The restaurant is nicely decorated but the bar area is small. The staff was welcoming but our server seemed a bit absent minded. She wrote our order on her notepad but she would often return to the table asking clarifying questions or forgetting to bring water or utensils. We ordered the ribs and shrimp with macaroni and cheese and greens. Overall the food wasn't terribly bad or awesomely good. It was okay, nothing really stood out.
It's been roughly 2 years since we've heard anything from My Mama's Kitchen. They closed their Shore Dr location in order to move to a bigger venue on Little Creek Rd. I'm sure many figured they'd be up and running again in a few months, but this move took much longer as they opted to remodel and rebuild their new location on their own. Well, My Mama's Kitchen finally opened the doors to their new location just before Mother's Day. I told my mom about them, so we tried them out on the afternoon of 5/20/26. Located across the street from Wedgewood Plaza (i.e. The Banque is in Wedgewood Plaza), off the bat there is much more available parking. And once we walked inside, you can witness how spacious Kitchen is compared to their old location. The venue looked good and you can tell plenty of work was put in towards remodeling. We waited a little bit to be seated - there wasn't a host there to initially greet us. An employee came out, saw us and proceeded to seat us, although it was a little weird she handed us their menu before we got to the table. I was a little confused because she asked us if we were dining in. Right after we replied, "Yes," she continued to give us the menu, then casually motioned for us to follow her to the dining area. We were sat and immediately greeted by a server who kinda helped guide us to our table. Our server was quiet, but nice, and there were stretches where she was absent. She was pretty good about refills and was all smiles during our visit. The absences were interesting, but there was another employee who helped us during the gaps. I talked to her as we were leaving and she told me she came over from The Stockpot. She mentioned she helped curate the menu and, at the time we were originally seated, she was bartending. She was clearly a FOH manager of sorts - on top of things and super nice. I'd return simply based on our interaction with her. Pivoting to the food - Kitchen's food was just as good as I remembered. Mom and I split an order of wings (as an appetizer), which we proceeded to devour. I originally ordered a Cajun pasta dish, but was later informed it wasn't available, so I ordered Mama's Cheesesteak to replace it. Our food didn't take long to arrive at our table, and all of our items turned out great. Mom had the Meatloaf Dinner which she liked a lot. She mentioned to the FOH manager that she'd be back, which, considering my mom, is as good a glowing endorsement as one could receive from her. Along with my seal of approval, My Mama's Kitchen will work its way into our restaurant rotation. Mind you, our visit had some hiccups (the aforementioned absence gaps; the weird interaction just to get us seated; lack of awareness to provide necessary items, like silverware, napkins, et al.). But those are things that can be improved and fine-tuned given time and experience. Once they address some (imo) minor concerns, My Mama's Kitchen should thrive at their new location. Their food is still excellent, but as all 'new' establishments go, trial and error and coaching will help smooth everything out. Otherwise, I'm happy with our initial visit to their new location and look forward to many future visits. Thank you, My Mama's Kitchen! JV
Visited for brunch on Father's Day and arrived around 11:45 AM with no wait. One thing that could use some improvement is the check-in process. When you walk in, there's a desk immediately to the left, another larger one farther back, and a waiting area in between. Since there wasn't a host present, it wasn't immediately clear where we were supposed to go. Eventually, a little boy came out and led us to our table, which was honestly pretty adorable. The restaurant has a very cute aesthetic, and the seating was comfortable. There were a few cleanliness issues, though. Both of our chairs had crumbs in them, and there was also something on the salt shaker that probably should have been cleaned off. Neither issue was a dealbreaker for me, but it's the kind of thing that can leave a less-than-great first impression. For brunch, I ordered a Bellini, fried green tomatoes, and the New Orleans French Toast. The Bellini was fine, but the food was where this place really shined. The fried green tomatoes were delicious--clearly hand-cut and freshly fried, not those frozen, perfectly uniform slices you sometimes get elsewhere. The New Orleans French Toast may have been the best French toast I've ever had. Even without syrup, it was absolutely delicious. Our server, Heidi, seemed relatively new to serving, but she was friendly, checked on us appropriately, and made sure we had what we needed. The food also came out quickly, which was appreciated. I'll absolutely be back. I know this location recently opened, and they're probably still working through a few growing pains. But at the end of the day, I came for the food, and the food was excellent. That's what will bring me back.
Tried My Mama's Kitchen for brunch, and we were NOT disappointed! The restaurant is SO cute. I love the decor and colors chosen. It's cute for a date, a celebration, or just a day out with friends or family. While we were able to be seated immediately, it did take a little bit for our server to come to us. Heidi was our waitress, and she was nice. She did seem a bit flustered though. Not sure if maybe she is new. We had the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, and I had the blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes with eggs and bacon. The only other fried green tomatoes I've had were at Tupelo Honey, and while those are good, you can tell they're a frozen dish they just fry really quickly. These tasted homemade today, and the remoulade sauce they're served with is really good! The pancakes were excellent; they didn't even need syrup. I like that they use shell eggs and not those egg beaters. Everything came out quick and fresh! I have zero complaints about the food. I will definitely be back again for brunch and to try their dinner menu!
Stopped in shortly before 1800hrs for dinner tonight. There was a sign on the door stating that they would be closed at 1700hrs for 1 hour. At 1800hrs the door was still locked and I was informed that the doors would open in 15 minutes. At 1820hrs the door was still locked. Myself and the rest of the patrons were finally let in shortly thereafter. When we were finally seated and ready to order I was informed that they were out of my top two choices (ribs or brisket). They were also out of meatloaf and baked chicken. I settled on the cheesesteak. Not what I wanted but it was good. Actually, it was really good but not what I came in for. Almost forgot to mention that the sides came in paper throw away cups. Also noticed that two ladies ordered what looked like banana pudding and their desserts were also in a plastic cup. The best part of the visit was Lydia. She is the bartender and was also our server. Lydia was absolutely wonderful. We all noticed how she stayed constantly busy and had a continuous smile on her face. My Mamas Kitchen that young lady needs a raise. Lydia is hands down MMK's best asset. Don't know if you will see this Lydia but you are the main reason we will be giving MMK another try. All in all I might try them one more time. It was disappointing to not be able to order either of the two dishes I wanted but the staff was very kind.
I've been to this location twice. Both times were a bit iffy. The space is beautiful. One side is more of a waiting/lounge area, and the other is for dining. I like how in the dining area, they put covers over the overhead lights so it isn't super bright. AND THE DRINKS ARE SOOOOOOO GOOD. First time we went, we overheard the waitress say she didn't want to serve us, she was exhausted. Rightfully so, she was the only server. We held nothing against the server, we were peeved with the owner. The woman with the light hair. Took what felt like forever to even get drinks. They were also out of a lot of food... which isn't necessarily a bad thing... but the items I wanted were no longer available so I just ordered the fried green tomatoes. They were fine, they just needed more sauce and a bit more seasoning in the breading! The poor server was just miserable while we were there, and the owner was just kinda walking around telling everyone what needed to be done, not quite helping, more so micro managing. We ended up tipping the poor girl $35. I hope she got to keep it all. Fast forward to this week. We tried it out again. It was a bit warm. We had been Instructed that they had family visiting and if it got too loud to let her know. The noise wasn't the issue at all. When we sat down we saw that it was 76° inside! We wanted to eat though, so we tried to tough it out. There was only one waiter and then another girl helping him serve the food. Again, and I don't know how it happened again, the boy had said to the lady he didn't want to serve us, there was too much going on. She had told him he was going to serve us, strike 1. We ordered all of our food at once to make the poor kid's life a bit easier. We didn't get drinks until about 20 minutes after sitting down. (The pineapple drink bangs btw). And we were literally sitting there DRIPPING sweat. Even the owner had beads of sweat alllll over her face. We ended up asking for our order to go. And my husband ordered his sandwich without Cole slaw. We said that literally a COUPLE of minutes after we ordered. The food magically appeared, and they had US package it all up. And my husband couldn't even tell the owner that he asked for no Cole slaw, but she kept talking over him. And she ended up being the "polite" kind of rude after we asked for our food to go. We weren't angry, we were just hot. But looking back on the bigger picture, it definitely angry. Especially for the young people they have serving. The poor server was so stressed so again, I do not blame the servers. We tipped that bot $25 and again, I hope he gets it ALL. I 100% put the blame on the owners. This place should be a food truck... not a restaurant. The bad reviews didn't make sense to me.... Until they did.
The food was plenty and very tasty. I had the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, Red Beans and Rice with Abdullah Sausage and a refreshing glass of water with a slice of lemon. The Service was unique in its own way for the servers were very friendly and very attentive. The ambience of "My Mama's Kitchen" surprised me when I walked into the building. It's very beautiful, the furniture, the wall coverings and the bar are all very unique.
New gorgeous digs, same great MMK flavor. $17 Drip sandwich remains among my favorite hot chicken sandwiches in the world. Good food is worth the wait, so call ahead an order in advance if you're pressed for time. Plenty of comfy, contemporary space to relax and wait now, not to mention dine-in area and full service bar. Welcome back MMK, we missed you.
Our first time trying their food using the "Too Good To Go" app. The restaurant popped up. I said to myself, "Self, we need to try this place since Charmayne talked about how good the food is." And of course myself clicked to reserve 2 meals. Inside it's a comfortable and causal setting. The lady at the desk was friendly. Patiently waiting and hoping we get the really good stuff that is popular. I can smell the cooking happening. The food comes out, and we were pleasantly surprised it was shrimp! They gave us, shrimp, cooked cabbage, Mac n cheese, homemade mashed potatoes. Two meals with 2 sides each. Very well seasoned for everything. Savory! We recommend My Mama's kitchen for sure! Especially I watched their story on 13Newsnow, I said we definitely have a match for good food! We picked up our dinner and enjoying it at home. We will be back! A+
I was a regular at the previous location and this new location is immaculate. The food was exceptionally delicious just like I remembered. Those Jerk wings and fried catfish were my two favorites. Service was also spectacular as well and I'll definitely be back.

Everything I've ever had from My Mama's Kitchen is nothing short of mind blowingly good, but today I'm here to tell you about their classic Buffalo wings. I don't even care about Buffalo wings. I'll eat boneless wings, or occasionally a bone in, but those typically seem like too much work and too much mess for what they are. But THESE WINGS?! My husband ordered some and said he would share a few. I ordered the cheesesteak fries and told him I didn't want any because I had a mountain of fresh cut fries topped with cheesesteak and why would I care about a chicken wing with those in front of me? I was wrong. The classic Buffalo wings looked intriguing... they were not doused in sauce. They had a great color and looked a little crispy. Intriguing enough for me to try. THE FLAVOR. OH MY GOD THE FLAVOR. A little different than what I was expecting but so much more depth than the classic drenched in sauce buffalo wing. They were so meaty, perfectly crisp on the outside. These wings didn't even need to be dipped in anything. I am not lying when I say I've been thinking about them a couple times a week ever since. You need them. We all need them. Anyways. They're doing online ordering through their website now, which is super wonderful!!! We had about a 30 minute wait until pickup during non peak hours, for those wondering. They have a great Covid-times system with a pickup window, and also have a nice little patio open now. We took ours to go and popped over to enjoy the patio at CoVa Brewing. And like I said before, I don't think you can make a bad choice with anything you order here. read more
5 STAR for sure. It is a unique location. Totally love the service. They are so nice. We were going to order and eat in our car but they have an outdoor seating area. Let's talk about the food. A M A Z I N G and plenty of it. The Mama's Kickin' crab cake sandwich is like nothing I have ever had. BIG thick meaty crab cake with plenty of flavor. Then they surprise you with plenty of tasty shrimp layered with fresh veggies and a kickin' sauce between a perfect bun. If you don't get this sandwich your stupid. Once in your life be smart and order this and ENJOY EVERY BITE. I could go on about the rest of the food but its all good. So today I will end with some pictures. read more
My Mama's kitchen had been on our list for the past 2 years, and we regret not trying it sooner. 2 years of missing out on Hampton Roads' best southern food with a Cajun/creole flair! Tucked away in an unassuming nook near East Beach, you're instantly greeted by the most insanely delicious aroma of soul food-meets-bbq. It's a casual and welcoming environment (order at the counter) but we took out that night. Their menu is extensive and while they're known for their wings, we were in the mood for fried fish and got their catfish platter. The portions are HUGE and each platter could easily be 2 meals. Everything was fresh - the catfish crispy, meaty, and perfectly spiced, while the fries were homemade (highly recommend dipping them in the remoulade served with the fish). The collards were studded with bacon, so of course they were good. We'll 100% be back! read more
Yes. It was my first time coming to My Momma's Kitchen! My sister and I both got the fried catfish po'boy. it was surprisingly well seasoned I can definitely appreciate that. The last place I had fried fish from it tasted like something they would serve in a nursing home . Just fyi I can say that with no shade being thrown, because I use to work in a nursing home and they had many complaints. But back to the topic of My Momma's Kitchen the fries were really good to well seasoned but not salty. I don't remember what kind of burger my sis had gotten that day but it definitely looked like they laid goodness all through that burger. Last but not least the workers are very nice seem laid back real cool people. The waitress/ cashier was sweet very nice. Even though she was busy she still kept conversation until we got our food to go. Can't wait to try out other menu items The lady that was already in the restaurant had a order of wings and I think that's the next thing to try. They looked crispy and delicious. read more

So for my birthday my wife said she'd take me to lunch anywhere in Hampton Roads. I saw several restaurants but I happened upon My Mama's Kitchen, so we set off from the peninsula. The restaurant sits in a neighborhood off the beaten path, and most of the parking spots were occupied when we arrived. We saw a pretty healthy traffic of people waiting to order take out. Although the eat in area was small, we decided to dine in. My wife ordered house special sandwich called 'the Drip,' with a side of fries. I ordered the catfish dinner with collard greens and macaroni and cheese. The meals were delivered to our table with two large catfish filets lightly fried in seasoned meal and both of the sides were excellent. The macaroni and cheese was delicious and the collard greens were clean, tender with a delicate sweetness without tasting overly sugary. We were also offered some cornbread that was sweetened, buttery and golden which we devoured and should not be forgotten.The drip sandwich was delicious featured a chicken breast basted a sauce that had sweet heat that will make any chicken sandwich lover place the drip at the top of their list. The fries were as advertised fresh cut, slightly salty and crunchy. I get now why this place has so many stars and so many people ordering their food. I plan to join them and go back soon. read more

Stopped by at 1130am Saturday. Parking lot only has a few spaces and there were only 2 spots open when we got there. Went inside and I knew items I wanted to try from exploring Yelp/IG. After we ordered, we sat and waited for a bit which we didn't mind at all. At least 8-10 people came in right after us. I ordered the 5 word wings, garlic parm wings, shrimp dinner to go (with fries), and The Drip for me. The Drip was so delicious! Not too spicy. Chicken was huge and outside of the bun (no complaints here!). The wings were nice and crispy. I LOVED the 5 word wings. The fries that came with The Drip were delicious. Unfortunately, the fries and mac and cheese that came with the shrimp dinner were not so good. The fries needed to be cooked longer and the mac and cheese just didn't hit like everything else. Overall I will definitely be back. I would give 4.5 stars if I could. I loved everything except the second fries (no pic since they came later and I was hungry) and mac and cheese. Would love to try stuff from the smoker. It was down since they had no power the night before from the storm. read more
I've been to My Mama's Kitchen a couple of times a few years ago and really enjoyed their Chicken & Waffles. What put them back on my radar is when they introduced their "Drip" Chicken Sandwich onto their menu during the height of the "Popeyes Vs. Chich-Fil-A" chicken sandwich craze. I will tell you that they undoubtedly have the best chicken sandwich in Hampton Roads hands down. Whew, Chile! The way that perfectly fried slab of meat sits on top of that soft bun with the fresh Asian slaw and "drip sauce" will have you sitting RIGHT every time, do you hear me!? I'm also a fan of their thick-cut fries and chicken wings. Just Marvelous! I suggest calling in your order before coming because everything is made to order. But take my word for it Moe and the rest of the staff here really know what they're doing, and they have really been coming through clutch during this pandemic time. read more

Passing through Norfolk on the way home from a vacation, we found My Mama's Kitchen online and decided to check it out. We drove right past it at first, but so glad we circled back. We were excited for the brisket, which was sold out by lunch time, so instead our group tried the drip chicken sandwich, mango habanero wings, honey bbq wings, and a pulled pork sandwich. For sides we had cucumber salad, baked beans, cornbread and mac and cheese. Everything was delicious! Very generous portions. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. It's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

This is my new spot for really good food! The Surf and Turf Cheesesteak was seasoned to perfection with medium size grilled shrimp on top. YES shrimp, on top. I know you had to think about that for a minute. Get this sandwich and some wings too! The wings were fresh, seasoned and DELICIOUS! It tasted like a little smoke on them, but all I know is it was so tasty! You can't go wrong with these. The house, hand cut fries were the best! Seasoned, hot and made to order. They have an outdoor and indoor eating area. Staff are welcoming and friendly. I plan to go back this week. At this point, I just want to sit down and relax after this good meal. Highly recommended! I hesitate to write this review, as it's already a challenge to find parking and a spot at this treasured little neighborhood spot. However, their wings deserve to be shared. They are quite simply the best chicken wings I've ever had. They are fried to crispy perfection and aggressively seasoned to a sublime level. The my mommas wings are great and need no additional sauce. However, they offer a variety of creative and tasty sauces that enhance their wonderful wings. I particularly enjoy the buffalo soldier sauce, which is a fusion of jerk and traditional buffalo wing sauce. Put it in the GPS if you don't kow the neighborhood, it's on a little cut through street that cuts the corner from Ocean View Ave to Little Creek. It is very worth finding, just call ahead or be prepared to wait in line, as the word is out on this locally-owned deliciousness! read more

Highly recommend. Got the old bay, the drip, and 5 word for choices of wing flavors. The 5 word was amazing mix of lemon pepper, teriyaki, and garlic. Each wing of the 5 word kind of gives you a different flavor but keeps you coming back from more (definitely my favorite). For sides we did the fries and cornbread -- both amazing. Fries were perfect and cornbread also great, kinda like cake but not too sweet. Lastly, got the salted caramel banana pudding because why not. Loved it, definitely a place to go out of the way for!! Service was also outstanding. Everyone was so friendly and really a business that cares! read more

EAT HERE NOW. Rare & special gem! It's one thing to have terrific food - it's quite another to have terrific food and terrific people operating a small, family-owned business. The folks who run this gem are so sweet and really took their time to tell us newbies what was good (PS: EVERYTHING). The fries are low-key magic! Get that Remi sauce. Also magic. The Drip? Criminally good: a knock out, messy, ten napkin wonder. I got one crab cake as a side to try. I did not share this with anyone because it was gone too fast. The wings were beyond fresh and that magic crispy/juicy combo that defies logic. We loved every last bite of the food and the owners and staff couldn't be sweeter. *THIS* is the kind of business that deserves all the love and customers it gets. 10 STARS. RECOMMEND! read more

Stopped by today omw in from the DMV. I decided to get the Seafood Lovers meal and an order of "The Drip" flavored wings with the Salted Caramel Banana Pudding for dessert. Service was very friendly and prompt. It is a small establishment, but the inside is nice and quaint and inviting. I decided to eat in since I had been on the road for a few hours, and I am so glad that I got to experience my food while still hot. The seafood was fresh and seasoned just right. Im not sure what kind of dipping sauce came with it, but it was addictive! I'm so mad that I forgot to get more to go! The portions were huge for such a minimal cost! The sauce on the wings was tasty and not too spicy at all. My catfish filet was huge, but oh so delicious! The shrimp was great, and the crab cake was cooked perfectly! However, that Salted Caramel Banana Pudding w/the Chessman cookies was ao amazing that I ordered another one to go. So glad that I didn't pass up on this spot and will definitely visit again the next time that I'm in the area! Parking is minimal, and I arrived around lunchtime but had no issues with finding a park. There is outside seating as well. If you are ever in the area and want to support locally, definitely check My Mama's Kitchen out! You won't be disappointed! read more

We just landed at Norfolk this afternoon and wanted somewhere close by for lunch. We ordered 1 beef brisket dinner which came with 1 side and coleslaw. The beef brisket was moist but quite underwhelming. There is a distinct taste that we are just not used to. Also the presentation of the beef brisket wrapped in aluminum foil was not an attractive presentation at all. Now onto some good news, For the side, we got collard green which was amazing and they let us to opt out of coleslaw which we got Mac n cheese. My son got the beef Philly cheesesteak which came with fries. Although the fries could be more crisper, the sandwich was hearty. The star actually has to be the wings as we got 12 wings old bay seasoning style which is kinda like a dry rub taste. All in all, we enjoyed some of the food but had high hopes for the brisket. Based on today's visit, we will give it 3 strong stars. There are few spot parking on site for free. Lastly, the staffs there are super friendly. read more
My Mama's Kitchen is by far the most delicious lunch I have had in ages. I catered a lunch for my office && everything was delicious. It's easy to order && they have it ready to go at the pickup time. Everyone loved the food && we are looking forward to ordering again. Fan favorites were the wings, the drip && of course the Po'Boy. Also the sides- fire! We had potato salad, Mac and cheese && that cornbread. Delicious! I highly recommend you check it out if you haven't already. Great food, great service && a great team! I knewwwww I was going to end up leaving a review. Once I smelled it I just knew it lol. It's laundry day for me and I just wanted a fish sub. I had been to 4 different establishments before finding this place on Google maps. When I saw the name My Mama's Kitchen I had a feeling it would be good lol. I got the fish po boy and I was not disappointed!! I included a photo of my tray after I had already started eating the fries but every bite was incredible. I loved it and I can't wait to come back for more in the future. read more

Little hole in the wall just off Shore Drive. It is a walk up counter with a small patio and a few tables inside too. The hamburger is huge with two patties and gouda cheese and we spied housemate pickles on there too! The special was the surf and turf cheesesteak - a traditional cheesesteak with the addition of grilled shrimp and remoulade - a great combination! Everything is prepared fresh so it takes a few extra minutes but the folks who work there are a pleasure to chat with while you are waiting. A great lunch spot for certain and you will never leave hungry. read more

The restaurant is featured in a political commercial and looked like something I would like to try. When I called Friday, they were closed due to water inside the restaurant. The owner said he would be opened the next day; he was open and the phone rang. I ordered a philly cheese steak & fries, 6 garlic parmesan wings, 6 drip wings and an extra order of fries. Great price--all this for under $30. I love fries. So when they are fresh cut and seasoned, I am in love. Good sized portion--great move. The philly cheese steak was smaller than I normally get but the meat portion was more than I expected. The meat was seasoned well and the onions and peppers were mixed in and blended well. Nothing overly salted. 10 out of 10 is my vote. I rarely order wings from restaurants because they are normally unseasoned, covered in sweet sauce, small and fried way too hard. Not the case here. First, I tried the drip wings; the smokey, sweet taste was like a good barbeque sauce. The parmesan garlic wings were good-both flavors complimented the wings. Since nothing was over salted and seasoned nicely the taste of the wings came out. Will visit again for my Friday wing fest. Tips for new comers: 1, If driving down Shore drive, turn at the Sherman Williams--that is Caliente street. My Mama's kitchen is across the street. 2. Call in your order for the shortest wait 3. My Mama's Kitchen is the epitome of a homely hole-in-the-wall type of joint. Come here to get some delicious BBQ, hot dogs, corn bread, sweet potato pie, etc. When my wife asked the dude what was good to order, he replied "everything's good." When she asked what his favorite was, he said "everything's my favorite or else it wouldn't be on the menu." Basically, he was of no help and you're on your own for food decisions! Everything we ordered was pretty tasty. This is one of those places where you wish you could try every single thing because, like the guy said, everything is good (or at least sounds good on the menu). I recommend getting some yummy loaded wings. I like how this place is near the airport so if you're trying to kill some time going to or leaving the airport, this is a nice place to stop for lunch or dinner. read more

Shrimp Po Boy with Fries & Hot honey garlic lemon pepper wings. Food was amazing my friends had " The drip" and said it was AWESOME Not much parking so I parked across the street at Sherwin Williams. Overall great experience and I will definitely be back to try more items. read more

What a quaint little place me and the Mrs. Stopped by this lil gem of a eatery and what a pleasant surprise. The surf and turf Cheese steak was extraordinary the wings were amazing and the salad with grilled shrimp was to live for and eat another day.. I was introduced to this place within my first week of being here. Haven't stopped going since. Got the drip sandwich with fries. Definitely going back to try the rest of the menu. read more
