Didn't expect much from a small town grocery. But, great spot that had what we needed after a long day. We got some fun drinks here to pair with the pizza we ordered next door. Grabbed an ice-cream, a couple of road snacks, and - the best purchase - a big banana slug plushie! For $20. They have some interesting local products and niche ice creams. Highly recommend the banana water. We bought it to try for fun, but it now might be my favorite beverage. Cashier was friendly. Store is clean. read more

I absolutely love all of Trinidad and Murphy's Market is no exception. Murphy's Market is an excellent market to stock up on everything you need. They have a large selection of items to choose from and the whole store is clean and very well organized. The market caters to both locals and tourists who visit because they love this quaint tranquil town on the coast. The service is excellent and everyone that worked there was friendly and kind. This place has lots of variety. They even had a section of British foods and Portuguese foods. It's open late so you can grab something to eat when you show up post dinner on a Monday when many of the restaurants in town seem to be closed. The hot bar was closed at 7:30pm but you could get stuff to cook yourself. We opted for microwavables and snacks. The Nena's chocolate bars are amazing. I was super impressed by Murphy's. Small building, but once inside I realized they had everything you could want. I liked this place better than any grocery store back home. We came in an hour before close and got a bunch of fun snacks. The two employees working were incredibly friendly, and it just felt very homey. Gotta say I'm surprised by the high reviews. I walked in to do some shopping for a week in the Redwoods was stunned to see an enormous cloud of FLIES circling the door and deli area. I was going to get a sandwich for the trail but flies were crawling all over their uncovered deli food. Are you kidding me? Gross! I changed plans and hit the packaged food section. I asked an employee (woman in her 50s, large mole on the left side of her cheek) about the location of an item and she snapped at me. I've never seen this woman before IN MY LIFE and she was so unnecessarily rude it was literally shocking. Because they're the only show in town maybe this is how they get to treat their customers. I'd rather drive to Eureka than give this filthy place a penny. Awful experience. read more

The service is atrocious here. Many times I end up just walking out empty handed because the 2-3 people behind the deli and meat counter will either completely ignore you all together or be extremely rude if you ask them to do their jobs. I usually let things like this slide but it's been multiple occasions in the last 3 weeks, Murphy's absolutely needs to restaff that department. read more

I adore Trinidad! It's a lovely community, filled with awesome treasures. Murph'y Market is one of them. I'm telling you now, add this place to your bucket list. Sounds crazy, I know. It's a grocery store. It's really so much more! Murphy's is filled with the typical grocery store items, and you can pretty much find anything and everything that you could possibly need. What makes Murphy's so special is the deli section. That's not to say that the other areas in the store don't, but this area Takes this up so many notches, but I was super impressed with everything. Let's start off with what's going on outside of the market. One of the nicest men you ever wanna meet, is standing outside, grilling up goodness. From tri-tip to burgers, etc. Diners Tip: order the tri-tip sandwich and add all the barbecue sauce you want. Not only is this the best deal of the day, it is super tasty. The deli section is magical. Craving a corndog? They make them fresh on the spot. Craving what taste like homemade potato salad, they've got that too. From sandwiches to a variety of amazing heated and cooked on the spot dishes, Murphy's has it all. read more

Back in June, when it seemed to our family that Thanksgiving was going to coincide with a spike in COVID cases, the Picante family decided to do something we had never done before: go camping for Thanksgiving. Sure, we've gone camping hundreds of times, but never for the Thanksgiving holiday-- a day always relegated for extended family getting together at my parents' house. Instead, we loaded the truck and the pop up trailer, and headed north to Patrick's Point State Park (another 5 star review in my book.) About miles down the coast from our campsite was the quiet little seaside town of Trinidad, and just off the highway is Murphy's Market. This became valuable information for us as we realized things we forgot to buy for our Thanksgiving meal prepared al fresco-- butter, broth, beer... you know, the essentials! Oh, and when a raccoon stole our entire container of Cool Whip and ate it right in front of us sitting in a tree... Murphy's saved the pies, too. Two things stood out to me about this great little mini-supermarket: first, for a small-town joint, they were amazingly well-stocked with realistic prices-- no "got you over a barrel" mark-ups, and they had everything we needed and a few things we bought even though we didn't need em! Second, the checkers, staff, and even customers were some of the kindest, warmest people I've encountered in a small town grocery. We have traveled all over the country, road-tripping through small towns you've never heard of, and sometimes you are forced to smile and tip your cap to some pretty inexplicable rudeness from proprietors of places you've just given money to. Not at Murphy's... everyone was nice, friendly, and seemed genuinely happy I came into the store. COVID Info: staff is all masked up, and signs on the door indicate masks are required for entry. Stickers on the floor mark six-foot distancing while customers queue for the line. Nota bene; if you have a trailer or camper attached in their smallish parking lot, you might need to do some fancy driving. If you're just passing through, or just bought a cottage in the redwoods nearby... this friendly little store is worth your time and your business. Murphy's is an ultra cute neighborhood market that I wished we had in my hometown. We are stuck with big supermarkets, with so-so delis and prepared food. Murphy's does it just right, where you can pretty much find everything you want. If I knew how to cook it, I would have bought some fish filets. They must be really fresh in this area. read more

This is such a cute little market. Located right off the coast, it seemed to be the go-to spot for locals, particularly fishermen. Dated and a little divey, but in a charming way, they had everything we were looking for on the early morning we stopped by. Surprise finds were vibrant bouquets of gorgeous locally grown flowers, artisan candies and chocolate including Dick Taylor bars, plus several other regional goodies. A gorgeous spread of fresh seafood was on display, and I so wished I were in a position to snatch some up for my own cooking. Their ready-made food selection was surprisingly large, with great variety. My husband got a hot breakfast burrito and coffee, and they even had a mini bakery case with donuts, muffins, and such. Prices were excellent, especially for many of the specialty items. It was not busy, and the single cashier was kind and friendly. read more

There is a pretty good selection for local wines. We live in Trinidad and if you are in a vacation rental you can eat out at Sunset Restaurant and on another day go grab some groceries at this quaint market and cook up something yummy! read more

I wish I could give this place a better rating but its just AWRIGHT. I guess I shouldn't be so particular because it does the job for a local community grocer. It does feel a little disheveled inside. The Good: - The people inside are wearing a mask during this COVID time. - They have a washing/soaping your hand station just outside the entrance. - There's a bathroom inside. - One time, I was standing in line for the bathroom and someone cut me. The employee stocking the drinks saw him cut me and told him that he believes there was a line and it was behind me. I thought that was very nice of the Employee for speaking up so THANK YOU. Could Be Better: - The service is average. - It doesn't seem very inviting inside. I think some renovation inside could liven the place up. We were spending some time in Trinidad as part of our multipart drive down to Southern California. We love this town and are always looking to enjoy the small downtown. This time we stayed at the Trinidad Inn just down the road but needed to pick up some food and water so we headed to Murphys. If you've driven through the downtown area, you most likely saw Murphy's from the outside as it sits dead center in the city. It shares the same parking lot as Headies Pizza and Pour and is across the street from the gas station. This is a great market with a number of available items that you would only expect from larger gourmet markets in larger cities. They have prepared food, wine, and many aisles of all the items you may be looking for. I always enjoy perusing the wine section and found their selection to be ample and reasonably priced. They have a number of local wines which we tried along with our dinner. Their service was quick but unfortunately most employees (along with patrons) were no longer wearing masks. Fortunately, there is plenty of room here to social distance from other people. I believe they are open until 10pm most days including Memorial Day in 2022. read more

A grocery market indeed. Don't leave out the deli, pastry display case with Just Desserts Cupcakes, and Public Toilets! Really appreciate the Owner and/or management allowing Public Access to toilets, during these Covid times many are not. And I often comment when there is a line up what are employees supposed to do. These ingenious people actually have two one marked Customers, one marked employees. This is a beach town and right of a well traveled highway so lots of us in need. Thank you, thank you. A good grocery store with very friendly people (especially the cashier and the guy managing the seafood counter). Lots of things to choose from - from freshly made olive breads, salami, cheese, fresh tender broccolini (instead of the usual boring chard and kale that you see in most of the stores here), and one of the best finds on this trip - fresh dungeoness crab, already cooked and cleaned for you! We picked up a 2 lb crab from the friendly guy, a nut cracker with 2 picks from the next aisle, and off we go to our lodge in the woods. One of the best meals we had on the trip! read more
