It is, in fact, so much better than the second-best motel that I don't even know what the second-best motel I've been to is! Not only is the Itty Bitty Inn now a must-stay for me on my next trip up the Oregon Coast, but it is so great that it has dramatically increased the likelihood that I will be driving back up the Coast soon. I'm still shocked that the Lonely Planet guide didn't mention it. Rick (the owner) is the coolest. The first thing that he did was give my friend and I a rundown of Coos Bay hotspots. Then he showed us to our beautifully decorated and upholstered rooms - we had the two Tiki-themed rooms, each of which had too much detail to even be done justice by a picture. He proceeded to then pour us complementary beers and directed us to the outdoor patio for lounging and decompression after our trip. I felt like the King of France! I now absolutely need to stay in every one of the rooms for at least a night (there are 5 total, each with a different theme). This is no trivial feat, as apparently new complete redesigns are always in the planning stages. I can't wait to see the place next time I'm in town!!!

The rooms are clean and comfortable. The bathroom was spotless, and the shower was fantastic! The grounds are absolutely beautiful with sweeping views of the Coquille River. The grounds are surrounded with beautiful Myrtle Trees and the air is filled with the music of Canada Geese wintering over on the picturesque river. What a fantastic change from the cookie-cutter Hampton-Marriott-Hilton, boring, corporate, McHotels. We will be back!

With that amount of payment immediately, I presumed that I would be treated well, not have to call the front desk twice, who routed me to the reservation coordinator, and then another two emails to ask for details. The details, once provided, were sparse, and upon asking if I could at least book more rooms if they were available, never received a response, even though I could see that the email had been delivered and read. This was a very disappointing interaction, and in particular when it was for setting up a happy weekend. I have taken my cash to another Inn, where I have had warm customer service, time updates, details on logistics, and a helpfulness which has been stress-reducing. They have even making the effort to call other businesses on my behalf, so to say that their customer service is excellent, is an understatement.

Everything is small. The beds, the rooms, the stove, the shower, the toilet. All smaller than you are used to. Definitely not ADA accessible. - This place is old. It smells like your Great Aunt's house and you'll be checking the cupboards for Ribbon Candy. - The place is clean. Spotless. Linens were fresh and not a speck of dust or dirt anywhere. Dishes, cups, everything. Super clean. - It's not modern. At all. You'll use a real key. You'll get a handwritten receipt for your stay. The WiFi is a strange little router plugged in to a random ceiling plug. The stove is small and has coil burners. - It has great beach access. Out your back door and a few steps away. Okay, several steps but still close. - Close to the old town. You're about a 5 minute drive to the old downtown and far off the highway so there is no noise. - It's expensive. A tad uncomfortable with the price but you're paying for the beach access and view. There is a chain hotel across the street that is significantly cheaper but if you want the access, get your credit card out. Hotels / motels are limited in this town and this was the best option we saw. We will stay here again. Once you get over the "weird" of the room set up (it takes about an hour) you will really like the place.

The proximity to the beach is outstanding, the setting is relaxing, and the property has tremendous potential to provide a wonderful coastal experience. That is part of what makes this experience so disappointing. I did not want to write this review out of anger or spite. In fact, my initial goal was simply to alert management to a serious issue so it could be addressed before another guest experienced the same thing. During my stay, I discovered multiple bed bugs on the bedding. I photographed the insects, photographed where they were found, and documented the resulting bites. The issue was significant enough that we felt unsafe remaining in the room. What happened next was even more disappointing than the discovery itself. We immediately attempted to contact the hotel for assistance. We called the regular hotel phone number, called the emergency contact number posted on the office door, and sent multiple emails. Despite repeated attempts, we received no response. With no assistance available, we were forced to find alternative accommodations late at night, around 10:00 PM, incurring additional expenses, stress, disruption to our travel plans, and concern about possible exposure to our belongings. The following morning, because all of our attempts to contact management had gone unanswered, we returned to the property in person to speak with management directly. I was not looking for a confrontation. I was looking for compassion, accountability, and reassurance that the matter would be taken seriously. Instead, I left feeling dismissed, disrespected, and treated as though my concerns were an inconvenience rather than a legitimate health and safety issue. I will also note that management declined to accept responsibility for the condition of the room. While I cannot speak to when the issue originated or whether management was previously aware of it, the number of insects I discovered and documented left me deeply concerned about the extent of the problem. To management's credit, a refund was eventually issued. However, a refund does not erase the experience, the inconvenience of having to relocate late at night, the bites, the anxiety of potentially bringing bed bugs home, or the feeling that our concerns were not genuinely heard. What troubles me most is that I sincerely expressed my hope that the issue was isolated and encouraged management to thoroughly investigate it for the protection of future guests. My purpose then, and now, is not retaliation. It is concern that another family may unknowingly find themselves in the same position. I hope the hotel conducts a thorough inspection and remediation of any affected rooms. Every guest deserves a clean, safe place to sleep and a management team that responds promptly and compassionately when serious concerns arise.

Another short walk up a trail leads to the Guest Hall which is a comfy setting with an amazing view of the ocean. Here you will find a full kitchen at your disposal complete with cookware, spices, and some common items in the fridge. Share a meal in the spacious setting or out on the deck. When you head back to your cabin don't forget to check out the extensive DVD collection. We found everything from classics like "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" to popular Rom-Com and new releases. We borrowed several 80's classics that we hadn't seen in forever! The DVD collection can be found in the bathroom, which might sound weird but you will see when you get here that there is no space wasted in this thoughtful eco-friendly lodge. While in the bathroom be sure to check out the sink. Another detail of imaginative whimsy that depicts the creativity of the owner. Oh, do not forget to flip through a table book that recounts the history of WildSpring. It is a story filled with romance, dreams, and heartache that includes pictures of life realized. And, I cannot forget the attraction of the spa and gazebo! Set amidst the trees and driftwood sits an open air hot tub overlooking the tree line and ocean. The truly amazing thing is that it requires an appointment, meaning it's not overcrowded, you get the luxury of enjoying the relaxing experience sans strangers. It's a simple text to the host to check for availability for an hour soak. Other amenities are EV charging, radiant heated floors, roomy shower, a decent continental breakfast spread, and priceless peace and quiet amidst the old growth forest. The whimsy of the place comes with the decor spread through the walking paths. Hidden among ferns are sculptures, a walking labyrinth, meditation alcoves, creations of all sorts. Everywhere you look is a whimsical touch that makes you feel the great pride and artistic talents of the owner. It's awe inspiring if you take the time to appreciate it. One thing to note: not a great place to get work done, although I'm not sure why anyone would want to. There is wifi, but we found that most of the time it wasn't enough service to even send a text message. But, we were cool with that! This is a place to enjoy being unplugged. We have stayed here twice. In the same cabin, by chance, and have loved it. This last time, in October, we had the place to ourselves in the middle of a classic coastal storm. The wind howled at the Guest Hall and we stood and howled with it. We also got the privilege of thunder and lightning that rolled off the cliffs and gave a haunting view of the forest and sea. I would recommend this place as a retreat if you are looking to get away from it all. Bring a book, lie in the hammock, walk through the forested short walking trails on the property and enjoy the little sculptures and other whimsical art throughout the grounds, reserve a time to soak in the hot tub and look out at the ocean and listen to the sound of the waves. At night sit out on the deck near the hot tub and look up at the night sky- so many stars, you can see the Milky Way! As I was walking to breakfast in the morning, I was surprised to see a buck just 50 feet away from me! He looked at me and I looked at him and then he sauntered away. That was cool. We paid the extra fees so that our 2 adult teen daughters could join us, so we had 2 extra pull out twin sofas for them to sleep on. They were pretty comfy for pullout sofas! But I will comment so others know- 4 people and a golden retriever is pretty darn squishy for one cabin! It also gets expensive with the extra fees for 2 extra people and a dog! Having said that, my young adult children loved this place so it was worth the squishing. They loved that they could hang out in the guest habitat (is that the right name for it?), which was the main room where breakfast is served. They have games and chess and checkers and relaxing music playing. It's secluded and quiet and I don't think they ran into any other guests while they were there. Breakfast was a very simple offering of bread (choice of bagels, croissant, or English muffin), jam, peanut butter or Nutella, hard boiled egg, instant oatmeal packages, yogurts, juices, tea, coffee, and cereal, and some basic fruit (apples, oranges, bananas). Snacks were just microwaveable popcorn and some Hershey Kisses and little mints. I appreciated their to-go bag every morning that had protein bars, a granola bar, mandarin oranges, some chocolate, and babybel cheese. If I had to offer any suggestions, I would have loved a little more variety with the breakfast and snacks (uh-for the price that we paid . . .). Maybe some fresh muffins and pastries, and a fresh fruit salad for breakfast, maybe some fresh baked cookies for snack? I just kept looking around their nice, super organized kitchen area thinking that there must be something else to nosh on! Got a cup of tea instead. And just to share an alternate perspective, my husband felt that there was not much to do here, breakfast was too basic, and Port Orford was too quiet. He also had read all of the dog rules and felt very constrained by them and was afraid to let our dog go anywhere or do anything for fear of losing the $200 security deposit. He was super careful and we got our deposit back, but I took a star away because of the way my husband felt about the place. (Bring your girlfriends and leave the husband and dog at home?)
