This is a good little coffee shop tucked away in a little plaza on Crenshaw boulevard. I was across the street at the funeral home for my friend, he was taking way too long and I wanted to grab something to eat. So I looked on Yelp and saw Tak's coffee shop. The thing that caught my eye was the asian and Hawaiian fusion and the picture of the Portuguese sausage looked so good! I walked across the street and headed over to the restaurant and upon arriving, I was greeted by two ladies who quickly pointed me to a booth and handed me a menu. I told them I wanted the Portuguese sausage, rice and wheat toast. About 5 mins later she was coming out with my plate. Everything was so good and tasty even the rice was good with a little butter. I also ordered half lemonade/ half orange juice and that was the hit too! Overall, the place was clean, the service was good and the food came out quick. Had bookmarked this place since we moved into the area a few years ago. Finally decided to try it after also learning about Tak's history and how it used to be a part of the Holiday Bowl. Tak's is truly a hidden gem and, you can tell, a local landmark amongst folks who live around the area. People came in on a Sunday morning to sit on the counter and have breakfast. It had a "small town diner" type of feeling, with the employees even saying to a customer, "the usual?" We ordered the Belgian waffle and the chicken wings with eggs. (I totally forgot to take pictures since I was so excited to dig in). The chicken wings were crispy and reminded me of how my grandma used to make them. The scrambled eggs were soft and tasty. The food felt like homemade soul food and there was something nostalgic about it. They take cards, parking is super easy on the back of Crenshaw Square. They do not allow pets unless they're an ESA. I know of this place nearby but never really went until know. Parking is ample in front and back. The restaurant is small but I went on Saturday at 11:45am and there were plenty of seats. Loco moco: I ordered a loco moco for $15. I think the price was very affordable. 5/5 Denver omlette: The omelette was also $15 with rice. 5/5. The 2 strips of bacon and orange juice were $5-6 each and I think that is expensive. Service was quick. And I have nothing to complain about. There is a $1 charge if paid with debit or credit though. What a wonderful little diner my girlfriend found here on Crenshaw for breakfast! Lilly was our waitress and she was fantastic. The place was full and she handled every table with a smile on her face and a great attitude. Everyone seemed to be taken care of and happy for the most part. I saw the lady next to us yell at her and she came over to us with a smile on her face like nothing happened. They don't make 'em like that anymore! I had the Loco Moco and must say that this is a nice piece of culinary genius! This place is a fusion of Hawaiian, Asian and American and this dish was just the right mix. Sometimes you just need a greasy beef patty done to diner perfection but here they served it over rice, with an egg served over easy on top and all that was topped with delicious gravy and grilled onions that gave it the perfect amount of zip! It was so delicious. My girlfriend got the same thing but instead of a beef patty, she substituted for spam (a Hawaiian delicacy) and it was fantastic as well. On a side note, extra butter is 35 cents and extra syrup is 50 cents. It also says cash only but they accept credit for a buck extra. My partner and I stumbled upon this place by a happy accident. We live locally in the area and have been on a mission to support as many local businesses as possible. They open EARLY! We called at 6:30am to ask questions about their menu and they were already up and running. This is a small diner type of place. Just the kind of atmosphere we were looking for. The server was a GEM. She immediately recognized we hadn't been there before. She went over the menu, asked us questions and gave us a brief history of the place. It showed that she really cared about her job and giving us the best experience. Pancakes were fluffy and delicious. Bacon was just the way I like it, CRISPY! The coffee was actually excellent for a diner. The price point? Cant beat prices like that. We had a ton of food leftover so I took the rest home with me for lunch.
