I'm sad to say that Munkabeans has gone more than downhill since my last review. I gave up coffee for Lent and returned to Munkabeans to find things completely different from before. I thought, perhaps, new staff had been hired and hadn't gotten fully trained. People whom I'd never seen before were making my drink, and they were less than friendly. It was downright awkward to order and wait for my beverage, and I couldn't have been happier that I ordered it to go. The drink itself was decent, but I could have ordered from somewhere else if I wanted generic (or worse) service and beverages. I went back a couple more times. I received the same awkward, unfriendly service. I felt like an intruder. My favorite barista was no where to be found, and the drinks were hit-or-miss. Not to mention that the drink prices are pretty high. Munkabeans might be in my backyard, but I think I'm going to stick to the chain coffee shops that aren't too much farther away. The staff is friendlier, the service is better, the drinks are more consistent, and the prices are generally lower. read more

Great coffee shop in Hopkins. They have a patio in the back, which smokers will appreciate, but non-smokers will probably want to stay away from. Interior is great, drinks are great, and the music is not too loud. Definitely the best coffee shop in Hopkins. read more

This is my new favorite spot in Hopkins. They have been around for 14 years and I am embarassed to say that I never stopped by when I lived right down the street. The place always called out to me, but I was in a hurry and often overlooked them. How silly I am. My dad and I were going to the theater and arrived ridiculously early for our show. It was really hot during the day and the possibility of an iced beverage lured me in. Telling the barista that I wanted something with less coffee flavor and more of a creamy taste led her to recommend the iced chai latte. It was delicious! Not bland, but also not overpowering. It's hard to find a good medium, but they managed to do it. My father went for the pineapple carrot cake. I can't say that I could tell it had pineapple, but as far as carrot cakes go it was lip-licking good. Two of the things that really turned me on to them is that 1) they have a bunch of board games and skill games to play and 2) they sell Munkabeans t-shirts and a nice selection of coffee cups from antique dealers. I bought two Art Deco coffee cups and saucers with built-in ash trays... and I don't even smoke. I just thought they were awesome and I had never seen them before. 2 coffee cups and saucers, 1 huge slice of cake and 1 giant cup of chai was just under $20. I will be back! read more

The ambiance of this cafe is very nice. I enjoy the fact you can bike here from neighboring towns. They have a great selection of coffee, lattes, wraps, and sandwiches. They have delicious sebastians ice cream! Great place to bring a date! read more

So I am back this morning to my favorite latte of the area. Having another Americano and self measured honey. Thanks. Also had a piece of salted caramel, got a 3lb bag of expresso beans for home grinding, and waiting for breakfast muffin sandwich. I really like this. Just got the nicest sandwich of this kind ever. I typically enjoy the smaller non-chain coffee shops. This one was a little on the subpar side for me. Minus the employees snacking on food in between making drinks, without any hand washing I should add. The drinks where beyond sweet with hardly any coffee flavor to them at all. We both ordered lattes one vanilla and the other plain with an extra shot. I tasted mine with the supposed extra shot and proceed to say let's switch assuming I had gotten the one without the extra shot. Nope, not the case, there was no coffee taste in hers at all. If we had not been in a little rush, we would have went back to get them remade. Cute place with potential, they just need to step up their game a little. read more

I absolutely love this place and I always will because it's my coffee shop I went to in high school to study and read. Today however there was a really really annoying cashier that talked to each person in like for at least 3 minutes, talking about her personal life, where she went to high school and what she's doing now. She also made a really weird comment about my hat looking like one from a movie but I didn't know what the movie was and was trying to just get my coffee and leave but she kept incessantly talking and I couldn't leave. She also started almost fighting with her coworker, trying to tell them how to do their job which he was obviously not happy abt. Her name was bridgette. Anyway this is the only bad experience I've had there so I would still go but she was very frustrating and unprofessional. read more

I want so much for this to be my weekly stop. My son is in classes across the street and I hoped it would be the place where I could get a little work done and enjoy a chai. The chai is decent, the food is good. I love that they create space for local artists. But the customer service is lacking a bit. I've been there once a week for about six weeks. I've never seen anyone wipe down a table, which doesn't feel great during covid. The last couple of weeks they have started closing procedures at 4:30. It's hard to work when they vacuum is running and I just kind of get the vibe that they want us to leave. I may be back because the location is so darn convenient but I am looking for an alternative. We have another four months of acting class to go so I wish it felt like a better space to be. read more

Every time I'm visiting Minnesota, I try to go to Munkabeans. This coffee shop is wonderful. It has a small town charm mixed with a modern art gallery vibe. They offer food and coffee. I have only tried the coffee drinks here, but all of the lattes and mochas I have had over the years have not disappointed. There is also free parking available nearby. read more

Brewed coffee was from a thermos although there were two countries of origin and roasts. The espresso I ordered as 'large ' came in a giant coffee cup, nice lady asked if I wanted room for cream and topped with water after I said no... it was a so-so americano. They do a brisk business so folks were happier than I but this was a disappointment...and a fair wait to boot. I love me a soy chai latte. I live in Hopkins and when I moved here was excited to try a local coffee shop. I don't know what happened with my drink, perhaps they burnt the soy milk while steaming, but it tasted dirty and just plain gross. I can't talk myself into going back. read more

Stopped by this morning for a cup of coffee, walked up to the cashier and said good morning... she did not reply ,she just looked at me . I ordered 1 Chia tea and a coffee, se charged me around $ 8.00 so I put the remainder of the change , around 2 bucks in her tip jar....No thank you what so ever ....Waited about 10 min for the tea to be made and she just set it on the counter and didn't say anything...I did not feel welcome or wanted in this snobby place... read more

I truly loved this place while visiting Minneapolis. The iced coffee, smoothies, and chai was freaking amazing. I love small owned businesses. The service and quality of food was excellent.We had the grilled cheese pesto and a croissant with home made butter. Everything was great. Who needs Starbucks or Caribou when you have Munkabeans. I'm always in search of gluten free food options. WOW this places fills the bill and then some. I tried the Chicken Wild Rice soup, I've missed this since I was forced to go gluten free, it was PERFECT!! I'll be stopping to buy soup weekly now since all of their soups are GFree. We just stopped at this little place to get coffee on our way out of town, and it was horrible service. My husband always tips, but honestly thought about asking for the tip back. The baristas did nothing but trash talk the order my husband asked for. I'm sure they thought he couldn't hear them, but how incredibly rude. I was a barista for over 5 years, I get it, we all get orders that don't sound the best to us... but to stand there in front of a customer and talk about how stupid their drink order is, is absolutely ridiculous. Great, great, great coffee. It's a fun atmosphere with lovely tables and a sofa and chairs and area for kids to play -- and some outdoor tables, too. I've been to Munkabeans a few times with my girls and I have enjoyed it. They had plenty of seating and great coffee. Definitely family friendy. They have a little children's area with a chalk board and toys and kid friendly games. I am happy to be supporting a local business. read more

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Had a cappuccino and a monka muffin (like a McMuffin) but tasted fresh and delicious. The sausage had a great flavor and really made the sandwich. It was pretty busy but the place still felt very relaxing and laid back while sat and sipped my coffee. I will have to make it a regular stop when I have time to sit and enjoy my morning. read more

Popped in here during the Hopkins Raspberry Festival for a blended mocha (Munkachino? Something like that - it's not on their online menu). It was delicious with a distinct espresso flavour that isn't present in a certain chain store's blended drinks. The price was a little steep but I mostly popped in to use their restroom and I like supporting local business so it was worth it - I couldn't afford to be a frequent customer, though. The interior is really cute and homey. They also serve ice cream. read more
