This is the worst optometrist I've ever been to. They could not get my prescription right for both reading and distance. They told me my eyes needed time to adjust? I've had glasses for almost all of my adult life and ever had an optometrist say that to me--also never once had an issue with the strength of my prescription at any other place. I went back for two follow up appointments to try to get this corrected. One set of lenses was adjusted, but I still cannot see clearly out of them. The glasses are also crooked even after that was "fixed". The other lenses were never adjusted. Then they tried to charge me $145 for one of the follow up appointments. I didn't pay and they let that go, so at least there's that. But I'm still out of a lot of money for useless glasses. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The front desk staff receptionist is rude and sarcastic. Unhelpful and has made errors for the past 2 exams, with finding my account and my verifying my insurance information. Has gone so far as blaming me for not finding my insurance information (because I booked via online portal) and accusing me of giving her the wrong insurance company. Frustrating experience 2 years in a row with her. Even when a co worker pointed out her error in searching my ins. info, and asked if she was going to fix it in system..she replied what is there to fix? Dr. Strebig is amazing however,, so I tolerate the front desk staff ! read more

This place is has fallen short of good customer service in every interaction I've had with them. They're trying to shift most scheduling/prescription/billing services online. This makes for big gaps in customer service as the online services are not intuitive. The ladies who answer the phone are condescending. I come from a small doctors office where people would help you graciously in any way they could with a good attitude. I was forced to come here because of my employers benefits package and it's an awful change. read more

Unfortunately after confirming my appointment 2 times through their Texting APP ... They cancelled my appointment at 9 am ( my appointment was 9:20) the day of my appointment! I actually arrived in their office at 9 am and was told that my appointment was canceled...very upsetting after driving 40+ minutes to get there! read more

After going to a reputable private eye doctor for years, we were faced with insurance not being accepted there when we changed employment. The whole exam would be out of pocket with a 50% discount on frames. We have BCBS but the practice didn't cover our particular coverage. Our insurance company recommended MyEyeDr. When I walked into the Southbury office I overheard the receptionist apologizing to someone on the phone. That was my hint that I should have turned around. Dr. Filchak sold his business/patients to MyEyeDr. Now it is like a revolving door of patients. Within 10 minutes you are given an eye examine, then quickly escorted to the reception area again. Their intent is to assign you to a sales rep. to pick out frames. This is where you spend most of your money and time. The rep didn't have my order correct, stating I wanted distance glasses instead of reading. I kept my frames and just ordered new lens. After 2 weeks, I received a phone call apologizing that my reading glasses were listed as progressives. They blamed the error on bringing in a sub from another location that wasn't familiar with the office... not acceptable. They offered to put a rush on the lens. It's still been a week on top of the 2 weeks when I was supposed to have picked up my glasses. It's a shame that a reputable eye doctor sold out to this type of practice so he can wind down, eventually retire and collect a nice paycheck. Not for me! read more

Since moving to CT from NY last year, I had my first examination at myeyeDr. in Southbury at 100 Main Street N. today. The reception area & examination rooms were immaculate. From the moment I entered I was treated with an extremely friendly staff. I was called in for my examination timely & first met with the doctor's assistant. She was friendly, reassuring & kind. She examined me thoroughly. I was thirsty & she came in with bottled water for me. She put me at ease & was very professional. The examining machines were all modern. I met with Dr. Amara Akbar. She was kind, professional did an extremely thorough examination. I had some issues, but she put me at ease & explained everything to the best of my knowledge. I then met with a very friendly staff member who helped me pick out my frames. All in all it was a very good experience. I recommend them in the highest regard! read more

The eyeglasses I bought here are expensive and terrible. I can't wear the sunglasses because they fall off; I really need to use them. One other pair has been repaired but became too big also and fall off. My lens on the third pair popped off. I paid at least $700 for each pair. I have never had problems with eyeglasses when I get them at BJ's or Costco. I'm very disappointed. The doctor also said my son didn't need glasses and he has been seen for his eyes since he was 4 weeks old. I'm very unhappy with this place and need new glasses but I won't be going back. I wasted my time and money. I will go and get a copy of my prescription. They couldn't do anything to improve or fix the frames. Be careful. read more

I've been to this location several times before the staff this time was much better than before. A couple years ago they chased me into the parking lot for a 20 dollar copay and then the front staff had to apologize. The doctors here rush through the exam and never explain anything to you about the prescription itself or what they are doing. I feel like I always have to ask them how my prescription has changed. They also changed their whole eye exam process as now its on a machine. They are nice people but they could be better health care providers. read more

I am writing this review for the store in Newtown CT. Please choose another provider to get your tests and glasses. I went to the newly opened Newtown location against my wife's advise and boy am I sorry. The store has tons of people who seemingly work there, but they talk amongst themselves as customers are awaiting service. I asked the clerk to show me sturdy glasses, since I abuse mine they break often. I picked one that was suggested for durability and was told that the single focus lenses would take no more than 2 weeks to arrive. 3 weeks later I heard nothing back and stopped in to check. Waited around for 15 minutes while employees whispered to themselves. The clerk approached the wrong person with my bad news that my sturdy glasses have broke in shipping and it would be another week. The optometrist is good but he won't address the issues with the office crews. They are terrible, promise to call back with an update, never call back. I've to chase them down for more than two months to get my family's prescriptions to order contact lenses. Their price is higher than anyone selling online. I will never go back again. read more
