Everything about this restaurant is perfect. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the table placement allows for quiet conversation which is difficult to find these days.. From the moment you walk in all the staff make a huge effort to make you feel welcome and they really go out of their way to please. Our server Narciso helped customize our meal and talked to the chef several times to make sure each dish was prepared exactly as we requested. The wine by the glass list is extensive and like the restaurant name, you have to order a fantastic Barolo of which there are two to choose which is quite rare these days as well. The portions are very generous. The pasta selection is huge and we settled on the special cavatelli made in house with a wonderful beef ragu sauce followed by the perfect Branzino opting for a lemon preparation which kept the fish moist and flakey. We ended the night sharing a delicious profiterole. The meal was paced perfectly and inspite of being crowded that night we were never rushed or hurried. One of the best Italian spots in the city and we are going to be regulars for sure. read more

What a cute spot! The homemade pastas were great. My husband and I both got one of the specials - my squid ink pasta special was pretty good (lobster was cooked perfectly) but his spaghetti was the star - I don't normally love spaghetti but the pasta texture was perfect and the sauce was out of this world - tasted almost like a vodka sauce. I had a decent dinner here, but it didn't get off to a good start. There was a gentleman who works at this restaurant (not sure if he was the manager) standing next to the front door who saw me arriving and struggling to open the front door but didn't help and then made an annoying joke when I was trying to find my party. I really liked the multi-level aspect of the restaurant (restrooms on lower level, bar on ground level, some tables on the second level and then more tables plus an outdoor space on the top level. Our server was also friendly and very attentive with refilling our drinks. I really liked the grilled octopus and burrata appetizers. The dessert (tiramisu and apple strudel) were also both delicious. I did not like my entree unfortunately (penne with zucchini and mushroom) mainly because the cheese used didn't pair well at all with this dish. I was able to just scrape it all off though. We did have to wait a decent amount of time between each course. Our dinner took a little over two hours. What a find! With being in New York only a few days and so many options it's difficult to find the hidden gems. I am not one to gate-keep so Barolo East is my pick. Service was friendly, I was able to make reservations on the app, showed up and we were immediately greeted by multiple people. It had that family vibe I love. We started with a round of appetizers, entrees and desserts. The buratta appetizer was fresh and delish, perfect for three people to share. We also had the grilled octopus which presented well and even though I'm not a huge sea creatures fan, it was delicious. Now the veal was by far the best of the dishes. I loved my penne zucchini e pecorino but I was pleasantly surprised after having a bite of the veal I certainly wanted more. Then to top off with desserts and lemoncello, it was perfect. We stayed much longer than we intended just because how friendly and delicious everything was. Plus being sat in the garden area was relaxing. The bar was packed, from what I can tell the bar were regulars that seemed to know each other which was special in itself. However I personally enjoyed being on the back garden deck. It was a nice, quiet area to relax and enjoy with friends. Overall, this is my new favorite spot in the area. There's a parking garage right next door for quick access. I would say easily a great place for family, friends, and coworkers. My tip is book a reservation in advance if you can. I went during the week but I assume weekends can book up. Here is another difficult review. The experience didn't match the price, hence 4 stars, and it is generous. So let's go step by step. Very nice ambiance, very busy restaurant, it was hardly possible to talk as the place was too loud. Wines are expensive. $17 for a glass of a very average white wine (probably one glass pays for the whole bottle). $90 for a bottle of Barbaresco might be okay, but most of the other choices were more expensive. Bread was mediocre and not made at a restaurant. Fried calamari ($20) were okay, served with a very boring sauce. One ball of burrata with two pieces of prosciutto and 3 slices of tomato - burrata was exceptional, the dish was tasty but for $24? We asked to share a pasta dish and the special veal dish. The waiter knew we are sharing the dishes. Veal was difficult to split in advance for sure, but being at a high end restaurant I was expecting that our gnocchi dish can be split in the kitchen - it was not and it was boring dish. Veal special was excellent and very tasty. We finished our meal with two pours of grappa. So let's sum it up - a bottle of Pellegrino, two appetizers, two glasses of wine, a bottle of wine, one pasta dish, one entree, two grappas - $190 per person (with tip)? If this would be an exceptional experience, I would have no problems, but considering quality of the food this is not okay. Good service, prompt and attentive. No recommendation here. read more

I cannot believe I didn't take photos of my food here, it was the perfect pasta. I had the "Pappardelle con Pollo e Verdure" and my friend had the "Bistecca". I walked out of there feeling like I was back in Italy. It wasn't too filling or too little, it was just right. From the second we walked in the Host was very nice to us. He walked us in and led us into the upstairs where there is an outdoor patio (it was closed, but still beautiful). We ordered our food and had great conversations with a couple of waiters and the Host. We really appreciated a place where we can have authentic food as well as authentic conversations. It truly felt like a nice family dinner. Cozy and dark. Clean, well decorated, intentionally authentic. This space is beautiful for dates or a night out with friends or family. I do wish the food is better because I work nearby and I was hoping to make this a regular thing. Anyhoo! We went with their eggplant rollatinis and burrata! Burrata was burrata, nothing to rave about. The rollatinis were pretty great. I did wish their sauce that accompanies it was more flavorful. (I go to Italian places to try their sauces and get disappointed when that doesn't live up) On that note, their in-house red pepper (?) sauce that they serve with bread is awesome! Given my app sauce did not wow me I did not choice a pasta course but their veal scallopini dish. Comes with spinach and potatoes, neither of which I particularly liked :( Potatoes were dry and low on seasoning. I tried my partner's fusilli in lamb ragu and was quite disappointed! We were in an Italian mood, wanted to stay local to our hotel (Benjamin Royal Sonesta), and hit the bullseye with this place. We are bar-sitters, but the table areas looked classy also. But, we chose the first seats at the bar, and had a fantastic experience. The bread, the salad, the Gorgonzola pasta, and the Bolognese pasta were all fantastic. Senka was our bartender, and Benny was the manager I kept bothering about how great a place he had. NYC has plenty of options, and I am no expert on all of Midtown. What I CAN say very confidently is that if you are walking, riding in a rideshare, staying ANYWHERE close to this place, and it is dinnertime and you are hungry, you need to stop by. A really lovely experience here! Came on a cold winter night for dinner and we were seated in the heated patio. The interior has a cozy, yet sophisticated feel which is perfect for an intimate date or for a group gathering. We started with the pear salad and calamari. We've come here for family dinners since Italian is one of our favorites (note the last time we went was towards the end of last year). I've now come here on at least three separate occasions but most recently, we ordered the following to share: Fried calamari and black mussels and clams with white wine as appetizers. For entrees, I ordered the fettuccine with bolognese sauce and my family ordered: arugula and parmesan salad, salmon with tomato sauce, basil and garlic, linguini frutti di mare (subbed spaghetti for linguini), filet of sole with lemon and capers, veal scaloppini with a brown peppercorn sauce, and a fish special from that day. Tiramisu for dessert as well, another favorite. The food here is solid Italian fare. The waitstaff is nice and you can usually see the manager walking around and even greeting people at the front before you enter and are seated. On days when they're busy, service can sometimes be slightly slower but if you flag someone down, they're pretty attentive. The fried calamari was crispy and the mussels and clams had a nice broth for dipping! In the beginning, you are always served bread with a sundried tomato and olive oil dip (not pictured) and this is definitely a delicious way to tie you over until the food arrives. We love asking for refills of the dip! For my family's entrees, the various proteins were cooked well and everyone enjoyed the flavors and sauces. I do enjoy a good meaty ragu, so my fettuccine bolognese hit the spot as well. I would say dishes are made pretty classically and taste as expected. Ingredients taste fresh and pricing is reasonable for NYC though also slightly more than some other Italian spots depending on what you order. Made reservations here a week earlier for a Saturday night dinner at 5:30 with 5 people total. We chose to dine outdoors as we were all still not too comfortable dinning indoors (this was the weekend right before the vaccine status to dine indoors was implemented). There's a couple of tables outside in the front and when we had arrived there were two two tops there. Just looking at the outside and knowing the area, one would expect this to be a moderately sized restaurant. Upon entering those assumptions were debunked. This is a nice a fairly sized restaurant. To the right there's a bars. Once you pass the bar there's stairs on the left the lead up to the main dining area and stairs on the right that lead downstairs where the bathroom and kitchen is located. The dinning room was completely empty at this time and we were seated outside in their courtyard (note the inside and courtyard were completely packed by 6:30). The tables were a bit snug but roomy enough. They had dividers in between the tables and lots of props for this, an air con unit for each table (that was pretty wild). Waiter was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and provided great service. He was attentive but not overbearing. Provided some recommendations for wine which the table loved (we had rose and a pinot noir). Additionally was through in explaining the specials. And amazingly my water glass did not stay empty for long, and trust me I was hydrating! We ordered 1 order of the buffalo mozzarella for the table. The waiter recommended we order 2 since it was small, however since half the table didn't want to eat cheese in addition to what would be in their main, we just ordered 1. And yes he was right the serving size is probably good for about 2 people. Food came out in a timing fashion and everything tasted decent. My only complaint is the veggies that came with my Vitello Saltimbocca were really bland, but I suppose that was balanced with my veal which had relatively salty sauce. Also since we were celebrating a birthday they were nice enough to give us a free dessert and sing happy birthday. Lastly even with the restaurant being pretty busy they didn't rush us out the door. We actually had to ask for the check. Appreciated that they gave us the time to finish our wine and catch up. All in all, decent food and incredible service. Will definitely be returning. read more

I walked by this restaurant every day for four years as it was near where I worked. It looked like an old school and classy Italian restaurant and it was. The manager was super attentive and our waiter checked on us several times. The food was delicious and both my friend and I cleaned our plates! The restaurant was busy and everyone seemed jolly. The only downside for me was that it took a long time to get our check after we asked the waiter for it and it was the manager who eventually brought it over. Went there tonight. Didn't get any photos but we had the calamari, lobster ravioli, and the orecchiette with Shrimp. All tasted very good. The service was very good too - very attentive and they had like 20 specials and the server described all of them impressively without notes. The food came out very fast and the presentation was nice. The Caprese salad is a very simple item but was sooo delicious.
