Over the years, in the late summer months of the year, an annual booze cruise adventure takes place on the Na Hoku II. It has become a tradition for our visiting friends to board the 45ft/13m catamaran just before sunset and ride off into the saturated horizon with a drink in hand. We occasionally find ourselves on this boat 2-3 times a year as it always offers an enjoyable time no matter the season. Strong breezes, smooth sailing, stormy weather, massive waves are all environmental factors that heighten the experience, making every single event significant. Times: 4 times - 11:30AM, 1:30PM, 3:30PM, 5:30PM (sunset - our favorite cruise time). Location: Waikiki Beach, near Duke's Restaurant. Price: $40; $45 for Sunset Sail. Duration: 90 minutes Tip: Open bar and family friendly, however, the sunset cruises consist mainly of adults, typically. Our recommendation is if you're planning to have a family-oriented day, take one of the earlier tours whereas saving the sunset cruise for the rowdier crowd. Right in front of Dukes Restaurant is the meetup. You'll pay cash to one of the crew members doing the checking-in. After payment, they'll have the group you are with gather in front of the Na Hoku II to take a group photo which can be purchased at the end of the cruise. We've bought almost all our group photos; it's perfect for memories! As far as running late or last minute decisions to jump on board, the crew can be very lenient! We've had our fair share of running 10-15 minutes late and were allowed, thankfully, to board (we do not recommend coming late!). We have also had moments where as we were walking the beach, curious to know if there were seats available, booked on the spot. There are usually a few seats open, but we cannot stress enough that there is no guarantee you'll make it onboard. Our best advice is to call in at least a day or two ahead of time to guaranteed spot and arrive early. After paying, and timing the waves right to board, the fun commences immediately! The bar is open as you board (the earlier you are there, the faster access you get to the bar: arrive early!). Reminder, this is an all you can drink cruise: get your drink on - for 90 minutes! The route brings you toward the South East, cruising along the coastline of Waikiki, ending just past the famous landmark of Diamond Head Crater and back again. It never gets old for us and for the first timers, it's usually the highlight of their trip! We've had so many great times on the Na Hoku II that'll never forget. From the variety of views, hilarious crew interactions, and, of course, the endless bar, it would be a shame not to give this sunset cruise a shot. Tip: Wear slippers and bring the least amount of things. It can get very wet in certain conditions which means there's a potential of losing or even receiving water damage to your personal items. read more

Two of our friends were running really late and said he couldn't guarantee them a seat because there was a waiting list and the ship was full. We were already on the boat and finally seen them both running. Didn't think that they would let them on but they did! Parking is tough but anywhere from surf rider to outrigger should be fine. Booked the sunset cruise while visiting Waikiki. There was supposed to be a storm, but luckily the weather was pretty nice! Would have given it 5 stars but... You book the tickets and then the drinks are "free". We tipped every time we got a drink. I honestly don't mind tipping at all but the reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the bartenders would basically insist/make us tip. At the end of our boat ride- I asked for a round of shots for all of us (other people we met on the boat) and the female bartender said that they can only pour shots if we tip (the male bartender was giving us shots before, no problem). We used all of our tip money for our previous drinks and we only had a $20- we said we didn't have change so she said if we give them the $20 they will give us more drinks for the rest of our trip- we had 10 minutes left and the bartender left the bar after. They promote the boat because they say it's free drinks, etc. but it puts a bad taste in my mouth when they say they will only serve us if we tip. The ride itself was really fun, we met a lot of people, the view was nice and it was long enough to enjoy but short enough where it didn't lag. I do recommend going here but make sure you bring smaller bills to tip! read more

Boy, oh, boy! If you want to ride a Catamaran, you picked the right one. So I made a last minute decision to ride Na Hoku 2 for the sunset cruise with my lawyer/model friend, Hannah. Probably Top 3 in the best decisions I've made since living in Oahu. First of all, their selection of alcoholic beverages needs to be applauded. Solid variety. The best thing about Na Hoku 2: The Crew. Good vibes, high energy and they know how to entertain their passengers. They joked about not seeing wildlife and we ended up seeing a whale, a giant turtle and dolphins! Just about every woman on the Catamaran was snapping photos lol Watched a beautiful sunset and ended up meeting some lovely folks who graduated from Washington State. Go Cougs! This was my 2nd booze cruise with the Na Hoku team and each time, I've always had good experiences. Captain Jerry and team made each experience easy and fun. Bottomless drinks during our time and good music playing throughout. Would definitely recommend. We saw dolphins on our first trip back in December 2020 and hope to see more marine life next time. If you are prone to seasickness, make sure you do take medicine or wear the patch because the boat does get shaky time to time due to the waves. Great customer service and would recommend to have cash or the venmo mobile app on you to tip the team. Best areas to sit at is the front side where the net is located or the top area above the bar (super relaxing to just sit and watch the waves). They have bathrooms available but only for #1 - if you need to do the #2, you'll have to hold it until they go back to shore because the toilets don't work to flush. Also, make sure you don't throw any paper towels or tissue down the toilets because it will clog. They do take song requests and are willing to accommodate. You can also bring snacks and eat on the boat. I've went on rainy and sunny days so make sure you check the weather beforehand. If it rains, would be good to have a raincoat handy. Disappointing that it looks like most people based on reviews had a great time, sad to say that was not the case for our group. From the start the service was a bit shady to say the least, we paid over $3.5K to book this and from the start the bartender made it feel like we couldn't come up to them without tipping large sums of money. The boat captain went straight sailing into the rocky waters where no one was expecting to go through, all other companies have notified us previously that we are going into choppy surf and will start turning back so no one gets sea sick. This was not the case here, I had to yell at the captain who very clearly entertained by the many people getting sea sick and then he turned around. Save your money, book elsewhere. read more

I went on this cruise for my birthday with some friends! The crew was really nice and stalled as long as they could since my friends were running late. But I do recommend going on time to check in so you can get first dibs on where you want to sit. The afternoon cruises aren't usually crowded so you really don't need to reserve for those times but the sunset sail you probably need to. To be on the safe side I did reserve for the 1:30pm & the lady was very nice on the phone. We checked in, payed $40, then had our picture taken which you can buy afterwards. I'm not sure on the price since my friends bought it for me as a gift. Most important thing I was looking for was an open bar...it was my birthday after all. They had maitais, rum, vodka, gin & a lot of sodas/juices to mix. If you wanna be daring ask them what their "trifecta" is. The crew was great. Really attentive about making sure your drink is full! I absolutely love the Na Hoku. I found this booze cruise on yelp over a year ago and it had great reviews. I took my best friend the first time I went and it was such a blast. The captain and crew were happy outgoing and alwyas making sure we had a drink in our hand. Then went again with my sister and friends few months later and it was even better! The waves were crazy and we were standing holding onto the wires on the net. I felt we woulda died but it was such an adrenaline rush. We saw a turtle twice on it. The third time tho was a little different. I went November 23 and they were two new dudes who didn't really engage that much with us but it was still a blast. EVERYONE NEEDS TO DO THIS!!! The sunset cruise was probably my favorite part of visiting Hawaii. I went on the cruise for my 21st bday. The crew was so friendly and accommodating (shoutout to Captain Flynn, JJ, and Jeff). The drinks were flowing the entire time and let me tell you, they are s t r o n g! The music was on point the whole hour and a half, ad luckily the group of people that were on my particular boat was an amazing, fun group of people to party with. Speaking of, whole it is "all ages", it is definitely more of an adult atmosphere but I know that anyone will enjoy this cruise. There's plenty of photo opportunities, especially at sunset and the crew does make occasional stops to allow for photos. All in all, $45 for unlimited drinks and a beautiful sunset boat ride is more than worth it and I would highly recommend this to anyone and everyone visiting! read more

We're talking $25 (with a future $5 discount on all next cruises after your first) for 2 hours of all you can drink floating around on the pacific ocean. I don't care if they were calling me names or talking negatively about my musical tastes, $25 all you can drink in Waikiki Beach is worth it if you're in a closet. Toss in the catamaran and you're ripping them off. Crew is comical, polite, and quick to fill you up with a re-fill. They arent trying to be stingy with their booze. Discovered this one on previous visit to Oahu and are so thankful to Ron and Barbara from Las Vegas who told us about it. To quote them: "We've been coming here for the last 20 years. Same hotel (the Sheraton) same week of year. We've seen and done it all here on the island and love to just hang out at the pool now. But everyday we take a cruise on one of those catamarans. Best deal on Waikiki....either the Na Hoku II or the Mai Tai. Take the afternoon sail....the winds are better and it's a compete rush riding the waves. You gotta try it, son. You won't be disappointed." So, we ambled down to the Na Hoku II, paid our $25 and had a grand time. Too bad it was our last day...but what a way to end it. Walked right off the boat at 5pm and up to Duke's for dinner. Strolled along the beach at sunset and then swam in the ocean with my wife to see the final rays set in the red & purple sky. It was perfect. When we came this Spring, we vowed to take advantage of a sail every afternoon just as Ron and Barbara suggested. The trade winds were up every day so the sea was perfect for pounding thru the swells and getting soaked. True to their word, we said we were returning guests and they only charged us $20 each. The first day we gave them a great tip and they treated us like royalty thereafter. Did anyone mention they only take CASH? No credit cards. We've never done the sunset cruise, but I hear it gets booked up every night so a reservation is probably in order. For the afternoon sails, doing the walk up should be fine. But they will take all reservations first and wait 15 minutes before allowing walk-ons. The booze is a definite plus. Not sure if they cut back on the alchohol content for the tropical drinks as I never felt the slightest buzz this time but if you want beer.....for $20 you can get pretty well plastered in 90 minutes and have a free boat ride. We saw some young military guys score on that one. They easily consumed $20 worth of beer each. Remember you can't drink on the beach. You have to finish your beverage BEFORE exiting the boat. And the bar is open the moment you step aboard. Great crew. Very jovial and engaging. I commented to one of them that they really do have a great job. They get to do what they love (sailing) and they make people happy every day of the week. I am super impressed with the crew member who blows the conch shell. I'll be damned but it sounds just like an air horn. I honestly couldn't tell the difference. I agree with one reviewer that this has the potential to be more of a PG-15 boat ride. Open bar and lots of adults are the combination to not make it child appropriate. NOT that kids can't go.....but if you are offended by some of the sexual inuendo and off color jokes....you have no place to hide on a boat this size. You are gonna hear it. I am such a tough critic....four stars again instead of five. What's wrong this time? It's that same ol' lack of re-investing into the business. The Na Hoku II is close to being the Na Hoku III. Oh, the boat is fine. It's got some wear and tear but the sails are downright ratty. I'm a sailor. Served in the Coast Guard. And I'm telling ya....they need to be replaced. Do that and you'll get my five star rating. But in the meantime, we'll just keep on enjoying the afternoon booze cruise every day we stay in Waikiki. read more

These boat cruises are always a great time!! We have gone to celebrate birthdays, graduations, and just for good old fashioned fun. The best time to go is for the sunset, 5:30 cruise. It is the busiest so I would recommend calling ahead to make a reservation. Reservations made for more than 9 people require you to pay at least a day ahead of the cruise. The sunset cruise is $30 and the other times are $25 for kama'aina and $30 for everyone else. It seems a little pricey, but the drinks, alcoholic and non, are FREE! We had a great time on our cruise. The staff was helpful and the drinks were plenty. They had some premixed drinks like the Mai Tais but I ordered my own concoctions and they were just fine. We had a very pleasant sunset cruise 1/9/14 with great weather and a great group of people. The "reservations" really consists of leaving a voice mail if you don't get anyone, but a lot of people didn't have reservations and it was no issue. The cost is $30 per person; old/young, boy/girl, doesn't matter. $30 and CASH ONLY. No good parking nearby. Might get lucky and find street parking a few blocks away. We walked from our hotel .5 mile away and that was no problem. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the website is lacking in helpful information, like if you're there before 5 and no one is there don't freak out :) the exact pick up location is literally on the beach even tho the cadres associated is 2335 Kalakaua Ave Honolulu, HI 96815. The entrance to the beach that we used was lined with surfboards. But we had a wonderful cruise, good drinks and great pic moments. We'd go again! read more

We took this cruise on 2 separate occasions, during our stay. The first one was impromptu, when we saw the boat on the beach, and we had such a good time, we did it again 2 days later. I can't say enough about how well the crew treated us, and how attentive they were to everyone's needs. They were always checking to ensure that everyone's drink was full, talking to passengers, and snapping pictures for everyone. We saw turtles and dolphins on the first trip, and turtles and flying fish on the second. The first trip we paid $30.00 per person, and they gave us a discount as returning guests on the second, so it was $25.00 per person. The only reason this is getting 2 stars is because for the most part e had a good time. We booked the cruise, it was 7 people max on the boat. So we booked all 7 spaces. One of our friends canceled so this guy on the beach asked to come and will pay us since we prepaid online. It was a great boat trip until the end when we tried to collect from the guy (who was a friend of the crew) he said he paid the girl on board. Which he did cause I seen him give her cash with my own eyes. When we approached the girl she said 'you have to collect from him!' And the boat was sailing off as we were explaining. Shady business. Being from here and in the service industry we tipped them fat. And they still took that money. DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS. read more

How could you NOT love the Na Hoku II? We've celebrated birthdays and Christmas on the catamaran, and even considered getting married aboard!!! We've also met some awesome people! I know as soon as people hear the words "booze cruise", they think it's a big party boat full of wasted, half naked people. Well, kinda, but not really. I've taken my family on the boat a few times, to include my little brothers. They LOVED it every single time! And my mom wants to come back to Hawaii just to sail!! We've even gone out numerous times with our coworkers. Everyone loves it! The staff typically does a great job of taking care of their guests. When my 8-year old brother sailed with us, Bear did a fantastic job of making sure he stayed good and hydrated, although Alex said he wasn't thirsty. He was pleased that Bear came back with the drink anyway. WE MISS BEAR! Shugo is also a great crew member who pays attention to the guests and gets them their drinks, especially during bumpy rides. We always appreciate the extra help. The day of the sail or even the day before, make sure to call and make a reservation!! Get to the boat when it docks to reduce your wait in like, and make sure you get the seat you want. Kama'aina is $25, and so are repeat sail-ers. Normally $30. However, no discounts on the sunset sail, and it sells out EARLY! We typically like the earlier sails- a lot more wildlife to be seen (especially whale season in the winter). The boat doesn't seem to be running the 9:30am cruise anymore, so we tend to jump on the 11:30am sail. For all those who get seasick like me, make sure you go on the Na Hoku II (red/yellow) and NOT the Manu Kai (blue/yellow sister boat). It's smaller, and I feel the motion of the ocean WAY more. I only have two MINOR negatives: (1) When you try to make a reservation for a group of 10+, you have to pay in advance. However, they don't accept credit cards, so you have to take the money down to the boat. (2) The staff lately has been a little less helpful than they were in the past. Maybe we just love some of the old crew better-- Bear, Captain Crash. The last time out, a girl was helping tend bar, and kept jumping between the bar and the deck to get sun. At times, we had to get her attention and felt like a bother. All in all, the best catamaran in Hawaii. $25-30, and open bar? You can't beat it. I called and was told approval needed to be signed off by a manager and eventually were given a later time for an additional fee (daytime vs sunset) per person.
