They're also bumping some smooth R&B grooves at this relaxed spot. Oxtail Tacos: The shredded oxtails are soft as a pot roast, which is no surprise after six hours of slow braising. The shredded kale and onions add crunch and contrast to the tenderness of the meat. Roasted tomatoes and a whiskey reduction combine to produce really impactful flavors. I'm disappointed. I've wanted to try this restaurant out based on the high reviews, but sadly, it was a disappointment. We went for a late dinner at 8 p.m. The restaurant was basically empty, with only one table being served, which we probably should have taken as a sign. We sat down, and the waiter, who was nice and friendly, handed us the menu. This is when things started to go wrong... After giving some time to look over the menu we called the waiter over. Everything my date wanted was no longer available. Crispy turkey meatloaf... not available Oxtail tacos... not available Plantain callalloo tacos... not available. Um, what? What is available, sir? And why didn't you inform us that half of your menu wasn't available when we sat down? Oh, and they also ran out of soda; they only had wine available. We ended up ordering the following: Fried Green Tomatoes Catfish on cheesy grits BBQ fried chicken with gries We thought well at least the food would be good right? Wrong. The fried green tomatoes had a HAIR on them. At this point, I couldn't help but laugh at how bad this experience was. I called the waiter who was very apologetic and said he wouldn't charge us for it and put in a new order. We got a fresh order but it just wasn't good. Tasted like breaded tomatoes with no seasoning. Catfish and cheesy grits. The fish tasted off not fresh. I was so hungry that I forced myself to eat it. Again no flavor. The cheesy grits were ok. BBQ fried chicken. I often daydream about their gumbo! So much flavor and filling, while not being too salty. I recommend pairing it with the cornbread as well! My Two Cents feels like sitting at an elder's house who wants to comfort you with delicious food. Its a family/chill energy...cozy/dress as you please vibes. There's a small parking lot next to the restaurant. The service team are great but it can get busy and a little loud. The food was so comforting. All the meat is cooked to perfection so it's soft and juicy. Personally, I loved the meatloaf sandwich the best. The patty is delicious with some crunchy bits inside. The cornbread is on the smaller size and came out hot and fresh. They may run out of some things. For example, we got mac n cheese soul spring rolls since they didn't have their regular mac n cheese. I used to come here when it first opened and I'm glad to say that the quality of food is still the same. Really tasty southern style food. There's a number of gluten free options and also vegan offerings which made me happy. I had been craving oxtail so the oxtail tacos were perfect- juicy, tender and loaded with onions and kale so I got my veggies as well. My friends liked their shrimp and grits and also the fried green tomatoes with the remoulade. The food was amazing, and the service was great as well. 4++ great soul food spot near the Fairfax / Mid City area. Has a warm, family/ home style cafe vibe to it. The folks here were very friendly. It's order at the counter style and they bring out the food. So the presentation is beautiful and it still has a fast casual feel to it. This place has been on my go to list for a while now. Finally got to go with couple of friends. I ordered the fried catfish with the cheesy grits as a side. The grits were delicious and had a nice firm texture to them. The fish was fried perfectly with flakey bites and crisp outside. I got to try some my friends shrimp and grits and oxtail taco. Both very good. Definitely a great spot that I would love to return to and try some of the other stuff on their menu. There are a lot of desserts there that I would like to try as well. My 2 cents: (Not about the food) A restaurant opened to the public must meet basic standards...wouldn't you agree? We all had been so excited and eager to try Chef Alisa's unique and creative take on Southern fare. We all watched her series on soul food on Hulu and finally found a day we could stop in as a group of family and friends. In a party of seven, with most tables inside empty!, the server had us waiting to be seated for an unusually long time. So we waited. And waited. I ducked inside to ask to use the restroom. The server told me it was out of order. I asked if the problem would be fixed soon. Adamantly the server told me no, that it would not be fixed. So no toilet to use? Server, NO. I asked 3 times! I was shocked and I told the server that that is a health code violation and rejoined my party waiting outside. We were all stunned, no functional restroom?? So we left Very disappointed not just about a broken toilet, but about how uncaring and nonchalant the server had been. That and what kind of restaurant doesn't have a functioning restroom for customers? "A" rating and all?!? FYI - Yes, it is a health code violation for restaurants not to have functioning toilet facilities, particularly if they serve customers on-site. Restaurants are generally required to provide clean and accessible restrooms for both employees and the public, ensuring they are maintained in good working order. As we were walking away, the server ran out and told us the restroom WAS working and that she had been mistaken. It was as if she or some other staffer who overheard our conversation realized what a major issue it is not to have a restroom for patrons. We just nodded, waved her off, and left to find another restaurant open to serving our party. read more

Unfortunately, the bbq fried chicken, while juicy, was bland and the skin was flacid and falling off of the chicken Big disappointment. As far as the sides, the dirty red rice had an okay flavor and was the most seasoned item. The greens, though tender, were entirely too bitter and acidic. I have so many thoughts about My2Cents. On the one hand, as a GFree patron I love them for their Gluten Free options. There are not many places where I can find good Gluten Free friend chicken, fish and/or Grit fries, which I crave from time to time. On the other hand, the portion size for the price is not justifiable to me. I want to support small businesses, and eat flavorful and healthy foods without spending an arm and a leg. These days that might be too much to ask for? I understand you pay for quality but every time I go, I feel like I am overpaying, thus the reason I can only go 1-2 a year. A positive thing is that the customer service has improved. Unfortunately, I went in a Sunday and it was not clear to me online that only the Sunday Brunch menu would be available. So just a heads up. (I ordered mine to-go and did not get the egg that comes with the brunch because I was told they don't do to-go eggs. I wish I would have known this in advance because I felt like I was shorted.) Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised at all the vegan options. The place is small and cute and very clean. The pastry and dessert options all looked so appetizing. Parking is very limited, so you'll have to scavenge for street parking. Service was solid, we were greeted and assisted promptly. It's a chill spot and is good for a lowkey brunch/lunch. When we left, they did a call and response thank you which was pretty sweet of them. I initially wanted the oxtail tacos but they didn't have that. I order the channel catfish instead with the sweet potato crumble and the lemonade. That meal was filling! It was an interesting blend of sweet and savory, but it worked. I definitely recommend. I found My Two Cents while searching for a brunch spot in LA and I am so glad I visited, especially since I supported a black owned restaurant! I was eyeing the catfish but they were all sold out. Unfortunately for me (since I am a pescatarian) there weren't many options on the brunch menu but I decided on ordering the waffle with sweet potato hash. I saw this restaurant featured on LA Unscripted and wanted to try it. Unfortunately my group of 5 came late and they were out of many items. We sat in a booth and a young man came over to give us menus and advised us to order at the counter/pay. The food came out relatively quick except for the sandwich. Pork chop was a bit over cooked but the sides were delicious. Shrimp and grits were enjoyable as were the greens and tacos. No unusual tastes, just good food. The drink, Tom Ford (their version of Iced Tea & Lemonade) was yummy. It took a while for our cases to be served because a group came in to order takeout and we had to wait. The strawberry cake was good but all the cakes were dense. We all prefer a tender, fluffy, and airy cake. The chefs playlist made dining enjoyable. This was a cold January night and the restaurant was cold; as the front door does not close all the way. I got up to close it twice. Servers were knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant is a nice quaint place and you can eat there however, I noticed that many patrons were ordering to go. The service was nice and the employees were helpful with our selections. They didn't have many of the items on the menu because we stopped by around 5pm and they were sold out. We ordered oxtail tacos, catfish tacos, beet salad, Rosemary smashed potatoes, crack cake, and cream cheese cake. I honestly can say every single item we ordered was amazing. However, the oxtail tacos were so good that we forgot to take a picture of it. I only wish they were bigger than street tacos because they were that good. The rosemary smashed potatoes were amazing as well. They have a hint of garlic that I love. The cakes were delicious and we had to take the remainder home because the slices were huge. AMAZING! Been waiting my husband to try this place for two years! Finally tried it and it lived up to the hype and then some! The atmosphere was very much your at your mommas house for spring break and she is making your favorite breakfast food Very welcoming and warm The food was delicious! We both had the Belgian waffles but I had sweet and my husband had the chicken and Belgian waffles Both came with an sunny side up egg and honey biscuits Also delicious! Not overly thick like Popeyes, they tasted like Pillsbury doughboy and graham crackers did a collaboration and made breakfast biscuits. And hello! Black woman owed! FIVE FAT STARS FOR THE SHRIMP & GRITS. Served a la carte during Sunday Brunch for $20, this is a spectacular dish of grits with a generous helping of shrimp up top and a cooked egg on the side. There was a thin soup of tomato and broth at the bottom of the plate that absorbed well into the grits, too. Just a huge hit, all around. My plus one had their chicken club sandwich, as they were out of the po boy sandwich on the brunch menu. His sandwich came with a little house green salad on the side. He was a fan of his meal, as well. The place is quite small, but offers indoor and outdoor seating.
