A burger joint that knows exactly what it wants to be Every now and then you stumble across a place that doesn't try to reinvent the hamburger. It simply focuses on making one really, really well. That's exactly what I found at Munchies Burger. I ordered the Bacon Guacamole Burger and my son ordered Smoky Mountain Burger, and both delivered in different ways. The Bacon Guacamole Burger was fresh, creamy, and packed with generous slices of avocado that balanced the smoky bacon perfectly. The Smoky Mountain Burger leaned into bold flavors with smoky bacon, melted cheese, and a hearty, satisfying bite that made it feel like classic comfort food done right. The patties were juicy, the buns held together nicely, and every ingredient tasted fresh. The sides deserve just as much credit. We tried both the classic crunchy fries and the sweet potato fries, and honestly, there wasn't a wrong choice. The regular fries had that crisp exterior with a fluffy center, exactly how great fries should be. The sweet potato fries were slightly crisp on the outside, soft inside, and naturally sweet without being overly greasy. We kept reaching across the table stealing each other's fries, which is always a good sign. The restaurant has that relaxed, old-school burger shack atmosphere where the focus is clearly on the food rather than flashy décor. Service was friendly, our order came out quickly, and everything arrived hot and fresh. If you're in Grand Junction and craving a burger that tastes like it was made by people who genuinely care about getting the basics right, Munchies Burger deserves a visit. Food is good but the owner is an asshole and will believe in his employees before listening to what the customer says. When a Manager on duty tells a customer fuck you on the way out the door then there is a problem. When a Manager won't admit that she told her employee how to make something and had to ask the head manager the following week how to make a certain item and she's told how to do it correctly, a simple apology would have sufficed and everything would have been fine. But of course she denied everything and would not apologize. Very unprofessional on that Manager and very unprofessional owner. He and those managers fail to remember the golden rule. The customer is always right! I was a business man in Grand Junction until I retired averaging 10 million dollars a year in sales. I was never afraid to say and apologize if something wasn't done right... I really wanted to say something nice about this place... I guess the best I can come up with is: if your expectation are LOW, you won't be disappointed. Muchies is a VERY no frills establishment. Barracks style seating area, reminds me of a school lunchroom. My mom used to say that it's hard to screw up a hamburger, but somehow, this joint figured that out. Fries were frozen on the inside, burger was absolutely tasteless and lettuce was wilted, tomato was small in portion size. Meal was crushed inside paper "to go" bag, so burger was in pieces by the time I got it home to eat. Customers would be better served by going to a chain restaurant (like Red Robin) or even Burger King. read more

I took my wife there for a Memorial Day weekend treat. As I can see it across the pasture from my backyard we decided it was time to give it a try. First thoughts were it has a huge parking lot. Next thoughts were it is like a large, noisy box inside. Lots of tables and room but it's an echo chamber. They really need sound panels in the ceiling and/or tapestries hanging on the walls. Next thoughts were the staff was very cheerful and helpful. Even though they had no clue on how to use my Restaurant.com coupon a manager quickly resolved the issue. We found a booth in the corner, which was a bit quieter than in the center of the echo chamber, and next thing ya know, probably within 5 minutes, our order arrived. All our items were freshly made and hot, not scooped from under a heat lamp. As for the food, here's our thoughts on what we ordered: Shrimp and Chips for my wife ~ Shrimp were of average size, tails removed (my wife smiles), just the right amount of breading, not hidden in it, and very tasty. As for the "chips", they weren't real "chips", but just fries, but they were VERY good fries, the best I've had in a long time. Hot, crispy outside and fluffy inside. Chicken Fried Steak Special (chicken fried steak & mashed potatoes (both with gravy), green beans ~ First, I asked for extra gravy, and it did indeed come with extra gravy at no extra charge, so big points for that! As for the CFS, while it met all the average requirements for a CFS (tender, tasty, and decently breaded), it was just a hair above average. I'm from Texas and I've had much a much better CFS many times, but still, this one held it's own. The mashed potatoes were, well, mashed potatoes, and we couldn't decide if they were fresh or from flakes as they did not have even the tiniest bit of potato chunks in them, which led us to believe they were from potato flakes. The green beans were the worst item we got. They seemed like they were from a can. I can get canned green beans at home. Fresh, or even frozen, would have been better. Calamari ~ This was the highlight of the show. A bit pricier than most calamari, but these weren't your average chewy squid rings. They were thick squid steaks sliced into thick ribbons, breaded just right, and deep fried. I love a good squid steak, and these came close, maybe even better because they were fried to perfection. Not over cooked to tough and rubbery, but just right to tender and tasty heaven! I wanted to order four more orders! Sweet potato fries ~ Another winner! Not your typical shoestring, thin cut fries but thick cut so you can actually taste the sweet potato. Again, the best sweet potato fries we've ever had, and we've had a lot. Onion Rings ~ While these were thick and a bit above average, they seemed like they were frozen out of a bag instead of made in house. Not bad by any means, but nothing to write home about, and still better than most. Chocolate shake, for my wife ~ Not much to say except it was what it was, a thick chocolate shake. I'm sure my wife would order another. Overall, we'll go there again (even if only for the calamari), and highly recommend it to friends.I went back to Muchies (as I knew I would) for a Sunday culinary excursion (and so I could take a day off from cooking as I'm the primary cook in our house). My wife had the shrimp and chips again, fried shrimp and French fries. I love their fries as they are crunchy on the outside, pillowy on the inside, and seasoned just right! Of course I highjacked her fries in exchanged for the sweet potatoes fries she prefers, which were also top notch once again, but there seemed to be quite a bit fewer of them than last time. Instead of the party in the basket it seemed more like tea time with a few friends. This time I decided to try one of their burgers so I ordered a regular hamburger with no cheese. When I ordered, I told the guy I wanted a hamburger with no cheese, just a plain burger. That was a mistake on my part as I was served just a burger patty on an empty bun. When I asked the server if their burger came with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and such she said yes they did, but i ordered a plain burger so that's what I got. After I told her that's not what I meant, that I just wanted a hamburger with no cheese, just the burger, but not a naked one. She smiled and took it back to soon return to me fully dressed. So don't order a plain burger unless you want it naked. As for the burger, the lettuce and onions were fresh and crisp, the tomato slice was, well, a tomato slice, but next time I'll as for an extra slice as just one isn't quite enough for this Southern boy. It was cooked to perfection, just under well done but almost. I don't like any pink in my burgers as I don't care for food poisoning, and this one was cooked just right, moist and flavorful, but not over cooked and dry. Overall, another in the park home run. Maybe next time it will be a grand slam. I'll return again to find out, and so should you! read more

Second time customer; not impressed either time! Most recent visit was on 7/20/25.....ordered a "Philly Cheesesteak" to go. Got home and opened package.....as far as the bun, think Costco's $1.50 all beef footlongs. Actually, comparing the bun to Costco's would be a compliment.....looked like someone had squeezed it in an effort to make it look even sadder! Charging $9.00 for this is embarrassing. I was not happy when I went and I ordered a veggie burger I asked for a different cheese besides Swiss cheese and when I got my burger, it had shredded cheese on it. I don't know a single burger place that would put shredded cheese on a burger it's so odd. The food was delicious. Anything else is fine, but it blows my mind that they put shredded cheese on my burger. Who does that? Like seriously I'm so confused. I don't know maybe I should've clarified. I was pleasantly surprised. The dining room kind of reminds me of a school cafeteria. That is the only diwn side I can think of. The house cheeseburger and fries were excellent. Cooked perfect and with just the right amount of juiciness. I haven't tried all the burger places, but I will be going back to this place. An added bonus was that after a guest left, they not only cleaned the table but the ketchup, mustard and salt and pepper. read more
