The Scarlet Vetter says.....while in Queens New York City for business I decided to Uber Eats food rather than go out and about from my hotel. I was in the mood for Thai so I placed an order at this restaurant. I ordered chives pancakes, steamed vegetable dumplings, green chicken curry, and thin noodles with traditional Thai iced tea. The noodles were dreamy and the iced tea refreshing. The chive pancakes were perfectly cooked and fragrant. I had zero complaints about the rest of the order. I would have given this four 0stars but no utensils were included necessitating a trip down to the lobby of my hotel to locate some after I discovered the omission while unpacking the order in my room.

The server/ owner was very good to me! She was warm and friendly the food was so good. Did tell the owner the soup was salty. She did tell the cook. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is dark. If you add color it will give the appearance of the restaurant being larger.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I've been wanting to visit this place for a while. I'm so glad I finally came. I do wish they had a happy hour, I think it would attract more people because the food is amazing! The service is also very good, like most Thai restaurants. I also wish they had the Thai spices on the side to add to your dish. They still get 5 stars from me.

Delicious meal. Date night vibes. Great for the whole family. I believe the ambience says it all Dark, seductive, intimate. It's got tasty variety in all aspects, vegan, meat heavy, and noodlely. I love it!

We're regulars at Black Thai, whether for takeout or dining in. Last time, we enjoyed a lovely meal with my mama and husbancito. The Black Thai salad was fresh and vibrant, just the right balance of spicy and tangy. We also had the shrimp fried rice, which always hits the spot. And you can't go wrong with the red curry with chicken. Nor can I forget the chicken fried rice - it's comfort food with a kick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The cozy ambiance and attentive service adds to the experience, making it perfect for a family dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely a spot I keep coming back to!

I ordered from Black Thai on Thanksgiving, as my dinner plans fell through. I was happy to see that they were open on the holiday! The food was delivered in a reasonable timeframe, which I really appreciated. I ordered the Massaman curry with chicken and requested for it to be spicy. The spicy level was great, but the curry itself was a bit lackluster. It didn't have that creamy curry consistency that I usually enjoy. The drunken noodle was delicious and had just the right flavor. The portion was also pretty generous. I forgot to take a picture, but I also got the Thai iced tea, which was really refreshing and complemented the spicy curry. I think there is better Thai food out there, but if you're looking for some noodles, this is a great delivery option.

Ate here today before work for lunch by myself. I had brought and ate the crab rangoon and spicy fried rice with crispy pork. It was pretty good and delicious. The service there was also friendly, and attentive that I didn't feel rushed about what to choose something to try for the first time. I couldn't agree more. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

    Red Curry

For appetizers we had the chive pancakes which were good, the chicken curry puffs were also good although not very meaty, and the chicken lettuce wraps were tasty but a bit too salty and they only gave 3 decent size pieces of lettuce, the rest were the inner pieces which is just too tiny. For dinner we had the crispy pork with drunken noodles, noodles a tad too sweet but good overall, my husband enjoyed his duck noodle soup, and red curry with chicken was average. Not my favorite, as it's something we get at every Thai restaurant. It wasn't bad just lacked depth and flavor, and wish it had wide bamboo shoots instead of matchstick. Thai iced tea was also good. Overall a decent meal, service was good, our waitress was friendly. I wouldn't make a special trip, parking was awful, but if in the area I would potentially return.

Great Thai food and decor. I enjoyed my pad see eww and a thai iced tea. The Thai iced tea is on the sweeter side but full of tea flavor.

The soup comes with the lunch special. It is vegetable broth but too salty for me, I had to add some water to dilute it.

Always one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the neighborhood, though sometimes their food is a little bit too salty, but overall the food is really good! However, the service needs to be improved. I came on a Saturday. The waitress was very friendly and polite. I went again today (a Thursday), it was already a few weeks later, a different waitress in glasses was there but she was not friendly and she was rude. I went there alone both times, and it was not rush hour. On that Saturday, I chose to sit at a 4-seat table near the register. The friendly waitress didn't stop me because it was not busy and there were many empty tables. While today when I went, it was not busy as well (after 2:30PM), I again chose to sit at a 4-seat table. The waitress in glasses was not happy and she made sure I came alone and asked me to sit at a 2-seat table. If it is busy, sure I will sit at a less seat table. Why can't I choose where to sit? And I saw the way she served the other customers, she was rude and unprofessional! The people at the other table wanted to place another order to go, and she thought they wanted the check. So she got them the check instead. Then one of the ladies told her that they actually wanted to order a new dish to go. Those people are not fluent in English, and this waitress was blaming them for not making it clear enough and she was saying they were confusing her. I was like, "Seriously? What kind of service is that??" Honestly, she just hates her job. I hope the management can look into the matter. The food is undoubtedly incredible, but the quality of service depends on who is on duty.. if the management doesn't train their staff well, it's not going to make good business.

SO GOOD!!! Fresh ingredients used for their dishes. Cozy environment and excellent service. Family business owned as far as I can see...the food is really good and the prices are reasonable.

    Is there parking?

Only street parking. Might depend on the time of day, but the weekends are really tough. You might be spending anywhere from 15-30 mins looking for a space. Weeknights are a little (very little) better.

Can you bring your own beverage?

No, they have wine & beer.

The food was delicious, and is something that we'd all order again. My favorite part of the evening was the tv playing a Thai cooking show. There were no captions or subtitles so I kept asking the server what veggies were on screen, and they too didn't know because there was no caption. Had the $30 Branzino (didn't realize that it's fried. And that we had a choice between sweet chili sauce, mango salad, cashew cream sauce). The waitress didn't ask which one we wanted. Also had the $18 Crispy Watercress Kung Fu Salad. We were thinking of a duck dish (& I didn't see the Khao Soi - one either softshell crab that I've seen previously), but the couple next to us who's been there twice within the past 2 weeks recommended these two dishes. The salad was lightly battered vegetable, they used Water Spinach instead (big tuber fritters stuck together). The bowl of Seafood Salad (shrimp & calamari, kind of Thai ceviche-style) was OK but didn't have nuances in flavor (spicy sour sweet). The Liquid was deep at the bottom and it was hard spooning things on top of the vegetable. The presentation of the fish was gorgeous - came out on a fish-shaped platter on top of an little flame. The server poured the sauce over the fish and everything bubbled. There was cauliflower and string beans underneath the fish. Didn't realize that it was fried instead of broiled or grilled. We didn't know what sauce we were getting and at first I thought it was tiny bit sour, as I continued eating, it became like a one-note tamarind. Same - there wasn't any sweet sour spicy fishy. We asked for medium-spice when we ordered. It's a little awkard deboning and serving a fried crispy fish on top of a metal platter at a 2-seat table, but my Auntie-skills kicked in and it's no problem for me since I'm familiar with where the bones are. Friend ordered a Thai Coffee also (it might only come iced). The restaurant is beautiful and has a sleek but tropical Asian decor & about 75% full even up to closing. Has a cute outdoor seating area too - a very different vacation feel on a block of Woodside/Elmhurst Queens. Later I come to find out my Queens - born Thai friend said he stopped going to this restaurant after it's renovation and adding sushi to the menu. The ownership changed and he doesn't think it's Thai-owned anymore. Either way, I kind of wish the food met up to the standards of this "Little Thailand" area of NYC. Maybe I'll try them again if they have lunch specials. A couple was sharing a giant beer glass of Thai Tea.

The steak was the only dish that showed any sign of life. Everything else tasted as if it had been rinsed with water before being served--completely stripped of seasoning, aroma, and any trace of authentic Thai flavor. It's astonishing that a restaurant with such a strong reputation could produce food that's less flavorful than the faux Thai takeout spots tucked inside Chinese restaurants off the Ohio Turnpike. That's not an exaggeration. What's even more baffling is the location. In the heart of Queens, surrounded by Thai restaurants serving bold, vibrant, unapologetically flavorful food, Zaab Zaab somehow manages to be a culinary desert. The fried rice was bland, the drunken noodles were lifeless, and the pad kra pao lacked the punch, basil, heat, and savoriness that define the dish. It honestly felt as though the menu had been engineered for diners who think black pepper is adventurous. Instead of authentic Thai flavors, everything seemed toned down to the point of being unrecognizable. For a restaurant with this reputation, the meal was a massive letdown. There are countless nearby Thai restaurants that deliver the bold, aromatic flavors Thailand is known for. Save your money and your appetite for one of them.
