My desire for shaved ice was rekindled with my most recent trip to Grant's Farm. It was a hot summer day and I knew some ice cold shaved ice would hit the spot. I got a strawberry shaved ice for family and the kids devoured it. I, unfortunately, was not impressed by the shaved ice experience and knew there had to be something better in STL. My Yelp search landed me at Murray's Shaved Ice. I went alone the first time to scope it out (well actually the kids were in bed, and I just really wanted some time alone and some shaved ice). Here's are some things noticed: - Like everyone has said there are so many flavors, some are straightforward, other's you'll need to ask "What is ____?" - The sizes may be misleading. They will be bigger than they seem because of the shaved ice ball they will add to the top of your cup. - They don't skimp on the syrup. I will probably ask for less syrup the next time around, if that is even possible. - There seems to only be street parking, which can be a bit of a pain. - If you pay with card, it's an extra 50 cent charge for each transaction. - There is limited seating, and watch out for bees/wasps. With there being so much sugar water drippings, there were some bees/wasps I had to watch out for. A great place for a cool treat in the summer. I've already come here again within a week of my first visit. read more

This is probably the best shaved ice I've experienced in St. Louis. The ice is so fine (not pebbly) that it just melts on tongue contact. The mediums are giant, the smalls are giant- I can't imagine ordering anything larger (talk about sugar rush)! They are always served with a giant ball on top. You can ask for a lid, but then you are just missing out on another 3 inches of ice. Special flavors are extra flavors cost another quarter, but 2 flavors is always better than one. I've posted a menu from 2019 so you can see current prices and flavors. Parking on the street is available in front of the stand. However, I've parked in the service station next door (they are usually closed when the Shaved Ice stand is open). read more

Good Bye Ted, Hello Murray. Murray can satisfy my sweet craving with much fewer calories and fat. I've lived in the Lindenwood Park area for over 8 years and have never gone to Murray's Shaved Ice. I had no idea what I was missing. This is a great little mom & pop shaved ice shack. A perfect complement to our neighborhood. They offer a huge selection of flavors and I was pleased to see my two favorites were among them. I am very partial to wedding cake and dream-sickle. Six sizes are available from Kiddie all the way up to Murray's Monster. Prices are great too. The Kiddie is only $1.75 and the Monster is $4. Tax is included, making it so much easier for those out walking. Tonight I ordered a small Wedding Cake and it was just perfect. Totally refreshing treat for the walk home and to finish on the patio. A big bonus point or extra star for Murray's is that they offer Doggie SnoCones. They rotate the flavor between beef and chicken. That is so cool, my dogs love ice cubes as a treat and in their drinking bowl. Can't wait to see how they will react to chicken of beef flavored ice. read more

After trying a few other shaved ice places, I finally made it to Murray's before they closed. The parking is a little tricky, but I found a spot. I ordered a small. At $3 I expected it to be the size of others in the area. It was HUGE! My go-to is Tigers Blood and this one didn't disappoint. The flavor wasn't too sweet, it was just perfect! There is quite a bit of syrup in the cup, but I'm a fan of that. If you're not, you might want to ask for light syrup. Over all 10/10. read more

Started this review July 2013. Might as well finish it. Could get it much more often, but I've proven I can have self restraint. I love shaved ice and as far as I'm concerned this is about as good as it gets. Seems reasonably priced, large selection of flavors, friendly service. Couldn't ask for much more. They even have a beef flavor for dog's. Our pug Oscar gives it a paws up for sure. Usually walk and eat it on the way back to our house, but the couple of tables are pretty sufficient, otherwise you can stand for a few minutes while you eat. Looking forward to many more visits here while living in the neighborhood. read more

For her birthday, my wife wanted a simple meal: a cheese burger at O'Connell's and then Italian Ice. And this is when I learned that Italian Ice is a Chicago thing that we can't get here in St. Louis, where we are expats. Albeit, happy ones, but expats who miss Lou Malnati's Pizza, Portillo's hot dogs, and apparently Italian Ice. Enter Murray's. It is awesome. Not Italian Ice, but ice nevertheless. It's a stand on Watson road. And by stand, I mean a shed with windows. You pick your flavor from about 30 different combinations and a sweet syrup is sprayed onto the cup of ice. Insert straw and deliciousness is perfected. It's fun and we'll go again. read more

I think shaved ice is the best way to beat the heat of summer. Its like ice cream without all the fat. A great shaved ice can not be beat. Murray's Shaved Ice is good not great shaved ice. A nice selection of flavors but I didn't see any additives, such as cream that you could add. Murray's is run out of a trailer (really a requirement for shaved ice) but unfortunately they do not have any good areas to sit and enjoy. There are a couple of tables with plastic chairs next to busy Watson road. Service is good. Very good hours (open until 10pm, unlike Kirkwood's TroMo) so it is the preferred late night Shaved Ice place in St Louis. read more

AMAZING! I tried the cherry bomb my first time there and wow! Blew my socks off! A friend suggested getting snow cones and I'm used to the crunchy ice balls. My first taste of "shaved" ice was mind blowing. I had a hard time deciding on a flavor as they have SO many.
