This place has a lot of potential for renovations - part of me is happy that it's kept it's Irish looking roots and seems homey like an Irish pub would but the other half of me thinks they could certainly use an upgrade to the building. They do so well on St. Patrick's Day and I wish it was like that all the time but it's a standalone establishment in the middle of neighborhoods so most people miss it or prefer to go somewhere where there are plenty of dining options around the area. I've always had a great time here! The Guinness flows and I'm always full. My Irish in laws LOVE coming here and we can eat as a giant family and have the nicest servers every time we come here. Everyone is able to order something different off the menu and the hot bacon oil salad is AMAZING. I'm still a bit confused on the naming as there use to be a Murphy's Steakhouse on Keystone/Fall Creek which I believe they once owned, but now it's a Jamaican restaurant. Went here for a friends birthday dinner. I went immediately after work and was dressed in scrubs. When I walked in I definitely felt pretty underdressed, turns out this is a bit of a nicer restaurant, which no one told me that. The food was really good and everyone seemed pretty happy with what they ordered. We had a large group of about 20 so we were split into two groups of 10 which made the service a bit faster and better because each group of 10 was assigned to their own server. for being a bit of a nicer restaurant the price of the food was really reasonable which surprised me. One downfall was I asked my server for extra lemon for my water , which took her a bit, but I was understanding due to it being a large party, so to take some of the stress off I went to the bar to get my own. When doing so I ran into the server and asked her if I could still have lemons and she got them for me, but grabbed them with her bare hands and put them into a saucer dish. I feel that it's a little nasty because I wasn't sure if her hands were clean or not. I'm sure things like this happen all the time in the food industry but it's one thing to assume it does and another to see it with your own eyes. read more

I'll begin this review by stating I am 100% aware of the fact that it was a busy Saturday night, on the day of Indy's Monumental Marathon. Decent weather too. That's why I made a reservation back in October, roughly 10 days prior to November 5th. Large party. Thirteen people. Seven adults and six well-behaved children. My children. Son & wife from Louisville Ky with three kids. Son & wife from Indianapolis with their girl. Daughter and husband from Wheaton IL and their two kids. Thirteen hungry people planning on a nice family dinner at Murphy's. Lots of logistical planning to get all these people to 52nd & Allusonville Road. Daughter's hubby ran the Monumental Marathon on 11/5. This is why we gathered Murphy's utterly stiffed us. We showed up at exactly 6:30pm and no table. After waiting 45 minutes, outside with the kids getting antsy, we left. Why make a reservation if the restaurant doesn't honor it? Stiffed, upset and boy, the people from out of town were ridiculing Indianapolis. And Murphy's. As they should. Bottom line. Don't trust this joint to honor a reservation. Worthless. read more

Fairly unimpressed by this iconic place. Went with some friends to grab a steak dinner and some drinks. Service was ok but the food wasn't that good at all. I ordered the Beef Oscar and it wasn't really as described. It was described as having a crab cake on top. I'm not sure if what I had was considered a crab cake. It was definitely chopped up fake Krab and not "crab". The description doesn't define that you won't be receiving real crab, which would have changed my order. I ordered my beef tenderloin as Medium and it was 100% well-done. The French onion soup was pretty good which was kind of the saving grace. I also had a really delicious martini. I had also ordered a twice baked potato and it was awful. No flavor or anything and really looked more like an order of potato skins. I didn't hate the place, but expected a lot more. A nice lunch location close to the State Fairgrounds. They have good lunch specials everyday. I had the tenderloin which was seasoned nicely and was thick and meaty. It was the perfect sandwich for lunch. Most places try to out do each other to see which tenderloin is the biggest. The wait staff was very friendly and on top of refills when needed. read more

Went for a team lunch today! The food is pretty good. Today, I got the lunch special- bowl of chili with a grilled cheese sandwich. I've had their patty melt and cheeseburgers which are also good! Their fries are really yummy too! The chili is solid- good flavor. Usually had a nice kick to it but not today. Grilled cheese- classic sandwich but a little salty and buttery! I really liked it though. I've been here a few times (for lunch) and they're pretty slow (hence why I knocked them down a star). I usually take a short lunch but have to extend it to accommodate wait times. In their defense, I'm usually with a group. Did not have high expectations after reading some of the reviews but hard to pass up 13.99 filet with baked potato and salad. Walking in we weren't greeted immediately but it didn't take long. The place is huge and has tons of seating. Appetizer of soft pretzel and cheese. I didn't care for the cheese but the pretzel was great. We both went for the above mentioned filet dinner. I got their hot bacon dressing on my salad and it took me back to childhood. My Mom would heat bacon grease and a little vinegar and pour it over home grown leaf lettuce. So yummy! The steak was very tender and had good flavor. The baked potato was...well a baked potato, add butter and sour cream YUMM. Dessert was blackberry cobbler it was fantastic. It too tasted much like something my mom would have made. Average age of customers was pretty high. Decor was pleasant. Hate that everyone has TVs ever place. I have been frequenting Murphy's for the last year; ever since I moved to the area. I have always been met with the kindest of people as well as the best service around. Parking is plentiful and this place really give you the "hometown" pub feel. The patrons are friendly and the staff is outstanding!! Had dinner here on a Saturday night. I ordered the filet and a twice baked potato. Ordered the steak medium and it came out well and was cold. I am not sure if a person who had not eaten in a week could have eaten this steak. If that was a filet I would hate to see the lower quality steaks. The twice baked bake potato was cold as ice and did not taste good either. I let the waitress know this and she brings out an empty plate for me to put the potato on and takes it and microwaves it and brings the exact potato back to me. Be clear, this is neither a 5-star restaurant nor a 5-star steakhouse. You can find better steaks and better, classier restaurants with more frills. But I give Murphy's 5 stars because it does virtually everything you would want a family owned steakhouse to do at reasonable prices. I've been eating at Murphy's since they were at the Keystone location. I didn't know anything about Flynn's Pub and had never been there before they merged. They definitely had a rough period there afterward. But they worked it out. The menu is diverse, with plenty of cuts of steak, numerous burgers, really good sandwiches and platters and a good assortment of appetizers, your standard bar bites type of stuff. They also have a full bar with a variety of liquor, wine and craft beer. The last time I went, I had the NY strip. It was excellent. No, it wouldn't challenge what they serve at St. Elmo's or Morton's, but it also is about 1/3 the price. It comes with baked potato and a salad as well. With my iced tea and tip, I think my total bill was between $25 and $30. I've always had good service there. They have a number of regulars, usually older folks who have been coming there a long while. They have a big dining room as well as seats in the front room near the bar, so there's usually a minimal wait. I just like a locally owned place such as this one that does the best it can. Again, it's not an upscale steakhouse or one of your chic Mass Ave eateries that will cost twice as much for food that isn't really all that great. I will come here as long as it's open. read more

I'd been to Murphy's when it was on Keystone, years ago, and I'd been to Pat Flynn's, also years ago, but this was my first visit since they merged. Once again, this place is MUCH larger than it looks from the outside. I like the color scheme quite a lot, it's warm and inviting, and the staff is cordial and friendly. For dinner, I had the tenderloin sandwich, and, let me tell you, this is a dandy. It's obviously hand breaded, and the pork was tender, moist and tasty. I felt like the breading could have used a little more seasoning, still, I wouldn't hesitate to order it again. The french fries were good but not exceptional. Still, it was a tasty, satisfying meal that I recommend. We were part of a larger, private group, and much of the group felt the service was a tad slow, however, I do realize it's tough to plan for large groups. All in all, a well above average experience. Murphy's Steakhouse is a local staple. It has been around forever and isn't likely to go anywhere anytime soon. It's a great place to go for steak without breaking the bank. I've only visited their original location once. This is my first time visiting the new location. Arrived around 1 to meet some friends for lunch. The places wasn't every crowded, so it didn't take long to be seated. Unfortunately things did pick up and they appeared to be short staffed. Our waitress was trying her best to keep up with everything. I wasn't in the mood for a filet and was curios about the pretzel sandwiches they offer. I ordered the turkey Gouda pretzel panini w/fries. It was pretty standard and good, but nothing exceptional. The food is consistent. Just nothing spectacular although rumor has it that their cobblers are exceptional. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit, but I definitely would return to this local staple. read more

Really nothing to complain about here. Good basic food combined with consistent service. We tend to wander in here on Thursdays for a steak special, but every meal we have had has been good and often I end up with the meatloaf dinner, served with gravy and mashed potatoes, it's just good, comfortable and consistent. Dessert options change around but we've been happy with our cobbler and pie selections. Not always the liveliest of places but you can tell there's a good regular crowd coming in and there has been live music and performers at times. I really wanted to love this place, as we moved very near here. The first time, I ordered crab cakes. When I got them and took a bite, it was like someone had dumped an entire salt shaker in them. Completely inedible. But hey, I decided to give them another chance. So we went there tonight. Ordered pan fried cod. It was raw in the center. The server offered another but I said no. So she said that shrimp wouldn't take long, so I said ok. Plus, who can screw up shrimp! This was flawed thinking. The first one I couldn't find the shrimp. Another was raw. So she said the shrimp was more then the cod, but she only charged me for the cod. Now, I don't expect a free dinner. I did expect the manager to show up, but they never did. I have lived down the street from Pat Flynn's for 10 years, and cant believe Ive never been here before. We stopped in for a late bite, and got the fish and chips and a reuben. Fish and chips are huge chunks of whitefish with a light delicious breading served up with coleslaw and crispy fries. My new favorite fish and chips spot! The Reuben had a generous amount of tastey corned beef and sauerkraut. The interior is nothing fancy, its a little dated, but they certainly make up for it with the food and drinks! The twice baked potato side was anemic. I mean it was basically a potato skin (sorta). I know this place is a classic and well loved but I don't know, it really missed the mark. I was sitting next to a large table of coworkers who did nothing but complain and talk loudly about how much they hated their job and their bosses. They drank heavy and were obnoxious. My friend had the flank steak, but it was over cooked and not per her instructions. The waitress was extra attentive and helpful. There is plenty of free parking in the mall lot. Here from out of town visiting family who have been here several times and liked this place -- I can see why. PRO's The food was excellent. I had the French Onion Soup which actually tasted like it should another individual in our crowd had the other soup and liked it also. Our steaks came out as ordered. The meat tasted very good Shame on them for not ordering the fillet as mine was the best. What really impressed me was the baked potato -- not only was it baked just right, but the butter which was brought out was mostly melted -- thus it didn't cool the potato down like so many other restaurants who provide butter in hard lumps. Our server was top notch, I wish I could remember his name but he was spot on, he was friendly but not over powering. He delivered the food in the right order and any requests were promptly addressed. Thank you so much. Best PRO was the price -- can't beat that with a stick. This is my favorite restaurant ! The staff is friendly. Erin at the bar makes delicious drinks and is a good listener. The atmosphere reminds me of the show Cheers, but even if you are a first timer; you are treated as a friend.
