I've never had this problem elsewhere, including getting pupillary distance or measurements that would allow me to get glasses elsewhere if I want. It's petty. Also much more expensive than some other places that make equally good lenses with good frame choices, and they don;t take insurance which is of course their prerogative. I hope to follow the optometrist elsewhere when they leave.

He totally SCREWED UP my eye exam (how hard is that??) and missed diagnosed my astigmatism by TWO POINTS! And they couldn't get one of their machines to work. Plus he said such a big change was very unusual and it might be corneal disease and sent me MERSI in Waltham for another exam and more $$$. All they wanted to do there was talk about surgery for my cataracts (which is not needed) Maybe Patel gets a kickback? So when I got my glasses, my vision was totally distorted and I was dizzy. So I finally went to a real optician at Newton Wellesley Eye Associates, they confirmed I actually had very little change in my RX and fortunately, the great folks at Focal Point in Newton changed to the correct RX without any charge. Pearle Vision was a DISASTER.

I then took the glasses to Peak Vision Care in Newtonville where I had bought reading glasses before. The gentleman there looked at them and said he would try to fix them. Unfortunately I did not read the reviews beforehand and it was too late afterwards when I realized that Dr. Cheng and the assistant had completely cheated me! (I saw the claims form online several months later that they had double charged/collected their fees from me and the insurance company. It was for the frames and the contact lens fitting/order.) In addition, the vision prescription for the frames were way too strong and I still can't wear them without getting a headache. I will never come back here and be warned to future patients. Dr. Cheng only cares about collecting her pay, and if she can get away with it double the pay/excess fees...

I called to get the price of a contact lens exam, which isn't covered by my insurance. I was quoted…read more$80. They charged me over $132. I said that when I called I was quoted $80, but they didn't care. They told me that contact lens exams start at $80 and said she should have told me that. Whose fault is that? But I'll take that up with the AG's office. I also had a regular eye exam, which was covered by my insurance. When I looked at the prices of the frames, most were between $550 and $750, and that was without the lenses with all the special coatings they were pushing. Then you have to wait after picking out frames because there's only one person that handles the ordering. When it was my turn, she made the comment that she really liked my frames. I said, "Good, put lenses in these frames" and I took the glasses off and handed them to her. (I prescription shades in the car.) The frames I was wearing were much nicer than any that they had. And my glasses only cost me $325 INCLUDING LENSES at Waverly Eye Care in Belmont. I would have gone to Belmont, where they only charge 50 bucks for a contact lens exam, but it was toward the end of the year and they didn't have any appointments before my benefits would expire. (My bad.) I should have known when MyEyeDr was the only outfit that had plenty of appointment times available. It's because they're so wildly overpriced, deceptive, and upsell driven. In addition to all that, the trial contact lenses that they gave me had expired over 7 months prior to my appointment in December, 2025. Is that even legal?

The attitude I got left me feeling like I wasn't welcome. They let me know that they don't adjust Warby Parker without charging me a fee and couldn't confirm they wouldn't break them. They should note that many people cannot afford the cost of many eyeglasses (they charge hundreds of dollars that aren't always reimbursed) and Warby Parker offers low cost glasses. Adjusting them would take them just a few minutes and help customers feel supported. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed.

Not a full break but enough that a remedy is required as we are traveling 10 more days. That's the back story... The fix is coming from my new relationship with Needham eye associates and in particular Ilana! She helped trouble shoot, ordered frames and even helped to work within a tight time frame! She is the most pleasant person and I certainly hope that she is recognized for her willingness to go above and beyond! I am visiting local family and am thrilled to have made this association! He is a bit old-school and does several things the same way he did years ago, including not accepting VSP. However, I soon realized VSP has nothing on this guy's insanely low prices. Dr. Harvey Leavitt is an older gentleman who seems to be the only one running the show here. All appointment making and information-taking is done slowly by pencil, and the place has the feel of a barbershop meets water-war era LA private eye office. After waiting five minutes while the doctor described a pair of glasses over the phone to a customer, there was an oddly direct line of questioning that honed in on where exactly I wanted to purchase my contact lenses. Online is where I told him I wanted to purchase them. So he said he wouldn't give me an eye exam. Because of "certain things consumers don't know" and "attorney" and grumble grumble. That was that, and he tore up the sheet that he been writing my information down on. So I left. It was an oddly unceremonious end to the exam before I could actually even make it into the old-timey-looking back exam room. Dr. Leavitt didn't seem to mind losing my low-margin business, and I was quite happy to get out of there and not have to follow through with what most certainly would have been an interesting eye exam. The guy is clearly marching to the beat of his own dusty drum, and the place seems weirdly outdated for modern life and invites equal parts bemusement and discomfort. And this is coming from someone who grew up in a backwater rural area full of these kinds of places. TL:DR If you're hoping to get a contact lens prescription so you can order them online, save yourself some time and go elsewhere. In fact, just go elsewhere in general. I would not be surprised to hear about this guy in the news at some point.
