Our puzzle master, Jamie, did a great job of explaining the process before we got started, and I do appreciate that the door is unlocked so you can come and go as needed (didn't have to, but I remember when that wasn't the case!). We did the Witch's Cauldron, which was a really fun room to work with. Of course without giving anything away, everything was pretty clear in terms of what was next, and clues came way in handy when we asked for them, which was easily done by just saying so while looking at a camera. I think this was their newest room, but the first one I'd been to. I thought it was really well done, and everyone was engaged throughout. I especially prefer the rooms where there's a lot that needs to be done, so people can split up doing stuff rather than everyone crowding around one puzzle. I'd love to try another room there sometime!

The rooms are $32 per person (no discounts for children or weekday pricing), and with tax the total price for the three of us was $102.36. David was our game master and did a great job of explaining everything to us before we started and quickly feeding us clues during the game when we asked. We did the Egyptian Tomb: Imhotep's Curse because it felt the most like we were in Indiana Jones. I wish we had known there were actually two rooms, so that I might have budgeted my time better and asked for clues a little sooner. Alas, we did not escape the room(s), but it was still a great experience and it was all very well designed. I think we are all itching to come back for redemption, so we'll definitely return and give one of the other rooms a shot.

Escape the Puzzle is an awesome escape room with seven themed rooms where you get 60 minutes to find clues, crack codes, and solve puzzles to escape in time! My friends and I did the carnival theme room which was medium level as far as difficulty goes. But I will say this is one of the harder escape rooms I've done! Thankfully we got unlimited clues (at least carnival room did, unsure if all the rooms are like that)! Something to note: if you have a physical disability, or don't like tight spaces, the carnival room may not be the best choice for you and I would speak to the owners for more details as to not spoil anything. I highly recommend bringing a variety of people as each room can fit at LEAST six players (some can fit more). And what makes this place even cooler is that the owners created the entire game themselves. Every room, puzzle, and little detail was completely designed by them. You can really tell how much thought and creativity went into the experience. Made it very personal and helps this business stand out more among the many escape rooms in the area. Perfect for friends, family, date night, or a team outing--Escape the Puzzle is the perfect indoor activity you didn't know you needed. Think you can escape?! Enter if you dare!

Tina greeted me at the door and when I told her I overpaid she did not offer to do anything. Then, after about 5 minutes in the room she pulled my daughter and her friends out because she overbooked the room. Her response: "I made a mistake, what do you want me to do about it". How about make it right? My daughter and her friends were very polite about it and moved as she demanded. The room they were put in was not prepared and they were constantly interrupted so the room could be fixed.

I went with a group of 8 (2 of whom had never been to an escape room before). My husband and I have done about 10 escape rooms, we've made it through some, not made it through some, but we always have fun. Very little fun was had here at Escapology Holmdel. The mansion themed room left me disappointed, frustrated, and with a group of friends who will probably never do another escape room night out again. The first challenge was that my group is all in their early 50s and we are all starting to need readers. We all brought them but the type on everything was so tiny and wee, and the lighting so dark, that we spent a large part of our time just actually trying to read the clues vs. solve them. I like a clue that is difficult because you have to think around corners and you get that jolt of excitement that you figured something out, not difficult because you're doing a bunch of math and you transposed a number or you have to read through tons of lines of print. We had unlimited clues but our game attendant's clues were so rarely helpful (because we were making math and reading mistakes trying to read off endless lists of numbers) that we just gave up. We took up a huge amount of time thinking we hadn't solved a puzzle, when on two separate occasions we HAD but the instructions on the math were unnecessarily confusing and the person trying to read the words we needed got ONE wrong out of like 12. 40 minutes in I was done and just wanted it to be over. I get the impression that this room is for the escape room die hards that do lots of escape rooms and Hunt a Killer, and are very familiar with all of the tricks and cryptic codes so the creators had to add in a lot of extra work to slow them down and stump them. If you are not one of those people, mind the difficulty levels. If you are not under 40, bring a magnifying glass and a headlamp.
