Went to dinner tonight with a party of 6. We all started with the chips and Guacamole. I personally loved the guacamole since no onions were in it. We all had different cocktails and all were delicious. Then our dinner was served and the chicken mole enchiladas reminded me of my dad's!! everyone loved their dinner. We all shared their 3 desserts, Churros, Flan and Dulce de Leche Cake, the Flan was our favorite! The interior was beautiful and they even had a DJ for fun music while dining. We were pretty disappointed in our experience last night. The atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful, but that's where the pros end. The service was pretty spotty and we waited a long time for our drinks. The food came out at all different times, one of our guests had her entree for a good 15 minutes before anyone else was served. I got the beef enchiladas and they were COLD, on top of that the white rice was totally undercooked (crunchy). The rest of our group seemed to have the same issues with cold food. Disappointing is an under statement. We arrived during happy hour so the only menu items available were off the very limited happy hour menu. The octopus taco was impossible to eat. Just fell apart and was soupy with bits of potato that looked like they were days old. I got 6 oysters on the half shell. I ate a couple of them and they were fine but then had a really bad one that tasted absolutely foul. The ahi tostada was just weird. The fish was fine but the sauce and tortilla didn't go together. The service was terrible. It really felt like they didn't want us there. The ambiance is nice outside with the exception of the big screen tv playing an action movie on silent just doesn't make sense. Why not something pleasant- like pictures of Mexico, if it has to be on. All around a really terrible experience. read more

Everything was perfect until the cheese enchilada with red sauce. It was NOT good. Red sauce was so weird. Revamped with a lovely decor and ambience, Nomada gave us a truly flavorful dinner experience with a few rough edges which we're confident will get ironed out in time. We loved the use of bold flavors, but the chips and salsa were highly spiced, which we loved but suspect many diners would not. The pork was truly amazing, although a little awkward to eat in a stacked bowl. The ahi crudo was delicious, but looked a little sad without a little garnish, and the serrano chilies were unbearably hot. Overall we enjoyed our meal and will be back! read more

This is my second time here. The first time I came, my husband and I only had chips, salsa, and a drink, and we thought it was lovely. We came back tonight for their happy hour, and the only real reason to come back would be the bartender, Heather. She was amazing! However, their happy hour prices are pretty steep. I think locals are looking to come to a place where they can get food and drink at a good price during happy hour. We will probably be back, but just for a drink at the bar. We had a lovely afternoon on the patio on a California 75 degree day. Abeer, the bartender served us outside on the patio . Food was good, drinks tasty and made well . Ambiance is tropical and firepits make it cozy and add to the ambience. Outdoor patio = a 10. TV 's in the bar and patio for the sports . Only ONE thing turned us off completely. The overhead music speakers are huge and LOUD. We had a hard time celebrating and talking at our table and asked several times to lower it. No one did. It got extremely loud salsa music later , outside, to the point of being BLASTING and could not hear Each other. We liked it and hope to come back , and hope the music is lowered. Sadly, this place has already gone downhill. Our first visit shortly after opening was chaotic but the food was very good. Drinks were clearly from a gun, had to send back despite asking for a skinny marg, lime juice agave and tequila. We went tonight and the food was awful. Salad was not dressed, ends of lettuce brown, carnitas was shreds of dry pork, soggy tacos with what looked like old iceberg lettuce and dried out tortillas, rice and beans which looked like they'd been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. Margs had to go back AGAIN. So very disappointing. We were really hopeful for this place but won't go back. read more

First the good: the updated decor is tasteful and bar area looks beautiful. Staff were very friendly and helpful and cocktails were yummy with good presentation. The bad: the food was disappointing. I ordered a fish taco and a carne asade taco and added beans. The fish taco was underwhelming with no real flavor, the carne asada taco was very good BUT the beans were soupy and the sauce ran onto both tacos. The beans should have been in a small dish or something as it really detracted visually and taste wise from the tacos. My friend had shrimp enchiladas and said they were dry. Another friend ordered tres leches cake for dessert and said it was really dry, not what you would expect for that type of cake. I don't think I would go back for a meal but I think it's a fun spot of drinks and appetizers. read more

Looks like it's hit or miss... went there two weeks ago and the place was good! It was slow, but the wait staff was great and food was good. Went back tonight and the wait staff was not good. We were with our young kids, 6 and under, and time is limited. It took 25 minutes to get a drink, then the 24 oz ribeye came well done when we asked for medium rare. Kids ate their food before they got our steak right. The manager came and said it would be comped, which seemed a little much... we would expect a drink, but not a $90 steak. When the bill came it was for everything, nothing taken off. We mentioned it and the waitress went back to the manager. She told us there was confusion and the manager meant he wouldn't charge us for both steaks... Gee thanks! I'm hoping this is just some links that need to be worked out. read more

We went to this new elevated food, beautiful decorated Mexican restaurant and will make this a regular event. The espresso martini is amazing, for the NA drink Chicha Morada is outstanding and my husband loved the Caballero. We had the Queso Fundido for an appetizer which we'll order again and Chicken Mole was the best we've ever had. We went for dinner on NYE and were blown away. Margs were on point- essential for any quality Mexican spot! We also got to sample 5 different fresh salsas of varying spice levels! But the star was the flavorful and delicious meats! We sampled a bunch of tacos and got the pibil pork plate, and all were cooked to perfection and the execution and plating was well done! The ambiance was nice, the food was good. There were 4 of us. Our salads did not come at the same time. The salad for my wife and me arrived, but the salad for the couple we were with didn't arrive. After a long while, we flagged down a bus boy (the wait staff made it a point to not notice that we were trying to get their attention). Finally, our waitress arrived to ask what the problem was. We told her about the missing salads. Then she did the UNFORGIVABLE: told us BS about why the salads hadn't arrived. Finally, they were delivered....at the same time as the entrée for one of us. We told the confused and disgruntled person who delivered the salad and entrée at the same time to take the entrée back and then serve all of us our entrées at the same time, after we ate the salads. Then 2 of our entrées arrived. My wife and I waited for the other couple to get their entrées. After a longish time, we flagged down a server, who got our waitress and she finally brought the other 2 entrées. The manager came over and was told what happened. Apparently, he discussed this with the waitress. From her attitude, the message we got was that she really didn't care. Maybe that's because we were far more polite than we should have been. The check included a 3% surcharge for using a credit card. This is a BS antic, since it is rare that anyone pays in cash. I do not believe that there was any notice anywhere, and not on the menu, stating this. Good food and nice ambiance aren't enough to create a good dining experience. We live in Carlsbad, and always patronize businesses in our community when possible. For this reason, we might give Nómada another chance. We'd like nothing better than having a good Mexican restaurant nearby. Friends have asked us about how we liked Nómada. After hearing about our experience, they've crossed Nómada off their list. I have been there five times. The atmosphere is incredible. Every every staff member I have encountered has been pleasant and upbeat. The chips and salsa are the best that I have ever had and being a creature of habit I always get the tacos and they are phenomenal. When I see people complain in other reviews I feel sorry for them. They must be miserable whiny patrons that can't sit back and just can't enjoy themselves. This place is doing everything in their power to make a run at it in this tough economy and still they get jerks taking shots of them in reviews. Full disclosure I own a business in Carlsbad and I break things down and these guys are doing all the right things. We all remember the Crazy Burro as a staple of the community for years. This is not Crazy Burro with loud drunks everywhere...but these folks are incorporating live music and DJs... Regarding the pricing you pay for what you get. I just paid over four dollars for a can of Progresso soup yesterday and I didn't go to the manager and start bitching and moaning.. you pay for what you get & this place has high-quality food so don't expect Taco Bell prices.
