Caseus Diem is located on the ground floor of one of the new-ish buildings creating the canyon in the 30s on SE Division. The folks behind the counter were welcoming and well informed. If you plan to visit (and I strongly suggest you do), be sure to check their website for their business hours. They are open from Wednesday to Sunday, so you'll want to stock up to get you through the seizing of Mondays and Tuesdays.

There is a performance space at the front, a wine counter (for by-the-glass purchases) on the wall to the left, and the deli counter at the back of the store. The center and the right wall are devoted to shelves and shelves of bottles. A good order of events is to stake out a place to sit, then go to the deli window and make a food order, and, finally, visit the wine counter go find your beverages. You can then sit down with your wine and wait for the freshly made sandwiches to be brought to your table. One thing I have not found is complete information online about music performances. Their FB page has some tasting and music events listed, but I've been to others that I've only known about by word of mouth. I'd advise dropping by, shopping, and checking out postings in the store for upcoming performances.

The Trader's here is in a large strip mall with big box stores so parking is never an issue. Inside is big and spacious, bright and clean with wide aisles so you never feel like you are on top of other shoppes. Yes, the cleanliness is because it's new, but the spaciousness is due to the design. Props for that. Well stocked with all the typical Trader Joe's items, as stores are pretty universal. Trader's isn't we here I do all my shopping, but when I'm looking for cheese, crackers and charcuterie items, this is where I go. I also love their affordable bagged salads, sugar snap peas, Persian cucumbers, small curd cottage cheese, and eggs - all affordable weekly purchases. Can always find decent wine at affordable prices, too. When they are offering tastings, I always give them a try and discover something new. And of course the 99 cent greeting cards are a steal! Plus the fresh flowers and plant section not to be missed. currently they have bromeliads which have one single bright orange, red or yellow bloom that lasts for months. I have about a half dozen! We were offered samples by the cheese maker's husband, who shared the story of their business, her journey from her early days at Cowgirl Creamy in Marin, to starting her own company, & advised us on their offerings. While tasting, we could see straight back into the cheese making facility, with people busy at work. It just doesn't get any closer to the source than that. We enjoyed each Briar Rose cheese we tried, but particularly the Butterbaby, a soft bloomy rind Guernsey cow's milk cheese, and their sweet, tangy, spreadable formage blanc. I wish they had been tasting their semi-soft cheese washed in Riesling and wrapped in Spruce bark, called Strapping Evelyn, but it wasn't available to sample the day we stopped by. We picked up several cheeses to take home. A must for anyone who likes an authentic farm stand experience.

Also, they are able to accept debit/credit cards which is a huge added convenience (I think you buy tokens with them and then use the tokens to buy actual products). A lot of the sellers here you will not find at the big Hollywood or PSU farmers markets, so it's nice to know there's more variety and another non-weekend market to consider! It's definitely worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood! Biking or walking there is highly recommended :-)
