Originally opened in the 1980s in the Garment District, this is a tasty Italian spot specializing in Venetian fare that has an old-school flair, even though it only opened a year ago. From the decor to the slower but very friendly service, it definitely felt more like a spot from years back. I was here with one of the many food groups I'm in, with this one not splitting dishes. We had a bit of time to kill as a few of them were late, so I perused the drink menu. I got a glass of white wine for around $18, though I'm unsure of the exact variant, outside of it being a grape I had never had before. Of what I remember, it was a light body with mild fruits and some minerality. A few others had glasses of wine otherwise. They gave us some good-quality focaccia with olive oil to begin with. I started with the Tortellini in Brodo for $16 with ricotta cheese tortellini in a capone broth. The slightly dark but clear broth was nicely flavored and felt comforting with some mild saltiness. The pasta inside had a slight pleasant chew, and paired with the broth. This was simple Italian comfort food, but tasty. Others had a daily special salad, and another person had the $22 Barbietola, a roasted beet salad which seemed large and worth the price. My main dish was from the Tradizionale Di Venezia section. This was the $38 Fegato a la Venezia, with sauteed calf liver, caramelized onions, and polenta. I have had this dish from a handful of spots, as I love calves' liver, and this was excellent, as it was perfectly cooked. The preparation was more rustic compared to the most recent version I had at Noodle Pudding in Brooklyn Heights, with the liver served in two large pieces and covered in onions. The caramelized onions added some sweetness, while the sauce, presumably made with red wine and herbs, was slightly rich. The polenta, compared to some other photos online, was served on a large side plate and was also cooked properly, lacking any grittiness, being thick and smooth. This was excellent. Another person, along with the aforementioned beet salad, enjoyed the Venetian specialties, the $22 Baccala Mantecato with cod fish and crostini. From the portion size, it looked like it could be split as an appetizer, and she enjoyed it. Another person got the $34 Tagliatelle Bolognese, two people loved the $36 Linguine Vongole, and another person got a half portion of the Cacio e Pepe to go, which was presumably $16. I was very full from my meal, so I didn't bother with dessert. Another person ordered, I believe, the Chocolate Gelato with there also being other gelato, along with sorbets. As we were a large group, and presumably since we were the first diners, the very kind staff offered us a shot of liqueur, which was very friendly. I got some Sambuca, and I believe others got Frangelico with Amaretto and something else being the other options. They also gave us some Almond Biscotti, or rather Cantucci, which was a kind gesture. If you don't mind having a longer meal, I would recommend this place. The portions were good, the food was cooked perfectly, and the service was very friendly. I hope they do well, though the crowd in the local area should help this place stay in business, even if I think they probably do better a bit further north on the UWS/UWS. read more

Murano Ristorante at 120 East 56th (Between Park and Lexington Avenues) is an absolute gem and continues to set the bar for what a true neighborhood Italian restaurant should feel like. I enjoyed their Restaurant Week menu and every course was outstanding. The Caesar salad was crisp and beautifully balanced, followed by a spaghetti carbonara that was rich, silky, and deeply comforting without being heavy. The ricotta cheesecake to finish was pure bliss, light, creamy, and the perfect ending. The service elevated the entire experience. Boliver was exceptional, attentive, thoughtful, and effortlessly gracious. And seeing the manager Vuk is always such a delight. He has a rare gift for making the space feel like home, welcoming every guest with genuine warmth and care. Between the food, the service, and the atmosphere, Murano never misses. Stopped in for restaurant week and had a wonderful meal. We had the octopus which was perfectly cooked and the polpette which were also tasty. The bread with olive oil was lovely, especially the focaccia. My friend doesn't love gnocchi but wanted the mushroom sauce and they were so lovely to allow her to substitute with pasta. The branzino was lovely with a fresh citrus salad. Finished with the tiramisu and torte. The staff were so friendly and accommodating from the moment we walked in and the space was cozy. They did not have Veal Milanese but were willing to make it and it was delicious. The Osso Buco Roviolo was out of the world. It was rich but so delicious. While walking our dogs, we were passing by Murano and we were happy that we stopped in. An old school vibe with an authentic Italian flare. The Osso in Bucco ravioli is a definite go to. Do not expect a dish of numerous small raviolis. It's one large single ravioli. While at first it doesn't sound appetizing, it actually is made extremely well prepared and pleasant experience. We recommend this one. The tripe and spaghetti with clams are also a great option. Even if you're not a tripe person, this is the place to try your first attempt at it...prepared with great flavor and the right texture. Classy service with a personal touch. read more

A Midtown East Treasure -- Murano is a Must! Murano may be less than a year old, but it's already setting a new standard for dining in Midtown East. This restaurant earns its' (almost) 5 star rating. It is somewhat hard to find and when my wife and I peeked in, there was only one other customer so we had our doubts, but a couple of locals walked by and recommended it, so we gave it a try. So glad we did. My wife had the whitefish (I forgot the name) and it was super yummy. I had the best gnocchi I ever ate. The ambiance was nice, the deserts were good, but not as good as the main course. Price was not cheap, but not bad for Manhattan, and well worth it. read more

My friend and I stayed across the street at The Lombardy (recommend, it's a co-op and the room was quite spacious) so we walked over there for dinner. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. The menu was varied and had vegetarian options. I had the quinoa salad and my friend had the Caesar salad. Both delish. One thing we both appreciated was being able to order half portion dishes. I had the mushroom risotto ( great texture and flavor) my friend had a chicken dish which he thoroughly enjoyed. Ate here for a business dinner with a few colleagues. Top notch service, I especially appreciated the menu and wine recommendations which were sensitive to our budget. Food was excellent - I had grilled octopus as an app and spinach ravioli, a dinner special, and enjoyed both. The wedge salad was stellar, with a peppery dressing that made it so. We finished it off with Italian cheesecake (they also have New York style) and tiramisu. Limoncello finished off the night. The restaurant looks recently renovated. Great Italian restaurant in the Midtown East area. The food is very good, the portions are just right, and the wait staff is very kind and attentive. We had pastas (thankfully not overcooked, but prepared "al dente," fish (light and flavorful), and prosciutto & melon, great salads and cheesecake (both NY and Italian ricotta versions are offered, and both are good!). The ambiance is light and uncluttered, if a tad sparse, and the noise level is moderate, so it's a perfect spot for a dinner when you actually want to have good conversation! Wow, this is a fantastic new Italian restaurant. First, I did not plan on having dinner here but sat at the bar to have some wine before my planned dinner crosstown. After a kind welcome, greeting, and good pour of a Sangiovese, I began to have multiple conversations with some of their patrons and staff, who treated you like a friend. They explained that it was their soft opening with the grand opening to happen in the new year and recommended several dishes. So I decided to change plans and my family of 4 had a fantastic dinner including multiple appetizers, first, and seconds, and three desserts. Standouts included the grilled octopus, clams, and veal meatballs, all with strong classic flavors. The caeser salad and minestrone were delicate and balanced in flavor. In terms of pastas, the linguine and clams, tagliatelle with winter truffle (shaved table side), and the ossobuco raviole all had deep penetrating flavors. We are staying at the Four Seasons as we transit from the UK to Miami and wanted a restaurant close by and saw Murano. It only opened recently so not many reviews but we took a chance and went last night. What a piece of luck probably the best meal we have had in New York, it's a hidden gem. The manager Dominic and his staff are incredible and the chef is amazing. We are thinking shall we tell people about this as we would like to keep this to ourselves, however this will be our go to place every time we come to New York. read more
