Luckily the bus had returned to bring passengers for the next cruise out and we were able to ride back to the airport with him. I will say the Tampa Port for Carnival S.U.C.K.S. and the cruise itself was, well, lets just say I expected everyone to have mullets and be missing the majority of their teeth. South Seas is a resort, but has many buildings that are privately owned which is how we originally began staying here via Air BNB. As a family, a trip to Captiva has been something my parents started doing when they were dating, and now it is a family tradition that is 3 decades strong. We have been keeping an eye on the progress of the island after the devastation from hurricane Ian and we were THRILLED to see the resort reopen and the island making strides to welcome folks back. Our family of 7 booked a 3 bedroom beach villa which had ocean views with a quick walk to the beach. The villa featured a master bedroom, guest bedroom with a twin bed and two bunk beds, and a loft with a queen size bed. It also had three bathrooms. There are a ton of options when it comes to room sizes and villas, but we like ocean view for the ease of going to the beach. We were in the 2600 building which is right at the entrance. The kitchen was brand new, and looked out at the living room and screened in balcony. For a group this size it is a comfortable space, and the kitchen makes it easy for you to not have to eat out every meal. I will say one piece of feedback would be to have a sheet pan and chef's knife as part of the appliances, in the past with our Air BNB there were definitely more kitchen utensils included - however I know that they are just getting back on their feet so it was totally fine. Now onto the pro reason you should stay as a resort guest - the amenities. We got to enjoy the pool with access to their restaurant and bar, as well as the shell city burger food truck on the sand. Service at every venue was amazing and everyone was so friendly. If you are not a resort guest, you cannot enjoy these amenities as the charges are directly to the room and they don't take cash/card. They currently have Red Fish Grill which is a restaurant but also poolside bar, Shell City Burgers which is a food truck, and Harborside which is a fancy steakhouse. It goes without saying vacation is all about ease and relaxation - so opting to dine on property when we didn't feel like cooking was awesome. I also enjoyed the resort gym - the equipment is phenomenal. It is also very clean. Overall, you should note that as of right now they are still working to rebuild. You should expect some construction as South Seas 2.0 is being worked on, but it is all for the best for something truly special. In the works is new hotel rooms, a water park, and a beachfront restaurant. I am so happy to see Captiva Island rebuilding and open for folks to enjoy. It is such a special and beautiful place. Thank you to South Seas for continuing to make our family vacations so special.

The front desk staff was welcoming upon check in and gave me a $6 coupon for the restaurant that I forgot to use for breakfast and you can't use it on cocktails. The rooms were sparkling clean with more than enough room for my dog's crate and my luggage. The bathrooms were bright and I liked the rainfall shower with awesome water pressure. The location made it really easy to explore the area. There was a really cute dog park only 10 minutes drive away. The water views next to the hotel were also great and nice to stroll in the evening when I arrived and the next morning. I would happily stay here with my dog again.

The sun comes in the backside of the hotel so if you've ever turn your beach lounge chair around pointing towards the canal and the Ritz-Carlton, you can full sun all day. It's fun to watch the different boats who dock in this canal go in and out. Kyle at the front desk was very nice, explained everything we needed to know about using our day pass, and got us on our way. There is a free shuttle from the hotel to the beach that's also included with the day pass, which was a nice benefit. There are towels located right before you go out to the pool area. A guest who was staying here also said you can fish right off the canal and go out on kayaks and paddle boards. The food and beverages were decent enough, and not ridiculously overpriced. The pool was a little chilly, but felt great when I needed a quick dip. Would consider staying here on vacation instead of just getting a day pass.

We also thoroughly enjoyed our shore excursions, and the embarkation and disembarkation process was surprisingly smooth and easy, making the entire experience stress-free. Lots of reading lights and plug ins for chargers. Temperature of the room fluctuates a lot- sometimes too hot and sometimes too cold. There's a thermostat but it seems I'm not really in control of it? Bathroom has separate tub and shower stall. Large counter for toiletries. The towels are super plush! Not 100% cotton but they're soft and not overwashed. Very nice. The shower needs more water pressure. Also could be a little hotter. There is a small mini fridge but I found that it does not get very cold at all. It doesn't even have a top freezer. So I'd recommend bringing a cooler. There's an ice machine down the hall which I've been using to keep my food/snacks/drinks cold, in a yeti cooler. There is a one cup keurig and they have Folgers and decaf as well as tea. I didn't use it. They don't provide bottled water for it, so bring your own or use the sink. I used the microwave; I was glad to have that. I enjoyed sitting on the couch and enjoying the view outside. The curtains are total blackout and they cover the windows completely. I love that! They also have sheer curtains to allow the sunlight but maintain privacy. THERE IS NO POOL. THERE IS NO GYM. DISREGARD PHOTOS OF THE POOL AND GYM- THEY NO LONGER EXIST. The pool area has been turned into a rooftop bar. Service up there is great. Views are nice, drinks are good. They have a decent menu- it's called perch 360. There was a one man band up there with a keyboard and saxophone. I was entertained. The lobby restaurant I did not visit but there were people having happy hour or early dinner every time I came back around 5:30-630 so it must be popular. It's called 88 keys and I heard a piano playing in there this evening. Parking out back is plentiful and free. The side lot is for the marina and you will get towed at night. It has signs that say no overnight parking. So don't make that mistake. Dedicated smoking area behind the hotel. Entrance from the parking lot in the back with keycard. They have those wheeled carts for your luggage. Elevators are key card only so this place feels safe. Anyone can go up to the rooftop bar without a key though. Desk attendants aren't that friendly- no one greets you when you come and go. They have some flyers by the elevators for local maps and tourism info. They say it's a four star hotel- yet they don't offer very much- no included happy hour or welcome beverage in the lobby, no coffee/tea in the lobby. No turn down service. No bottled water. So- really no benefit to being here v across the street. I did not see any laundry facility here. The best part about the hotel is the location. You can walk to Marion street to enjoy many good restaurants or the other direction to the tiki bar. So I would stay here again because it's nice. But I'd like to have a hotel gym or pool and better service in the lobby. Update : water and coffee available in the lobby but it's kind of later in the morning.
