I used a groupon for the first cleaning with American Maids. It was the best job any maid service has done in my house. Because I was so impressed, I scheduled another cleaning. The team that arrived this time did not do as good a job. We had a part of our window frame exposed (drywall was cut out a few days before their arrival) so that our contractor could measure and order a new window for us. There was no window being removed or installed the day they came, but they said the reason they didn't dust any of the window sills was because we were having windows installed. Not true. There was no one there installing windows. My husband was home and was working in our furnace room in the basement. They did not clean the shower walls either. I contacted their management office who was willing to give me 10% off on my next cleaning. I am giving them 3 stars because my first cleaning was so great. I would use them again, but only if I could use the first team who cleaned my house. read more

I have used My American Maids consistently for three years now. My regular team for about a year now is Aixa and Berenice, whom make my life as a busy working mother so much easier. Even after climbing all the stairs to our condo, they arrive on-time with big smiles on their faces and always greet my two dogs with affection. My pugs love the team so much that they follow Aixa and Bere all over my home, wagging their tails. Aixa and Berenice leave my home sparkling clean every time they come, which is so appreciated in a home with dogs and a young child. When we upgrade to the deep clean once a season, they leave the inside of my oven and fridge looking like brand new appliances. They take extra effort to thoughtfully contribute little touches, like helping replace all the books my child left out on the bookshelves or to line-up the stuffed animals on the crib in a sweet way. I like having the same team every visit; and I know how much my dogs light up when they hear Aixa and Bere on the steps! My American Maids is a small business with a lot of strengths. The only times I've ever had any issues--and really they were only confusion about scheduling that I shared at least some of the blame in--the office team makes an effort to solve until I am satisfied, and the work done on my place has always made me happy, even if it isn't my usual team. Three years ago I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Struggling through surgery after surgery, chemo, radiation, physical therapy and countless doctors appointments, I was unable to keep me home up to my standard of cleanliness. Through a friend, I was connected with "Cleaning For A Reason", a non-profit agency in Texas that matches cancer patients with a cleaning service in their local area. Once approved, the client, "me", can be provided up to four free cleanings. American Maids, a Chicago based company, has chosen to participate in this program. They have been to my house three times in the past few years, times when I was unable to clean. Each time they came, I felt that the ladies provided a high level of service. While they had a "basic" cleaning routine, they were willing to alter it to focus on my urgent needs - things I could not do like scrubbing the bathtub, washing down the tile backsplash in the kitchen, thoroughly cleaning the wood floors, etc. They made sure to limit the "chemicals" they used to clean since I was so sensitive to smell. I do not know if the ladies knew that I was receiving a "free cleaning", but I certainly would not have known it because I felt like I was treated as a paying customer. I hired AM for a house cleaning and will not be using them again. Three people spent just over two hours cleaning and left me with a bill and a whole bunch of chores to do myself. It was a poorly and incompletely executed service that did not meet expectations. I don't know about you, but I consider washing floors and thorough dusting part of a "basic cleaning". I don't have a huge house, and its state of general cleanliness was decent. They left having not dusted anything at all in some areas. They didn't wash the floors, clean the tub, or do a number of other tasks that I would consider "basic". They charge a premium price and clearly work against time, not outcomes. I still can't fathom how I'm expected to pay over two hundred dollars for a service that left me having to scrub, dust, and mob the next day. To add insult to injury, their customer service response was argumentative and unhelpful. The cleaning team people were friendly, but the service from sales to support was poor. read more

I've been using American Maids for bi-weekly cleaning for about a year. Every two weeks, two women come carting a whole bunch of cleaning supplies and do a reasonably good job cleaning my (3 bed, 2 bath) house in a couple of hours for about $200 a month. However, I do have some complaints. 1. Originally, I had the service scheduled on Mondays. There was one occasion that I had to cancel the Monday appointment, not realizing that I had to cancel 24 BUSINESS hours in advance. Their policy states 24-hours, but when I tried to cancel my Monday appointment on a Saturday, I was told I'd have to pay the cancellation fee. That's irritating. 2. Their policy states that they do not throw anything in the garbage that is not already in the garbage. So I have had the ladies make small piles of crumpled receipts and empty soap wrappers that I didn't manage to get into the garbage and leave them where I could find them, which is fine. Odd, but fine. On the other hand, my husband brews his own beer and collects empty beer bottles on the counter for bottling. They throw those away. 3. They do not seem to mop the floor in my laundry room. Admittedly, this room is where my cats' litter boxes live, but they definitely move the boxes and sweep around them, so I'm not sure what's going on there. 4. Their policy states that they do not open any cabinets or drawers unless explicitly asked to do so. However, I have on more than one occasion discovered something moved from one drawer or cabinet to another or moved from a counter into a drawer. Once from the bedside table drawer, a definite no-no! 5. Finally, it just seems like they have done a poorer job cleaning the longer we've used the service. We are moving in March, and will no longer be using their services after that. read more

Well, if you are the kind of person who has the time and the wherewithal to pre -clean for a maid service, this is probably a great place to find cleaning service. If you are in desperate need of someone to help you deep clean your house in preparation for staging for real estate sale and have boxes of any kind in the way of the maids, think again. I needed help getting my house ready to show and had some, 5 to be exact , boxes in my living room and some others stacked upstairs that I was about to load into my car to take to storage. One of the crew immediately took issue with this and I tried to explain that I was taking these boxes to storage. When I finally did this, it took me all of 15 minutes to do. Three rooms were completely ready to clean. I tried to explain that I would work ahead of them to not impede their cleaning. They said that I ordered the wrong kind of service and that they could not do the job. I was exasperated and more than likely said WTF more than once. Yes, I swear. It is part of my vernacular. Sorry that I offended these maids. When they said they could not help me, they went outside and called a supervisor to who I spoke. She said she would not charge me because they could or would not do the job. Truthfully at that point, anything would have helped. They said again and again that they could not do the job.A couple hours later, another supervisor who I had spoken to the previous day called me and said she had to charge me $75.00 although they did not do a stitch of work. Be careful of signing their contracts. Be careful of asking for their help if you are in desperate straits such as I was. After they finally left after smoking and talking on the phone in front of my house as I loaded boxes into my car, I called another company who was cheaper and more thorough and timely than I could have wished for. Be warned. Pre-cleaning necessary! read more

Inconsistent performance, came when specifically directed and agreed they would not and set off the alarm (we were out of the country), apparently stopped cleaning large portions of the building common area for months at a time. We'd been using them for over a year. Initially they were great, the same people would come and do a good job. Eventually, they started sending different people each time and we'd notice areas that used to be cleaned that were being ignored. We mostly didn't switch out of laziness. The final straw was when they set off our alarm because they came when they said they wouldn't. It was shocking that they would do this, they had every unit in the building and the common area as well. The owner would try to refute some of the comments I made along the way, but I don't believe she ever showed up to personally verify my comments. read more

I was very impressed with the job the two young ladies did in my place. In two hours, they really, really cleaned my place. I have no issue with the job they did and would recommend them highly. Definitely above and beyond. The reason this isn't five stars is because getting the service felt a little shady. I used the coupon and as soon as I bought the coupon to use, I was put on hold and switched to another person. In clarifying some points with this second person, they said the first person didn't really know and was new. Why have a person who can't answer questions about your business be the first point of contact? I also ended up adding an additional 30 or so dollars on top of the coupon to round my time up to two hours. Perhaps the coupon shouldn't be for a monetary amount but rather a set amount of time? Even though it wasn't necessarily a bait and switch situation, it felt like a bait and switch situation; the service provided ended up being excellent but after the phone call, I felt I had been taken. I have used another local maid service (Ana's Maid) which I was completely happy with but decided to get this Yelp deal and try out Amerian Maids. To be honest, while both were great, I liked this service better for a few reasons: 1) The ladies did not chat with one another unless it was work related (which was really thoughtful as I had to work from home). 2) The tub is spotless! 3) They dusted the blinds and along the trimmings of the wall which the other service did not do I would say both are good but I would probably go with American Maids again in the future. read more

They did a poor job, didn't finish cleaning ANY room, kept stopping to find eachother on different floors of the house to chat and then left early. When I called the owner to discuss, her reply was that she didn't believe me, didn't care and that since I'd paid the Groupon price, I should not have expected them to do a good job. I'd been looking especially for a service that uses green products and had a difficult time finding one with good reviews that would service our area. Our appointment was for a one-time cleaning. With two dogs, the fur seems to multiply and we really wanted someone to come in and scrub everything! The three ladies that were sent to our house arrived on time and did an excellent job cleaning. The price was also reasonable and within the quoted range ($120 for a three bedroom house, one-time cleaning.) I purchased the Groupon for this company and just had my appointment today. I know other people had some issues with AM, Groupon users in particular, but I think it was probably a case of "too much success". Sounds like they got hit with more business than they realized they were going to get. I made sure I read the fine print carefully before purchasing the Groupon AND I made my appointment about three weeks in advance. I was fully expecting them to be slammed with Groupon business. Overall, I think my experience was quite positive. I had team #4 doing my cleaning. The girls were quick and efficient. My kitchen is SO CLEAN, it's wonderful. Even my photo frames were wiped clean. I just moved in to this apartment, so it was a pretty quick job as I don't have a lot of furniture. I got a couple non-standard items included since they finished so quickly. My sweet husband got me American Maids Groupon as a nesting gift (as you are too pregnant to clean, but I don't want to do it). I was at first a little skeptical. I have never used a cleaning service before and growing up military, I am pretty hard to please about cleaning. So last week I called to book the appointment. My little one is due anytime now and I was holding off using it until then. When I called they said they had to email me this form and then they could tell me when they could do it. I was frustrated because I had wanted to book it and be done. I filled out the form emailed back and they called me in a half hour. I told them I needed them to come within the next week. She asked if she could look over her schedule and call me back. Thus my hesitation. I was thinking great, I'll just clean it myself. She promptly emailed me some times and asked what time would be better. Two of the three times conflicted with my schedule so I picked 1-3 (I thought that meant they would clean between 1-3 which in actuality was the arrival window). The appointment setter called the day before and confirmed the time telling me they would arrive between 1 -1:30 PM. I was like oh, OK. No big deal, not like I am going anywhere. The ladies showed up at 1:05 and ready to clean. They asked for my direction. I told them I just need you to clean what I can't which: is my bathroom, and kitchen, dust EVERYTHING!, clean the floors and vacuum. They went straight to work. My kitchen didn't look this good when I moved into this place. They did a phenomenal job. They could reach places I couldn't and they cleaned things I didn't think of. AND they finished early and asked for more things to do!! As a side note they didn't mind when my daughters where playing with the duster and asking them how they could help them clean. The house is always immaculate when they're through with it, I always get a rush when I walk in the door after a long day of work and the house is dust and dirt free! We had a prior cleaning service, but sought another after the crew from the other company broke several collectibles worth over $500 - so we tried American Maids. We started off with a deep clean that included a front to back, top to bottom dust/mop/vac, internal cleaning of over 20 windows, and a Murphy's Oil rub down of all interior doors. (We are in a Jeff Park bungalow with original, 90 year-old wood framing and doors, and both my wife and I are artists so we have lots of my woodworking and my wife's metalworking pieces scattered throughout the house.) They did a great job, and we invited them back for 2 subsequent cleanings. Each time, their crews were flexible with our changing needs. The crew showed up on time and were careful to make sure I was satisfied with their work--they even pointed out a couple of marks they couldn't get off the floor to make sure I was ok with it (stains and glue from construction--there was nothing they could've done to get them up). I appreciate the ability to fill out a request for a quote on their website. A surprisingly large number of cleaning services don't accept credit cards (or highly discourage it), so that was nice, too. Overall this was the best experience I have had with a cleaning company. Best maid service I ever had at house. The house was dusty and dirty. When the maids left it sparkled.

The crew sent to clean were efficient and thorough. The company's billing practices are a bit dishonest. I contracted with american Maids of Chicago to clean an apartment clearly stating that I would be hand-dashing all the blinds myself. When the e-receipt arrived five days later, I had been charge $49 for that service. A representative at the billing office said that the time allotted to the crew included time to clean the blinds. I just realized that accidentally left cash deposit envelopes from the Boutique cash register in my home china cabinets with almost $2,000 (have no idea why I would event put it there).
