We reluctantly pulled over on the way home to ride out a storm and found this place. My 5 star ratings are based on my expectations and this did not disappoint. We ordered off of the lunch menu, had two rounds of cocktails, added on one salad bar and only racked up a $48 bill. Hubby had grilled catfish daniel--which was a hearty portion of grilled catfish covered with ettouffee and a loaded side baked potato. I had a shrimp and catfish platter--I am reluctant to order catfish because you never know if it will be clean or muddy tasting...this was fantastic! Both the catfish and shrimp were lightly breaded & lightly fried- no heavy taste of breading or oil. I also had a baked potato and it was definitely a treat on a lunch menu! Came here today for lunch with the family when leaving Heather's Pumpkin Patch. We needed something close otherwise the kids would pass out in the car. Despite the plain atmosphere, the food was phenomenal! I think that a little renovation would go a long way here in bringing more business. Particularly with new building signage to draw people in. It looks a little old and unappealing from the outside, would be easy to drive past. The food and service were great. The kids LOVED the fish tank. My two year old couldn't get enough of the fish. He can also be a picky eater and the kids grilled shrimp were delicious and he devoured them. Everyone ordered something different and enjoyed it all. The grilled tuna, pan fried tilapia with cream sauce and broccoli, surf & turf (steak cooked perfectly,) etouffee over fried Catfish. Also the Catfish in particular was very fresh and didn't have that fishy taste it usually does. If you're going to get one thing right, get the food right! Murphy's is the perfect example of this. No gimmicks or frills just good food and we'll come back. They weren't very busy so I hope they get more business! read more

Cute ambiance, friendly staff, AMAZING food. HUGE portions. I ate my left overs for 2 days after our dining there. My husband, mother in law and myself all agreed it was a good choice. Stopped in for the first time the day before Thanksgiving since our favorite catfish place, Middendorf's, was closed. Murphy's was a pleasure surprise. Great attentive service and the food was good. Well, tonight, my husband, 2 daughter's, son-in-law and granddaughter went to Murphy's for supper. We arrived at around 6:45 pm. They were quick to take our order for drinks and then came back to take order for appetizer's and our meal. 2 of us ordered cheese burgers, 1 grilled shrimp, 1 grilled fish, 1 seafood baked potatoe (which was on special) with eggplant appetizer and 1 baked pasta. The couple next to us got there food and finished. Another couple came and sat at that table, ordered and got their meal. Another couple came in and sat next to our table and they ordered and got their meal. And meal while at our table we could not even get a refill on drinks. The waitress kept saying it was going to be just a few minutes longer, but a few minutes turned into an hour. She offered us the salad bar at no charge. I had time to eat a salad from the salad bar and still no food. Everyone else was getting their orders, but yet they said they did not loose the order. Then it was 8:20 so we paid for the drinks and told them we were leaving. I made the Italian sign of the cross on Murphy's, as long as I live, I will never step foot back in that restaurant. To think we would go there at least twice a month. This one needs a no STAR. read more

Sat at the bar, as we normally do at Murphy's. We are not regulars but have been a few times with no complaints. Today, they just killed any enjoyment we had going here. Ordered Catfish Daniel and hubby got surf & turf, mid-rare on ribeye. Took 30+ minutes for our food to come out, and this at 12:30 on a Sat-they weren't very busy. Ribeye came out WELL DONE, baked potato lukewarm. My catfish was ok but was sitting under heat lamps for a while, sweet potato also lukewarm. Our potatoes could barely melt the butter we were given. Hubby tells and shows bartender the steak and mentions that it's been cooked well, not mid-rare. Did they do anything? Nope. Just an "oh sorry". No refill on my tea without asking. No checking on us at all during our 1+ hour visit. They brought check. Didn't ask even then if we needed to-go containers when 2/3 of our food was on the plates. Below sub-par service and I would definitely not recommend a steak here. read more

We had a mini family-reunion for lunch at Murphy's. The first thing I noticed was how loud the place was, though there were few customers. The floors are tile, so the sound bounces terribly. It was miserable trying to carry on a conversation. If they would put some area rugs down, it could go a long way toward dampening the sound. We ordered appetizers of crab claws (marginal, at best) and homemade onion rings (which were excellent.) Patsy's brother and his wife and their aunt had the fried catfish, which they all liked a lot. Patsy ordered fried oysters and asked the very friendly waitress to be sure the oysters were cooked extremely well-done. That waitress did a good job. Chuck got the fried soft-shelled crab from the lunch menu. It was better than most he's ever had. My order was the problem. I have owned 3 successful restaurants where I was the chef. I generally can tell how food is cooked from the taste. I'm almost certain the crawfish etouffee was started with a packaged mix. The cook did not remove the mud vein from the crawfish, so it tasted like feces, except for the fact that he poured the cayenne to it to try to cover the taste. There was a horrid raw flour taste to it, as well. It was a complete failure. I took a single bite and could eat no more. Chuck only smelled it and knew what he was smelling. I paid my bill and left a generous tip for the waitress, and nobody offered to take the horrid etouffee off the ticket. We no longer own a restaurant, but I'll be damned if I'll be that kind of customer who makes the whole group uncomfortable, but I'll tell you this -- the prices were good and service was great, but the noise level alone would keep me from returning. And I strongly recommend you not order crawfish etouffee. read more

I did not see one person who looked over the age of 20 in the entire restaurant to assist us with our Horrible service, refill any of our cocktails, bus away any of our dirty plates or hear any of our complaints for the entire time my party of eight was there. This restaurant has gone downhill over the years and I can say I am disgusted with the terrible service and will never return. If I wanted service this bad I would've taken my family after my grandmothers funeral to a McDonald's read more

Very disappointing. Salad bar was almost empty, and crab claws tasted "off." Fried shrimp was okay but should have been cleaned. Fries were "run of the mill" frozen variety. The only redeeming point was the fast, efficient staff. This was my first visit and will definitely be my last. read more

The food was just your typical reheated frozen food. Nothing special at all. Way better restaurants in Hammond.
