Ahhh, Murphy's--our super local neighborhood market and one of those places that just feels woven into the fabric of the community. Even though it's literally down the block from us, we still tend to do our big grocery hauls at ShopRite. But for everyday essentials? Murphy's is our go-to. Bread, milk, eggs, deli meats, quick staples--we're here all the time. It's the kind of place you pop into without overthinking it because you know exactly what you're getting: quality, freshness, and familiarity. Now let's be honest--it's expensive. Very expensive. But... it's also super fresh, and that's the tradeoff. The produce is honestly amazing, and much of it is locally sourced, which really shows in both the quality and the variety. Everything looks vibrant, well cared for, and thoughtfully stocked. I genuinely wish we could afford to shop here more often because the produce alone is top-tier. One thing that really stands out is how closely connected Murphy's is to the neighborhood. This isn't just a store--it feels like a community hub. They clearly put effort into being part of local life, and that shows in the little extras. For example, they host an Easter egg hunt for Easter, which is such a thoughtful, family-friendly touch. I'm sure they do other community events as well--we just haven't followed closely enough to catch them all, but the intent is very clearly there. They also have an attached liquor store, which is a huge plus. We often come here specifically for items that other liquor stores don't carry, and it's super convenient to be able to grab groceries and specialty beverages in one stop. And I can't talk about Murphy's without mentioning the bakery, because it's phenomenal. We get all of our birthday cakes from here--everything from simple, classic cakes to fully custom designs. They even made a specially designed pumpkin-shaped cake for my daughter's first birthday, and it was both adorable and delicious. That alone earns them major points in our book. One more thing worth noting: when items do go on sale, the prices are actually very good--sometimes shockingly so--making it feel like you've won a small victory when you catch the timing right. Lastly, Murphy's has three locations, which speaks volumes about how well they're run and how much the community supports them. Overall, Murphy's is one of those places you're genuinely happy to have nearby. He pushed my items down to the end, for whatever reason gave me a nasty look, and turned his back on me with zero pleasantries, as if I've offended him somehow not sure how I did this to him. I have to give this market 5 stars as I have been shopping in the Medford/Tabernacle locations the staff is extremely friendly and helpful and the meat, bar none, is the best you can get yes the prices can be a bit high, but I'm willing to pay for good meats and deli and also fish However, I think the owner would gain more business by putting more items on sale - seems like when you really need something, it's always retail price, so I have to supplement with ShopRite read more

Well first let me say, I use to drive 40 minutes to this murphys for their meat selection! Such an amazing selection & great quality! We recently bought our house in tabernacle! & love going there. The staff is so friendly. My young child likes that she can push her own little cart around! Recently I left my wallet in a shopping cart in the parking lot , after realizing 4 days later I called and asked if they had happened to find a wallet . I described it to them & they had it ! I was happy that my wallet was found. But I wasn't expecting the exact same amount of cash, if any be left in there but it was! Truly amazing honest trustworthy staff! read more

Want to shop at a locally-owned grocery store that places an emphasis on local produce with a decent variety of foods and a little pricey? Then Murphy's is your stop! It's a small-town grocer, and Tabernacle and Shaming sorely needed one, with a similar selection to that of a Shop-Rite with a slightly higher price point. You're paying for convenience and to save on gas. Deli serves Boar 's Head, a far superior deli product to Black Bear, IMHO, and they have better meats. They also have a good selection of booze with a good variety of local wines and beer. Staff is always peppy and friendly too. Very undeserved current rating though. Spoiled Jersey folk haven't ever seen a bad supermarket I assume. read more

I have been shopping here since 1991 I like the idea of a small grocery store they are not a national chain they can't offer the same prices as a national chain and those that put these negative reviews they should learn from their mothers if you have nothing nice to say you just shouldn't say it. It's an easy in and out if you have a complaint or an issue or problem they were rectified immediately please don't rely on these negative reviews. I shop the big chains Big L ots dollar stores and I still love my local Murphy's markets and by the way they support all of the local charities. read more

Store closes at 9pm. I walked in at 8 30 and was getting dirty looks and one employee snapped and said we close in 30 minutes. Another employee snapped when I entered the building. I don't know what kind of work ethic they have but you're on the clock at least till 9pm. At least that's the way it worked when I was working at a job. read more

Since the pandemic started I have mostly been using Murphy's. They are rarely as busy as ShopRite and I don't think they have put their prices up any more than anyone else. I have actually been able to find bargains occasionally. They have a lot more local food and produce then elsewhere. The employees are all great no complaints there. read more

This place is the biggest rip off ever. Prices are very noticeably & significantly increased. Shoprite & Wegmans has most of the same exact products for way less! The honey I like to buy is $15 at murpheys and only $7 at Wegmans. The beyond sausage is $5 at Wegmans and $9.99 at Murpheys. I usually refuse to 'donate' my money to the super rich owners of Murpheys. But while shopping during COVID, I went to murpheys because less people shop there- if I had went to Wegmans or Shoprite, even Whole Foods my bill would have been at least $115 less!!!! At Whole Foods the prices are increased but at least its for better quality product. Murpheys is a waste of time and MONEY. Go to Wegmans, you'd be much happier with quality, product selection, and prices! read more

OK, the highly critical reviews I have read on this web site are a bit over the top. Yes, Murphy's in the Pines is more expensive than large chain supermarkets, but I do find that I am able to purchase many specialty food items here that other supermarkets simply do not carry. The staff here tends to be very young and many of them could use some additional training in customer service. All-in-all, Murphy's deserves more than one star, but it certainly could use a bit of polishing in some areas. read more

Their homemade pot pies are so welcomed as food gifts, lots of appreciation after eaten. Easy to shop with quick checkout. Wine and beer availability make it one stop shopping. Don't forget their daily lunch hot buffet bar. read more

The prices are higher than Shoprite, but you can park close, get in and out quickly, and the store is easy to navigate. More selection and less expensive than Wawa! Just moved to Shamong, and my husband and I shop at Murphy's on Medford Lakes Road several times a week because it's convenient. It is too pricey, but since it's just the two of us the bill isn't too bad as long as our shopping list isn't too long. For a small market, the inventory is limited but it's really nice. They seem to have most of the essentials, plus some really, really good store-made fresh foods in their deli area. My only complaint (other than the place being pricey) is that they don't carry some of the things I use on a regular basis, so I end up going to Wegman's on Route 38 every other week. The disposition of the people who work there doesn't appear to be any different than anywhere else. I find that if I offer a smile and a kind word, and say "thank you" to the people who have helped me, including the cashier and the bagger (when there is one), my smile is graciously returned. read more

Skip this place! They are known for only hiring part time employees so they do not have to pay benefits. There are never enough cashiers because the store is too cheap to pay anyone. There are never any baggers except around the holidays. The owner was clever enough to obtain a liquor license and this is what draws people in. Everything is priced higher than local stores in the area but people go there for the convenience. Unfortunately I have had to shop there because my sister lives close by. Many of the employees seem very unhappy. overworked, and underpaid. Take your business elsewhere! read more

I have very similar experience as last review . When store was just open it was a bit better but now is like a big convenience/liqueur store . I will never forget when I asked butcher to grind a pice of beef for me and he was leaving in 5 minutes and told me if he will grind 2 lb beef only half will be for me as machine will eat the rest // wow only problem my dad was a butcher and I know that his statement was a lazy turn off for not doing a job that was simple but required cleaning ,a yes is convenience store , second watch out for sushi is always end pice you get ,always end with rice // that is master of sushi ,people aren't happy always sick with flu on registers looks like they cant take off? fish never buy unless you like to eat chemicals that help this fish stay a life for ever """ Bad management ,not consistent in quality ,, do way better that one on Stokes Road cash register there and other notes I will leave for others to discuss. read more

I have shopped all the Murphy's for 22 years and have not had a problem. I like the smaller store. You are in and out quicker.

Murphys market is a beautiful establishment but I was very disappointed with the treatment of the staff there they are very underappreciated for the work they do I had a question and asked an associate where something was the associate then pleasantly asked me to follow them so they could show me where the item was. The associate then got yelled at by a manager for "roaming" the store!! Very dissatisfied with this!! read more

I live right down the street from this Murphy's location, so it is convenient for me when I need a few things. I like the fact that they have a nice selection of Valenzano's wine, as well as a small liquor/beer section. It is a little pricier than going to the discount liquor stores, but it works if I don't feel like driving many miles to a big discount liquor store. However, some of the other reviews mention the customer service, and I must agree that many of the workers are younger people who really don't have a clue. I've asked a question at the deli several times to different workers, and got several different answers.....but what do you expect from part-time kids? Prices are little bit more expensive then other places but I guess for convenience of location I keep going back to shop there. The biggest issue I have with the store in TABERNACLE is the attitude of the employees. The older staff is SO rude. Walk right by you don't say good morning, or can I help you find anything. The staff from the cold cuts, slices my ham either 1 inch thick or so thin you can even pick one whole slice up. How about you ask me :" how would you like it sliced??". But whatever I don't go to Murphys to socialize or make friends .. but when the cashier asks me for my ID because I'm buying liquor, than she looks at my pic and says: " WOW what a difference",, it's safe to say that Murphy needs to train their staff a little bit better. read more

I love Murphy's markets. The prices are a little bit more than other large or discount stores but the staff is so nice and helpful it is worth it. I went online to see if the store was open today because of Easter and saw the bad rating and had to put in my two cents. When we stopped in to grab what we needed someone gave my daughter a balloon, then at the checkout she was given a lollipop. I can't name any other store that would have happened in. The company website for Murphy's Market says repeatedly that they are community minded. I didn't find this to be the case as described below. Also note that the Tabernacle NJ location is the "Corporate Office". On 2/4/17 the local (Tabernacle) Girl Scouts were selling their cookies as has been done for years at the Tabernacle location a.k.a. Corporate Headquarters. Yes, the Girl Scouts did go through the proper channels and received authorization to do their cookie sales. However, after about 2 hours, which means 2 different pairs of girls, they were told to shut down by "Steve" the manager. He was very irritated that the girls were there and said this is the 4th weekend in a row and that he was sick of it. The girls had to close up and leave immediately and turn away people who wanted to buy cookies but now couldn't because "Steve" said so. The girls were very disappointed and didn't understand why they had to leave. Quite frankly, I don't know why either. If this was (community minded) Murphy's Corporate headquarters, why wouldn't the manager know they were authorized to be there. Why, if he is a manager, does he not have the skill set or support staff to check if the girls were allowed to be there before forcing them to leave? His rude manner and actions against these local girls do not support any kind of community mindedness. I am disappointed beyond words. I know that this time of the year, people aren't always happy to see the girls selling the cookies at every store you go to. But, it really isn't that bad. People are always out side some stores collecting for something year round. If Murphy's doesn't wish to participate in this community event then they shouldn't have approved the girls to be there in the first place. Bad business, bad community relations. read more

On August 22 2014 I stopped by the Tabernacle Murphy's at 1:10 pm and asked the gentalman for an 8 piece fried chicken to go. If you are familier with the store layout it is near the dining area and bathrooms. Out of the bathroom walks a gentleman talking to one of the workers. The man walks to the self serve food area pics up the black serving spoon and starts eating tattor tots out of it with his fingers. I looked at him and said wow. He asked what was wrong and I said to him that is unsanitary. He said no it isn't and did it again and put the spoon back into the food tray. He then walked behind the counter to do something and that is when I realized he was some kind of manager or owner, I am not sure which. I asked the employee if he was the manager but the mployee said nothing. He the manager walked back over again looking at me and ate some more tattor tots out of the spoon with his bare hands. I said why don't you just put your mouth into the tray and suck the food out it would be easier. I did not buy the chicken and will never eat any of their quick food to go again. He was so arrogant and because I questioned him he just had to keep eating out of the serving spoon, because he could. As a manager or owner he could have just said ok and replaced the spoon but no he wanted to debate it with me. As a professional he was totally unprofessional. Makes me wonder if the employees eat off the serving spoons also when he is not around. read more

I was in the store and an employee named "Peg" smelled of alcohol was very rude and then I ended up in the check out line behind her and noticed the purchase that she was making consisted of alcohol and Tabaco products and paying for this purchase with an EBT card. When I had asked the cashier about those purchases being made with a food stamp card I get told that it is none of my business and that Peg is an employee of the store so this was ok. Peg then proceeded to tell me that if I didn't mind my own business she was going to punch me in the face. This is very unprofessional and I will never walk back in to this store ever again even though it is the only grocery store in the area I will drive out of my way just not to deal with a store that is so willing to break laws and allow alcohol and tobacco to be bought with something that is to be used for food only. As far as the associates in that store they have been noting but rude and smelling like alcohol really isn't that safe when this Peg works in the deli. read more
