I figured I could handle that since I was tight on cash, and the repair wouldn't go over $500. After a quick test drive around the block--where I did hear some clicking, but it didn't sound too bad--I decided to buy it. On my 20-mile drive home, that clicking sound started raising doubts. It didn't seem like just a CV axle issue anymore, though I couldn't quite figure out what it was. The engine and transmission were running great, so I thought it had to be something simple, right? I took it to a highly-rated local shop, and they diagnosed the problem as the front differential or transmission (it's an AWD vehicle). Unfortunately, they said they don't work on transmissions. Well, FML. Next, I took it to a well-recommended transmission shop. After a few days, they confirmed the same issue and gave me a rough estimate of $1,900 to $2,500 for a used replacement. No rebuilt or new parts were available. FMLx2. I then brought it to my go-to guy, who's great at swapping parts and doing some diagnostics. He said he could handle the repair for $1,200, including sourcing a used part. But after two weeks of searching, he had no luck. FMLx3. At this point, I did my own research and decided if I could stay under $2,500, the repair would be worth it based on the car's value. I posted a project on Yelp to solicit bids from local shops. That's when Memo from AAMCO reached out. I was hesitant at first, but AAMCO has been around forever, and Memo seemed legit. I figured they'd either be the most expensive or the most reasonable since they specialize in transmissions. I checked reviews on Google and Yelp, and they looked good, so I decided to give Memo a shot. I dropped by to talk to him, and he was great--super communicative and really listened to my situation. I left the car with him, and the next day, I got a call. Of course, the repair exceeded my $2,500 budget. Same diagnosis: front differential/transmission replacement with a used unit. The estimate was $2,800, but they'd thoroughly inspect the replacement to ensure it was good. So close, but still over budget. I told him I'd call back. I was ready to schedule the car for auction and cut my losses, but something in my gut told me the car was worth saving. I called Memo back and asked if he could do it for $2,700. After some discussion, he agreed to work with me. Two days later, the car was ready. Memo had a surprise for me--the replacement transmission came with a new mount, and they managed to bring the total cost just under $2,600, nearly at my budget. THAT is honesty and integrity. I've been driving the car, and it feels exactly how a 20-year-old car in great shape should. No more clicking noises, and it's running beautifully. Since AAMCO handles other types of repairs, Memo and his team have officially become my go-to shop. I highly recommend seeing Memo at AAMCO if you need reliable, trustworthy service.

His attention to detail truly saved me from making some costly mistakes. Peter was very responsive and even called me right after each inspection to explain the car's condition in detail. Thanks to him, I finally found a car that passed inspection and gave me peace of mind. Paying for a pre-purchase inspection before buying a used car should be nonnegotiable for everyone. I highly recommend Car Saints -- their service is 100% worth it.

I placed an order on their website for a pre-purchase inspection and they were able to come out to meet the seller of the vehicle the next day. After the inspection, the inspector gave me a call with his findings and overall impression of the vehicle . The day after the inspection, a written report and a numerous inspection photos were available on the order page of their website. The written report specifically covered the following areas: Road Test, Engine & Mechanical, Suspension & Undercarriage, Tires & Brakes, Exterior & Body Condition. The level of detail in the report and the number of photos provided was satisfactory. Overall, it was a good overall experience and I'm happy with the service provided and with the vehicle I purchased. Why did I not give a full five stars? First, I believe a whining transmission noise they noted in their report was misdiagnosed. It seems to have been caused by the car's AC compressor that progressively whined louder before eventually failing during the fifth drive after purchase. Second, the report indicated that the transmission was leak free but I've found the slightest pooling of transmission fluid in my garage since the first day I purchased the car. Lastly, minor details seemed to be missed like missing roof weather strips/mouldings, a detached fog lamp, and sanding/repair work done on the rear bumper and rear fenders. If they had the means to diagnose the whining noise further and offered that as an add-on package, I probably would have availed and subsequently provided a higher rating.

He was super responsive to my texts, showed up right on time, and most importantly, was completely honest in both his assessment and repair. I had called around to multiple shops beforehand, and several of them told me that just the diagnostic alone would cost more than what Jose ended up charging me for both the diagnostic and the repair--and he came to my home! I honestly expected the convenience of a mobile service to cost more, but it didn't. Jose took his time, walked me through what he was seeing, and in just over an hour, had our A/C blowing cold air again. What really stood out to me was his integrity--he told me he'd check back in with me in about 5 days to make sure everything is still working, and if not, he wouldn't charge me to come back and take another look. That kind of honesty and follow-through is rare. It honestly brings so much peace of mind to find a local mechanic who not only has the skill, but the character and reputation you can trust. Jose came highly recommended by family friends, and now I see exactly why. I'll definitely be recommending him to all my friends and family moving forward. Appreciate you, Jose!

Learn how to upsell…read more Look - I'm standing up for the consumer. The price of gas has doubled. It's logical that people may try to fill their tank paying with a $100 bill. My tank is 13 gallons. This place was charging $6.26 for the lowest level octane. $6.29 (my tank was about empty) X 13 gallon tank = $81.77 At that price - "no change for $100, or can't break that" goes out the window. Just suggest that I spend the entire hundred. I even asked to buy a Red Bull. If you don't have that much change - fine. Just upsell, use your mouth, and say, "Buy such and such to round it out." That's it! I was not going to do the gas station attendant's job. If this individual is so gone that they can't upsell and (dare I say it) be a gas station attendant - maybe they should be working at Legoland California. Be a gas station attendant. Actually care about your job. I can tell that the people working here keep their jobs out of nepotism. Taco Bell will suggest that you just spend the whole bill, a gas station charging an arm and a leg for gas won't upsell and the gas station attendant is too lazy to suggest that you round out the bill - hilarious. - Had to make an edit, because I am disgusted by the bad service. I couldn't use my debit card, it was an emergency so I went here. Instead of a transaction taking place, I could have just spent the whole $100, the gas station attendant acted like the only thing they could do was let me down completely and have me drive off with an empty tank!
