We spent the weekend is Louisville, and found Naive so awesome upon our first visit Friday night that we went back again for dinner on Saturday. Friday we strolled in without a reservation at open with 4 people and wound up ordering 16 dishes and numerous cocktails, mostly staying in the small plates and dessert area of the menu. The crispy potatoes, the pan seared sweet potatoes and the cauliflower were all top tier. Well paired cocktails and great service really delivered a outstanding experience. So with all of the options in Louisville, we still decided to go back again Saturday night, this time with six. Same experience, same great food and service. As a Restaurant Manager myself, it was awesome to see the manager or maybe she was even the owner out and about, delivering dishes and chatting with customers. My daughter has expressed an interest in being vegan, so I did a search for the top vegan restaurants in Louisville and given the Yelp ratings for Naive, we gave it a shot. The atmosphere was so clean, fresh, and calming. We immediately wanted to stay forever. I ordered the vegan sausage scramble with sweet potato bun and my daughter ordered the shroom burger with sweet potato fries. I also grabbed a coffee with macadamia nut milk while we waited. While it took a bit longer to get the food compared to some other restaurants, we did not mind at all. We understood they were making unique items and every single thing was well worth the wait. My daughter and I ended up splitting our meals because we couldn't decide which one we liked better. The shroom burger is not something I would typically order, but the taste was out of this world. Everything put together just perfectly. We each ate a lot slower than normal because we wanted to enjoy it. We saved some room for the vegan donuts and they did not disappoint. Naive is literally every Instagram girl's dream come true. You'll know exactly what I'm talking about as soon as you walk through the door. I have been wanting to try this place for a really, really long time. I don't know what took me so long to finally get here, but I'm so glad to have finally experienced it. Although I'm not vegetarian or vegan, I still love getting to go to places that offer a lot of healthy options. Naive is this kind of place. Their menu changes by season, and it seems like they have a separate menu for brunch. I wanted to try out a couple different dishes, since their men is quite diverse, so I went with the popular General Tso's cauliflower and a breakfast taco. With both plates, I immediately recognized the amount of detail that was put into these options, which makes it much more enjoyable. I'm really not much of a cauliflower person, but I loved the "Chinese chicken" twist that they add, with a delicious flavor. It is also topped with green beans and kale. The breakfast taco was a really great option for brunch, and had A LOT added into it. It was great! On another note, Naive is probably one of the prettiest restaurants that I've walked into. Visiting Naive was a total treat! My sister recommended we try this new-ish restaurant when I came in town this week. As a vegetarian, Naive was right up my alley, but I think omnivores would like it as well. You order at the counter and get a number to bring to your table. The space inside is very modern, bright, and clean, with greenery accents- definitely 'gram worthy. There is a variety of seating options: tables, couches, and a bar where you can order alcoholic or caffeinated beverages. It was all so cute! Naive has a seasonal menu and had recently changed to their fall menu. My sis and I ordered the pad thai, farmers risotto, and general tso's cauliflower appetizer to split. Everything was so good! The pad thai was made with zoodles and the peanut sauce was especially amazing. The cauliflower was a little too fried for me, but was still good. Creativity and conscientiousness seem to cover every part of Naive -- from the interior to the drinks to the food. And I love it! Today was my second visit, and it continues to impress. On my first visit, I got the curry bowl, which was packed with flavor. Several items on the menu are vegetarian and vegan friendly. Naive promotes itself as organic and plant-based with meat options. But don't let that make you think that the food is bland. It's anything but. The curry bowl had large shrimp in it, and I loved the sauce. And then today, I mixed two smaller plate items: the tater tots and avocado toast. These sound basic, but again ... anything but. The tater tots are large by tot standards. And they're made with Kenny's smoked gouda, with house-made ketchup and a sweeter jam-like sauce on the side. Loved how cheesy these were. And then the avocado toast is on the sweeter side, with seared halumi cheese, blackberries and hibiscus honey. This was the first time that I've had halumi cheese. It fries up, almost like egg whites. My colleagues and I also shared the General Tao's Cauliflower. I got this on my first visit too and had to get it again. It's made with green bean slaw, crisp kale and puffed rice. The outside is sticky and a little sweet. It's indulgent, and I never thought I would say that about cauliflower. One more thing: I tried a few bites of the pad thai, which is made with zucchini noodles, I believe. I'm definitely getting this when I go back. Similar to the curry bowl, I loved the sauce, which incorporates pad thai's signature peanut flavor. And while you're enjoying your innovative meal, you can take in the beautiful interior, which includes a variety of seating options, a large bar in the center and a string art focal point. (I will say, though, the tiny triangle tables, which spin, are not the easiest to eat on when dining with someone. One of us had to hold the table, so that it wouldn't rotate while we were trying to cut into our food. We also had to put our drinks on an adjacent table because there was no room.) Lastly, the drinks! For those like me, who can't drink alcohol at the moment, Naive also has a "coffee bar." On my first visit, I asked the bartender to make me a fun coffee drink, and she made me a delicious mint latte. And when I can drink again, I'll definitely come back for a cocktail. Naive is all about sustainability, in how they renovated their building, their serving ware, how they handle waste and their food. I also love that they strive to farm their own food. Wow! What a surprise! I took a day off work last Friday. When I woke up, I felt like I needed to check out one of the new places that had popped up recently. As soon as I remembered Naive, I knew it was the winner. Naive serves plant-based foods with meat options. Of course, I can't live without meat but that doesn't mean I don't ever want to eat tasty veggie dishes. I believe that if there were more options like Naive that more people would give up meat or at least not eat it as much. Since day one they've touted their sustainability model. Sustainable building materials. Biodegradable paper and plastic. Only eco-friendly cleaning products. High pressured heat water system. Minimal waste which includes composting, recycling, and general waste. On their website, they throw in the line that they'd like to only throw away one bag of trash a night. It makes me wish for a board in the restaurant that says "Number of days open: XXX", "Number of trash bags used: XXX". They also have rain barrels with a planned garden in the back. Now I'm not going to sit around and act like I do everything that I can to reduce, reuse, and recycle because I'm human. Most humans waste in some way and the primary reason for my waste is the convenience. With that being said, I admire what Naive is doing. They're a business. Businesses don't have to care and yet they're usually some of the biggest offenders of waste. I have to say I don't think Naive could've picked a better location. They're close enough to Nulu to get that people traffic without being clumped into the trendy area. They're also in the neighborhood and close enough to Butchertown to get that people traffic without being clumped into that up-and-coming area. The restaurant is just the right size too. When you enter, it can be a little confusing. The first thing you see is the bar area. It made me assume that I was supposed to order at the bar. If you're also drinking, you can certainly order your food at the bar but if you're not drinking, ordering at the bar might be a little weird. When you step in the door, look to the right. There are menus on the wall with an additional place to the left for ordering your food. At first, that side of the restaurant looks like the kitchen area so I think my eyes were focused elsewhere. I like the way this place is set up. They have small tables and large tables. You can sit at the bar or they also have a commonplace away from the crowd if you're only enjoying cocktails. Cocktails, a decent spirits collection, wine, and while small, a fair amount of beer in cans or on draft. I decided to go with a cocktail on this visit. I ordered Sexy Elvis. This cocktail is described as "Peanut butter washed bourbon fit for the King" and it includes Heaven Hill + cherry + bitters + blackberry jam(given to you on a spoon). My first peanut butter cocktail was the one at Milkwood. This one adds something with the blackberry jam. Milkwood and now Naive definitely makes me want to try every peanut butter cocktail available in the world. My first bite to eat came from the tater tots. These tater tots have Kenny's smoked gouda and they come with a blueberry kombucha sauce. These aren't your normal tater tots. These are more like tater balls. They're delicious on their own but that blueberry kombucha sauce adds a new taste to them. I chose to alternate my bites with/without the sauce. At the price tag of 5 dollars, you might as well get two or three orders of these delicious things. On to the main course... the Mole Poblano Relleno! I might not ever look at Chile Relleno the same way ever again. This dish was so much better than I thought it would be. The menu says seasonal roasted vegetables so I assume that the veggies on top of this and stuffed inside might change. I'm not exactly sure what was inside the pepper. At first, I thought it was carrots but now that I think about it, I think it was some type of squash or sweet potato. It was so good, I didn't even care what I was eating. The cheese grits were a compliment without overshadowing all of the other flavors. The same with the chimichurri and mole sauce. It was just the right amount of all of it! I could literally have this dish EVERY. SINGLE. DAY! I love Naive. I want to go back and try more of their menu items but honestly, I'm not sure if I'll be able to tear myself away from that Mole Poblano Relleno dish. It really is all that and a bag of potato chips... and the dish doesn't even come with potato chips! I visited early afternoon and my only concern with this place is that it seems like a lunchtime place. Big windows. Plenty of outside light. Easy on the eyes color scheme. All of it encourages me to visit for lunch. I'll have to visit for dinner soon and see how the experience is at the hour of dusk. read more

It's light and airy, surrounded by windows for a lot of natural sunlight, a lot of hanging plants and marble/gold finishes. The menu is very inviting and a little overwhelming, and everything sounded so good it was hard to pick. I ended up getting the burger, and it was good. It came with pesto on it which I thought was interesting. It was juicy and good. There was something keeping it from being a truly great burger though. It missed a flavor element despite the way it was dressed. The fries were amazing, dipped in a stone ground honey mustard. My friend got the tempura cauliflower, which our helpful server recommended. She said they're known for their cauliflower, and my friend really liked it, so that's a good recommendation. They had a refreshing mocktail for me made of mango, lime, and agave. I hosted my wife's 50th surprise party at Naive. We had the restaurant and outdoor area to ourselves - which is something you honestly can't get at most places.
