Ok, I thought for awhile about writing a review about this place.. I have got to say.. I've read a lot of reviews written and most seemed to be good with problems pointing to a staff member... Well, I door dashed an order bypassing the hiccups that could ever be presented by the staff member... I ordered the jazmine rice and two entrees.. Curry chicken and coconut curry chicken. I grew up eating curry ( and no I'm not Indian nor Asian) Of course this is door dash so price is not to be really factored in ( it is what it is) Now I have got to say.... I've ordered several times from this place. The same items and the flavor was consistently the same. I've found this to be a hard to reach feat in Santa Barbara yet this restaurant succeeds at it. The curry is basic... You don't get standard fixes and trimmings that come with curry, ( onion, potatoes etc..) However..... They serve a good tasting curry chicken... Their is no denying this. (Fyi, just because you get curry seasoning in the grocery store and add it to a Dish doesn't it make it a great offering. It's a little bit more complicated than that) The jasmine rice I'm not used to eating curry with. it complimented the curry flavor extremely well. I will continue ordering from this restaurant. Amazing Indian food and super friendly service! Conveniently located in Isla Vista. This wonderful restaurant has plenty of indoor seating and a few outdoor tables. The vibe friendly and relaxed. They even have television sets inside. The menu had a great selection of Indian food. Vegan and vegetarian options were plentiful! We loved everything we tried. The Chana Masala was my favorite. Naan Stop is always a hit, never a miss. My first time here was last year, pre-covid, for a friend's birthday dinner. The owner was so kind, funny, and generous and gave my friend a discount on the total bill! He also gave us different boba flavors to try, free of charge. The food is incredible, and I am a strong believer of the fact that Naan Stop has the best boba in IV. Coming from the South Bay Area, I've had my fair share of good Indian food and good boba, and I can safely say Naan Stop won me over in both categories. I recently moved back and decided to swing by earlier today. The owner was just as charismatic and awesome to talk to. He gave me recommendations on what to try, and even gave me and my friend Jasmine Milk Tea to try. I got the special Chicken Curry with rice, garlic naan, and a blended Taro boba. Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in IV!! If you're craving warm comfort food, this is the place to go. The workers are all hard working people who are helpful in taking my order and answering my questions. I have never had a bad experience here from customer service or taste of food. They have a handful of different things to order from the menu from bowls to plates to drinks. Everything I've had so far has been delicious and my friends also enjoy this place as well. I ordered the rice plate with Chicken Tikka Masala and Spicy Coconut Curry. The meal pictured plus one order of garlic naan was $24. For the price I paid, the meal was NOT worth. I thought that the sauces were both too watery. The thin sauce lacked flavor and the chicken was the only true source of flavor, which was okay. Unfortunately the rice was undercooked, crunchy, and dry. It's a long grain white rice that I did not particularly enjoy. Overall I have visited Naan Stop in the past, and it has been much better. I didn't feel like my $24 was well spent :( I did eat everything, but I feel like the flavors could have been richer, sauce thicker, and rice less crunchy! read more

This was my second visit to Naan Stop and my husband's first visit. We both had a fantastic experience!! We wanted something quick while we waited for my bicycle to get serviced at another business. I knew that Naan Stop had prepared food, ready to serve; a perfect option for us! There also aren't very many Indian food options in the Santa Barbara area so I knew my husband would want to check it out. My husband ordered the coconut chicken bowl with the veggie rice, I ordered an a la carte paneer tikka masala and we shared some butter naan, and tried a pomegranate green tea. I'd never had paneer tikka masala, but I was so glad I ordered it! Wow, it was so delicious!! I also loved my husband's coconut chicken. Everything we had was fantastic and only made better by a tamarind sauce, a spicy green sauce and another clear red sauce. I didn't know what any of these sauces were but I couldn't get enough. We also really loved the atmosphere in Naan Stop. There's a patio for outdoor eating but also plenty of room inside. Fun Bollywood style songs were played on the front TV. And the owner gave us the best service possible!! He explained all of the entree options we asked about and was very personable. I don't have a lot of experience with Indian food so I was really grateful for his help. This place is the only reason I'll go into IV. And it is worth it, too. My fave is the chicken curry with garlic naan. The food is full of flavor and always hot and delicious. The greens apple snow bubble is also yummy! The inside is nice and there's plenty of seating when it gets busy, but there's also some outdoor seating. This place is one of my go-to's whenever I go to IV because it's really affordable, and they give great portions of food (enough for two if you get the rice + 2 veggie/meat option). Not to mention, their boba tea is fantastic, and they use non-dairy creamer (so it's great for vegans like me!). They've given me several samples of the boba, so I'm always super satisfied with whatever I get because I already got to try it ahead of time! Stopped in for the first time last week and so glad I did! There was an older gentleman at the counter that was very kind. I let him know it was my first time in and he started loading up the samples. Everything was delicious! I got a plate with basmati rice, tofu tikka masala, sag paneer and a samosa. Saag paneer (even if it's tofu) is absolutely delicious! I could bathe in it. SO WHAT if it's tofu; it's still delicious. I wish there was another Naan Stop restaurant closer to downtown Santa Barbara and included boba as well. I'm not so down with the samosas; I found them a little too dry. The naan is okay. Food was great until my boyfriend and i both got food poisoning and were very sick 30 min after. I do not recommend going here. They use "hot bars" which is why it's really risky for contamination. Also i don't understand why my boyfriend and I paid different amounts for the same amount of food? because he got his in a bowl and mine was in a different container? They're the same size so.. Although The quantities are smaller than I anticipated, the quality of the meats provided here is top notch so what they don't provide in large quantity they make up for in quality food. I highly recommend the chicken tikka masala rice bowl, with garlic naan bread on the side. Ive had this dish two nights in a row :) its a quick bite if you are eating it to go, but you have the option of dining in. There are options to dine indoors or outdoors depending on your preference. Its a casual restaurant located in the heart of Isla Vista, Santa Barbara right on the outskirts of UCSB. The customer service is outstanding! Since I'm a real stickler on quality of meat and customer service this little mom and pops eatery gets 5stars from me :) highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Indian cuisine. read more

I really want to like this place cause it's one of the only decent food places in IV. Unfortunately, it is very overpriced for what you get, the sauces have mediocre flavor, and the customer service is horrible. The old lady who I presume is an owner is extremely rude and short with customers. I make sure to be very kind but she forgets what I told her I wanted seconds before, and straight up refused to make things on the menu because "it would take too long." Naan Stop is not by any means authentic, or really Indian cuisine. It's about as Indian as Panda Express is Chinese but I still stop by cause it's fairly cheap and their Naan is actually pretty decent. Overall I'd say Naan Stop is mediocre, cost not withstanding. Definitely try their nuclear orange colored butter chicken but be warned, it will probably give you cancer in 25 years.. It's wholly unnatural. But let's face it.. Naan Stop was written off for me years ago because the Yelp rating was so bad. It's still bad yet here I am! I'm glad I made the choice because Naan Stop is one of the best food stops in Isla Vista - and a good choice for Indian food. (Also the only one north of Santa Barbara until you get to like San Luis Obispo.) The Saag Paneer is the best I've had in the area. Very good, not over cooked. Chicken tikka masala is delicious as well, with glorious chunks of chicken. Service is straight forward, it's not a full service establishment. Tell the guy what you want, pay and eat. Bottom Line: WHY does this place only have 3 and a half stars??! Just like Wyatt Earp in the movie Tombstone, I say "Nnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" OK, onto my experience. I had been craving Indian food for a long time when I finally just needed to check this place out. It had been a really long day and I was just hungry. I walked in and because of the Covid restrictions, there's no indoor seating. I looked at the menu on the counter and as I was trying to decide the gentleman came out from the back and asked if I needed any help. Luckily, I panicked and ordered a Tikka wrap which is not what i wanted but a perfect way to test this place out. The tikka wrap came on a large piece of naan, and I have to say that it awesome. The naan was thick and soft, the meat was very tasty and thank goodness, mild sauce didn't light my face on fire. I like a little bit of spice but as I'm pretty white (the pictures dont lie) but I do like a little kick. In my haste to devour this thing, I didnt even notice that all of the juice for the wrap was running down all over my jacket..... oh well. While I was waiting for the wrap to come up and the nice people behind the counter were chatting me up and when they found out that it was my first time, they lit up. 'oh you have to try this. you have to try that. you're going to love this. thank you for coming in!' It was incredibly hard for me to think about a restaurant in IV that is worth 5 stars, but I think Naan Stop does it for me. Naan Stop never tasted bad to me. These days the service is poppin' and by that I mean the owner gives a lot of sample cups of the curries/boba and sometimes shares his personal story about how the establishment came to be. Sometimes they do take a while to even tend to you for whatever reason. I'm just standing at the front for 10 minutes, but the owner apologizes. He's really nice! Love the man. I always get a bowl of chicken tikka masala. Personally it's to die for. I've also had their spicy chicken curry and that's also amazing. A bowl lasts me a while and is enough to give me a food coma. Highly recommend Naan Stop for those who've never had Indian food or crave it! So creamy and delicious! read more

And while I was placing the order with my wife on what to eat, the lady owner interfered and rudely told that one person should order and make it fast since their restaurant is closing at 9:30, and when I expressed my concern about her behavior, the other owner tried to threaten me saying I should relax... Ultimately food doesn't matter when customer service is so pathetic. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I went here to eat with my dad. He is vegetarian and does not eat food that has touched meat. We got our food and my dad discovered a piece of meat after accidentally eating it in his curry. He didn't want to eat his food anymore and told the owner why. Keep in mind that he wasn't asking for a refund, he was just telling the owner what the situation was. Once he told the owner, the owner immediately reacted by yelling at my dad. Yes, i mean yelling. He kept saying that there was no way that the meat would have mixed in the vegetarian food and kept accusing my dad of lying. At one point he even asked my dad to show him the meat that he ate. How in the world can you show someone something that you accidentally ate!! I'm not a confrontational person so I don't usually get involved in conflicts but the rudeness that the owner and the lady in the shop made me speak up. The customer is always right. That's something every business should know. Besides, why would my dad lie about something that he didn't even want a refund for. As for the food, eh it didn't even seem like Indian people made it. I don't really come here for food too often because I'd rather make it myself for cheaper, but I do love the food that they serve here! As for boba, I particularly like their almond boba drink. Some other options seem to never be available when I ask for it, specifically the pudding drinks. It would be great if they'd remove or cross out the options that aren't available. I'm pretty sure I've tried all the curries they have to offer, as well as the saag tofu which is delish! I wouldn't know what authentic Indian food tastes like, but I'm a curry king of girl and I do enjoy eating what they serve here. I've only been here for food and boba around 4 times, but I've always been treated well by the owner and his staff. I've gone here by myself 3 times outta 4 and have experienced no grumpiness or foul attitude from them. One specific employee was very friendly, cracked a few jokes haha, and was generous with the servings; owner is a little more stingier I'd say. The owner was also friendly during the one time I went with my friends. He even went out of his way to give a sample of boba to one who didn't order any boba (maybe that was because she's Indian too? idk). No bad experiences for now. I'm not the best judge of Indian food and I know there can be more to improved upon for this place, but it deserves 5/5 stars in my eyes due the prices, the sizes, and the accessibility. I had the chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, the samosas, and the Mango Lassi. The rice bowl is under $7 and fills you up well. While my chicken curry was somewhat watery at the end and the rice portion is definitely larger than the entree, it filled me up really well and I was satisfied. The curry had a mild spice to it. The chicken tikka masala was good, too. The mango lassi was so big! It was $4, so we were having second doubts, but the size was decent and it tastes good! As for the samosas, they're ENORMOUS. And they're $2. The sauces are located next to the straws by the menu. One fills me up right away. The store isn't the cleanest and I see more people do take-out than dine-in, but Naan Stop is a decent place for an Indian food fix and when in IV, my standards become pretty low.
