I been coming here for years now and it is my go to spot if I just want traditional sushi. I have had almost everything there and nothing ever disappoints me. Its not just another sushi spot that is trying to jump on the sushi craze like all the chains or half off sushi(who would trust 1/2 off sushi?) One thing to keep an eye out for is their specials. Sometimes they will have flying fish sashimi other exotics that are always worth a try. They never over season and know how its supposed to be done. My mom and I have a long standing tradition of nomming out big on sushi whenever we see each other; since she's been coming to Chattsworth for work conferences lately that means about six meals a year of unadulterated, delicious uni, hamachi, shiro maguro, etc, etc. You name it, I want to eat it. For the past year and a half we've gone to the same sushi spot, and when my boyfriend found out - he immediately had me do some research to get some variation into our lives. In walks Omino Sushi and I swear, my sushi life when I visit my mom will never be the same. We were promptly seated at the bar and right away, we could see how beautiful and marbled the various fish were. We gleefully ordered away (and I actual mean the royal we, because I ordered for the three of us). We tried the Amberjack, the Uni, Blue Fin Tuna on top of the normal gamut, and left absolutely stuffed yet still wanting more. Time to update this review... My sushi tastes have definitely changed in the last couple of years. I now live very close to sushi row on Ventura Blvd. where every other restaurant is sushi and there are a million delicious (and some awful: I'm looking at you Sushi Mac!) places. Beau and I were up in the area visiting my parents and he said he didn't think there was "good" sushi away from Ventura Blvd. Well ok, then... Omino sushi for dinner, it is! We sat at the sushi bar. I ordered some salmon sushi and then promptly told the chef that I like eating nigiri and asked him what was fresh and good today. I love doing this because it tells me if the sushi chef is good and knows his fish or if they suck, looked panicked, and just say "well, the tuna is good... Or the salmon." This guy brought out some really frigging good fish. I had some black snapper and some other really delicious food. Not the standard fish. I had engawa and... I'm kicking myself because I can't remember the names of the others but I do know that he had to write my fish selections down on the sheet instead of it being standard and having a box. Frigging good. I enjoy doing this kind of eating a lot. It's almost omakase-like because I told him yes to everything he offered... Almost. Ok, so I didn't like everything. There was one thing I couldn't handle. It was *cue dramatic music* amaebi. Sweet shrimp. Look, the tail was delicious... But I CAN NOT handle eating eyeballs. And legs. And brains. And guts. They brought me out the heads and they were LOOKING at me. I'm not that adventurous. The chef thought I was hilarious. I can't handle eating soft shell crab, either... I tried it, though. A for effort. I didn't conquer my fear of the shrimp heads, though. So good. I'll be back, for sure! read more

Omino Sushi was a great discovery for me! I don't have a lot of Japanese restaurant favorites in the valley, so im glad we stumbled upon this one! I love sukiyaki and im so glad they have it here! It's kinda pricey for me, but i can tell that their food and sushi are all fresh :) will definitely be back again! read more

This place is SO GOOD!! Definitely one of the better sushi places out in the valley. It's not Americanized like the other places I've been to. I feel like it is a bit overpriced but they have some really good stuff on the menu. I also like that they have a Chatsworth roll. I find that anything that's a special on sushi menus are really really good. Baked scallop was little too creamy for me but my sister was really over the moon for it. Blue crab roll was really really good too. Very fresh and tasty. The staff are really good too. Prompt and professional. read more

The sushi was good. I'm not a huge sushi fan, I just went with my wife since she wanted it but I did enjoy the tempura shrimp roll & the California roll. The lobster roll was too creamy for me. The seating area is very small. Lots of customers though. The wait time wasn't to bad. The server didn't speak English well so ordering was alittle hard when we had questions. I wouldn't go back though. Plus for dinner there is a $30 minimum order per person! That's insane! read more

This place is very solid. The fish they have here is some of the freshest I have tasted anywhere and it comes in a wide variety. The Nigiri is reasonably priced and substantial in size. Their spicy tuna is the best i've tried anywhere and the blue crab roll is pretty damn good also. Its nice and small so its a relaxed atmosphere inside, but it can get busy, so come early. The only knocks I have are that its a bit pricey for certain items. Edamame is 5 bucks and large beers are 7.50. That's way more than other sushi places, even when they're pricey themselves. I understand charging extra for fish, but not for beer and soybeans. Aside from the high prices, this place is one of the best around for straight up sushi. read more

Best spicy tuna rolls ever. Hands down. They use Japanese mayo so it's sort of creamy, and I love love love it. Their amberjack sashimi is also fantastic. They put some sort of garlic/green chili combo on the top of each piece along with salt and there is something about those flavors mixed together that do great things. Parking is pretty horrible. The lot is small, and Bank of America next door is in fact getting stricter on their parking. Get there early and it shouldn't be a problem. read more

This place never lets me down. The fish is always fresh and unique. I told Randy to give me any white fish he recommends and make it his way. WOW, it was amazing. He told me the fish was from Japan, since I don't know what or where the fish is or from I trust he was honest with me! Also, they use this green stuff that is salty and hot that they call Japanese relish...whatever it is it sure makes the already good fish even better! One small dab of the stuff is all you need. They have good food and sushi. I ordered the tuna dinner, which was delicious. My boyfriend didn't like their ponzu sauce and after he mentioned it, it did taste a little weird to me. We ordered a lot of food and it wasn't too expensive. I'd recommend this place and I want to go back. I just would avoid the ponzu haha read more

Already knows I dont want ginger n sets me up a plate of my ultimate fav, salmon sushi and albacore.:) the albacore and salmon just melts in your mouth with that yummy ummy goodness. June always knows I love my ponzu sauce (not that fake crap u get at those wanna be sushi american places) with green onions in it! Omino is one of the main places I miss so much from L.A. mainly because it's where I discovered japanese ceviche. I heart japanese ceviche very, very much. The japanese ceviche and jalapeno ponzu yellow tail are truly bombastic. The prices are pretty high though... not relative to quality but more relative to amount. I found the portions very small on all of the dishes I tried, as well as the dishes I saw others order, too. In regards to atmosphere, there's *no* atmosphere. "Borefest" and "invisible" would describe the atmosphere. Service was very abysmal and forgettable, too. In a nutshell: come here for the food and don't expect to like anything else. Excellent quality sushi in a little strip mall in Chatsworth. They are the real deal native Japanese sushi chefs. I wouldn't call myself a sushi snob...but I've had plenty of good...and not so good sushi experiences around the world. I'd say that Omino is top notch in terms of quality. Yikes, this place is good! After searching for a good sushi place nearby, I noticed such good reviews I had to try it. Despite the fact it was a rainy Friday evening, it was pretty busy, which was a good sign. Both guests and servers seemed to be in good spirits, which was another good omen. When you walk in the door, immediately to your right is the well lit sushi bar with sushi chefs busily preparing various creations for their guests. Off to the left is the table area, with a number of the tables well within view of the sushi bar. We opted to sit at the closest table near the sushi bar. We started off with a sunomono salad, and while eating, perused the menu, which is quite extensive, including daily specials. A couple nearest us at the sushi bar seemed to be rather consumed with what appeared to be some sort of thin seared tuna slices in ponzu, and upon asking our server what it was, we immediately ordered the seared ahi sashimi. We also placed orders for spicy tuna on crispy rice, spicy tuna roll, and soft shell crab. Our servers were both friendly and attentive. The dishes were excellent all the way around - the yellowtail was moist and tasty, the seared ahi was sublime. So good in fact, we wanted to place another order, but by the time we finished everything we were quite full. Another nice touch is they will make spicy tuna without mayo, and extra spicy if you wish. All in all, one of the best sushi places I've been to in a while, and can't wait to go back for our next visit! read more

This place is fancy in terms of price. May be I am just cheap, but we went there just for lunch and people eating there were ordering some high-end stuffs like uni and hamachi head. I found this place just using Yelp looking for good sushi in my new area. The food here is so good! The service is great, fish is really fresh, price is very reasonable for the amount of food you get. We always feel so welcome coming here and I look forward to every couple months or so. The yellowtail sashimi is really good and the octopus carpaccio is to die for! The restaurant is a little small and always seems crowded. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for a seat though. The parking lot is small, but there is some street parking available. read more

If you want Japanese food from the 90's, this is your place. The decor reminds me of my Aunt's home in Japan. She hasn't decorated it since 1994. I do like the fancy Japanese robot toilet with the seat warmer in their restroom. The chefs are all Japanese and remind me of my Grandpa and Uncles. It's one of the few Japanese-owned restaurants left in the area. Literally everyone is Japanese. My food was extremely salty. The tempura was ok. Seaweed salad was good. The rolls were great! In Chatsworth, this is the only place worth going to in town for sushi. read more

Should you have lunch here - and can live without Teriyaki-whatever, try the Box Lunch. If you know o-bento then this is that - a bunch of small containers filled with a range of goodies. The two pieces of fried chicken - fresh. The sashimi - tuna and salmon - no better or worst than anywhere else. The grilled salmon? Nicely done. The tempura - very average, very. Perhaps the miso soup was the best thing - a typical miso shiro but not made with a heavy hand, overly sweet miso - and the dashi that went into the base, pretty light. I ordered the salmon sushi and when eating it I bit into a PIN BONE. First time ever in my sushi eating life. That is why I just cant give it 5 stars for the food even though the head waitress was very apologetic and was very impressed at herself for taking it off my bill. By far the worst sushi establishment i have ever been to. Service was not helpful, i asked for extra sauces and was rudely starred at. The manager complained we asked for too much sauce, and then refused to bring it to us. Overall a rude staff, and not friendly environment. I had come here many times before and will never enter this place again and will tell all of my friends when i share this post on facebook. Very disappointed with this place.
