I shared this sandwich with 3 people.

We were in the neighborhood and decided to stop by for a bun mi sandwich. They have 2 different size bread, regular and large. I went with the large and it was huge once she put everything together. We ordered the cold cut and added grilled pork. One side of the bread has pate and the other side is the special mayo. The layout is just like subway, the person behind the counter will ask you if you want all the toppings or if you're picky just tell her. We also ordered the thai tea to drink with. Easy location, street parking with meters in the front otherwise they have a few spaces in the parking behind the store.

Delicious banh mi sandwiches, large is decently filling but still need some sides imo. Everything was great, the meats were flavorful (meatball was my favorite but grilled pork was also very good), the pate was delicious. Wish there were more pickled veggies/jalapenos, and the bread was a bit soft, but still a very very enjoyable banh mi. Also tried the garden rolls (good, but very little pork and shrimp), the peanut sauce was pretty good, and the banh cam was nice too.

Simply amazing!!! You're not going to find a better Vietnamese sandwich around. Lu's makes a top notch banh mi. When I come to Lu's I usually go with their pork sandwich, however any meat option is amazing. Also, don't forget to try their amazing egg rolls.

Lu's Sandwich is an unassuming fast casual restaurant, located at the heart of the Northeast neighborhood in Minneapolis that is definitely worth a visit. The actual restaurant is very straightforward with no frills. You order at the front on an iPad, and then sit down and wait for your food. Takeout is also extremely popular here so be prepared for a bit of a line, although they move really fast here. Food: You have to get a banh mi when you come here. For those unfamiliar, a banh mi is an extremely popular Vietnamese sandwich consisting of meat, Mayo, pate, some pickled vegetables, cilantro, and a few other things tossed onto a baguette. Lu's just nails this perfectly and for a very reasonable price. The baguette is incredibly fresh and fluffy on the inside while still being crusty on the outside. The sandwiches are HUGE and packed with so much flavor. I absolutely love these and around $7-9, it's hard to beat this in Minneapolis. Drinks: I am a huge fan of Thai tea so I have to get it every time I see it on the menu. Overall it was pretty good Thai tea, but is definitely outshined by the delicious banh mi. It is definitely on the above average side of Thai tea in the Twin Cities area, but definitely not a must get. Overall, I absolutely recommend Lu's and definitely you have to get a banh mi when you come.

Receipt showed I did not ask for no pate

I've been a customer for a long time and til this day they always miss something with my togo order. My most recent order, missing some veggies (not pictured) and no pate in all 3 of my cold cuts.

Finally got around to trying Lu's in Northeast, and it met the hype!! They offer banh mi sandwiches as well as bowls, and a few sides like egg rolls and Thai tea. It's a smaller menu, but they do it all well! The Thai tea with boba was great, and I would totally recommend as a drink if you want to treat yourself to something sweet! The sandwich was also tasty, and all of the vegetables inside were super crisp which I appreciated! The vegetables, in combination with the baguette, made it feel like the perfect light lunch. The sauces were also awesome, but my friend added avocado to her sandwich and I will absolutely be doing that in the future! It helped cut some of the spice from the jalapeños. I tried the chicken which was good, but I would also try something new to branch out in the future! They have free parking which is amazing in Northeast. We sat on the patio to enjoy our sandwiches, but the restaurant also smelled amazing if you ever get the chance to eat inside in a COVID-free future. All of the employees wore masks appropriately, but they also offer contactless pickup if you prefer!!

Great banh mi sandwiches. Stopped in here as the place across the street didn't have inside seating and I hadn't had a banh mi in a long time. Ordered the pork banh mi and a mango smoothie with the jellies. Sandwich had a great roll, crunchy vegetables and great flavor. I though they were a little heavy handed on the carrots, but I know from the ordering system I can get less on my next visit. The meat was nice and tender and had a very good flavor. The sandwich was more than I personally could handle so I used a fork to eat all of the fixings and 1/2 of the roll. The mango smoothie was very good, a very nice flavor and lasted me all the way home on the bus to north Minneapolis. Had the receipt emailed to me so I could look at the detail at home. They automatically add on a 9.00% Employee Retention Service Fee. The ordering system is a touch pad as you enter the store so you can customize the sandwich and your order as you see fit. If it's your visit take your time when placing your order. They have several locations in the Twin Cities and if I happen on one of them again I will definitely visit them.

The hostess was extremely unfriendly and seemed very unhappy. She played the game and greeted us, but never once made eye contact, said "welcome in", "thank you for coming in" or anything else that would make a customer feel like they were appreciated for coming in. From the time we walked in to the time she showed us to our table, I said "thank you so much" three times and not once was even acknowledged or replied back with a "you're welcome". She should really find something else to do if she's not going to be a "host". Serving people should be the greatest pleasure we have when engaging with those we don't know. Patrick on the other hand was truly awesome. Friendly, smiling, engaged in conversation prior to taking our order and just seemed happy to talk to us. We told him we were from Nevada and were only there because of a recommendation from a couple in an elevator! He thought that was just awesome. Food arrived and everything was really good. The hash browns were WAY overcooked, almost burnt, but that was the only negative thing to say about the food. It was otherwise delicious! I would strongly suggest this place for breakfast. The menu is really good, with a decent variety of good options to choose from. Cost wasn't bad, but not a deal either. If I was part of the management team, I'd have a serious conversation with the young lady who was hosting today (8/12/26. Wood + Paddle is located inside of the Royal, it's their hotel restaurant. On my first night in Minneapolis, I'd arrived to the hotel for check-in around dinner time. It was a Sunday night, so I think she wanted to reserve tables for parties of two or more. I was fine with it, but I noticed there were quite a few empty tables. A few days later, I had lunch with a colleague here. We got seated at a table, and the service was really good. Our waiter was attentive and made sure we kept our lunch within our time requirements so we could get back to the conference without issue. The food was really good. The interior has that classic vintage pub feel with lots of character and natural light. There are tons of booths and different seating areas that could accommodate parties of all sizes. I especially liked the glass dividers between some of the booths, which give you a little extra privacy without making the space feel closed off. My booth also had coat hooks and easy access to outlets, which I appreciated. I could definitely see myself coming here for a working lunch. My server was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially as I was trying to figure out how to use a couple of rewards I had on my account. I specifically came in wanting to try the fish and chips. Their lunch menu offers smaller portions of several dishes from the dinner menu, including a fish and chips option for around $15. I really wanted to try the walleye, though, so I ended up ordering the full dinner portion for around $28. The fish was absolutely the star of the plate. The breading was fantastic--crunchy around the edges while still light and fluffy--and the fish inside practically melted in my mouth. The tartar sauce was also really good and paired perfectly with it. The sides, unfortunately, didn't impress me nearly as much. There were plenty of fries, but they were pretty average, and the coleslaw was mostly cabbage with a light dressing. It felt like it was missing some acidity or lime to give it a little more personality. For almost $30, I also expected the meal to be a bit more substantial. I left satisfied, but found myself hungry again a couple of hours later, so I'm not sure the dinner portion felt worth the price for me. If you're mainly curious about their fish and chips, I'd probably recommend trying the smaller lunch portion first rather than committing to the more expensive dinner version. Would I come back? Absolutely--the atmosphere, service, and location alone make The Local worth another visit, and I noticed several other dishes on the menu I'd be interested in trying. I just don't know that I'd order this particular meal again. The fish itself was excellent, but for me, the sides and overall value didn't quite match it.
