You have the option of indoor, outdoor, and bar seating in this place. We were sat by the kitchen so we got to see all the food orders coming out, and my goodness, this place doesn't skimp on portion sizes! My boyfriend ordered the chicken sandwich with tater tots. The sandwich was the size of his forearm (not even kidding) and there were enough tots for two. Yeah, he ended up taking leftovers home. I got a salad that I modified (per usual with most dishes I eat). One of my modifications was subbing salmon for my protein and I was surprised to see how large of a piece it was that sat grilled on top. Very delicious (after scraping off the grey bits underneath of course - who eats that part?). We were served our food in a reasonable amount of time, but it did take longer to get our check. In our waitresses defense, she said the patio was busy. They had a lot of yummy lunch and dinner items, so we'll be back to try more. Maybe even get a spot on the patio next time. read more

Drove a bit to get there and parking was a challenge at 530 but got the last seat at the bar and ordered a beer from a very helpful bartender. The Brussels sprout snack was amazing ! Not your mom's Brussel sprouts for sure !! I am not a burger guy but the person next to me had a sourdough parm burger that looked great so I had one as well. Very good but after the sprouts I could only eat half so my dog was very happy that I brought the rest home to him !! This place really shines when you get the opportunity to be outside. We could've chosen it so that's on us. Inside, they really shoe-horn everyone in there. It makes it a bit cumbersome for the staff and patrons to walk around when it's busy. Overall, though, they've kept the same feel and aura of the place. Solid beers some that are always on the menu and a few rotational. The staff were a bit sketch though. Some were very lack luster and you could tell didn't care. I hope they keep the standards high as expected b/c the place they're located in has a lot of competition. Hands-down, would still visit. We came on a Wednesday, which just so happens to be wine Wednesday! So we grabbed a bottle of Pinot Nior ($18 for the half off deal). We started with some pickle chips (clearly too good for me to even grab a photo of. Oops). They were the perfect size and had just the right amount of batter. For our entrees, I ordered the blackened Mahi tacos with sweet potato fries, and my friend had the Cuban sandwich with regular fries. In the warmer months, I am a sucker for a good fish taco and this one did not disappoint! It had avocado, mango salsa, coleslaw and their boom boom sauce. 10/10. The sweet potato fries were super tasty, too. My friend loved his Cuban, and let me try it since I've never had one! I would definitely order it from here. Each dish we tried was excellent, beautifully presented, and generously portioned without being overwhelming. The beverage selection was equally outstanding. We sat inside behind the bar, but would like to come back to enjoy the outdoor seating in the future. We ordered some wings and an Italian sandwich with sweet potato fries. The wings were good, nothing crazy. The Italian sandwich was delicious and a very good sized portion for the price. We were instantly sat outside upon our request but it soon became cold so we asked to move inside. They instantly moved us. We ordered oyster Rockefeller as an appetizer off the specials menu (it's different everyday). These were the absolute best oysters Rockefeller I've ever experienced. I didn't have to add any sauce. It was to die for. I wish they had them on the regular menu. They were extremely busy but Natalie was always checking in on us. I had a bottle of moscato that I was able to take what was left home. I try to make this a weekly outing if I can. My only request is the manager keeps her cool a little better. We heard her scream at an employee in the restroom and the time before that she was freaking out about a water leak in the bar. The table with the optional fireplaces the beautiful string lights. All the pretty plants. Then our waitress came to say hello and she was so kind and genuine throughout our whole meal. Her name is Daina. I was feeling really good about how this evening was going to go. We ordered the macaroni and cheese chorizo egg rolls as an appetizer. They were not great. The filling was just mush. Was there mac and cheese in there? Couldn't tell. I ordered the pound for pound pasta. My husband got the fish tacos. One son got the Cali burger and the other son got meatloaf. My pasta was dry and the three different meats were overcooked and dry. The chicken was rubbery, the shrimp was chewy and the sausage felt dehydrated. My husband said he enjoyed his fish tacos but the potato salad lacked flavor. My son said his burger was ok. My other son said he enjoyed his meatloaf. We also ordered a veggie pizza and the crust was so soggy. I know that can happen with veggie pizzas but it was disappointing. New River Taphouse has been on my list of restaurants to try for a while so I decided to stop in and check them out. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and I love how they have indoor and outdoor seating. If it were slightly warmer, I definitely would have sat outside. Our server greeted us right away and had such a great personality. She mentioned how every item on the menu was great and we couldn't go wrong with whatever we chose. After looking over the Drink Menu, I chose the Hot & Juicy Margarita which included fresh blood orange and lime juices with hot honey and a tajin rim! It was absolutely wonderful! For my entree, I ordered the Seafood Sampler, which included fried flounder, fried jumbo shrimp, and a crab cake along with fries and cole slaw. The seafood was pretty good but my favorite was the flounder and shrimp, which were cooked perfectly and tasted very fresh. Unfortunately, the crab cake was mediocre and was missing some flavor. Overall, the service was absolutely wonderful and with the menu having such an array of items, I definitely plan on returning to try other entrees and drinks. read more

Everything sounded so good in the menu, but we were disappointed with some of the dishes. The macaroni and cheese was simply bland and very milky. Would not order again. I wasn't that impressed with the fish and chips either. Although the fish itself was decent, they were slightly overcooked and the batter did not adhere very well. The fries were average. The French dip sandwiches that my two aunts had were looking good and they did enjoy them. The service was great and we enjoyed sitting on the patio. The service was great, and we loved their mimosa flights--you can choose from about ten flavors, and it was a 10/10 experience. Whenever I am on this side of the bridge I will be coming here! I came with my family and everything was fantastic. I had the breakfast pizza and this was one of the best breakfast pizzas I've had. My wife had the California salad (could be named something different) but this was so fresh and delicious. Brook who took care of us was fantastic and she knew the menu! We sat on the patio with a nice garden feel. Love the tables with the firepit (was not on as it was hot outside). Would be great for an evening dinner. We went to New River Tap House to celebrate a birthday and were so glad we chose this place! We went on a Friday night and it was pretty packed and busy. We were told the wait would be about 40 minutes for our group of 6 but we only waited about 15 minutes! The ambiance when you walk in is tavern-like but for some reason it seems a little more upscale in my opinion. Their upstairs can be rented out for large parties up to 50 people and it definitely gives Great Gatsby vibes! You could definitely dress it up to come here or keep it casual. Now the food is SPECTACULAR. We started off with an espresso martini, we tried both the regular and the frozen one. Both were quite amazing and well-balanced! I like mine a little more sweet and a little less strong but these 2 seemed to have the perfect balance between the 2. We had the Mega Pretzel as an appetizer and boy they weren't lying when they said this thing was Mega. The pretzel came with 3 dipping sauces: cheese, mustard and cinnamon. I unfortunately did not try the cheese but the mustard and cinnamon spreads were chefs kiss. The mustard was heavy on the horse radish so if you don't like that kind of taste I wouldn't go for that, but I loved it. The cinnamon was sweet but not too sweet. I ordered the surf and turf and all I can say is I inhaled the entire thing. My goodness. I ordered the filet medium rare and they gave me just that. It was cooked to perfection. The harmony between the risotto, the fresh veggies, pickled veggies, meat and shrimp was just heavenly. The kale was roasted perfectly and literally crumbled in your mouth as you ate it. The watermelon radish and cucumbers added a nice refreshing touch. The pickled veggies were a little spicy to my liking due to the jalapeño but if you don't mind a little spice you'd probably love it. I honestly still ate it all because it was just THAT good. Everything on this dish was well thought out. I loved all of it. If you're debating between this dish and another, just go ahead and do yourself a favor and pick this one haha. You won't be disappointed. I definitely plan on coming back to try more things, but man that surf and turf entree is going to make it hard for me to order anything else haha. On 3/18/23, I dined at New River Taphouse for the first time with a group of friends. We were a party of 9 - we enjoyed excellent food & drink and impeccable service, all within a pleasant establishment. We had reservations and, after waiting for quite a while (I'll discuss later), we were seated. Initial table greet was instant and the drinks we ordered were placed at our table quickly. Our half of the table ordered an appetizer - the Fire Cracker Shrimp. This appetizer is lightly battered & fried shrimp tossed in sweet Thai chili sauce; served with homemade ranch. It was delicious - the batter wasn't too thick and didn't take away from the shrimp, and the Thai chili sauce provided the right amount of heat. It was a fantastic way to whet our appetites. In the meantime, we enjoyed drinks while chatting and catching up. I didn't grab pics of everyone's entrees, but one friend had the Crab Stuffed Rockfish (crab stuffed rockfish with Old Bay hollandaise; served with parmesan risotto & chef's vegetables) and another kept it simple - Fish n Chips (a generous portion of fried cod served with cole slaw, fries & tartar sauce). They both enjoyed their food and, based on what I saw, their entrees looked delectable. I was hungry, so I opted for the Ribeye & Lobster Tail (14oz ribeye paired with a steamed lobster tail; served with asparagus & mashed potatoes). This entree was excellent (not to mention humongous). The only issue I had was with the ribeye - it was too fatty. Out of the 14 oz., I'd say roughly 3-4 oz. of it was fat. I understand ribeyes (yeah, I worked at Outback Steakhouse, haha) are typically fatty (that's why they're so flavorful) but this much fat is technically not servable as the customer gets shortchanged. My meal was excellent, regardless, so this wasn't an issue (it may be if I get another fatty ribeye during future visits). Through no fault of New River's own, they were not able to sit us for a 6pm reservation (we were sat over an hour later). We were a big party and they had one section in mind for us. The problem was that the party currently there decided to stay well after they paid their tab. Ten minutes turned into 20. Twenty minutes turned into 45 - when asked by the staff, their excuse was they wanted to finish one of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament games (Arkansas upset defending national champion, and #1 seed, Kansas). But when that game ended, that party continued to sit there, order nothing and chat as if they were in their own dining room. Eventually the New River staff requested they leave because of our reservation. Those d**kheads had the nerve to stare us down as they walked past us. Whatever, you paid your tab and are taking money away from the staff because you're not ordering anything else. Also, regardless of your age and status (they were all over 50 and looked well-to-do), I have no problem knockin' a motherf**ker out for being a jerk, especially when that toxicity is directed at my friends and I. Their sense of entitlement was startling, but not at all surprising. Anyways, get the f**k out. I love the fact that the New River staff looked out for us. This effort obviously carried over to our dining experience, so I have nothing but praise for this establishment. Their food is excellent (keep working on the ribeyes, though!), too. We called a week in advance and asked about reservations. We were told that they don't have reservations and that they always had plenty of seating. When we arrived, we had to wait over an hour! Someone called us while we, a party of 9, stood around in the cold parking lot. Could NOT understand her, but understood that she asked about high chairs. 10 minutes later, she called again- literally yelling and berating us for not coming in to the saved table. Obviously a misunderstanding, but hostile. Really. The place was shoulder to shoulder, very loud and uncomfortable. I was underwhelmed by the menu and would not have chosen the place for our group, but I went with our party. I ordered the fish and chips which were glorified fish sticks that I could have gotten frozen at a good grocery store. The breading was a tasteless fried crust. Not what I as expecting of fish and chips. I subbed fries for cold, barely cooked, sparse tater tots. The tiny cup of side coleslaw was inedible. The price on the website was different than the one on the menu and the bill was different, as well. Granted it was only a few dollars, but to me, seemed deceptive and unprofessional. I ordered the calamari appetizer to share. It was cold and limp. I didn't drink any alcohol (it was too stuffy in there for me to drink alcohol) opting instead for water which was never refilled. I drank my partner's water. The mixed drinks did look tasty, though. I sipped to taste a coffee flavored martini which was good. Our lone waitress was as good as she could be without help. She really hustled to the point that my husband and I actually felt sorry for her. They were obviously under staffed and not prepared for the busy Sunday night. They have outdoor fire pits that were perfect for the cool early evening. This is more fitting for a date or friends going out and not necessarily all of the kids and family. Although, I'm sure they wouldn't send you away. Food: I had a BYO Pizza and it was excellent. I got it with pepperoni, sausage, and spinach. The pizza was baked perfectly and was not burnt at all. There was little sauce and it was quite cheesy but the crust was buttery and perfectly golden brown. The grilled chicken sandwich was just okay. The chicken was definitely dry but also flavorful and needed some extra sauce whether that be mayo, bbq sauce, or your topping of choice. The mango salsa was not enough on its own. The fries were delicious. We love beer battered fries and they were made perfectly. Service: Excellent for a Friday evening. It was somewhat busy but we made it just before the dinner rush around 6:00 pm. Our waitress was nice and attentive. There were no issues. Especially since she had another party of 12 come in about 3/4ths of the way through dinner. Prices are about what you would expect and the portions are about average. We would like to come back and try a drink or two as well as they have an extensive drink list. Food - Amazing! French toast was fluffy and tasteful, even without adding syrup. I had a side of bacon, which wasn't anything spectacular but it was great. I'd like to see a little effort in the bacon. My husband got a Philly omelette with au gratin cut fries. I really loved the potatoes. As an appetizer we ordered firecracker shrimp. They were so good! The shrimp were spicy, sweet and crunchy. The dill ranch was a perfect touch. Drinks! Popsicle mimosas and regular mimosa flights were a nice touch. Took myself on a solo date and decided to try new river ! I sat outside by the water, and it was very nice even on a hot, muggy day! There was plenty of shade, and they have plenty of fans blowing. I tried the New River Old Fashioned. It wasn't my cup of tea but I am not usually a whiskey drinker. The chorizo and mac and cheese egg roll appetizer with the house made ranch were very good! As an entree, I got the seafood sampler. I liked that I was able to have my crab cakes grilled instead of fried! It was a lot of food, and that was good as well.
