I was excited to try this place because I'm vegetarian & it's hard to find a lot of vegetarian friendly places. we came in at 11am on a Friday. I had the nachos and they were cold. My husband got the pesto chicken (which came with mayo- and it does not state that on the menu) they didn't remake the sandwich and just brought out two new pieces of bread. Ordered two cortaditos - and it tasted nothing like the cortaditos that I've had. Spent 40$ on a sandwich that was incorrectly labeled & cold nachos. I've been here twice, and both times I've struggled to decide between the unique & delicious sounding entrees. But both time I've been underwhelmed when the food arrived. There have not been strong, balanced flavors in any of the 3 dishes I've tried, and on the most recent visit I felt my salmon was underdone and very fishy tasting. While there, I tried the Kale Shroom Burger, and it didn't disappoint! With a house made vegan burger, garlic aioli, field greens, tomato, pickled red onions, and a side of sweet potato fries, I'm getting hungry again just writing this. Amazing! Naive is a refreshing concept for Louisville. From the restaurant itself to the paper products, Naive aims to be sustainable and eco-friendly. It's one of the only places in Louisville I have seen with a composting bin as well. On top of that the food is very unique and mostly locally sourced with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. It's nice to finally have places like this in Louisville! It is a bit pricey but I think worth it! I've been a few times and the General Tso's cauliflower is always a favorite. We got the whipped guacamole last night which was delicious but probably not the most healthy (made from cream cheese). Finally made it over to this quaint little eatery! When you arrive you place your order at the counter then find a seat. The menu is small but the portions are big! I had the Whipped Cheese and Brekkie Sandwich. Both full of flavor. After breakfast I had the Rose and Hibiscus Latte off of their winter brunch menu. It sounded exotic! It wasn't my favorite drink, but I'm glad I tried something different. The wait staff were very attentive and nice. The food is outstanding, as is their drink program. That being said, I found the service lacking. We checked in at the time of our reservation, only to find the entire restaurant packed. We were sent to the bar to wait. When we got to the bar, the server asked if we were waiting for a table, and walked away when we confirmed we were, never asking if we wanted a drink while we were there. Meanwhile, there are several now open tables covered in plates. After 15 minutes, we had drinks and were still at the bar and we were asked if we wanted to eat there. I expressed that we had, in fact, made a reservation and wanted to sit at a table so the three of us could talk. A different staffer came to us, apologized, and got us a table quickly. We shared the vegetarian tasting menu, two other dishes, and dessert. As I said, the food was amazing, everything was very thoughtfully put together and we loved the cocktails. Best sweet potato fries I've ever had! The greatest gluten free bun ever, and the chicken salad on it was spectacular! I got it dairy free, and it was delicious, but I wish there had been more of it! I sat outside in the cute patio area and enjoyed my meal with great service tending to me. All of the employees were kind, helpful, and a joy to talk to. Went here on Sunday for a dinner. We were seated quickly. The restaurant has nice and simple ambience. Our waitress Bridget was nice and explained us the menu and answered our questions. I got the Moroccan chicken, Chicken Pesto Sandwich and Whipped guacamole. The guacamole was nothing great. The plantain chips were an interesting touch but it really was average. The Moroccan chicken was scrumptious as had a very authentic taste to it. The khuskhus and tough yet complimented it very well. The Pesto Sandwich was a tad bit oily but tasty nonetheless. The chicken was soft and a delight to bite into. Overall an above average experience with some good food. The check was about $50 so it's kinda expensive but I'd say you should visit it at least once to take a break from the usual! read more

Naive wins my loyalist and will win yours as above average, locally sourced, as much organic, natural, and as vegan accommodating as possible with new American food and decent quality. Naive is table service, rotating menu, freshly made food, with full bar, great service, accommodating food and drinks service and is a good neighborhood location that is suitable for dates, meeting, friends get together, or just causal. Add to that plenty of deserts. We tried this place 3 times prior to this review. The concepts are amazing but sometime the applicability can take a hit. The curry chicken salad for example could be a 5/5 taste wise but the sandwich will fall apart and become messy due to the bread texture and the fact that it is open from both sides. The sweet potatoes are freaking good and are served with curry ketchup that I never liked until I got here. The tuna poke, was average or a little above but if you had the Limbo tuna poke, this one will not hit the spot. The orange cauliflower were tasty, can't say above or below average because they are first to be served or tried here but definitely 4/5 for those and are served with perfectly cooked green beans, whole with great texture. Lastly, we tried the shroom burger, this was a 3/5, dry, but the taste was different and not boring at all. The drink menu changes seasonally but as mentioned above the team here will accomdibate and make the best they can from what they have. I left the restaurant after my meal feeling a bit naive, did I really just blow half my pay check on a handful of plants. Ok, I exaggerated but my meal left a lot to be desired. The pros: It's a cute, modern and beautifully decorated space with a great philosophy of serving clean sustainable food. The service is friendly and attentive, though a little inexperience. The cons: The food was beautifully plated and aesthetically pleasing but its flavor missed the mark for me . My chicken was very dry and didn't have too much flavor. Same for the rice, though I do like the crunchiness. The food is also grossly overpriced, my tater tots order had a total of 4 tots for $5! My $16 trout salad had a handful of greens a small piece of fish. I left the place hungry for a burger and some fried chicken. It's perfect for hip young people who love to fill their Instagram with pretty food and decor, who has the money or at least the willingness to spend lots of it for such an experience. I was absolutely shocked by our experience having a date night dinner here. Where to start? Our server acted like we were inconveniencing him from the moment we entered the restaurant (we had a reservation btw). When we asked for food recommendations he hummed and hawed about most things on the menu - why work at a restaurant if you don't like anything on the menu or can't recommend anything with confidence. We ordered items and then he would return asking us if there was anything we needed and we hadn't even gotten the drinks or food we had already ordered! The same happened with our dessert. Ordered, he said great, and then came back, with no order, and asked us if there was anything else he could get us. The restaurant wasn't even that busy at the time so can't say it was cuz they were understaffed. I ordered another drink at one point and I don't know if he just thought I wouldn't like it or something but he legit gave an eye roll as he turned to walk away, it was unreal. (For the record I loved the drink). The food also left much to be desired. Everything lacked salt and flavor. I felt like it was a meal fit for a five year old. It was incredibly underwhelming. The kale salad I could have made at home and it would have been a million times better. The leaves were not massaged and they weren't cut for eating, it was like eating long leaves of kale spaghetti, such a weird experience. Felt like the least amount of care went into a kale salad, but yet the restaurant prides itself as being vegetable forward? You'd think their kale salad would be epic. Sadly it wasn't. The rest of the meal was bland except for the cauliflower but it was fried, what vegetable isn't yummy fried but it was nothing to write home about. Redeeming factors were the drinks (when we finally got them) and the ambiance of the restaurant. But it's not enough to have us be return customers. I regret wasting a date night and paying a babysitter to come here. Our bill was nearly $200 as we really wanted to taste many of the flavors this restaurant had to offer and it was just one disappointment after another. Overall we were very disappointed in this experience and really hoped for so much more based on the other reviews and what the website had to offer. Some recommendations would be to work with your staff to be more personable and engaging. To be more prompt with serving drinks and food and if there will be a delay either let us know or don't come back asking what else you can get us when we haven't even received the things we ordered 10 minutes prior. Also start using some salt to season your food, it was so unbelievably bland. You can use salt and still have nutritious, vegetable forward meals. read more

This place has 5-star service and food. I called in to place a takeout order, but the menu had just changed that very day, so many of the things I saw on their menu online were no longer available. The person over the phone actually texted me a photo of their brand new menu so I could look it over and decide what else looked enticing. That is top notch service. I also showed up with a food allergy question and the two chefs working in the kitchen were able to answer me directly - you can get any more assurance than that! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and I also got to try the General Tso's cauliflower. The cauliflower was indulgent without feeling unhealthy, with great sweet/acidic/salty flavors, slightly crunchy with a very thin coating of breading (or something). The pulled pork had SO MUCH pork packed in between the ciabatta bun. I would have preferred the pork to be a bit more shredded, as it was pretty messy to eat and somewhat difficult to take a clean bike without dragging a big chunk of pork out and flopping all over your chin (you can picture it, right?). The ciabatta bun was dense and chewy, the pickles and onions were salty and cut the fat of the pork well. Oh! And the sweet potato fries I got with the sandwich were great too. Just a simple sea salt seasoning made them a great complement to the meal. I didn't get to stay in and dine, but the decor outside and inside was really cool - kinda Scandinavian, bright interior with lots of light, lots of soft wood accents. Oh my goodness THIS RESTAURANT... It is so cool, so tasty, so beautiful. I'm in love and saddened that I don't live close enough to go more often. Naive has great, seasonal options for all people. They have small plates and regular size, delicious looking desserts, kombucha on tap, beer, espresso... So you could basically live here, is what I've come to. I tried the small cauliflower plate, and a large pad thai, which the pad thai was weird and not pad thai-ish, but I was so hungry that I wasn't picky. I really wanted to try the desserts they had, but spent way to much at this point, with a kombucha (lavender, I believe?) and beer for my date. This can be a casual restaurant for friends, or a nice, dimly lit date night restaurant. It's a casual walk-up and order style, which allows for room to talk intimately with whoever you're with. Or talk to yourself, whatever. I recommend trying the espresso drinks next time, because they looked so unique and use Quills coffee, so high quality. read more

I am consciously trying to reduce my reliance on meat so I was excited to find a new vegetarian dinner option. The vibe was casual and what I expected from Butchertown- hipster but trying really hard not to be. It felt more like a coffee shop than restaurant or bar. I had the halumi tacos and the beet hummus, which were both generally tasty but not at all well balanced. I found that both were overwhelmed with acid- citrus/orange in the hummus and pomegranate on the tacos. The chips that came with the hummus were freshly fried but still soggy with oil. Fortunately some bites were free from the overload but they were hard to intentionally pick out. Hopefully some tweaking can fix those issues. read more

We wanted sauvignon blanc- sold out. We wanted steak- sold out. Steak tartare- sold out. So we decided on steak, risotto, and pesto pasta. The service and ambiance was fantastic, there's no complaints there. It's a very cute restaurant with a menu that's super diverse and friendly for all kinds of diets. Why there's the low review is that I had horrible food poisoning- I ordered the tempura cauliflower and the chili linguini. My friend and I split the cauliflower which wasn't the culprit. I called this morning and told the restaurant about it as a heads-up. I got questions about whether I had an allergy and that being the culprit when that's not the case. The poisoning was horrible so I couldn't got back here even though I think it's cute and service was great. Found this little gem on Yelp and was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. I visited alone, on a Sunday Night, alone and it was super slow and I sat at the bar. Service was great, staff was personable. The Bobbing for Margarita cocktail stood out with its blend of apple butter and tequila and might be the best cocktail I've ever had. Absolutely delicious. I am a huge fan of Brussel sprouts and while these were delicious, they weren't my favorite ever (read: Butchertown Grocery holds the record for me). I ordered the lamb burger Bc the smoked goat cheese sold me. It came out super juicy but the turmeric onions I think had a little too much kick for me. If you took a train to hipster-town and got off at the intersection of fair trade and vegan-ville, Naive would be the first restaurant you would see. It would also be some of the most delicious food you would have all day. The decor and natural lighting in Naive truly gives it a delightful aesthetic. I ordered Cardi B. urrito (local farm eggs + chorizo + crispy potatoes + cashew queso + cabbage slaw + tomatillo salsa, served with a side of root vegetable hash; $13). This was actually more of a burrito bowl, so to speak... but it was remarkably good. The flavors blended perfectly, and I was hooked from the first bite. We also tried the General Tso's Cauliflower (green bean slaw + crisp kale + puffed rice; $9). It's exactly what it sounds like, and it's truly delightful. Louisville, you're truly lucky to have this little spot. Make sure you get here early as seating seemed to fill up quickly. Bring your appetite and enjoy this gem. When LovaFare closes its doors, I had a hole in my heart for a plant based restaurant. I'm not vegan, but there are times my body craves plant based foods. I saw a friend posts photos of meals they ate here, and I had to try it! I've been twice the past 2 weeks, and I plan on going again later this week! This place is big on local and fresh as possible ingredients. The menu changed slightly when I went, but the food was fantastic each time. I also appreciate that the menu shows items that can be altered to fit an array of diets. As a gluten free foodie, this is very much appreciated!! Can't wait to go again! I ordered the Nashville Hot Cauliflower which was delicious and I would definitely order again. If you order the scallops be prepared for a very small portion. Just went here for my second time, and had an even better experience than the first. The decor and atmosphere is perfect for starters. They definitely cater to a health conscious crowd or those with dietary restrictions (offer tons of gluten free, vegetarian, or vegan options). But as someone who eats EVERYTHING I've had really great food here!!! I had friends who are vegetarian come into town, and I knew this would be a perfect place to go to dinner. OH MY GOSH. The new menu is fall in your mouth! Musts are the sweet potato soup, French onion toast, and general tso's cauliflower (as a meat-eater I was admittedly skeptical and incredibly impressed). The cocktails here, both for brunch and dinner, have also been awesome. The only caveat I have is that I will NEVER be convinced that a gluten free biscuit will taste better than a regular one . Naive is one of my new favorite places in Louisville! The spot is gorgeous and the decor is lovely. We are here for dinner, so we started with the tater tot and whipped cheese appetizer and that was one of the best tots I've ever had! The whipped cheese was amazing!! For my dinner I ordered the fettuccine dish and I was pleasantly surprised. The carrot "yolk" added to the pasta was very unique and made the pasta surprisingly creamy. My husband ordered the watermelon poke plate and really enjoyed it. We also ordered a dessert which was a wine soaked pear with granola. We were very pleased with our meal!! One thing I will say is the food came out super fast, which isn't necessarily bad. However, we tried to course out our meal so some dishes had to sit on the side while we ate our small plates.
