11am Sunday mass at the University of Hawaii at Manoa …read more.. I usually attend church with my mom, sister, and nieces in Nu'uanu. Somehow, I didn't hear my alarm this morning and missed mass with the family. Luckily, I remembered that the Newman Center had an 11am service. I've always been curious about this place, so, it was the perfect opportunity to check it out! PARKING: usually, there is a guard at the entrances to the UH Manoa campus and an entrance fee is involved. It seems like parking is free on Sundays because the guard shack was empty! Yay! I drove along East West Road, passed the Korean Studies building, and turned right into the parking lot in front of the Newman Center. There was a young man at the door, holding a clipboard and writing down names. Later on, I found out that the typed out list was names of people who signed up online to attend mass. Yikes! I didn't know! I searched Instagram and Googled the Newman Center, but didn't see a sign up... Oops! Sorry! Well, I got in without incident. Haha! I saw blue painter's tape on the ground - in the shape of "X" - and guessed that it was for social distancing. I took a seat in the back and participated in an efficient mass. There were no "kneelers", so we stayed standing at the kneeling times. Some hymns were recited instead of sung - like The Lord's Prayer and Lamb of God. It made the entire mass end before an hour was up! It helped that Father Guerrero is a local boy and he knows that we have a lot of things to do on a Sunday! Note: Father and a Eucharistic Minister distributed Holy Communion by going from person to person I liked the open air feeling. The trade winds gently flowed through the Newman Center which enhanced the wood/natural accents and stained glass windows. There were ceiling fans which helped circulate the fresh air, too! The music was exceptional. I knew some of the songs and I wish I had the words with me (I should have looked them up on my phone). The singer turned out to be my sister's high school classmate - Camille! What a voice! The guitar player, Michael, was my high school classmate - and his wife, Tessie, was the excellent pianist! Wow!!! Small world! It must have been meant to be! This is an example of how waking up late can be made into a check mark on a bucket list item!

Father Guerro has been a huge blessing ! He has transformed the Newman Center into a Catholic…read more'ohana. Students have so many opportunities to visit and be involved in the faith. Not to mention, father serves the community. He baptized our son within a few weeks of preparation, and he is so easy to talk to. He is available to meet, responds to emails, and keeps the Newman Center open for students. I really enjoy going to Mass at the Newman Center now and try to make it to either the Newman Center or St. Pius depending on my son's sleeping and eating schedule. The Newman Center is my favorite.

Eight hours a day, five days a week, I know of employees experiencing stress and anxiety over IF they may or may not have a job the next day. My review is about a loving church with compassionate members, and the positive encouragement they bestow on others. In another church that I used to attend regularly, I've come to find that some members call themselves "Christians" but in a split second, they criticize and condemn...I did not appreciate sarcastic remarks towards my prayer request at another church. So here at Trinity, I am surrounded by true Brothers and Sisters in Christ, who worship one God, the only True King, the Prince of Peace, my Lord and Savior. Here at Trinity, they emphasize love of God, truth in full Scripture and not pieces out of context, and loving thy neighbor. I am grateful that God opened my eyes to the underlying things at another church. I prefer to spend my time and tithing in a worshipful home where members genuinely love each other and have compassion for others. When people show you their true colors, believe them. God blessed me with extended family at Trinity Missionary Baptist. I feel valued here. I am not judged here. More important than anything else, they speak truthful gospel and walk like Christ, in Jesus' Name, amen.

As far as the service as a whole, it nice but feels scattered. Either the music is out of sync or the speaker is confused on what is next or who is responsible to highlight a certain thing. They would do better to streamline everything that it flows properly because you don't want people to be so focused on all the mistakes or inconsistency that they aren't able to focus on the word of God. Like I said, overall it is a nice inviting church but the presentation needs work.

Memorial Service for my cousin's daughter, Robin Yee (granddaughter of the late Wally Yee, carnival…read moreentrepreneur)... St. Patrick Church - in Kaimuki, Honolulu, Hawaii - was the chosen site to Bless the ashes of my cousin, Robin, because she had attended the attached Elementary School and had gone to mass here with her parents and siblings. It was the best setting because St. Patrick Church is the home parish for my cousin's family. The free parking lot, historical architecture - including grand archways colorful stained glass windows, excellent acoustics (the soloist: Robin's younger sister, the readers: Robin's mom and elder sister, the pianist, and the harpist sounded heavenly), and solid marble foundation - were much appreciated! There was no air conditioning. I sat near the open doors at the back of the church. The cool April morning breeze was sufficient. I saw electric fans along the walls which are probably used in the summer. The restrooms were outside and to the left. I didn't use the facilities and didn't hear of any complaints. Father Clyde presided over the Prayer Service. He was efficient and personable. He had listened to Robin's husband's eulogy and made appropriate comments about the sweet, young couples' partnership in his Homily! I had met Father when he signed the Guest Book. He welcomed us (there were four of us at the Reception Table) and kindly asked if we needed anything. Outside, on the covered walkway, a table was set up for each guest to take a bento lunch home. The tradewinds were gentle and the sunshine was warm. It was a beautiful day at a wonderful place which held many memories for my cousin, her classmates, coworkers, friends, and family!

We sat on the pews which faced the altar. The baptism had a candle lighting that was done by the god mother of my nephew. The father read from his handbook about for the spiritual message and process. Some people were hot because there were not enough windows inside so air can come nor any electric fans. People had to use a manual fan. Anyways, Samoa church choir sang in English. I thought there was a certain dress code that people needed to follow. Some people wore jeans and slippers. Overall, there were nice stained glasses.

Since it was our first time we were given beautiful prayer beads. While we waited for service to begin, a few members approached us with heartfelt greetings. "Not too much, not too little, but just right." Children's artistic drawings of the Easter story were posted around the sanctuary. "Well done good and faithful servants. Well done." May God continue pouring blessings on your congregation, students and visitors that unifies us all in God's spirit. Mahalo

The choir sings most Sundays at the high mass at 11am. (Rosary is said at 10:30 by those wishing to attend). Of course, the parishioners are friendly, Mass is usually followed by a coffee hour, sometimes with a presentation. (There is also a shorter, low mass celebrated Sundays at 8:00am, prior to the 11:00 high mass). All are welcome at St. Mark's.

Daryl Hee explained things in a way that gave it more meaning to me. Maybe it was the way Rev. Daryl Hee played his ukulele and sang to start his sermon. Maybe it was they way he engaged the audience for a response. Maybe it was the way he used our local slang and kept things humorous. Maybe it was the depth in theology and background to this scripture. All of these communication styles from Rev. Daryl Hee resonated with me. At a time that I needed to hear this, he reminded us to meditate on God's Word and timing. We may not see it but there's purpose in our pain. God's timing is perfect, His will is perfect and His way is always best, amen. God is good. All the time. Thank you Rev. Daryl Hee :) Great job and I look forward to next week's sermon.

Friendly, welcoming congregation you feel like family Sunday school will begin again next Sunday. There are many events serving the congregation like a Craft Food Fair on September 23rd at the Church. Get homemade goodies and Chinese delicacies there AND Service Project's to help the Community like Donations for the Maui Fires or the Fund Raiser for Abused Women Shelter.Everyone is welcomed
