ramen, udon, etc. Definitely a place you wanna come back to in order to try stuff. Service was solid and their pricing is more than reasonable. We will be back.

Went to the restaurant today, 9-9-25, after a long busy day. Restaurant was nice and clean, and the servers were amazing. Both ladies were on top of my order , making sure I was being taken care of. The food was delicious. I ordered 5 different dishes , from salmon to gyozas , they were all delicious ! I highly recommend this place. This was my second time coming , and it was a nice experience , once again.

    Jalapeño poppers. Delicious!

Did my first "to go" yesterday and everything is still such great quality, the food is fresh & healthy, the presentation is exceptional, the prices are beyond reasonable, the owner is nice & appreciative... and I've loved everything we've had so far... I'm glad we stumbled in there! I lost count how many times we've been now!!! lol Note the place is called ABURI Japanese Kitchen, but the former name was Ramain39 Izakaya, which still comes up sometimes on tags, etc.

Tonkatsu, salad and the two different rolls.
    Diane E.

Everything was delicious. We both had tonkatsu ramen but the similarity ends there. He had jalapeño shrimp. Tempura shrimp on jalapeño guacamole on a slice of lemon. Party in your mouth. I played it safe with salmon roll. Fresh but main stream. The tonkatsu needed just a hint of heat and was delicious. The house salad was great the sunny roll was better. The place is lovely and our waiter Rivan paid the perfect amount of attention. Can't wait to come back.

Jalapeño bomb and Black Ramen has been our to go meal lately here. So good! We're regulars at this point as the server already knows our drinks while we try to switch out what we order. Today was busier than normal and we opted on being called when a booth opens up while we waited in our car.

Came here with my besties for a binge. I have my AYCE place in Costa Mesa but my BFF's were in Huntington. So they lured me in with 50% off during Happy Hour. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that our first pint was only $0.99!!! First off... we were really hungry when we got here. So we ordered so much food! Appetizers: Gyoza 5/5 Garlic chili edamame 3/5 Jalapeño bombs 5/5 Then rolls and carpaccio. Vegas roll 4/5 Albacore sushi 4/5 Salmon Toro 5/5 Blue fin tuna 5/5 Albacore carpaccio 5/5 Albacore crunch roll.... Drool Aburi Special Roll 5/5 Cant remember the rest. Still in a food coma. Good service. Best happy hour! We ordered more sushi and rolls but got distracted by the best company and delicious sushi!! Looking forward to the next HB diva date. Will say choose wisely as they have picked some rolls they didn't like. This was my first experience and it was absolutely delicious. Especially considering Happy hour! Worth a stop as long as you aren't one of those looking for a $200 per person sushi experience. With drinks before tips it was about $60. But, again, we ordered way too much food. Worth every penny and them some.

Friendly service. Ramen ready fast and packed ready to go. I had the black ramen. I will try the tonkotu next time. You can choose your spice level. $.99 beers all day happy hour. Definitely need to check this out! They also have sushi and lunch specials. Highlighted happy hours items are the most popular: edamame $3.59, garlic chili edamame $4.99, gyoza $3.99, miso soup $2.59, cucumber salad $3.99, udon $9.59, tonkatsu ramen $13.99, shoyu ramen $12.99, crunch roll $7.99, rose roll $8.99, cucumber roll $3.99, California roll $4.59 and chicken teriyaki $12.99. It was $20 for 3 beers, 1 small hot sake (it was burning hot when they served it), cali roll, spicy edamame and cucumber salad Server was running around at 7pm getting everyone their beers and orders. They had clover app where you scan receipt and easily pay w Apple Pay which was nice. The tip options on clover app (unlike most other places) were 15, 18 or 20. It was easy to push the button so I did that instead of write custom but I would've tipped more than 20 on my $20 bill. My post wasn't posting with percents. Ambience - each booth was full at 7pm on a Wednesday but there were more tables. During the day not very busy inside.

What cut beef do you guys use for the Beef chasu?

Is there an all you can eat option here?

No! You buy the ramen and sushi by the plate.

Do they still do happy hour during COVID?

No, they do not have happy hour any more.

Which ramens do NOT have beef or pork broth?

Their veggie option is the only one I can think of

Did they really stop serving alcohol?

Okay so I called because like I said I don't drink, and they me that while their license was being renewed they couldn't serve, but their liquor license has been renewed and they are now serving again.

Safe to order via Postmates? Are the noodles packed separately from broth and all condiments?

Yes, when ordering to go or through PostMates the noodles and toppings are in a separate bowl from the broth.

Do you guys have the nutrition facts on the ramen?

Does the broth in your vegetarian ramen contain pork?

No it is a miso base VEGRTARIAN soup. No meat.

Why was the spicy ramen taken off the menu, my most favorite ramen ever!!!!!?

Do they offer a vegan option?

I believe they do I know there is a vegetarian option .. Veggie Ramen…

Anything on your menu gluten free?

No, there is nothing on the menu that's gluten free. Sorry about that.

Do you serve any non-pork ramen like a chicken shoyu ramen?

Do you serve vegetarian or vegan ramen?

Yes, they do. It was offered to us as an option yesterday! Happy eats - this place is amazing and going to do very, very well!

My hope is that management can use this as constructive feedback to fix some obvious quality control and service issues. Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing sushi experiences I've had in the past couple of years. For $22 total ($10 for the standard Tuna Roll and $12 for the standard Eel Roll, not a dragon roll which was I think close to $20 or over), the baseline quality and service just weren't there: * Portions & Value: Both rolls were cut into 5 pieces instead of the standard 8. Paying $22 for a grand total of 10 skimpy pieces is a tough sell on value alone, but the assembly made it worse. The rolls were haphazardly made, falling apart on the plate, and stuffed with minimal fish filling. * Freshness: The fish did not taste fresh and had a strange, off flavor to it--possibly an inventory turnover issue. Freshness is everything at a sushi bar, and having to worry about food safety after a meal is never a good sign. * Kitchen Execution: The $12 Eel roll arrived completely dry without any sauce. The server brought over teriyaki sauce when I had 2 pieces left as if they forgot to put it on. So I drenched the sushi in the sauce to hopefully cover the flavor only to realize he gave me teriyaki sauce for a rice bowl instead of standard unagi/eel sauce. * Management Response: When I brought up to the manager that the eel roll really was not good, she walked back to the kitchen, came back, and simply said, I spoke with the chef and he said it was normal. Bottom Line: Errors happen in restaurants, but brushing off customer feedback, using odd sauce substitutions, and serving loose, dry rolls with questionable fish quality shows a serious need for retraining. Hopefully, management takes a closer look at what's coming out of that kitchen. Look elsewhere in OC for sushi

We had an order of Uni, a hand roll with Wagyu and Uni, a soft shelled crab appetizer and the Kiwami roll. Everything was so good. They obviously use high quality fish and ingredients. The server was proud that their Uni is Japanese Uni which is of higher quality than many other sources. The employees were very friendly. In fact we came back a week later and had a similar experience. This looks like a go to sushi restaurant for us.

Location looks sketchy, but the food is good and price is very reasonable. Black Ramen (pork broth, black garlic oil, chashu, egg, green onion, beansprout, wood-ear mushroom) was really good. Great tasting broth without being too salty. Yellowtail Jalapeño Roll was excellent. Had this type of roll at other places, but the one here just tasted more vibrant. Very refreshing with a good amount of spiciness. Akuma Roll was good but was different than I expected. Based on the name I thought it would have a more menacing presentation with a super spicy kick to it, but it was rather tame and too bright in presentation. It has 4 types of fish, avocado, spicy mayo, soy mustard, truffle ponzu sauce, and soy paper. Service seemed efficient as we got our food pretty quickly, despite being busy. However, it took a while for us to get our check at the end.

From the moment mine companions and I crossed the threshold, we were greeted with warmth and cheer, as though we were cherished guests returning home from a long and weary journey. Upon our departure, the farewells were equally heartfelt, leaving us with the feeling that we had dined not amongst strangers, but amongst dear friends. The atmosphere within was calm and comforting, familiar in a way that soothed the soul. In a world filled with noisy feasting halls and chaotic marketplaces, this establishment stood as a peaceful sanctuary where one might rest and enjoy a most noble meal. The serving folk were nothing short of extraordinary. Attentive without hovering, quick of wit, and brimming with personality, they carried themselves with the sort of genuine hospitality that cannot be taught by any guild or academy. Every interaction felt sincere and full of heart. Now, let us speak of the pan-fried gyoza, for I fear words alone may fail to capture its greatness. These glorious parcels arrived golden and crisp upon the outside, yet tender and delicate within. Each bite tasted as though it had been crafted by hand moments before reaching the table. Were I granted a chest of gold, I would gladly spend it all upon another plate. And lo! The White Peach Seltzer. Good people, I have sampled beverages from many corners of the kingdom, from noble feasts to humble roadside inns, and never in my years have I encountered a seltzer so divine. It was refreshing beyond measure, kissed with the perfect essence of white peach. Had a celestial spring existed in the heavens themselves, I imagine it would taste much the same. Perhaps most admirable of all was the story behind this fine establishment. The keepers spoke of their history and journey with such authenticity and pride that one could not help but feel invested in their success. Nothing felt rehearsed or hollow; their passion was as real as the food upon the table. I departed with a full belly, a joyful heart, and a solemn vow to return many times henceforth. This shall become one of my regular gathering places, and I shall recommend it to all wandering souls seeking comfort, hospitality, and a feast worthy of legend. Five stars. Five crowns. Five royal decrees of approval. "Should destiny guide thee to this ramen house, enter without hesitation. Thy taste buds shall sing songs of victory long after the meal is done."

[Missing noodles, expensive ramen, bad customer service, and no reason to come back.]…read more I visited this restaurant to place a to-go order and picked up my food during a late lunch around 1:40 p.m. I ordered two items, including a bowl of tonkotsu ramen. When I got back to work in Santa Ana and opened my bag around 2:30 p.m., my ramen had NO NOODLES. It was literally just broth and toppings. I called the restaurant expecting a simple apology and a reasonable solution. Instead, the manager would not even speak to me directly and chose to communicate through a waiter the entire time, which made the situation even more frustrating. We went back and forth multiple times with the waiter acting as the middleman. First, they told me I could come back and pick up the missing noodles. That was not realistic. I was already back at work, and it takes me about 25 minutes to get from Fountain Valley to Santa Ana. Driving all the way back for a side of noodles made no sense. So I asked for what seemed like the easiest and most reasonable solution: a complimentary bowl of ramen on my next visit. Instead, I was told no, but they could give me "extra noodles" next time. Extra noodles next time? What exactly was that supposed to do for me when I was sitting there hungry with no actual ramen to eat that day? Then the manager, again through the waiter, said she would personally drive noodles to my job. I even told them that did not make sense because by the time she got there, it would be around 4:30 p.m. At that point, my lunch break would be long over, the ramen would be cold, and all of it would be a waste of my time, her time, restaurant resources, and gas. But I agreed, because at that point it was obvious they really did not want to simply offer me a free bowl of ramen on my next visit. And to be clear, I was not asking for some huge free meal. I was asking to be compensated for the ramen I already paid good money for and did not even receive correctly. For how expensive ramen is, that should not have been a difficult ask. About 10 minutes later, the waiter called back and said the manager would give me a free bowl of ramen next time I came in, which was the exact solution I had suggested from the start. I can only assume she realized how far the drive was and how unnecessary and impractical that solution would have been. Mistakes happen. Forgetting the noodles was one thing. But the way this was handled was unnecessarily difficult, inconvenient, and honestly kind of absurd. I did not ask for a refund. I was looking for an apology and some common-sense customer service. Instead, I got a lot of back-and-forth and a manager who would not even speak to me directly. Kudos to the waiter for doing their best to mediate the situation. Even they thought the situation could of been handled differently by the manager. Very disappointing experience. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this place to others based on how this situation was handled.

A Legendary Slurp - Gone But Never Forgotten It is a true…read moretragedy for the Orange County food scene that Hakata Ikkousha in Costa Mesa has closed its doors. This wasn't just a "ramen joint"--it was a masterclass in authentic Fukuoka-style soul food. The Broth: Liquid Gold The standout was always their Signature Tonkotsu broth. You could literally taste the 30+ hours of labor that went into it. It had that distinct "frothy" texture (the bubble of the bone marrow) that you only find in high-end Hakata shops. It was rich, creamy, and carried a deep umami funk without ever being overly greasy. The Hits * Black Tonkotsu: The roasted garlic oil (mayu) added a smoky, dark complexity that ruined all other garlic ramens for me. * God Fire: For those who like to sweat, this offered the perfect balance of heat without sacrificing the integrity of the pork flavor. * The Karaage: Genuinely some of the best fried chicken in the area. Massive, juicy thigh meat with a shattering, thin crust and that addictive spicy mayo on the side. * Customization: I loved that they let you pick your noodle firmness. "Hard" was the only way to go to ensure that perfect snap with every bite. The Atmosphere The Costa Mesa location always had a great energy--functional, clean, and unpretentious. The staff were always efficient, greeting everyone with a loud "Irasshaimase!" that made the experience feel truly authentic. It's heartbreaking to see such a high-caliber spot leave the neighborhood. If you were lucky enough to eat here, you know we lost a heavy hitter. To the team at Ikkousha: thank you for the memories and the best bowls in the city. You'll be sorely missed! Note: For those still craving that specific broth, their Torrance locations are still holding it down--definitely worth the drive to keep the dream alive. Come back to OC! !
