Not the worst dinning experience but far from the worst. Looks like a nice quaint place to come grab a drink but the food could use a little love when seasoning. My first time ever eating clam chowder and I actually enjoyed it. The steak just fell short. I ordered a 12oz NY Strip with a side of fries $18. Fries were ehhhh but that's what I get for getting fries (Leah sent hers back) steak was more ehhhh given the price. Apparently the tenderloin was good (kicking myself) service wasn't bad either our server was good best part was the way she pronounced pizza "pezza" lol. The fried lobster was pretty good too. On a Friday night, this place is packed! We had to park at AAA next door. Upon arrival, the decor is homey, like you came to grandma's. The crowd overall was 60+ so we felt like the youngin's. There's a bar area but we chose to sit in the dining room. We were surprised there was no wait but it's a large building. There were several TVs on sports channels and dance music playing pretty loudly. Our waitress was pretty nice but very busy and never had the chance to check on us. I ordered the ribeye with a twice baked potato and The Monster, which is a mixed greens salad with hot bacon dressing. The salad was awful. Really bad. The dressing, the lettuce...ugh. The ribeye came cold and I could tell right away because the butter on top wasn't melting at all, but the steak had good flavor, minus the large amount of fat. The twice baked potato was very underseasoned. Overall, the food was pretty disappointing but I think we'll give this place one last try on a Thursday for $13.99 filet mignon night. read more

I love Mom and Pop places. Seriously i do! This place has a great feel to it. Nice quiet music, great ambiance, and a really good variety on the menu. I ordered the New York Strip with salad and house made potato chips. The salad comes with celery, which I don't like, so that was a bummer. The potato chips are almost over cooked and have no taste at all. I had to salt mine and could have used some ranch to dip them in. The steak however was very good. Cool just how I ordered and had great flavor! We will be coming back to check out the Filet Mignon special they have on Thursday's. I will just make sure to get different sides next time! read more

When we lived downtown we went the Murphy's regularly. It was quaint, booths were private, lights were low, staff was incredibly friendly, food was top notch. I'm not sure what happened in the last five years, but it makes me a bit sad. We went for our grandmother's birthday as she was hadn't been in years. 1. Our server was extremely rude. I don't know if she was having an off night or if she was just upset that they only had a few servers for the entire restaurant, but at no point in time was she pleasant. Except when she said thanks for coming. 2. I thought a law was put into place a couple of years ago doing away with the automatic gratuity, but be aware that if you have a larger party they tack on 20% immediately. 3. The worst crab cakes I've ever had. Mostly filler. Just don't waste your money. Oceanaire, Ted's Montana Grill, Ocean Prime...these they are not. 4. I asked for a chocolate martini and it was just vodka and Godiva - no Baileys. I know that wasn't the server's fault. I asked someone else for Baileys and when I told her what it was supposed to be she looked at it like, "that's not a chocolate martini." Ha! 5. Make sure you know what your "number" is when you sit down. What is your number? Whatever the previous waitress wrote you down as on the piece of paper. She got so irritated that we didn't know what they were. Are you kidding me? I'm not the server! 6. You have to ask for bread and you get one per person. We felt sort of scoffed at for asking. We had diabetics in our party and it took more than an hour to get our meal, s the we needed something. 7. The redeeming quality was a decent steak and a warm bacon salad. Not enough for us to make the drive all the way from Avon again, though. Every experience will be different, but this was ours. read more

They make their own hamburger from the steak scraps so I guess it's a real steak burger. Try the French Fries too, they're perfect in my opinion. I ask for a side of BBQ sauce to dip them in. The food was just ok. Ribeye lunch special was overcooked, asked for medium rare, got medium/ medium well. Also a very tough piece of meat. Sent it back in exchange for a filet. It was raw in the middle. The burgers were not cooked to the temp requested and for what we got was just overpriced. Try getting some experienced cooks or train them right. The nicest thing I can say is the food was edible. For the most part. One steak in the group was so rare (and not as ordered) it wasnt edible. Crab cakes were awful. Server was horrible and super rude. Took one order at a time, in a large party then would leave. Forgot several in our group. Several orders were wrong. People asked to cancel their food and we were told it was and then it was brought out. I understand our group was large but service was still unacceptable. ( You have one job.....) So we had to order something else and then that took forever. Continuing my journey visiting places around the neighborhood and my husband took us to Murphy's. I enjoyed the ambiance, the Old school steak house feel. Our server was very prompt and friendly. I had the large filet with potato. Child #1 had the BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger. And children #2&3 shared chicken fingers and French fries. Child #1 really enjoyed her burger. She consumed the whole thing. It looked wonderful. I had bites of the chicken fingers and they were very good. They seemed to be fried in a cornmeal batter. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of five is because I ordered my filet to be cooked medium, and it was medium rare to rare in the inside. I know for most people, that would be phenomenal, but I just cant do the texture of rare. Other than that, the whole experience was really enjoyable. read more

This was much better as Pat Flynns. Since they merged with Murphy's Steakhouse, my husband and I both ordered steak. My 8oz ribeye looked grey when it came and was cooked medium well when I asked for medium rare. My husbands 12oz ribeye was cooked medium rare as he asked but was about 40% fat and cartilage. Both steaks were very bland in flavor. Also for dessert my husband ordered a slice of peanut butter pie for us to share. It came covered in pecans which I am allergic to. I've never seen a peanut butter pie covered in pecans and the menu did not say anything about the nuts. Very glad we were there as part of a volunteer appreciation dinner and didn't have to pay for this lousy meal. I expected so much better for the price and for the fact that Murphys was such a long standing steakhouse business here in Indy. read more

New location but all the charm of this Parks & Rec favorite. No frills, you come here for meat and potatoes. Paper place mats and napkins set low expectations but the food makes up for it. Better than any of the chain steakhouses in this price point. You can't help that you recognize everyone eating here. The unfortunate truth is that Murphy's at the new location on Allisonville Road has NOT in the long term upheld the high standards that had been the case for all of those years at the Keystone Avenue location. If I could give this restaurant no stars, I would have! This is the worst dining experience we have ever had, anywhere! We made reservations here tonight because we had not ever been here before - well, this is will be the last time! We had terrible table service, almost not existent! Our salads had 1 inch of water in the bowls. Our food took forever and when it came, the filet was no where near what was ordered. I sent it back twice and had to ask for a new steak to be cooked - it was awful and never was made correctly - the last time it was cooked in the microwave. Cold and hard baked potatoes! The manager was rude, hit my daughter in the head with a pan, didn't bring eating utensils when requested and our server was no where to be found, ever! The manager knew there was a problem and never apologized or asked how to make things right for us. Think twice before you spend your money here! read more

Our first time at Murphy's was last week on a Wednesday evening. We will be back! The music of Dave Lowe was such a pleasure to enjoy while we dined. He is quite personable and we like that. We ordered the Reuben, Patty Melt & the Burger with Blue Cheese. All were quite tasty and cooked to our liking. The fries are very yummy!! Our only complaint and the reason I will not give Murphy's a five star rating for this first visit is because we did not have one specific server take care of us through the night. We had three different servers visit us and it was a bit confusing at times. The gentleman who waited on us was the most pleasant and friendly of the bunch. We would have enjoyed having him wait on us the entire night. We will definitely return. Actually, I can't wait to go back! read more

I ordered three meals and an appetizer to be delivered to our home through Grub Hub. Only two meals and an appetizer were delivered, and when I called the restaurant, the woman who answered was extremely rude. She said I only ordered and paid for two meals, even though I was looking at my online receipt. Then she chastised me for ordering through a third party and said I should call them directly. Eventually she saw that there were three meals in the order, but instead of apologizing, she suggested that we could get the meal at another time. I insisted that would not solve our current dinner needs and she asked what I wanted her to do - someone could come and get it - she didn't know where I lived! Completely frustrated, I turned the matter over to my husband who ordered and went to pick up the missing meal. Our meal was well over an hour late, and the medium rare steaks were tough and chewy. Unfortunately, I did not have a positive experience at this restaurant last night. It was due mostly to the rudeness of our server. I ordered my dinner that included a salad. I always ask for my dressing on the side. When my salad came, the dressing was on it. I told my server, and he proceeded to argue with me telling me I didn't say, "on the side". I was with a group of people and those around me confirmed that I said it. His response was, " she may have told you, but she didn't tell me." When the meals came, the server said I didn't order the meal that I said was mine. I hope he was just having a bad day, but it was bad enough for me that I will not return. read more

Dinner last night was really bad. The decor has improved but not the food. The fried potatoes were black and tasted like charcoal. Everything was served cold. Murphy's at Pat Flynn's is a great venture between two strong places that made each other stronger. We were attending a private event one week, and their Saint Patrick's celebration the next. So yes...two weeks in a row. They have a nice event room in the back, where we were for the private event. I had the classic wedge salad, and it was really good. My only disappointment is that the bacon bits weren't real. It's the little things that makes something special, and this salad could have been made ten times better with that little change. I also had a bowl of Northern bean soup, which came out only slightly warm. Our server was very good about taking it back and warming it up quickly - then it was perfect. And it was served with cornbread - which was incredibly good! Not too sweet, and incredibly moist. A week later on Saint Patrick's Day, it was an incredible time! A truly memorable experience! I had the reuben that night, and it was very good! I have a feeling we'll be going to Murphy's a lot more in the future! read more

Been going to Murphy's for thirty+ years. I was very pleased way back then when they replaced Calloways. It was hard to do but they improved a popular spot. Now they've done it again. I'm a longtime Flynn's fan too. I've been eating at Murphy's Steakhouse for about 25 years, and have never had a complaint. Great steaks, otherwise OK food, reasonable prices, excellent service, and a pleasant, warm atmosphere. I took my fiance there for dinner on Saturday, Nov. 11--her first Murphy's experience, and likely our last. Her salad and my onion soup were OK. Then our entrees arrived. Both were inedible. I had ordered the prime rib special, medium-rare. It was GRAY, and looked as if it had been cooked after it was sliced. The top and bottom were done to medium or medium-well; only a thin layer in the center was pink, and there wasn't much of it, as the whole slice was only 1/2" thick. The texture was mushy. The flavor was off--way off. Not "high," or rancid, or gamey, but a very unpleasant taste. Not something anyone would want to eat. (The baked potato was perfect.) My fiance had ordered the fish and chips--her go-to when she isn't sure of anything else. Delivered by a stranger, not our server, the fries were missing, but that was quickly rectified. The alleged tarter sauce turned out to be what we believe was honey mustard dressing--this could also have been easily corrected. But the fish...not fixable. Instead of filets, what came out was big chunks of fried fish, which initially looked rather nice. The breading fell off at a touch. The centers, though not cold, were wet and slimey, rather than flakey. It had an unpleasantly fishy taste. As if it were overcooked and undercooked at the same time. Fryer temperature way off? Or, heaven help us, was it frozen fish? Understaffed, our excellent waitress was unable to pay proper attention to us. Overall, a horrible experience, and because I was a big Murphy's fan, a major disappointment. We paid for our beverages and fled.
