Great beef veggie soup with a dear friend

Can you keep a secret??? There's a place in Delmar that is beautiful, protected on all sides from the forces of evil, and has really great food at incredibly reasonable prices. One Six Five. It's a name that means nothing, it's hard to remember, it's difficult to search for online, and is hidden inside the Normanside Country Club at the very end of a windy side road. I'm fairly sure that vampires and zombies are just too stupid to find the place. Wow, was it ever quiet inside. Elegant, cloth table dressings, fireplace aglow, lots of windows, high ceilings, lovely bar area, professional service. We were only one of two tables over the lunch hour this past Saturday. I wondered if there were superheroes at the other tables that had the power to remain hidden in public. Stitch ordered the soup du jour of the day, Beef Vegetable ($3) - thick, rich, loaded up with tender meat and corn and potatoes and tomato, tasting like a fine, classic beef stew. She followed with one of the specials, Shrimp & Chicken Stir Fry ($9) - sweet and salty, a generous serving, more of a sauce than a stir fry, served over rice. It was tasty, mildly spicy, comforting. I enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad ($9) - a beautiful plate, crisp lettuce, thin tender chicken fillets, lots of parm, garlicky, a few too many perfectly crunchy croutons, but I just pushed them aside. You know, vampires, just in case. A lovely meal, safe, cozy and delicious. xxx Zena, Goddess of Fire

I never give a five, so wish I could give 4.75 here. We were so pleasantly surprised. Expecting mediocre food, but most everything was 5 star. The bread was fresh and perfect. The butters were creative and unadulterated by refrigerator odor, though a bit old. My entree was lovely, chicken with lemon grass(a flavor which I have loved since olden days at Yono's) crispy on the outside and tender inside. Dessert was WARM chocolate cookies with peanut butter mousse with excellent whipped cream. Wow. Companion- not known for his appreciation of aesthetics- commented repeatedly on the wonderful presentation. He even requested Chef Ken to come out so he could thank him. THAT has never happened before! Service very good. Ambiance good. Prices - good value. We 'll definitely be back. PS:We dined on an uncrowded Wednesday night.

After going back and forth with the menu that is full of great options, I ordered the Bistec Encebollado, grilled veggies, rice and pigeon peas, and plantains. The steak was so big, I totally left with a second meal. My husband ordered peppered steak, mashed potatoes and grilled veggies, and that was also a large serving. Both meats were juicy, tender, and well seasoned. The mashed potatoes were freshly mashed and perfectly seasoned, as were the vegetables, and the plantains were nice and sweet. I was warmly greeted, seated, and given a menu and then it took some time, well after I was ready, to be visited to place my order. No biggie, but I was ready and it wasn't busy, with guests at 1 other table. When I finished my meal, I waited again. Not a huge problem but a lot of side work was being done vs providing service. I let server know I was all set and he acknowledged then continued to make drinks for kitchen staff. I had ordered lemonade but after checking, it looked like they were out, so he offered the juice (without explaining). Food was very tasty. Lunch was $37 before tip, for 3 tacos meal, 3 empanadas app, and the fruit drink.

First, your Brunch menu and food are excellent, when we finally got our food - after roughly an hour of waiting - I was instantly reminded of why Dove and Deer is great - bold flavors, excellent preparation, gorgeous plates all in a city that desperately needs it. Second, I really felt bad for the 3 people responsible for running an entire restaurant on a Sunday (two waiters and one person in the kitchen). They did their absolute best, were so kind and apologetic, but obviously completely stressed out and frazzled. Tables got up and left after waiting for someone to get back to them - and we almost did too. It's unfair to restaurant staff to put the burden of running an entire place on them. I get if someone called off and you're short staffed 1 or 2 people, but did everyone call off? Besides 3 people? Come on. You have a real opportunity to be a go to brunch destination, my advice is to staff appropriately and give it a real go or risk customers not getting to experience the greatness that is your food - and taking their dollars to someplace far more mediocre. The only reason this isn't a 2 star or 1 star review is because of how hard your staff tried, and how good your food is (when it finally shows up).

Yes, you can make reservations which is what we did to ensure we would have a table on Friday night. It wasn't necessary but with a larger crowd it is a must if you are expecting to get seated otherwise you may just have to rely on luck. We had a variety of eaters in our group but Savoy was able to accommodate all. Appetizers. Soups, salads, burgers, and even hotdogs most menu items can be customized to be made vegan. This often means omitting the cheese. And here is where I think this should have been a five star experience but they lost me on this... burgers can substitute a Beyond patty for an additional $3, infact, the only burger on the menu made entirely vegan is the "Far Beyond Lark" with fries which was price at $24. Literally the most expensive burger on the menu. It's 2026, the cost of Beyond or Impossible meat is almost the same as beef. Why are vegans still being penalized to pay a higher price when dining out? If anything make the vegan burger the same price as the others and add a $1 substitution fee to make any of the others vegan with vegan cheese, Beyond burger patty, and vegan mayonnaise. Just a thought. All the burgers come on a lovely toasted brioche bun but because it contains egg, the vegan substitute is a sad gluten free bun of dispare and remorse. The cauliflower wings were delicious, I got Nashville Hot but something in them almost gave me Indian food vibes like a curry of some kind? The fries are the absolute best, I love a basket of good hand cut French fries. The guys at the table who ordered their burgers enjoyed them, although they needed extra napkins but that's not always a bad thing. Overall, great experience! I would love to go back. I hope to see in the future a menu change to be more inclusive of customers on a plant-based diet considering their health and not how deep their pockets are.

It felt less like closing time and more like a gentle-but-firm "you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here." Meanwhile, the bar area up front was packed and vibey, so shutting down the back while we were the only ones there was... a choice. Shoutout to the music though -- solid playlist, good energy. Side note: the hostess up front had some... interesting energy. Not bad, just a little confused. When we moved a table to make space she said, we cant do that. It was -15 outside and no one was there---- Overall: great food, great server, fun bar vibe -- just be prepared for a dramatic lighting change if you're in the back late. Would still go back (and probably sit closer to the bar next time).

The building itself is impressive, although maybe not quite as impressive as the castle-looking building next door. Our party of seven settled in at the bar as there otherwise did not seem to be a large enough table for all of us to gather around in either the main lounge area or a small room off to the side. The dark wood paneled walls, large fireplace, assortment of easy chairs, couches, and high desktop table gave off a feeling of warmth and welcoming. The friendly bartender introduced herself (sorry I've forgotten her name) and informed us that spirit-wise, the bar was capable of preparing the standard, traditional drinks like Manhattans, martinis, etc. All beers were poured from cans, and at my request, she recited the names of about six that were available. I don't believe anyone in our party inquired about the wines that were available. The building simply calls out for an explanation of its history. Upon our request, the bartender offered to provide either the "brief" or "full" option. We requested the full history. She was obviously well up to the task. You would be amazed at the variety of things you could learn here. Just to touch on a few key topics that were mentioned, consider Alexander Hamilton's wife, puffed rice, Bab-o cleanser (cue up the jingle), Bishop Gibbons, and an orthopedic surgeon. I don't know what the normal food arrangements are in the Lounge. I'm guessing that our out-of-town hosts requested some snacks for us as a few bowls appeared with mixed nuts, crackers and cheese, fresh grapes, humus, and warm pretzel/croissant rolls, and a plate of prosciutto wrapped cream cheese. Overall, the atmosphere here is simply friendly and inviting. I think it will become an occasional gathering place for our local friends when looking for a place that is quiet and relaxing.

We made reservations but did not need them (it was a Wednesday) as the restaurant was only partially full. This place has a very warm and friendly decor. Fancy without being pretentious. As a Jazz fan I appreciated the playlist throughout the night. Our server Dennis came over and took our drink orders. I had the Manhatten which was really good - walnut liqueur, bourbon, orange peel and a cherry. My date had the martini which I tasted and was also pretty good. For appetizers we were going to get the fingerling potatoes w/ chickpeas but our server recommended the Korean lettuce wraps (we got them w/ mushrooms). These were pretty good but kind of messy for my liking - you put them together on your own and are provided with romaine lettuce, kimchi, pickled veggies, mushrooms/beef and a "spicy" sauce which I found lacking in much heat (I am a bit of a heat seeker). We also got the "warmed" spiced olives which were definitely a hit for me but not so much my girlfriend. For mains I had the "smoked" brisket en biere w/ cauliflower and gravy. The meat was super tender, well seasoned but I really don't think it was smoked - the texture was that of braised beef, not bbq. That being said, it was quite good along with the riced and roasted cauliflower. My girlfriend had the pasta dish w/ mushrooms. I tried a bite and thought it was OK - she thought it was a bit pricey ($29) for what it was, I agreed. We're not big desert people but Dennis mentioned the tiramisu and we're big fans so we ordered it and it might've been the best bite of the night, really enjoyed it especially the crumbled pistachios. Overall it was a really nice meal, service was attentive and quick and the food was overall pretty tasty. We will definitely be heading back.
