I can't say enough good things about this place. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and shown right to a table. We were a little taken aback simply because we dressed as 'business casual' and the waitstaff were dressed to the 9's. But we noticed that almost everyone else there was dressed casually, so we relaxed (i.e. they seem to have a relaxed dress code). Our waiter was prompt taking our drink order (and the water was filled immediately). He explained the special (some sort of fish which both my wife and I thought sounded wonderful) and then let us take our time looking over the menu. When he came back, I asked him about the sautéed mushroom appetizer. He described it and we immediately ordered it. It came out piping hot, and I must say - my wife and I both were 'fighting' for each bite - it was AMAZING. The sourdough bread is fantastic (and was great to use to mop up the rest of the melted butter from the sauteed mushrooms). I ordered the bacon wrapped, blue cheese encrusted filet with the house mashed potatoes and my wife ordered the ribeye steak with the potatoes au gratin. Mine selection was pretty awesome. The kitchen burned the bacon, but the steak was done perfectly and with the blue cheese encrustment and the sauce that came with it, I just pushed the bacon to the side (note - if I had pointed this out, I have no doubt that the staff would have refired the entire plate - so that's on me). However, my wife's selection blew mine completely away. Her steak was done perfectly (medium-rare) and the au gratin potatoes were absolutely to die for (I may have stolen quite a bit from her plate). We have our favorite place in Loveland, Co (4th street chop house) and Colorado Springs, Co (Peppertree restaurant), and we've now added the Winery to that short list. Sadly, it's a little further than the other two, but when we come back to Grand Junction/Palisade, this is one place that won't be skipped! We definitely recommend this place. read more

Tonight was totally different than our first experience at The Winery. Our server seemed to think we needed an explanation on the difference in fattiness between a ribeye, New York strip, and a filet mignon which when you're ordering $60-$70 steaks seems kind of unnecessary. He also described the filet as very lean, which while true is still a delicious cut of meat. Then he started explaining what the Oscar topping option and it was just too much, so I told him we understood the basics. Our first time, we received a description of the specials and asked if we had other questions about the menu - perfectly appropriate. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops which we've had plenty of time, but these were topped with an apricot chili sauce that totally overpowered the taste of the scallop. All you could taste was the bacon and what tasted like a barbecue sauce - not an apricot chili glaze. We'll never order those again. The steaks were perfectly cooked as always, but the baked potatoes were luke warm and barely hot enough to melt the butter and definitely not hot enough to melt the cheese. We had a show to attend so there was no time to send anything back. At this point, we're not hurrying back for another dinner for 2 with a $300 price tag, which includes a $130 bottle of wine. read more

We were visiting Grand Junction, CO and looking for a nice restaurant with staff that knows how to cook a good steak. Amazingly, finding someone that knows how to cook a steak can be difficult. After quick Google and Yelp searches, we learned about the Winery. I made a reservation online, and I'm glad I did because it is a busy place. Located in an alley, the historic building used to house a horse drawn carriage fire station. Pretty cool to think about. To me the building was quite charming. I loved the outside walls covered in vines and the old wooden door that opened into quaint, cozy rooms covered in wood and old bricks with beautiful stained glass windows. I felt like I had stepped back in time to an old timey tavern. When we arrived, our table was ready. We ordered a couple of drinks and decided to go straight for our meal. I decided on the 6 ounce filet. It was locally sourced and wrapped in apple wood smoked bacon. I asked for medium well and it was cooked to perfection. I ordered a loaded baked potato to go with it. It was a delicious meal, and I had leftovers for the next day. For the amount of food we got, the service and the quality of the meal. I would highly recommend The Winery for a date night out or other special occasion. read more

The winery offers excellent food, excellent drinks, and professional and attentive service, in a very cool setting with great ambiance. I am not judging The Winery on one visit. I am judging it on at least 40 -50 visits over the last dozen years or so , and it has been consistently excellent all the many years it has been under current ownership. My wife and I have enjoyed great dining experiences all over the world, but when we are back home in GJ, we know the overall experience we find at the Winery is as good as anywhere we go. Came on a Wednesday for my bday dinner. This restaurant is beautiful, classy, quiet and the server, Nathan was so attentive, kind, and gave great suggestions. Even the manager greeted us and came to check on us. The room is spotless, the music is quietly playing so you can speak to the person next to you, the lighting is calming, and even the plants are real. The hot rolls, delicious, the salad was great and the server was thoughtful enough to bring two plates for sharing. We ordered the filet mignon with 3 cheese potato, and the wagyu with mack & cheese. Incredible. For dessert we had a nice cheesecake slice. Did not get to try any of the specialty drinks, but it's on my list for next time. Everything was perfect! read more

We were greeted by a bald guy that told us that there was no room at the bar and we should just go across the street to a bar and wait. - totally spoiled our evening. Seven siblings flew in from around the country to surprise our 80 year old brother at this restaurant. Planned on having him walk in the bar and see us all . Owner was nasty to us , wanted to have a drink in bar and told us we had to "go take your seat , I hired a waiter to take care of you! If you don't go seat , find another restaurant ". We are in our 60's all professionals and very respectful. Fantastic food, but the owner caused a terrible scene when he flipped out over us arriving with three more diners on a 12-person reservation. By flipped out, I mean almost making a 27-year-old woman cry and having her boss want to fist fight the dude for being so rude to us. It was embarrassing. What was the catalyst to this argument? We asked to have a two-person table joined to our large table. That was it. Our group should have left -- in fact, I voted to do just that -- but enough of us decided to stay that we did, rewarding the owner with $2,000 that he didn't deserve. Ouch. --The staff was great. No complaints. If you're reading this, consider working elsewhere. --Food was excellent, likely the best steak I've eaten. Kudos to the chef. --Owner's outburst was something I'll never forget. Sir, please get help or hire a manager, because you aren't wired for this. PS: I never leave reviews. Stuck us by the kitchen, packed room, could barely hear the waiter, could not carry a conversation due to noise. The food was average, and the server was pleasant. However, this restaurant is NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. They do not provide high chairs or booster seats and fail to inform patrons of this policy until after they are seated. They clearly saw the infant in my arms This lack of accommodation can be challenging, especially when attempting cut a $70 steak while holding squirming an infant. They don't say you can't come with kids but they make it absolutely inhospitable. The manager was unapologetic and stated that guests are expected to bring their own seating for children. The restaurant does not disclose this information on its website or upon arrival. I hope this review helps others avoid the inconvenience we experienced. If you're dining with young children, BE AWARE YOUR EXPECTED TO BRING YOUR OWN HIGH CHAIR. Great upscale dining, friendly, prompt service at Grand Junction's foremost dining establishment. I don't think the decor has changed much in over fifty years but it's not dated in its feel. We were there for our 46th wedding anniversary and were made very welcome for the occasion. I enjoyed their mixed grill, my husband was impressed by the Scottish salmon and for dessert we were treated to a lovely chocolate lava cake served a la mode with locally made Enstrom's ice cream. Don't let the classy ambiance and attentive wait staff fool you. The entrees are not high quality. The stuffed chicken breast was dry and overdone. The special of the night was Wagyu beef. It was the most expensive item on the menu at $98. It was really tough. The crust spices overpowered any flavor that the meat might have had. The only thing that was not over spiced to cover the bland flavor was the mashed potatoes. The crème brûlée was over flamed on top and cold on the middle. At least my scotch came with a large single ice cube. I don't know who is selling them "Wagyu" but they obviously are getting ripped off. The chefs don't seem to notice. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed the food here, I had the pecan, spinach and goat cheese stuffed chicken breast. Highly recommend. Also the "winery potatoes" were delicious, recommend getting that as your side. My husband had the filet, it was cooked perfectly to order. All around good food. The service was good. Our server in particular was nice and very attentive, but just a little odd. Nothing wrong with that, just felt like all of our interactions were somewhat awkward. As far as ambiance, the place has nice low, romantic lighting and white table clothes. Our waiter and the young lady helping him provided an excellent experience. The menu was explained and our glass never went empty. I order the Spinach salad with the bacon dressing and it was great.
