Finding a solid spot for a quick pint and a snack before a formal dinner is always a bit of a gamble. My wife and I were passing through town for the night and just looking for somewhere near the Colorado National Monument to kill an hour. Handlebar Tap House turned out to be exactly what we needed. A lot of places claim to have a great beer selection, but end up pouring the same tired distribution kegs week after week. Not here. They run 24 rotating handles, and whoever is doing the ordering actually gives a damn about curating a balanced board. I was stoked to see they had a special local collaboration beer on tap called The Ocho. They brewed it up with the folks over at WestCo Brewing to celebrate their eighth anniversary, and it is a phenomenal, juicy IPA. The pour was absolutely spot on, complete with a perfect two-finger head that left thick lacing all the way down the glass. The hop profile was incredibly bold and fruit-forward. We were really only planning on grabbing that quick beer, but we caved and ordered the beer-battered cheese curds. I can be pretty picky about bar snacks, especially when trying to save room for a big meal later. Most of the time, fried cheese is just a heavy, greasy mess where the breading completely overwhelms the actual dairy. These were a massive surprise. The beer batter is light and super crisp, practically shattering right when you bite into it. It gives way to a perfect, hot, melty pull while somehow still keeping a bit of that authentic cheese curd squeak. We polished off the entire basket in minutes. The atmosphere hits that sweet spot between a lively local joint and a relaxed gastropub. The service was fast, which is crucial when you are watching the clock for dinner reservations, and the bartender actually knew the tap list inside and out. The whole vibe is completely unpretentious. It is just a proper pub doing exactly what it should. If our travels ever bring us back through Grand Junction, I will definitely be stopping in again. read more

We found out about Handlebar Tap House on our way out of Colorado National Monument. Their rooftop seating pulled us in especially on such as nice, sunny day. I ordered their hummus place. It came with carrots, celery, cucumbers and pita bread, and was plenty for one person or as an appetizer for two people. Stopped by for a drink and a snack. This is a tap house. They offer local beers and spirits. I had the old fashioned with a twist. It had a pear liquor. It was good. Not to sweet. Still had the old fashion taste. We shared fries and fish tacos. The order of fish tacos comes with three tacos on flour tortillas. The tacos are filled with blackened fish and slaw. we got the fries to try out their many dips. My favorite was the burger dip. They have two registers. One for only drinks. The other one for food and drinks. You order and then your food is brought to you once it's ready. They have inside and outside seating. Parking is on site read more

We stopped at the Handlebar Tap House for lunch and ordered burgers and fries. The service was friendly, and the food was prepared fresh. The restaurant was dimly lit despite being newer construction and could benefit from better lighting throughout the dining area. They have a large selection of beers on tap for those inclined to enjoy adult libations. The burgers and fries were decent but not outstanding. The bill was $25 for my burger, fries, and a side salad, which seemed a little expensive. read more

Four of us went. Beer was good, and I shared a Bison burger with my hubbie, which was really good. The couple we were with had a less pleasant experience. Husband had a great burger (per him), but her Buffalo Chicken salad was a sloppy mess- not recommended. We'll go back for the beer and stick to the burgers! read more

I don't like writing bad reviews, especially for local restaurants, but I hope they read this and use it for constructive criticism and improvement. We placed our order when the restaurant was pretty much empty. It took over 30 minutes to get our food, which happens, but when my order arrived, it was wrong. They brought me something else entirely. I ate the wrong order because I was hungry, but unfortunately, the meal itself was subpar. I see this place packed when I drive by, and I think it is more of a bar than a restaurant, now that I've eaten there. read more

I was drinking an Ecliptic IPA from Portland Oregon, one of my favorite Portland breweries. About the food - our table had a seared ahi plate and a Greek burger. Both were nicely prepared and presented. Loads of seating, great service, great views of the valley, four or five TVs playing sports. read more

This is the perfect post-ride spot for beer and food. We had just come from the lunch loops so this was conveniently on the way home. My husband and I each got a hazy (I got the new Belgium Hazy) and both were very tasty. I'm a sucker for poutine so I got their classic poutine and it did not disappoint! The gravy was flavorful and there were so many cheese curds all the fries were stuck together is a cheesy, gravy covered mess. I was in Grand Junction doing some mountain biking, looking for some replenishment after a day in the saddle. The guy at the bike shop suggested this place. Glad he did. I was helped by Jeff and was quite happy with the service. Even happier with the food and beer! The burger came out timely, was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The beer.....ice cold, light and refreshing! Good enough to come back after the next ride. On my next visit, Jeff helped me again and was stellar once more. I went for the Ahi Lettuce Wraps this time and was rather impressed. The ahi was fresh and delicious, and the spicy cole slaw was damn good. Nice and spicy and very flavorful. This place is a joke! Save some time and money and go ANYWHERE else. Service was terrible. As soon as we got to the counter the cashier asked how we were and left. The bartender had to come over and ask for our order. I can get by that if the food wasn't laughable either. I ordered a burger that was the most overdone hockey puck I have had in a long time. The size was depressing, I have had bigger cookies than that burger. For $12 I expect a little more. After a long bike ride I want more than one burnt slider. (Regret not taking a picture). I don't review places often due to being lazy. But this place is well worth it. We stopped in on our way to Denver and I'm so glad we did. I got the Lunch loops burger with fries and a cream ale. Their burgers are so good. The meat is seasoned perfect and cooked amazingly well. They have a sauce bar that's got really good fry sauce, ranch and the burger sauce is great. Not sure why when we looked they were rated 3 stars but the service was great, the food was great, the music was great. If we come back though this way if definitely come here again. read more

This place is a relatively new addition to the valley and it is clear they are still experiencing some growing pains. The ambiance feels cold and lacks cohesion. The pictures on the wall are mounted at a level where you bump into them. As a mountain bikeer, I was attracted to the spot hoping that I would find my crowd- and be somewhere where mtbers go. This is not the place, it feels like a sports bar with televisions and sports broadcast everywhere. The food is very good, and the meat options are better than anywhere else around. The menu needs a bit of review as additions to bugger cost a fair bit, and don't make sense as to why. Beer selection is great, but I don't drink. This is a great addition to the area. They have an ever-changing wide array of beers. If you love Bud Lite, you may be disappointed. The menu is heavily burger based, so be aware (although a veggie burger is an option). I usually get the bison burger and am really happy with it. You can adorn your burger with upgrades (bacon, chili, a fried egg, etc.) On our last few visits, our food came out quite quickly and was delivered with enthusiasm. We've been visiting weekly for a while now, and enjoy it a lot. The only real discordant note (as someone else has mentioned) is that for a place named "Handlebar", there is little in the way of decor or theme that is consistent with the name. Good atmosphere and service. Our favorite bartender is Casey who remembered us after a few visits. He and the rest of the staff make a point to say hello after you have been in a few times. Our favorite menu item is their burger and Monday nights are hard to beat with a burger and beer special for $14. Their rotating tap makes it easy, fun, and convenient to try new beers. Came here after finding out it was one of the only places open on Sundays in GJ, and was pleasantly surprised! Lots of TVs to watch games, and a nice layout inside with windows open for a semi-open air vibe. We ordered the black and blue burger (blue cheese), handleburger (classic cheeseburger) and some very tasty cheese curds. Prices were super reasonable at about $10 for the burgers. Wife had the Handlebar burger and it was cooked perfectly, served on a brioche bun and accompanied by fries. I had the Mexican style Poutain, which was smothered and delicious! Wife drank the Allmountain Amber while I chose the Ecliptic Phazer Hazy IPA. Great choice on both accounts. Social distancing in effect with limited tables about 10 feet apart. Unfortunately I wish there was an option to give no stars but I have no choice but to give one star... Which is very undeserved. My husband and I drove 30 minutes to come to this place and I wish we never did. This was our FIRST and our LAST experience here... Ever. We placed a pretty big order... Cheese curds, poutine fries, a few orders of French fries and two different burgers. Y'know the whole shabang. My husband was on speaker when he placed the to go order and I heard the manager repeat the order back to him as he ordered. Long story short one of the burgers was suppose to have blue cheese and be lightly pink. We drove home only to find out the burger was completely plain and sooooo raw inside. Listen I like pink on my meat but it was raw. And being pregnant that's a very big hazard. The lady who answered the phone was extremely rude when we explained the situation and when we talked to the MANAGER He told us that "Well we didn't charge you for it so I'm not gonna comp you or anything." Are you kidding me? What a joke. Listen buddy, I placed a big order and it's not my fault for your mess up. Your lucky this pregnant lady decided to open the burger up and not bite into it cus you could have gotten me very sick . Service is horrible and now I realize why they only have 3 stars.
