We walked into this little place in Brenham, TX because we saw that it was THE diner in town. Must be Heaven, they said. Well, not quite. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the creepiest child-size puppets. We almost ran out of there. But bravery is a virtue, so we persevered. Enter the line: portraits of local Brenham kids or stock photos (not sure which) lined the walls. The eyes were following you. And not just the pictures. The locals too had their eyes fixed on us. But the worst part (yes, it gets worse) was the smell. The smell was invading--like the odor from decades old grease, or pastry desserts that were left out for too long, or a wet sponge. I've never felt compelled to write a review, but I'm quite afraid even a stray dog would've of turned its nose to this "food." The roast beef sandwich was RUBBERY, if you like to gag I would recommend this. The only thing that was tolerable was the pre packaged potato chips & sweet tea which I took to go. We took one bite and RAN out of there like we had seen a ghost. They microwaved both of our meals right in front of our eyes?? I have never experienced something like that and hope to not again. This review is based on customer service and a really stupid policy. So I had placed a order to go which I intended to take to go. My children went in with me and decided they wanted ice cream so I got that for them. I was rudely told that since I had to go food I had to go outside as we were not allowed to stay inside with to go food at a table while the kids ate their ice cream. And why go here for Blue Bell when the creamery is not very far away and you get double the amount for only a dollar and here you pay triple the price here. There are plenty of other places around that will get my business and don't charge as much for soup and a sandwich. I used to always come here and make sure I sent people here but that changed. And if this is the policy about to go food you might want to put in writing somewhere in big bold letters so there is no confusion. read more

So walking into this place is like taking a step back in time. Definitely like the way you feel like poodle skirts and greaser haircuts are back in style when you walk in. The location is heavily dated like it hasn't been touch since the 50's or 60's. The lighting in the restaurant is a little low for my taste but the ice cream/dessert selling side is way better lighting. Super bright. Very inviting. Food is good for quick service. Semi-cafeteria style dining where you walk with your tray and wait for your food. Blast from the past. Portion size is huge. $8 for my french dip on what seemed like a 15inch hoagie roll. Lots of roast beef slices and good amount of cheese. Au ju dip was very flavorful and NOT overly salty. Broccoli salad was different. A little on the heavy side being its cover honey mustard dressing with grated cheese and diced bacon. But nevertheless it's a refreshing change from french fries. Bread pudding is super rich and sweet. If you have the room you have to try. Tons of cinnamon and raisin goodness. read more

Really good food. Stopped here for lunch after visiting the Blue Bell Creamery. I had the specials. Crawfish Quiche and Tomato Florentine soup. The Quiche was light and fluffy, with just the right amount of bell peppers and tomatoes to add flavor; but not overwhelm the crawfish. The soup had pasta shells, rice, celery and carrots with of course tomatoes and spinach. (Served with crackers). My husband had a hoagie. He liked that it had a lot of meat and cheese that was heated on a toasted hoagie roll. His sandwich came with a bag of chips. Everything was ver good, if we are ever passing through again I would definitely stop for lunch. read more

We stopped in on a sunday around 2:30 and it was a little (read: ridiculously) chaotic. With a 3pm closing time, i guess everyone was trying to get that last slice of heaven (ugh sorry, too corny). Apart from waiting for 20 minutes for a cappuccino, a frappe, and a slice of pie, i LOVED everything about this place. The interior is adorable & the pie we tried was soooo perfectly made. We got lemon meringue pie and then picked up a slice of Dutch apple pie for the road. Both had the perfect blend of flavor & texture to make them memorable & now i will definitely be returning to try the rest of the pies next time i'm driving through brenham. :) read more

If you want to find the best grilled cheese then go no further. My husband and I stopped in for a quick snack I got the grilled cheese with pesto and marinara sauce. It was awesome! We were here for lunch on a Sunday and the line was pretty long. We had a big group and had reserved the private room in the back. It was a nice sized room and the décor in the room is very Victorian doll house. It was for a birthday party and they even provided plates for our cake that we brought in. There was a minimum food amount that we hit easily. The only thing was that everyone in our party had to order at once. That meant standing in line at once and cutting in front of people who weren't part of our group. With people arriving at different times, this made it difficult. The food was otherwise okay. The menu consists of mostly sandwiches. I had the French dip and although hit came with tons of meat, it was extremely salty. Showed up 20 min to closing...not on purpose..and the place was quiet. The staff was super friendly and I loves the atmosphere. So lets begin I had the chicken salad sandwich and it was delicious. Just like it was made in my grandmas kitchen. My father had the monte Cristo and that thing was stacked. All sandwiches are served with a pickle and side of chips or apple. His monte Cristo was flavored well and smelt amazing. Next my madre she had the salmon sandwich normally I wouldn't get something like this in a small town cafe but well she's my mom. It actually looked amazing and mom said it was super moist and very flavorful. It looked plump and delectable . My kids got kid meals and they came in these awesome cardboard cars!!!! The place was packed but the service was quick! You stand in line and order. You wait by the grill for your sandwich or stuffed avocado. Each sandwich comes with chips and pickles. The grilled cheese and pesto was to awesome. I didn't want anything too heavy and even in the Texas heat this one hit the spot. You also get a cup of marinara to dip it the sandwich in. Talk about so many flavors! The bread was thick and perfectly grilled with just enough pesto to not overtake the take of cheese. If I had added bacon it would be my new go to meal for lunch. Must Be Heaven also has a huge selection of Bluebell of course for your dessert but their cookies and pies compete for which to order. Even just the simple chocolate chip will hit the spot! We are local people and love Must Be Heaven. My daughter and I had lunch there yesterday after church. She had the half Muffuletta and I had the French Dip Sandwich. Both were wonderful and the service was good as usual. We did not order dessert yesterday but love the homemade pies and cookies as well as the hand dipped Blue Bell Ice Cream. As someone who lives in Brenham, we really enjoy the great food and service, and appreciate the owners who support the community in so many different way. I am one of the few select who decided to give MBH a 5? Really? Come on, people. My friend took me into downtown Brenham recently, and I liked that there was an abundance of little coffeeshops. Not surprising in a town that is so well-established... due to Blue Bell! Must Be Heaven provided us with a quality local joint in which to hang out. The inside is reminiscent of a classic Texan rendezvous eatery, with a good amount of booths and a cafeteria-style order system. I dropped in for a slice o' pie and a cup o' joe to bolster my travels. They have a good pie selection, and they have a very quick sandwich service. They also have some solid coffee choices. I would recommend this joint to anyone who wants some homecooked grub or something sweet. And who doesn't like a full salad bar at your disposal. The peach praline pie was phenomenal. The crust was buttery, crisp, and rich. The moist inside was chock full of peaches. The "Jet Fuel" coffee was bold and intense. Good stuff to perk you up. Must Be Heaven? The patrons, who I assume were locals, were giving us the stares- I thought it was my imagination, but my friend independently mentioned it after we left.
