Make way, there's a new Vietnamese sandwich shop on Bellaire in Saigon Plaza. I was thankful to have been invited to Mai's soft opening. I had a chance to meet the owner, Truong, who says what separates his shop from the competition is that everything on the menu has a special place in his heart. Their menu includes sandwiches served with pate and proteins like shredded chicken, pork belly, grilled pork, and Mai's special ham. The sandwiches are topped with cilantro, pickled veggies, cucumbers, jalapeños. Go ahead and add a fried egg on top too if you just got paid or feeling fancy AF. What I love the most about this place is that all the meats and their fresh egg-cracked mayo is made in-house from scratch using the owner's mother family recipes. What's also cool is they have a meat plate on their menu, which is basically DIY bánh mì. This way you'll get to individually sample each cold cut meat (jambon, pork belly, Vietnamese ham, and pate) they have to offer. The best bò né in all of Houston. Everything is perfect. The most tender and flavorful beef, egg, xiu mai, bread, bo (Vietnamese mayo), and pâté with a dash of Maggi soy sauce and sriracha all stacked together for the most perfect bite. Their bo (Vietnamese mayo) is probably the best bo I've ever tasted. I could eat that with bread all day (they actually sell their bo and pâté by the containers too). We got the bo ne - sizzling Viet steak and eggs platter with xiu mai, came alongside a salad, mayo/pate, and baguette. I had zero complaints here. Steak was a filet mignon cut, super soft and tender, onions and peppers soft, egg good, the baguette was soft. I'm picky about my French bread - not a fan of crunchy outside and this one was fluffy outside and inside. The pate and mayo were buttery smooth and not super salty. Paired super well together. I actually didn't touch the salad - was too full. I got the iced mint Viet coffee which was delicious and refreshing. Both the ladies who were working when I came were super nice and polite. The service was okay, we got our food pretty quick considering how many people were in the restaurant. The filet was tender and full of flavor. Good portion size. The bread was a little too soft for me, maybe they rushed it out and didn't get the chance to fully toast it? I'm not sure, but their butter and pate was so good, so the soft bread didn't matter. It's more like chicken paste (giò gà) mixed with carrot & pea, so wrong!!! The corn milk is basically boiled corn water with milk, very watery and plain, no corn meal texture. The meat was plump. The flavor of the steak and the salad were a little lacking. The plate is super hot and will overcook the eggs if you let it sit and cool down. The bread was one of the best parts of the meal. The jalapeños were not too spicy. The Bahn mi was okay. The fried pork floss does taste fresh. I don't love pork floss, but I do recommend it if you want to try "fresh" dried pork floss. It has a very meaty texture. We visited a little after the dining rooms reopened. The table cleaning training could be improved upon as I requested the table to be cleaned when she arrived with food because there were several soy sauce stains. I love Banh Mi. I probably eat Banh Mi for lunch during the weekdays more than anything else regularly. I have to say, this place is definitely going into my rotation list. I have had them on both the baguette and the croissant, and both were really good. They are not shiesty with the meat portions, regardless of what you order. The veggies taste really fresh and has a nice crunch to it, as if they cut it right before serving. The star dish of the restaurant though has to be their Bo Ne. (Vietnamese Steak and Eggs on a sizzling hot cast iron plate). Not only do they give you generous portions of meat, they also give you some Xiu Mai (pork meatball), which I dont think I have ever seen on a Bo Ne plate anywhere in Houston. The flavors are really good and its probably my favorite Bo Ne in town. They have an interesting drink here that I haven't had anywhere else either. Its called sua bap, which is a corn milk. I like roasted corn, corn on the cob, and che bap (corn dessert) and this was good to me. It might not be for everyone though. One warning, you will stink of food when you leave. If you come for lunch, it will permeate your clothes for the next few hours so keep that in mind. You cant really take the Bo Ne to go, but the sandwiches you can. Unless you are on the way home or eating the Bo Ne, I would just take the sandwiches to go. read more

Basically marinated beef flanks that's sizzled on a hot skillet and served with a sunny side egg, meatball, french baguette, pate & mayo, and a bowl of fresh salad. I've tried several bo ne places in Houston and this is definitely one of the best I've been to. The beef is so juicy, flavorful and tender. The bo ne and everything that comes included with it is priced around $11.50, which is not a bad deal at all for all the food you get. Besides bo ne, they also have banh mi here as well. I always come here for their BoNe which is definitely worth after a major night out prior. The place does get really busy but even being short staff, they're able to manage the crowd well. Been here a few times and I've been coming here more and more lately! I really like their shredded chicken here as I don't eat pork. It's very flavorful than some other places I'm use to going to. Service is always good and friendly. Today I requested they can make me a bo luc lac bhan mi, and said of couse, we can make a bo ne one of you would like.
