COMBO FRIED RICE WITH LOCO MOCO!
    Kevin I.

I haven't been here for 21 years... Went back this morning for spam and eggs and it felt like I ate here yesterday.. Unfortunately, I learned the original owner Mary passed away 10 years ago, so pleasant to know the food quality and ambiance hasn't changed a bit! If you're into Hawaiian/Asian/American fusion incorporated in an Old School coffee shop, you will love Tak's!

One of my fav places for breakfast. The best service and the best wings. It always feels like home here.

I know of this place nearby but never really went until know. Parking is ample in front and back. The restaurant is small but I went on Saturday at 11:45am and there were plenty of seats. Loco moco: I ordered a loco moco for $15. I think the price was very affordable. 5/5 Denver omlette: The omelette was also $15 with rice. 5/5. The 2 strips of bacon and orange juice were $5-6 each and I think that is expensive. Service was quick. And I have nothing to complain about. There is a $1 charge if paid with debit or credit though. Overall I would come back to this restaurant.

The food is great, especially for the price. Food came out fast and hot. The service we received felt like as if we were regulars. Even the true regulars that come in talk like they are good friends, which they might even be. The atmosphere of the place gives family owned and managed. Great for parties of 5 or less because it is not very big. I will definitely come back here again

Smokey, umami goodness. Got sunny side up eggs with runny yolks that just melt together with the gravy, rice, and pork. The sweet, buttery roll soaked in the gravy is also such a good addition. 100% getting this again! -Chicken Long Rice: a little different than the ones we tried in Hawaii (different noodle and more veggies in this one) but still so comforting and delish. Heartwarming and gingery goodness. -BBQ chicken plate: also very solid, not super sweet like teriyaki and comes in a decent sized portion. Mac salad is legit and so good - perfect consistency and seasonings. -French toast: one of the best! A superb doughy, chewy, cinnamony, thick cut slice that I drowned in butter and syrup. Ordered take out and it was ready within 15 min or so. Parking lot looked tiny but we just parked on the residential street and it was a quick walk. Wish I lived closer (I'd be here all the time) but totally worth the trip - will be coming back again very soon!

Loco Moco entree: Dish was okay overall. The burger patty was dry because they formed the patty to be thicker so it doesn't really retain much of the juice or flavor. Cole slaw had more mayonnaise cream compared to other Hawaiian restaurants which was a bit bummer. Stand out regarding this dish was the veggies side, it was slightly sweet due to the miso glaze. I haven't been served glazed Hawaiian veggie dish before and it was definitely yummy. Spicy shrimp garlic lunch plate: I would say this dish is better than the loco moco in the standards to flavor. It's a must to pair with with rice because with my Asian palette it was too salty for me.

Over the years I've gotten take-out here but have also done dine-in. It seems they mostly do catering now, because they have very short business hours for the public. They are only open Thursdays and Fridays 10-3. Per the nice male employee who gave me my order, they're open on Sat and Sun if they don't have a lot of catering jobs, otherwise they're closed. Their website says their dining room is closed, but the employee says it's open Thurs and Fri. Nevertheless, I followed the website's info and ordered pick up. Here's what I ordered: 1) Komai's Big Breakfast. Komai was Aloha's original chef. Two eggs with all the meats: Portuguese sausage, Spam, Vienna sausage, corned beef hash plus 2 scoops of rice and a Hawaiian roll. No surprises here, very nice. 2) Kal B Chicken plate lunch. Chicken marinated in the same sauce as the more familiar kalbi beef short ribs, with rice and mac salad. The chicken did not seem to take up the marinade as well as beef, so it was tasty but on the dry side. I'd probably give their chicken teriyaki a go next time. The mac salad was fine, did have potatoes. 3) Spam musubi. Again no surprises, classic 4) ordered a side of char siu, but it was not available. This is my third visit and every single time it delivers. This is an Indonesian/Hawaiian restaurant -- and a seriously impressive one. The menu spans both worlds, and no matter which direction you go, you're in for something special. Take out only, no tables, but trust me -- you won't care. The 4 Piece Indonesian Fried Chicken with rice is an absolute must. Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. The crust is insanely crispy, the seasoning is perfect, and the Indonesian dipping sauce ties it all together in a way that's completely unique. This alone is worth the drive. The Hawaiian plates are equally impressive. The short ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the beef and chicken were perfectly marinated -- sweet, savory, and deeply flavorful. Everything comes with rice and a creamy mac salad, and the Hawaiian Sun drinks (Mango Orange and Strawberry Lilikoi) are the perfect companion to wash it all down. Plates run between $16-$20 but the portions are generous and the quality is exceptional -- you absolutely get your money's worth.
