    French Onion Soup

Updating my previous review. The French Onion soup is now on the menu and delicious. The service was prompt and friendly. The food came out quickly. Even though the restaurant was not full mid-afternoon it was loud. But the soup was great!

Everything about this restaurant is incredible. The staff, the SERVICE, the food. The Chef creates amazing dishes and everything is from scratch. My favorite place!!

New River Taphouse is easily on my top 5 favorite spots in the area. Whether you're looking to grab a pizza to go, enjoy a meal on the outdoor patio or sit inside at the bar -- the service is always great. A friend and I came here for dinner when we both were unsure of what we were in the mood to eat, and they have such a variety of items it was the perfect pick. We came on a Wednesday, which just so happens to be wine Wednesday! So we grabbed a bottle of Pinot Nior ($18 for the half off deal). We started with some pickle chips (clearly too good for me to even grab a photo of. Oops). They were the perfect size and had just the right amount of batter. For our entrees, I ordered the blackened Mahi tacos with sweet potato fries, and my friend had the Cuban sandwich with regular fries. In the warmer months, I am a sucker for a good fish taco and this one did not disappoint! It had avocado, mango salsa, coleslaw and their boom boom sauce. 10/10. The sweet potato fries were super tasty, too. My friend loved his Cuban, and let me try it since I've never had one! I would definitely order it from here. The mix of pork and ham, with perfectly melted cheese ... mmmmm! We sat right by the window on a gloomy day. They have a cute bridge with seats on it outside, and there's a water fountain in the middle of the pond. Very cute. I'd love to come back and sit on the bridge next time!

Found this place randomly on Apple Maps. And we didn't want fast food. Something decently priced. Oh my oh my did my tastebuds explode of pure goodness. I third wheeled my girl friend & her boyfriend. Boy did we CRUSH our plates. It was a bit busy so the waitresses were scrambling but they did attend to us as much as they could. Soft lighting in there , loved it tbh, people couldn't see me crushing my food. Jk. There was no hiding that, I was def SEEN. #WillComeBack #ComeHereInsteadOfTheBeach #EatEatEat #GoodFoodOnly

We had a wonderful dinner here with a lovely ambiance. The menu offered an impressive range of choices. Each dish we tried was excellent, beautifully presented, and generously portioned without being overwhelming. The beverage selection was equally outstanding. The beer list featured a well-curated mix of familiar favorites and unique selections, and the cocktails served throughout the evening were beautifully crafted. Whether you're looking for something classic or something a bit more adventurous, there was plenty to choose from. Service was excellent as well: attentive, friendly, and perfectly timed throughout the evening. As soon as a dish was finished, she would be there to clear it, and drinks were replenished and refills offered with perfect timing. My only (very small) complaint would be the lighting. The wall sconces were positioned in a way that left bright spots in my eyes, making it a bit difficult to comfortably look across the table at my companion. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience, and we will definitely be back.

So let's just start off by acknowledging our waitress, she was very polite caring and was happily dealing with all my questions as this was my and other party of (6) time being here. The vibe is laid back not to loud not lo low good place to grab a bite to eat, date night vibe, and just have an excellent dinner and did I meant ion watch football!

    Oyster Rockefeller

We were instantly sat outside upon our request but it soon became cold so we asked to move inside. They instantly moved us. We ordered oyster Rockefeller as an appetizer off the specials menu (it's different everyday). These were the absolute best oysters Rockefeller I've ever experienced. I didn't have to add any sauce. It was to die for. I wish they had them on the regular menu. They were extremely busy but Natalie was always checking in on us. I had a bottle of moscato that I was able to take what was left home. I try to make this a weekly outing if I can. My only request is the manager keeps her cool a little better. We heard her scream at an employee in the restroom and the time before that she was freaking out about a water leak in the bar. Things happen in the restaurant world but it's best not to alarm your customers without frantically meaning to. Other than that we've always had a great experience at this location.

Went on a Wednesday night with my boyfriend. Sat outside on the patio. Food was quick and delicious! Plenty of options from pizza to power bowls. Our waitress was so friendly and accommodating. They were out of the first two desserts we tried to order tho which was sad so we settled on the cookies and it was tasty

The last time I set foot inside their Pleasure House Rd location was at least 10 years ago. I celebrated my birthday there as my friends were kind enough to take me out. It was a Sunday morning and I sought out a place that offered brunch. I noticed 1608 was open and decided to head over, especially since I haven't visited them in ages. When I walked in, I noticed their dining room is dimly lit - much darker than I remember. I was greeted immediately by a kind hostess and she proceeded to sit me at a nearby table and provided me with menus (one food, one alcohol). I took my time looking over the food menu, and in the meantime I ordered a pint of Center of the Universe's Bald Irishman and a bottle of Boylan's Black Cherry soda (they do not have a soda fountain). What made this visit memorable was that 1608's bartender, Hunter, was an old acquaintance from back in my restaurant days. He spotted me and came over to say hi. After my meal, I continued to catch up with him at the bar. His presence made a pleasant experience even more fantastic. I thought I was hungry, so I ordered 2 dishes - Smoked Ham Fried Rice and the Breakfast Burrito. According to Hunter, every item is made fresh in house. After biting into each, you could tell that's true. Both the fried rice and burrito were delicious and boasted lots of flavor. Although I prefer my fried rice a bit simpler (if you give me just garlic fried rice, I am SET), 1608's fried rice (veggies, garlic, soy, basmati rice, 2 runny eggs, smoked ham) had a lot going on, which made for a flavorful dish. I liked the rice and the burrito (Korean style fried chicken breast, scrambled eggs, cilantro lime, cheddar, pico de gallo) a lot. I didn't finish either because it was a lot of food (I really thought I was hungry, haha). But these leftovers turned into a fantastic dinner later on. 1608 looked clean and organized, although I thought it was a little too dark inside, at least for brunch service. That's not a dealbreaker since everything from the food to the service was as excellent as I remember. I hope to return soon with my mom. Regardless, I'll find my way back eventually. Thank you, 1608 Crafthouse! And great seeing you again, Hunter! JV

It happened to be Restaurant Week, which made us a little nervous, but it ended up being totally fine. The dining room never felt overly crowded, the noise level was comfortable, and having the Restaurant Week prix fixe, drink specials, and regular menu all available gave us plenty of options without feeling overwhelming. One small note: the plastic logo cups served with the water decanter felt a little out of place. They were a bit sharp on the lips and didn't quite match the rest of the dining experience. Minor detail, but noticeable. The drinks, however, were excellent. On our server's recommendation, my husband ordered the Gingerbread Old Fashioned and I had the Salted Caramel Martini. Both were seasonal specials and both were fantastic. When we asked about the scotch eggs, our server explained they're normally a brunch-only item. We were a little disappointed (and may have made a few pouty faces while explaining we'd come specifically for them for his birthday), but we quickly let it go, it obviously wasn't her fault. What we didn't realize was that she went back and told the kitchen manager that it was his birthday and that we'd made the trip just for those scotch eggs. Since the kitchen wasn't slammed, they decided to make them anyway and surprised us with an order. We were honestly floored. My husband was thrilled. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare. And the scotch eggs were exactly what he'd been hoping for! They were crispy on the outside with a rich, savory center. For entrées, his Nashville Hot Chicken was juicy with the perfect amount of heat without being overwhelming. My Haystack Burger was stacked and delicious, though the BBQ sauce was strong enough to overshadow the pickled green tomato a bit. The fries were fantastic - crispy, battered, and perfect from first bite to last. Our server checked in at all the right times and kept drinks refilled without us needing to ask. The fact that she went out of her way to do something special during one of the busiest weeks on a restaurant's calendar says a lot about both her and the restaurant. Rustic Spoon is the kind of place that works just as well for a casual date night as it does for a birthday dinner or a night out with friends.

Our first table ended up being under a spotlight that was directly in our line of sight (it looked like it was meant for the specials board), so we asked to move. Staff was accommodating and got us to a better table quickly. The space itself is really nice. It was clean, rustically decorated, and the live plants in liquor bottles on the tables are a nice touch. Our server was friendly from the start and took drink orders right away. My daughter and I had sodas, and my husband ordered the Southern Charm Old Fashioned off the specials menu, which he enjoyed. The menu is on the smaller side, which we actually like. One unique detail was the option to "buy a round for the kitchen," which we thought was a really nice touch and decided to add it when we ordered our appetizer. We started with the fried deviled eggs after a friend recommended them. They were creative with three styles (classic with pickle, togarashi ginger, and crispy prosciutto), but overall a bit on the dry side and not as flavorful as we expected. We asked for Dijon, but they don't have it. Our server suggested and brought out the Baja dipping sauce instead, which did pair well and kind of improved them. My husband had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. He said the fish was flaky and well cooked. I ordered the Union grilled cheese, which unfortunately seemed like it had been sitting a bit before being served, as the bottom was soggy. It was just okay overall and not particularly memorable for the price. The sweet potato fries on the side were the clear standout. They were crispy, the perfect balance of sweet and salty and honestly the best part of the dish. Our daughter had the kid's smashburger. It was exactly that. Service throughout the meal was good. She was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and there when needed. The main disappointment came at the end. When our meals were served, the server actually offered sauces at the table (ketchup, mayo, ranch, etc.), and specifically suggested items like the baja sauce for the eggs and ranch to us. Because of that, we were surprised to see several charges for the sauces on the bill, especially since they were offered and recommended at the table with no mention of any additional cost. We were also charged a credit card fee, with no signage anywhere (entrance, hostess stand, or menu) indicating that paying with a card would include an extra charge. It just left an unnecessary sour note on an otherwise solid, casual meal. Nothing was bad, and nothing really stood out as exceptional, but the lack of transparency around those final charges really impacted the overall experience for us.
