My friends and I were on our way out of NYC and did a quick google search for Mexican food. We took a short detour off the highway to get here and it ended up being a great decision. Went there for the first time this week. Service was quick and waitress friendly. We were given tortilla chips while we waited. The chips were stale. It the salsa it was served with was delicious and flavorful. You could taste the jalapeño, cilantro, tomatoes, etc. My son's both ordered burritos. One beef, one chicken, they both enjoyed them very much. It was served with crema. Very good size for the price. I had the bistec (steak) chimichanga. It was really one of the best chimichangas I have ever had. The meat was seasoned and it was full of red and green peppers. The meal was served with refried beans and rice which were also pretty good. Will definitely eat here again. read more

Without question the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever visited. The positive reviews can only have been written by the owner or friends. 1. No Margaritas ( only warm beer) 2. Only 1 waiter and dressed in clothes you would use to clean the garage. 3. No parking 4. Very limited menu. Most of the most popular Mexican favorites are missing. 5. Food was barely edible 6. I wish I could have given 4 1/2 stars because the décor definitely leaves a lot to be desired. That said the service was friendly and efficient. But the food was absolutely PHENOMENAL! I read the reviews and thought they may be exaggerating, but they were right on. Best Mexican food I've ever had! Looks like Hacienda Don Manuel has some competition! The guac was easily the best I ever had. And the Pollo en crema (Chicken in creamy Chipotle sauce with chopped onions and mushrooms) was amazing. I couldn't get over how awesome that sauce was. I read the reviews and decided to stop here for dinner on our way to Lake Placid. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to get a table on a Friday at 7:00pm, but we did. Exactly as others have written: a hole-in-the-wall place, clean, basic decorations, but the food!! Absolutely fantastic food - and LOTS of it! Sopes w chicken is my new favorite. Thick homemade savory corn "pancakes" topped with marinated shredded chicken, lettuce, avocado slices, and Mexican cheese. Yum! The guacamole is very fresh and delicious. I didn't try the table salsa, but my husband loved it, and they also had super hot sauce for him. The margaritas were okay, but needed another shot (good thing, because we had 4 more hours to drive). The beer was ice cold. It is now our regular stop whenever we are anywhere near the general area of Suffren. I'm from San Francisco. If you know the Mission District, you know places just like this. Little hole-in-the-wall that the locals flock to. Mom and pop making everything from scratch and authentic - not TexMex style. read more

In a competitive Suffern marketplace for Mexican food, this place really stands out. Started with the guac, which might have been the best we've ever had, chunky with the right bit of sweetness. I had the barbacoa tamale special, smoky and delicious, my wife had the ropa vieja, tender and sweet. My daughter enjoyed the huevos rancheros. Service was excellent, atmosphere was spare and authentic, and we will be returning for sure. read more

Best mexican food we've ever had outside of Mexico! Tacos are amazing. Authentic without all of the sloppy cheese and sour cream. Just meat, onions and cilantro with a squirt of lime. We were looking for another restaurant but found this one first. The menu is not vegetarian friendly, but we asked and they made some excellent veggie burritos. I think this is the best of the Mexican restaurants in Suffern. The menu is pretty broad, and everything I've had has been fresh and nice. The Cuban sandwich is great. They don't have a lunch menu, which is a bummer. But I think it's the best sitdown place locally (better than Hacienda, Chilitos, etc.). read more

Definitely a hole in the wall, and you go there for authentic Mexican food, not for ambiance. Service is friendly and not too slow. We've been there three times so far and have only ordered the Nachos con Carne because as much as other items on the menu intrigue us, the nachos are just SO GOOD! They're incredibly fresh, not too heavy, and very filling. We'll try to branch out next time, and I'll update my review once we've explored more of the menu, but for now, I can definitely recommend the nachos :) read more

Great nachos! We came in the middle of the afternoon on a week day so we were the only ones there, but service was still good. Our main meals were delicious and we definitely had to take both home after filling up on the nachos. We'll be back! read more
