Myplace was the place to be back in 2015-2017. Everyone remembers when it was located in Chinatown square. Then it got moved to Wabash and now it's back in the Chinatown area. This time, it comes with free parking in the back! Myplace has a unique breakfast menu, lunch menu, and regular menu items. I enjoy the breakfast menu because it comes with a drink. I like to come here when I just want a simple meal. No frills, no extras, just simple food. Myplace has a lot of the traditional hk style food items like French toast, beef brisket noodle, lemon tea, etc. I would say that Myplace is friendly for all ages! Whether you're meeting up with friends or having a quick bite, Myplace is the place to be. For food, the noodle never disappoints. It's flavorful and good portion size. I grew up in Hong Kong and cafes (cha chaan teng) like My Place have a very special place in my heart. There are seemingly not many places like this in Chicago anymore, especially after the pandemic. Certainly even fewer that hit the intersection of fast service, affordable prices, and most importantly, delicious food. In my opinion, My Place fulfills all those criteria. While it's not quite in Chinatown, I really like their location especially the free parking in the back. This restaurant has excellent specials with breakfast from 11-2 and then afternoon tea from 2-5. For one price, you can get a full-sized meal plus a drink! Some of the entrees I really like are the Portuguese Chicken baked rice and the Satay Beef noodle soup. My favorite drink is their Hong Kong milk tea which is probably some of the silkiest and most authentic I've had in Chicago. The best part? These specials are available on weekends. Service is going to be as-expected for a Hong Kong cafe; you have to get the staff's attention or else they're just going to walk right past you. The perfect Hong Kong-style cafe with huge tables! This place was absolutely packed on a Sunday lunch around 2pm. We were able to fit 12-15 people! Their menu is such a great deal, especially for breakfast and afternoon tea sets that come with a drink. The service was efficient despite our huge table. Shredded chicken and corn with baked spaghetti ($8.95) 4/5 - creamy yet light at the same time! A generous portion of shredded chicken baked with cheese on top! So, it is back! Chicago's staple Chinese/cantonese food place. This place is finally back near Chinatown with the OG staff from 2018 and most importantly, the FLAVOR is back!!!! This place kept me fed during my young professional days (2014-2018), thus it is an extremely special place to my wife and me. With all this said, yes, I had to try when they had a "soft" opening, had great experience, and I went back again a week after to confirm that the food quality is indeed consistent. Five stars from me, and probably from 30+ other Asian folks who were at this cozy restaurant. A lot of typical dishes in the menu, but the lack of flavor from their Wabash location is no longer the case. The only difference from 2018? Part of their menu is like the Hong Kong cafes with milk tea, congee, noodles, etc. There are 2-3 large round tables with lazy susans that can fit 10 people like the traditional Chinese restaurants. At their new location on State street, there is a parking lot behind the restaurant or paid street parking outside which is convenient. I came for their afternoon (2pm-5pm) menu which is a bargain. The set menu comes with a drink, toast, scrambled eggs, and an entrée. The portion was definitely dinner size portions. Their milk tea taste very authentic. The Portugese rice curry sauce taste OK. It is Chinese curry which is less sweet. This dish traditionally requires baking as the less step for the rice to soak in the curry sauce, but it felt like they just poured the curry on top. It is OK for a quick bite, but less of a showcase place. If I find the time, I'll try their breakfast menu next time. read more

Restaurant was nicely decorated with pictures of HongKong. Great friendly staff. I ordered Fish Ball Noodle soup and Ham and Macaroni soup. Both broth were very tasty , felt like I was in HK. As for the drink I ordered Hong Kong style Milk tea and Ice Lemon tea both fantastic. The only thing I was not a fan of is how the food came out. Haven't been to my place since they moved from Chicago Chinatown to Wabash and don't think I will visit again. When we first arrived there was no greeting. Not very friendly. We got the afternoon tea special for $8.95 and not very good. Both of our drinks Yin Yang (coffee and tea) and lemon honey smelled bad. My hubby ordered the beef brisket noodle soup and it was so little and not great. I ordered the satay beef vermicelli and it was tasteless and noodles were mushy. This used to be my husband and my favorite Chinese restaurant when it was in Chinatown. During Covid, they were priced out of their location and moved to Wabash. At first it was okay, but then it progressively got worse. Finally they moved back to the Chinatown area and seem to have their old staff back? They just opened a couple weeks ago. Everything was just as I remember. We have been there twice now. The first time we ordered the salt and pepper shrimp, garlic pea tips, hand shredded chicken, and fish filet with chili pepper. The salt and pepper shrimp was EXCELLENT. Perfect fried and flavored. The garlic pea tips were also good. Fresh and well flavored. However, it did lack the wok flavor of the original location; hoping it will come back in time. The hand shredded chicken was also good. The fish filet was decent, but could use the ground szcechuan pepper flakes it used to have (and is quite frankly featured on the menu picture). We went back today and it was the same excellent quality. We ordered the deep fried quail, cumin lamb, and salt and pepper squid. The deep fried quail was fried nicely. Though I did as for a salt and pepper dip (which they used to do) instead of the duck sauce that they now serve it with. The cumin lamb was excellent. The pieces of lamb were thick and juicy and had the perfect amount of fresh red onions, green onions, and cilantro; very good spice combo. The salt and pepper shrimp was also excellent. Same level of quality as the shrimp from the first time we went. Service is typical of Chinese restaurants. Don't expect fine dining but they are friendly. They were extremely busy but responded fast when you called them over. The ambiance was of a typical Chinese restaurant. Simple. But not hole in the wall. read more

My buds and I recently dined at My Place. Well, not "my place" since I don't cook whatsoever but a Chinese restaurant called My Place. This place called My Place was formerly in Chinatown Square but is now in the South Loop. It's a fairly large establishment with full bar and a seafood tank, but when we came to eat on a late Saturday afternoon it was not too crowded. Wall decor gives you the impression that you are dining in Hong Kong. We each went with an "afternoon tea special" which includes main course and a beverage. Two of us ordered the pan fried rice noodles with beef, and I chose the lemon tea. We also ordered roasted duck rice noodles in a soup, and pan fried pot stickers. The Cantonese dishes are very straightforward and satisfied our craving for Asian food. The service is decent, and the prices and portion sizes are reasonable. read more

I am actually not a big fan of non-spicy food but my parents in law from HK said it was very authentic so I tried it and like it immediately. It's an excellent place to meet people who miss HK or have been there. The dining room is vibrant, energetic, and loud and similar service to HK cafes. My family love the lunch deals--beef noodle soup and coffee are our go-to--and the afternoon tea specials are fantastic too. The lobster specials are another highlight, offering high quality at a great value. Plus, the free parking in the back is a huge bonus. Watch out - it fills up quickly for lunch. What really makes MyPlace stand out is the crowd. The restaurant is always packed with Chinese patrons, creating a great environment for my family to connect with fellow diners. While they do offer Americanized Cantonese food like orange chicken and crab rangoon, the real draw here is the authentic Hong Kong flavors. I had never been to the My Place location that was previously located in Chinatown but I just visited the My Place location in South Loop and was pleasantly surprised. I chatted with the man next to me and he had mentioned this was a childhood favorite for many of his friends and they're extremely excited My Place is back in business. Please note their operating hours in the South Loop: Mon-Thurs: 11am-10pm Fri-Sat: 11am-11pm Sun: 11am-10pm Delivery hours: 11am to 10pm website: https://www.myplacesouthloop.com/menus In terms of decor, the place is unchanged from when Lobo Rey was here. They maintained the same areas (including the bar), tables and chairs. They did add some nice wall decor but other than that the set up looks very similar to Lobo Rey. The menu here is extensive. I've uploaded the pictures from their to go menu as well as their lunch and afternoon specials. Prices here for most entree dishes are $11.95 to $13.95. Seafood dishes are priced higher. They have great specials (I think only offered to eat-in patrons): lunch special: 11am-2pm- $6.95 to $7.95 & includes drink afternoon special: 2pm-5pm- $7.95 & includes drink They also have combo box meals which include an entree with fried rice and an egg roll for $9.95 (all day deal?). I ate here on a Thursday late afternoon around 4:30pm and was surprised to see 7 tables already seated with diners. The afternoon special looked good but I wanted something more filling so I ordered the singapore rice noodles and the stir fried string beans. Both smelled and tasted delicious. Neither dish was greasy. Their online menu says the string beans were hot and spicy but they were mildly spicy (if that!). They arrived at my table extremely quick too--about 5-7 minutes! A quick review for a quick lunch. We dropped in on Saturday and they're still soft opening, but the place was more than half full and filling quickly. The wait staff definitely have some kinks to work out and our "quick" lunch was a bit longer than expected. That being said, food was tasty and an exceptional value. Mongolian beef was not spicy, but I'll know to ask for more next time. Other dishes coming out looked great - especially the wings and seafood plates. For now, you need to advocate for yourself (to get your order taken, to get more water, to pay the bill), but everyone is friendly and a bit apologetic which is really understandable. If you visited here when it was the Mexican place, decor and layout haven't changed, but no more blaring music and now there are actual patrons inside! The convenience of this spot is a hit for me! It's so close to our condo. You can easily order via the yelp app and pick up within 15 minutes. They have a great deal with a dish, fried rice, and an egg roll for about $10. My husband and I ordered in for dinner last night, I got the Mongolian beef and he got the orange chicken. I was not a fan of the egg roll, mine sort of had a fishy taste to it. My husband didn't seem to smell/taste it, I am pregnant so I chalked it up to that. I did enjoy my beef and rice though! Average Chinese food. I've ordered from My Place a couple of times now and each time my experience has just been okay. The food is decent, but nothing spectacular. My go-to Chinese restaurant is Ming Hin, but they're somewhat expensive and the portion size is on the smaller side so I'm always open to trying other Chinese restaurants not far from my neighborhood. That how I ended up checking out My Place. They offer $12 combos which include chicken friend rice, egg roll and a main entree which is fairly reasonable. The first time we ordered the pepper streak, beef with broccoli and orange chicken. My sister loved the pepper steak so she ordered it again the second time we placed an order. I didn't care for the orange chicken and the beef with broccoli was just okay. The rice didn't have much flavor, but adding soy sauce helped a lot. The egg rolls were good and probably our favorite part of the meal. My sister also ordered Egg Drop soup, dI can't recall if she enjoyed it or not. The second time we ordered pepper steak, sweet n sour chicken and Mongolian beef. This time around we weren't that impressed with the food. There seemed to be less meat and more rice. The sweet n sour chicken wasn't good. The breaded chicken was drowned in sauce so it was really soggy. The Mongolian beef was good and I appreciated the fact that they didn't drown it in onions. Again, my sis loved the Pepper Steak and we both enjoyed the egg rolls. My sister likes My Place more I do. It's okay for the price, but not really that great. In the future I'll probably spend a little extra money and order from Ming Hin. Update - We ordered from My Place for the last time yesterday. If you order the combo they'll really just serve a styrofoam container full of rice with a sliver of meat. This place used to be in Chinatown a few years ago and relocated to downtown. This is the first time we visited since then. They have specials for morning and afternoon. I had wonton noodle which came in 5 wonton and noodle with a hot drink for $8.95. They have other selections better than what I chose. We also had steamed oysters and they are dinner menu for $8 each. Oysters were great! The place is pretty busy as well. When you see a lot of Chinese that tells you the place is good.
