Had a very good experience. The good: - Easy to make appointment online - Optometrist Dr. Thomas was personable / skiilled - Recommended I try a new lens they prefer Baush and Lomb True Eye vs the Acuvue I was wearing. Turns out this is much more comfortable, easyer to put in , and same price point. - Dr was willing to get trial lenses for my old Acuvue just in case but turns out I stuck with the new ones - I was in the mode to just get my perscription and take it to Costco which I usually do to use the VSP insurance and not get ripped off at the optometrist office. However I'm glad I mentioned it to the technician Damien and he patienly reviewed benefits, and said they'd match contact prices so there wasn't a reason to go elsewhere. I gave it a try and the glasses pricing was negligible after my VSP benefits, and they did match contact pricing. So in the end I got much better service in a nice local establishment w/o having to fight the crowd at Costco. - They were able to electronically submit my info to the DMV to allow me to renew my license online - my old optemetrist wasn't plugged into the DMV system in that way. Neutral: I got a confirmation call day before which is fine but it said if I don't call back my appt would be cancelled. This was a little unsettling as I'm busy at work during the day and often don't get my personal voicemails during work hours. Luckily I did confirm, but this was a pain point of their pratice I've seen in other reviews Bad: Nothing really. My visit was February 28 2026, I called again on March 25th for a refund for a bad prescription. I have poor eyesight so Ive needed glasses to function since childhood, I've had countless eye exams and glasses, but this is my first time receiving a faulty prescription. I had an extremely unhelpful experience with customer service throughout the office from receptionist Jennifer, to eyewear consultant Adrian and finally to the rude manager, sumiya. On Feb 28th after breaking my most updated glasses with a prescription I couldn't get access to, I needed an eye exam asap. I had backup glasses from 2021 but because they were so old I felt it best I get my prescription updated for 2026. so I decided to go to myeyedr for a same day eye exam. (Feb 28) This was the only location available and I ventured the two hour round trip because I needed to order new glasses asap. I was able to schedule online immediately but was automatically cancelled bc they no longer accepted my insurance (Medicaid), I did call to reschedule & confirmed the out of pocket price, $99. They put my card on file as well but I paid cash. This wasn't a problem for me, and I received two pieces of paper as a receipt. The eye exam itself was extremely quick with doctor ramtin nassehi, one of the fastest and least extensive I've had, and I've worn glasses from ages 7-29. I didn't take it as a negative, they are a chain of course. but I did have some worries over how the numbers updated. However I chose to trust the prescription. Nowhere on the receipts was a disclaimer that I had 30 days to dispute, however I was told this is their policy by manager sumiya. who implied to me many times during our conversation that I was mistaken for not notifying them sooner over their mistake. because I was not interested in any of the frames at myeyedr, I used the prescription from Feb 28th to purchase two pairs of glasses, I used overnight glasses and glasses USA. As is typical, it took a couple of weeks for the frames to arrive and both came to me completely blurry, I was not even comfortable to drive in them. The obvious conclusion is that the prescription was incorrect and that is why I was looking for a refund from myeyedr. The next available day I had to call was March 25th, (today) where no one in the office was able to offer me a refund of what I spent, $99 on the faulty prescription. Side note: I was still using glasses from 2021 and felt confident enough in my sight to order two more pairs with that prescription. I have been using them and they do not give me a headache, interfere with my work or ability to drive unlike the pairs I received with the 2026 myeyedr prescription. After speaking to the receptionist, and eyewear consultant Adrian, I was connected to Manager sumiya who implied to me that I was mistaken on multiple accounts, she said I should not have ordered a second pair with the incorrect prescription (I ordered from the two websites within the same day), and that I should not have ordered new glasses with an outdated prescription ( I reminded her that I need to see to drive and work. I will take whatever works) I was offered an eye re-check and to bring in the faulty glasses that I got from the websites to cross check for mistakes. This location is a two hour round trip from me and I still need to make the return with the physical glasses so I wasn't interested in going there. Manager Sumiya eventually offered me the option to go to a more convenient location by notifying that location's manager, however I didn't really see the point. I have a prescription and frames that work for me. I don't feel the need to engage in a drawn out possible solution if I've already found one. Especially since they've lost my trust, and have exhausted my patience. I found manager sumiya to blame me for their mistake on multiple occasions, and the solutions I was offered gave me little comfort in their ability to rectify it. she even told me doctors are humans and make mistakes and that I may be wrong about my hunch that the prescription was weaker, saying maybe my eyes got "better". While both could be true, in my case i found it irritating as i was being verbally dismissed. In general I found the manager sumiya to be accusatory. The issue was not resolved as she told me she would give me a call back after speaking to her managers. From a national chain, I don't think a $99 refund is a hefty ask (I even mentioned concedeing to a partial refund) All in all, I'd avoid this place and probably myeyedr in general and go somewhere with quality reviews and clear policy. read more

On May 2, 2025 I ordered update lenses for my eyeglasses at the Gaithersburg, Kentland store. I left them my own frame to put the lenses in. Paid with my insurance. They told me to come back a week later. Pretty simple, right? I returned on the date they said the lenses were supposed to be ready, and they said it wasn't ready, ok fine. I returned again a few days later, and they said that the company cutting the lenses "made a mistake and cut the lenses for the size of my old glasses." Fast forward May 14, I got an email stating it was going t be ready, but again, not ready! Not sure if its a "delay in delivery" out of the factory, but they will text me. This is incompetence to have the lenses cut to a frame that does not fit, especially when I already gave them the frame. I changed to this Gaithersburg store as I thought it would be better, it was closer to home than the other store I used to go to, and better parking (a plus). This is not the first time I had problems with MyEyeDr. A couple years ago at their Rockville store, where I usually went --- they actually LOST frames I gave them, and same thing happened -- weeks went by and finally they admitted they lost the frame! Just couldn't find it. So, they had to give me a frame for free that I chose, comparable to what I gave them. Not sure if they are hiring young kids to work and not paying attention, or dont care, but over 2 weeks waiting for a simple lens that already has a frame is unacceptable. They are very good with appointment setting, taking your order and getting your credit card, but not good with follow up customer service. I already got charged $400 on my credit card, and no delivery yet. The doctors are good, but front desk and staff are not -- only nice up to the point of getting your credit card. Bad. read more

Dr. Thomas is a great. He's been there for a while, is highly skilled and personable. The gentleman selling glasses is great. However, the front desk staff here are horrible at maintaining appointments and will attempt to gas-light clients. The way they choose to handle the booking system isn't logical. I literally got there the day of and they told me my appointment was cancelled and given to another person because I "booked online and didn't confirm it by phone". I had no texts to confirm or be cancelled. No emails, zero notification of the "confirm or be cancelled policy". The young lady said that she called me twice and left a "personalized" voicemail. I literally showed them my voicemail box where I had two automated messages (none from a human) from a NC number saying "this is an appointment REMINDER; if you need to reschedule your appointment call to reschedule." I played the voicemail on speaker and showed them all of my voicemails. The answer I got after I had offered suggestions was "Well, lots of people kept making appointments online from fake accounts and my dental office makes people confirm by phone". Um...what? I'm positive that office has to have a disclosure. Come on guys, you should know the wording of the automated voicemails being left use "appointment reminder; call in to reschedule" and take accountability for the miscommunication. Furthermore, what's the point of online booking if you still have to call in to confirm you're a human? Gentle suggestion: take away online booking and make people call in to schedule their appointments -or- make people put a card on file and implement a no show fee -or- make people answer one of those picture grids with the bicycles to prove they're not a robot. Have there be a pop-up disclosure--**at the time of booking*---that any online appointments not confirmed by phone within 24 hours will be cancelled automatically. There are a million and one ways to fix this to help make the process smoother for patients who have been coming here for years. Makes zero sense to penalize the people who take time to actually show up for their appointments. The result of the front desk staff not being able to figure these things out is that the customers get poor service and the Doctor becomes double booked. Something needs to be fixed. read more

My eyes have given me 38 years of solid service, but a few weeks ago I decided it might be worth giving them a check up all the same. This location is close to me and seemed easy to book. I was greeted pleasantly and attended to in a timely fashion. However, the best part of the experience was Dr. Daniel Thomas. He was welcoming and very friendly. He went through a wide variety of health related questions with me and was very throughout. The experience gave me a lot of confidence in his competence. I have been with this branch for NUMEROUS years, simply because of great, quality care from the optometrists (like Dr. Thomas and those before him) and convenience of having all 5 in my family at 1 practice that's close to where we live. And that's where it ends. There is a lot of turnover with rest of the staff--managers, receptionists, schedulers, and eye "specialists" (those that fit you with frames. I have had problems with the order in which they bring you back to be seen by the optometrist (I arrived EARLY to my scheduled appointment, but a walk in was seen before me), problems with contacts taking FOREVER to arrive, ordering of wrong frames and lens prescriptions, missing orders, miscommunication (records showing orders not filled and orders that were shown as delivered when they weren't), etc. The management is a mess there! And the eye specialist? The latest batch of employees gave me NO assistance in finding frames. When I finally did find a couple of frames, I asked the employee if she could record the model # in my records, because I wanted to think about it for a day or 2 before purchasing. When I went back to this branch, there was no record and she wasn't working there the day I went back. So, the only reason I even gave them 2 stars was for the optometrists and they do work at getting the best deal for our glasses or contacts read more

This is actually my first Yelp review, ever. I went here for an eye appointment yesterday, expecting just a regular, superficial visit. Boy, was I wrong! When I arrived, one of the techs (I regret that I didn't get his name) greeted me with the warmest "Hello!". In just a couple minutes, he led me to a room to take preliminary tests on my eyes. He explained the entire process, and was very quick and knowledgeable, while still exuding a friendly disposition. Then, I met with Dr. Thomas. Not only is he a knowledgeable optometrist, but he's also one of the kindest doctors I've ever encountered. I felt genuinely cared for. After examining my eyes, he answered all of my questions, and he provided so many different options for me, at the same time, being honest with how much each option would be. I have to admit that I always had issues with finding the perfect brand of contact lenses. It's been ongoing for a few years, and none of the other optometrists I saw helped me. Dr. Thomas, on the other hand, had me try on four different brands, and evaluated how each fit my eyes. No one had ever gone so above and beyond for me, like he did. He was super patient with me, never rushed me, and assured me that he will be there until I find the right ones. How incredible is that! After the exam, he guided me to Irena who helped with the final details of my visit. Let me tell you, Irena is wonderful, and I wish she will always be in my life! She took the time to calculate and break down each option, to see what my insurance covers, and how much I'll need to pay out-of-pocket. She, too, was very patient. If she didn't understand something, she would ask one of her colleagues, instead of brushing it off like others have done in the past. Everything she did, she kept my budget in mind, while also making sure that I'm comfortable with my new contacts. There were a number of times when I didn't think my eyes were adjusting well. She would, then, give me different contacts to try on, and ask Dr. Thomas to re-evaluate my eyes. After I thought I found the perfect brand, Irena started the whole insurance process over again, which is already time-consuming. Not wanting to waste any more of her time, I thought that would be the end of it. But then, she offered to help me find eye glasses for me. Oh my goodness, I could have cried, I was so thankful. She had me try on probably 20 different ones, and gave me honest opinions on how I looked. One of her colleagues (I'm guessing she was one of the managers?) was also happy to give me second opinions. Of course, with their help, I found a pair that I fell in love with! In total, I spent about 2.5 hours here, and not once did I feel rushed or unwanted. Additionally, even though there were other customers/patients around, Dr. Thomas and Irena took all the time that was necessary to give me what my eyes needed. I was told I would pay one amount, but after my doctor checked my eyes, they wrote me a bill twice the amount they told me over the phone. I've been wearing glasses since the age of 9. Let's just say it's been quite awhile so I'm not a stranger to going to the eye doctor. I've been to all of the big brand stores and always felt they rushed and were not very customer friendly until we came here to MyeyeDr. The first time we came was last year and I remember thinking how friendly the eye doctor Dr.Thomas was. My girls also commented on how he asked them real questions and took his time to answer any of their questions. I knew we had found the right place. So here we are back a year later this time during Covid and once again we're highly impressed. They follow all guidelines and made us feel very safe. First they ask you to call when you come and then they take your temperature once inside. After that they ask you to wear a new mask provided by them and sanitize your hands. Every employee including the doctor was wearing a mask. We waited less then five minutes to see Dr. Thomas who was awesome just like one year before. Once we were done Nelson who works up front helped me figure out what my insurance would cover and really took his time to help me understand what we could do with both of my girls concerning eyeglasses and contacts. Dr. Thomas was very friendly, engaging and one of the nicest optometrists I've seen. I've been wearing the same colored contacts brand and style for 15+ years. Dr. Thomas suggested a newer style and Kenny was very patient and helpful while I tested a few pairs. I decided to give them a try. The suggestion was great, but I did not end up liking them as much as I did my old ones. The manager Sid honored an exchange for me even though I had already worn a pair from the box. Made an appointment, and there was limited wait time to get started with my exam. Staff was friendly, and the optometrist was social and engaging. The optician was also helpful, we quickly made selections, ran insurance, and the entire process from entering the location to leaving was under 45 minutes, and my glasses were ready within 5 days, so all in all, I was very pleased with the experience. My issue is when I got my glasses back. My prescription didn't seem accurate. Text is not sharp and clear as when I typically get a new prescription. It became noticeable when I started driving and have to get right up under a sign to read the words. I called them back up and they were able to quickly set up an appointment to come back in the following week. When I went there, the optometrist did another exam, and said everything was fine. I explained to him, that I was not happy with the prescription, because I still couldn't see as clearly as I expected. He suggested that perhaps I needed progressive lenses. I think this was the moment, I started to get a bit upset. Because if he actually believed I needed progressive lenses, why would they not have been suggested at my initial exam? I told him, I didn't want progressive lenses, but I would like a different prescription. I told him, that while he was doing the exam, there were several lenses he placed over my eyes, that were perfectly sharp and clear for me, I wanted to be able to see the way I did with those lenses. He told me that they were the same as my glasses (all of them??), and that the reason why my vision wasn't as sharp, is my overuse of the computer at work. Granted, I am not denying the science behind his explanation, and that after using the computer my vision might not be as sharp. But we're sitting in his office as 10am on a Saturday and I still cant see through my glasses, and have perfect vision using the lenses in your machine. I made a final plea, that, while all that may be well and dandy, I am not satisfied with the current prescription in my glasses, and I would like him to adjust the prescription. He then suggested, maybe I might want to change the material of the lens instead. I gave in at this point, thanked him, and left. I spent money on glasses that are of no use to me, and will need to go and do a new exam somewhere else. I have never had such a poor experience at an eye doctor's office as I did here. First, the receptionist/assistant looked like she was 16 years old and was dressed in a tight club-like tube dress, but I did try to look past her unprofessional attire. Then the doctor did a quick test, like literally rushed through the entire eye exam. My vision changed just a haired and she insisted that I get a new prescription. I consulted other eye doctors and they all state that if the change is very minor, a new prescription isn't necessary because your vision constantly fluctuates a hair every day based on circumstances. Clearly, she just wanted my money. I was foolish and placed the order anyways. Then I sat with another assistant who got me fitted for my new prescription. He asked me what kind of lenses I wanted and I stated "the same I have now" (there are different glair types). He kept beating around the bush trying to up sell me on better lenses when I kept insisting "I just want that I have now!" Finally another assistant jumped in, looked at my current lenses, and told the assistance I was dealing with, what type of lenses I currently had and to order those kinds. Then I left and they assured me I would receive a call when my new lenses came in. About a month later I hadn't heard from them so I decided to give them a call. They stated my lenses came in 3 weeks ago! I asked if anyone was going to call me and they stated "we did, and left you a message." I never received such a thing and they even confirmed my cell phone number. I asked "you never thought to try and call back after 3 weeks passed" and the woman had no response. I have never dealt with an eye doctor's office, or any doctor's office, that was so unprofessional and had this poor of service. If you want a GOOD eye doctor and an experience you are comfortable with, I wouldn't recommend this eye doctors office. read more

The only reason My Eye Doctor gets 3 stars is because one of the employees Stephanie is super helpful, personable and all-around great. I'm not crazy about any other employee as they seem to always try to subtly pressure you into getting glasses. They push particularly hard if you ask to just have you prescription from your eye appointment because they know you're going to buy your glasses somewhere else. Although I had some reservations before my appointment, I had a very good experience here. I went here for an eye exam for new glasses shortly after Christmas. The eye doctor (I'm not 100% sure of her name, but I think it might have been Dr. Patel?) saw me very quickly. She did things in an almost rushed manner. I was concerned that she wouldn't get my prescription right because of how fast she saw me. Then I browsed through the frames they had and ended up finding 6 or 7 that I liked. Stephanie, who is one of the staff members there, helped me pick out the best frames for my face. I liked that she was honest about what didn't look good on my face. She also didn't try to hustle me for more money. In fact, when I told her that I wanted polycarbonate and anti-glare lenses, she told me about a deal that was going on that was far better than the coupon I had with me. The cost of the glasses with the fancy lens should have been over $400. My coupon would have saved me about $100 dollars. With Stephanie's deal, I ended up paying $149 for my glasses. She also included a warranty for the glasses and had them shipped to me (for free!) where I live in New Jersey, since I had told her I was in MD only short-term, visiting my parents for the holidays. When I got the glasses, they came with a bottle of lens cleaning solution (the kind for glasses and not for contacts, obviously). I was very happy with the style and shape of my glasses. After quite a few poor experiences at MyEyeDr in different locations I decided to give this location in the Kentlands a try hoping they would be different. I cannot talk more highly of my experience here. The staff and Dr we're all extremely friendly and welcoming. They made sure I was getting the best deal I could and provided exemplary customer service. I will be returning to them for all future eye appointments. read more

This appointment was actually for my 86 year old mother who has been in desperate need of a new set of glasses. Her last pair of glasses were 30 years old. Several years ago she had been to an optometrist and the visit didn't go well at all. My mother left without getting glasses and in the process became very fearful of the entire eye exam process. Eventually, her 30 year old glasses became useless so she was highly motivated to see an optometrist and get a new pair of glasses. We met with Dr. Thomas at 4:45 pm on the day before Thanksgiving holiday. My mother immediately started experiencing anxiety about the visit when she entered the office. However, Dr. Thomas did an amazing job making my mother feel at ease. He was patient and kind every step of the way. The office officially closed at 6pm but we didn't leave until 6:45 pm because the office team was committed to helping my mother get the glasses she needed. read more

After using this place for 4 family members over the past 6 years, I just have to say go somewhere, any where else! I have spent thousands here and I have had a problem with 50% of our orders. Just prior to my latest fiasco, they ordered me Rayban sunglasses - wrong lenses and wrong color. I paid over $450 and they refused to replace. They said "next time" I come in for an update, they'll do it then. It was summer, I needed the sunglasses. My "next time" I stopped in just under a year and the manager whose business card I had with a note on it, was gone and they couldn't honor the request - even though the comments where in the file. Next, I visited in December 2019, was given a new prescription and ordered glasses. They came in wrong - the pupil distance was entered incorrectly by staff. I returned, they figured out the mistake. I left the glasses with them. The staff held onto my glasses for over 3 weeks and forgot to replace the lenses. I finally get the 2nd pair and still a problem. After arguing to be re-seen by the doctor, I get an entirely "updated" and "weaker" prescription. Somehow, my entire prescription was wrong except the pupil distance. Hmmm. They have never apologized. I spoke to the manager by phone and when I said I was coming to the store to show him, he left on a break when I walked in and didn't return for at least an hour. How do I know. I waited for an hour. I waited til after closing time. Finally I left and I saw him re-enter as I drove off and lock the door! They did try to up sell me again to make up for their errors - wanted to charge me an additional $150 for actually inferior lenses. They are super scammers when it comes to their products too. They always say "let me get you the best deal" yet they are actually more expensive than every other place. Do yourself a huge favor and don't go here. read more

I have been going to this location for a few years and while previously they've been able to provide decent service, this year they have been horrendous!! I went in for an eye exam at the end of last year so I could get my contact prescription updated and place a new order for contacts. The doctor rushes through my exam and completely forgets to give me a lasik consultant as I asked and then passes me off to his front desk. They sit me down and give me trial lenses to use for a week before I place a full order. I use the trial lenses while I'm traveling for work that week and quickly realize my vision seems extremely off. When I return from my trip I go back into the office to let them know the fit for the brand they gave me doesn't work for me only to discover the trial lenses they gave me were the WRONG PRESCRIPTION! I demand to speak to the doctor and ask him to give me another exam because even the prescription he has written down (which is still not the one I had tried out) seems to be different than what I've been wearing for the past few years. After performing a second exam he discovers I was correct, he had also captured my prescription incorrectly during my first exam. He gives me another set of contacts to use while I wait on the other two brands to come in that he wants me to try. I get a text letting me know one brand has arrived and the other should be there by Monday. It is now Tuesday and I just called to ask when the other brand would be arriving so I can make a decision on which brand I want to place a full order for. Whoever answered the phone rudely keeps repeating to me that it might come in by the end of the week. That makes two weeks since they supposedly placed the order and a month since I first came in to get my eye exam!! I tell her I am about to run out of contacts and I want to know what they plan to do to help. After explaining this to her twice she says the tracking number shows it would be in tomorrow. Two things 1. If what she is saying is true than why the HELL couldnt she look that information up from the beginning???! Or 2. She's lying and she just wanted to get me off of the phone. Either way, I strongly advise anyone from ever stepping foot into this place! The doctor and his entire staff are incompetent!!!! read more
