So I went to Eat Street to get lunch and Chinese groceries, and discovered that my go-tp Vietnamese dive, Pho Tau Bay, is closed until fall due to construction. Well thinking I would go to Pho Hua instead, I pulled intonthe Shuang Hur Grocer's parking lot thinking I'd grab a few things before heading north on Eat Street. Then I saw signs on the Shuang Hur building for a (new to me) Vietnamese joint in the same building. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! My Huong is an 8-top hole in the wall across the parking lot from the rear of El Nuevo Mariachi Restaurant. The place is homely, small, but brightly lit and plenty of day light through the picture windows overlooking Eat Street. It's a big contrast to Pho 79 type places that are dim and short on ambience. The clientele shows. Instead of just a bunch of Asians throwing down Pho, it's a mix like you'd see at Quang or Eat Street Crossing. I was seated right away, was greeted by a cheery Vietnamese lady, and ordered Hu Tieu Bo Khu (Beef Stew Noodle Soup.) It was a dish I haven't seen before even though I have been to so many Vietnamese places (see my other reviews and lists.) The dish came very quickly, and I was shocked that they didn't bring it with a veggie plate. Oh well. Well the best way I could describe Hu Tieu Bo Khu, its basically a pot roast over noodles. So the beefy broth like a less spicey version of Bun Bo Hue, with flavors of lemongrass and star anise, nicely garnished already with what would have been on a veggie plate. The broth was delicious, slightly sweet with the carrots, and the beef was fall apart amazingly stewed with deep flavor. There were other menu items like Curry Chicken pho and a Stewed chicken rice dish I'd have to return and try! read more

My Huong Kitchen is worth the trip to Eat Street in Minneapolis. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there was a short wait for a table. As soon as we got our food, I could see why! I had the lemongrass beef bahn mi and the bread was the star of the show. It had a light, buttery exterior that melted in your mouth as soon as you bit into it. The bread itself was light & airy and didn't overwhelm the filling. I could've used a little bit more pickle on the veggies in the sandwich but they were still fresh & crisp. Also got the egg rolls, which had lots of flavor but were a little on the cold side, like they had already been cooked before we ordered. The Vietnamese coffee was amazing!! One of the best ones I've had in Minneapolis. The owner, Tracy, is such a sweetheart! She came over to check on us while we were eating and made us feel so welcome She is doing great things to support the Minneapolis community right now so it's the least we can do to support her business in return! There is a parking lot to park in right outside of the restaurant, which makes the trip a bit easier. Highly recommend! read more

This place is an absolute gem. The owner Tracy is the sweetest person you will meet and she makes it a point to come by and talk to every single table. She really makes you feel at home and like family and that makes the experience here that much better. The food is also incredible, I had the chicken curry noodle soup and the broth was to die for and it was loaded with well cooked and seasoned chicken and fresh veggies and noodles. We also got the bahn mi sandwich and let me tell you, the baguette this came on was probably the best I've had, it was so crunchy on the outside and I wish I got another one. The owner here, Tracy I believe is her name, is absolutely INCREDIBLE - she came out and chatted with us multiple times, asking how we liked the food and about ourselves. She even gave my husband some plant starters to take home from her herb collection! It's clear she takes a lot of pride in growing a lot of her own produce and herbs, and you can taste the freshness in her food. The quality of food was amazing - her pho and vermicelli noodle salad can hang with the best of 'em on Eat Street. I loved the ambiance in here - bright and greenery, with the feeling that you were a welcomed guest in her home. First off, I love that they have their own lot. It's awesome that you don't have to deal with the street parking. The space is nice and cozy. It's well lit and super clean. Service was quick and they're super nice. I had the bun thit kho, egg rolls, and Durian Smoothie. Over all they were pretty decent. The smoothie is definitely the stand out. Absolutely fascinating Vietnamese cuisine! This is the first time I visit to try the chicken curry soup and it was amazing. In the past, I have had their bahn mi sandwich which is delicious too but this time I chose to try something different. This place doesn't disappoint. It was a cold winter evening and I wanted something warm and filling. The broth had lots of flavor, it was steamy, noodles were cooked to perfection, veggies were fresh and the combination of everything came together very well. I would most definitely get this again. Service is great, it is family owned and you can tell they care that you enjoy your food and take your time. It was almost closing time and I asked for our bill, the lady (owner) said don't rush, take your time I'll still be here. She even helped me pack up my soup to-go when I was done eating. Ambience is laid back and casual, I love that they keep their cultural decor up which enhances the experience when dining here. It definitely is on the more casual and low-key side, come here for a pleasant lunch and you won't be disappointed. For the price as well in the low single digits for some items, I thought it was good. I'm not expecting absolute peak Vietnamese food here but it does well considering many other restaurants charge more for being about the same. My first time I went to get broken rice and the 2nd time (forgot to take photos) I had a pickup order for beef noodles. Both are good, solid options and can't really go wrong with either.
