Stopped here on a Saturday, mid afternoon. They said it would be a 40 minute wait, but it turned out to be only like 15 minutes. Staff was very friendly, food was great, prices were reasonable. The only issue I had was our waitress was not as attentive to us as we would have liked. I am not holding this against them though because I know how short staffed every place is around here. I think I can honestly say the "Fire in the Hole" nachos are the best I've had ever. They pack a bit of a kick but are full of flavor! For my meal I picked the Chimichanga with chicken but was left wanting more flavor wise. I was completely blown away by the nachos so I am overlooking the chimichanga. This is another one of those times I wish I could give half a star. This place doesn't quite deserve 2 stars, but they certainly don't deserve the 3 I've generously given them. If you're a Margarita lover, go ahead and thank me for taking the bullet for you. I had the worst margarita of my life here. I could have excused the soggy nachos, but when you bill yourself as a Mexican Cantina and screw up a Margarita, I can give no quarter. Just a watery mess. Tourists and spring breakers seem to like it here. I don't know many locals who do much but hit the bar for a beer every now and again. I love this area of Myrtle Beach! The shops are great and it is very "clean." I had not even done my research, as per usual, about restaurants in that area. But, we were craving Mexican and Nacho Hippo looked fun and smelled heavenly even from the outside. It is a casual, vibrant scene. They had live music and outdoor seating. We sat outside and it was perfect. We ordered the guacamole which was VERY good, a couple of their unique tacos (fried shrimp and mango and a vegetarian/hummus taco, etc). We ordered margaritas but I wasn't overly impressed with mine. I ordered the skinny marg and it was just too watery. My friend ordered the $3 marg and it was just too sour. You could hardly taste the tequila...just WEAK! The MAIN negative that I have to mention or I would be doing everyone a disservice is the fact that you had to pay for the chips and salsa and there were no free refills. You can order their 3-tier salsa app and it comes with 3 different types of salsa: Verde, regular and mango. They were good but there wasn't enough and the fact that the salsa wasn't free-flowing was disturbing to me. Nonetheless, we had a great time and this place was great! My husband and we disappointed from the start. The margaritas were green flavored water, queso dip was a slurry of flour and water. We can canceled our dinners and the manager came to our table to comp what we ordered after we explained how disappointed we were with the kitchen and bar. Ridiculous portions. Absolutely ridiculous. Gordon Ramsay would flip his (crap) and scream at the staff of Nacho Hippo and say that their portions are too (bloody) large. But I'm a pig, so that's completely fine with me. But seriously, like $9 and change ordered me a Day After nacho platter which ended up being a troth full of chips slathered in beef, cheese, lettuce, jalapenos, and other tasty morsels that I couldn't really quite identify because I was drunk with gluttony. Depending on the appetites, this single order of nachos feeds two people, maybe four lightweights. But even those Coney Island hot dog competitive eaters would raise their eyebrow at the size of these portions. Service was friendly, the location clean and kind of yuppie-ish, but not so Rednecky Rivera like the rest of South Myrtle can get. No stars and bars or Jersey Shore wannabes in sight. Clean, covered parking lot, and easy to get to, as long as you have no objections of daring to part with the shore and actually drive. I have been to Nacho Hippo on several occasions in the past few months, and compared to most of the restaurants I have tried here in MB, this one is actually pretty good... At least for what it is. My first experience at this place was awful. Maybe it was the wrong time of day, maybe there was a particular breed of tourists out that day, or maybe it was that our sever's aroma was a combination of menthols and vanilla... it's hard to say. Against my better judgement I went back for round two. Typically once I have a bad experience somewhere I am done. In life I am all about the second chances... however life is too short to be wasted on poor food. Now if you have never been to N.H I have to warn you it has all of the warning signs of a bad restaurant. Kitchy tourist type items to greet you when you enter, picnic type tables, and plastic cups that hold your drink. This place screams, "I am 21 and on spring break!" So here's the deal. If you like it hot, start off with the jalapeno poppers. My fiancee loves them! The tacos are okay (howver you may be thinking, "how can you screw up a taco?"..... Oh... there are ways..... trust me). If you are going to go to a place called Nacho Hippo, you've just got to try the nachos. My absolute favorite is the *#!hole. They don't skimp on the toppings and it is a HUGE serving. Also (very important) their bartenders seem to actually know how to mix drinks. You would be suprised (or at least I am) at how many people in this town call themselves "bartenders" but can't mix a proper drink. I have been wanting to try this place since it opened but live an hour away; finally got time after catching a movie with my youngest son today, it did not disappoint. I really like good Tex-Mex and they take it to another level here by fusing it with other ethnic and a few classic american flavors in many of their dishes. We tried the (Bleep) Hole Nachos for a starter; really large platter and piled high, if I wasn't very hungry this would have filled us two up probably. There was more than a half pound of tender chicken in nice big pulled pieces (it was well seasoned but couldn't really tell it was Jerk spices - minor quibble). Plenty of tasty black beans, cheese and very fresh and tasty salsa full of sweet mango. I had a bit of room left and wanted to try more things so I ordered a Blackened Baja Fish Taco, a Kahuna Taco and my son wanted to try the Love You Long Time Taco. All of them were excellent - well prepared protein with fresh, high quality ingredients / salsas rounding them out. Service was fast, friendly and efficient (Levi took excellent care of us, knew the menu inside out). A Manager stopped by to make sure everything was to our liking which is always a good sign of a well run establishment to me. This is a fun and very good concept with reasonable prices, I know they opened a second location not too long ago at Barefoot Landing and would like to see them keep expanding if they can keep up the quality. I'll definitely be back to try more things and their Margaritas, one of the few cocktails I like. They make them from scratch / REAL JUICE / no neon green colored, antifreeze looking, preservative filled toxic sludge from a big plastic container here. And they carry some good Tequilas as well, I was driving home so just had beer from a small but decent draft selection (they have more bottled). read more

We've been to Nacho Hippo a couple of times. In the past we've been all about the nachos, but today we decided to go for an actual lunch. I have a love/hate thing going on with Nacho Hippo. I love the food, but I'm not a fan of the overall ambiance of the restaurant. The interior is extremely loud so that it is hard to hear the conversation going on at your table. They also have just a bunch of high top tables which I am not that big a fan of...give me a booth or a normal table please! Well, there are some outdoor tables set up but I'm not about to chow down on spicy Mexican food when it's over 90F outside! Aside from that, the food is pretty darn good. We've had several different nachos over time and they never disappoint. The average nacho plate is probably between $8-10 and it is worth every penny. These nachos come out fully loaded with tons of meat, cheese, veggies and whatever else you order. They have their own custom ones or if you are picky you can build your own a la carte style. The Hipponachomus is a pretty great nacho plate indeed! They have more than just nachos...they also serve up tacos, burritos and a couple of other simple Mexican staples. We went with the tacos today and I was a bit disappointed. They range from about $3-5 per taco, and that's quite a hefty price for them. Yeah, they are gourmet tacos, but I wouldn't want to pay more than $2 a piece. Though I will admit that they are pretty tasty. I had the Korean beef taco that had a really nice spice that played well against the kimchi. I also had a Carolina Kid which is pulled pork in a sweet sauce, and that was pretty darn tastetacular. The miss' had the Banging Shrimp taco, and all I can say is that if you are a fan of Bang Bang Shrimp at Bonefish Grill, this taco is a must-have! As the name implies, Nacho Hippo is all about those plates of chips and other goodies. Sure they have other things on the menu but they seem a bit overpriced. For me, the nachos are the only thing worth going for (food wise.) We will definitely be back, but I'll save my hard-earned cash for some heaping, cheesy, meaty nachos rather than a couple of meager tacos. read more

Tonight was my maiden voyage into the land of Nacho Hippo, and it was epic; I battled bikers along Farrow Parkway and then yuppies for a parking spot. When we arrived, there was a 20 minute wait, but that was alright because it was Friday night in the Market Commons (so the wait was expected). There was live acoustic music going on and they had the "porch" area open, so we could listen while waiting. When we were seated at one of the porch tables, the waitress promptly took our drink and appetizer order. We got the chips with the three salsas & they were AMAZING! My favorite was the mango salsa, but my brother liked the green one. And everything arrived to the table in about three minutes, which was nice since we had waited... I got three tacos (even though the waitress suggested two)- the Thai chicken, baja fish, and Austin Powers. I was shocked at how large each taco was & was only able to eat about 2/3 of my food. But they were excellent!! The kids menu is great too, They have tacos, enchiladas, corn dogs- all the stuff kids like! It was a terrific experience & I will definitely return. We ate for under $25, which is a steal in this area! read more

Wednesday (?) afternoon for lunch. Maximo Sampler: This was delicious and so much food. We weren't able to eat too much of it but it saved decently well so we enjoyed it the next day too. Day After Nachos: I think this mound of nachos was around a foot tall and a foot around. Definitely shareable between two people (something we didn't realize before we ordered the above sampler). I can't really attest to the quality of the ingredients but it tasted delicious. Service: Good. There weren't that many people so it wasn't really a challenge for the waitress to keep up. Sidenote: THE MENUS ARE SO COOL. Verdict: Yum. Would totally go back if I ever went to Myrtle Beach again. If I were making up a menu that had potential to offend the most possible people under the guise of humor - this would be it. In fact, I don't think I could make this stuff up. Of course, if it's not your own ethnicity that might be offended then you'd never notice. I'm truly surprised that the "The Carolina Kid" isn't called "Cracker Kid" considering some of the others. "Ka-Ka-Ka-Kia Korean" anyone? So, I ordered as much sexual innuendo as I could while keeping a straight face: Three-way for an appetizer followed by some Naked Nachos. And, of course, Love You Long Time Taco - which as $3.50 and not the $2 you might expect to follow "Love you long time". I looked for Sex on the Beach on the drink menu and, considering the nature of the rest of the menu, was saddened not to find it. Maybe next time I'll order as racially rude a menu as I can. The food and service were good. Not exceptional, just good. It's convenient there in Market Common but I'd not make a special trip out for it. Honestly, I'd not call this "Mexican" any more than I call Taco Bell Mexican cuisine. It's American bar food wrapped in tortillas. Having tortillas and jalepenos does not Mexican cuisine make. This place comes off like a Chile's or Applebee's with a Mexican theme. And I hoped at the very least it would be at that level. Unfortunately it wasn't even that good. First, the service was lousy. We had to wait 20+ mins to even see a server and 15 mins after ordering were informed that the cook staff arrived late for dinner service. The food itself was inconsistent. The guac tasted good, but it also contained a quarter of an unripe avocado in it that couldn't be eaten. The tacos were good, but the amount of filling per taco was inconsistent. We've been here a few times years ago and it was a fun place with good food and service. This trip was a different experience. Drinks from the bar came very slow and we were told there was only one bartender, apparently a management issue. We ordered food, appetizers were ok. The guac was terrific but came with what looked like a bag of chips, way too much for the small cup of guac. Wings ordered were too spicey for our guest and were sent back. The food seemed delayed, the waiter said the kitchen was slow tonight blaming it on the end of summer laziness. When it finally came we were missing sides and asked for condiments, peppers, sour cream, etc. The waiter didn't check back so we had to wait until we were able to call him over. My wife got the wrong tacos and mine, I requested hard shells, went very soggy waiting and were cracked in half so they held nothing. The pork was good as was the taco beef. Our geusts ordered desserts, one of which was wrong. They were actually quite good. The wings we sent back were still on the check and I had to ask that they be removed. I think we'll probably try a new place next time. read more

This place is decorated to the max... it's a feast for the eyes. The food is tex-mex all the way. Don't expect Mexican (traditional or otherwise) but this is not a bad thing. The service the day we went was great! Our server was super friendly and attentive. The restaurant wasn't very full on this Monday evening so we were lucky. We always share samples of our food amongst ourselves so I tried pretty much everything on the table... Bangin' Shrimp App... Delicious! I joked that I could order 4 of these appetizers for my meal Hipponachomus nachos... I ordered this and it was great! The jalapenos were fresh and spicy. There was plenty of Chorizo on this huge plate of nachos. I pretty much finished it but I was struggling. Bleep Hole nachos... the chicken needed more flavor and it was too sweet overall from the mango salsa but it was still very good. Shredded pork nachos (make your own)... The pork had excellent flavor and there was plenty of it. Pork in every bite!! An overall great experience here... a lot of food for your money. Great atmosphere. Great service. Exceedingly meh. We needed a spot for a drink and some food before our flight from Myrtle Beach, and it was either this place or Subway. Tough choice, right? The place was pretty empty, and I ordered a margarita, while Meghan C. had a beer. The margarita was super, super weak. I mean, if this had tequila in it, it must have been measured with a thimble, rather than a jigger. It took quite some time for us to get our drinks, and as we had our two year old son with us, you'd think that the server would get that we need the kid's food and drink fairly quickly. Wrong. She had his milk sitting there, on her tray, on the bar, and was just standing around for a good ten minutes, while my marg was being made, and Meghan's beer was getting popped. We really just drank, but ordered some chips. They came with three salsas, and they were each worse than the one before it. Maybe one was cheese. I don't remember. They were just bad. One was like a mango habanero, and even though I could see things that looked like peppers in it, there was zero heat. Just not worth it. Unfortunately, this is all there is at the airport. Unless you want Subway, where every sandwich tastes the same as every other sandwich. Actually, on second though, I'd go to Subway. I'd just order a beer from Nacho Hippo. read more

Couldnt wait to try this place! The $3 margarita with $2 floater of Marnier was excellent. Great service. The sweet Thai wings were a delite. They could've used a little more sauce, but they were good. Excellent homemade ranch, it tasted very unique in was not runny. Typically homemade ranches are runny and I will enjoy them, but this was a thick ranch that was homemade and very tasty. The avacado ranch was pretty good too. overall, the sauce was amazing on the wings. The Hippo rolls were good but a little overly BBQ-ey. The Baja fish tacos were a 6/10. Needs more sauce. Too dry! My wife knows fish tacos and her criticism is something I really consider. Avoid the corn tortillas and get the flour tortillas for all the taco choices. The Rock Lobsta tacos were good, but not great. My wife liked the honey mustard sauce, but I thought it needed a different type of sauce. The Chimi Chimi Bang Bang Chimichanga was AMAZING and cheesy. Best item for me. Overall, just ask for extra sauce on everything you order, and you'll be fine. Im coming back! read more

Awesome, located in Market Commons the parking is no problem with the garage located right there. My sister and I love to go and customize our own nachos. We have the standard nachos with pulled pork, cilantro, and mango salsa! it's off the charts! We share the dish and it is more than enough. We have not had the large margarita's we see passing by but they look great! Strongly recommend this location!! read more

This was my 2nd venture out to Nacho Hippo. My 1st was to sample as many beverages as I could. This latest trip was for lunch...sans the beverages. My friend and I shared the guac appetizer. Kinda pricey, but yummers. I ordered 1 taco and then made it a plate by adding the rice and a side salad....holy...it's a huge meal people... so glad I didn't order 2 tacos. I got the pork taco. It was full of flava'. She got the vegetarian quesadilla. My taco dinner was $6.95... I think they make their money off the booze. Not to mention that when it does come, it is usually lukewarm at best like it has just been sitting back in the kitchen waiting for their expertly trained above competent staff of servers to spring into action like the attentive cybernetic enhanced ninjas like they are (yes folks, that was sarcasm.) Drinks are overpriced and really watered down from what I am told from many people and then there's the live music... First, let me start by saying that I LIVE in the Market Common, so I am not talking about just one night here. I'm pretty much exposed to who's playing there on a regular basis and they ALL pretty much have a few things in common. Ever been to a place where they have live music that is just really bad only to find that the entertainment is somehow related to the management or owner of the restaurant and that's the only reason they were even allowed to even set up their gear? This is basically the caliber of talent you will get here. I've actually walked by on a few nights and actually wondered if some of the acts that they book actually pay the restaurant to play there. Like so out of tune that your already lackluster food tastes worse. There are just better places to go in MB, even in Market Common, this one is better off just skipping. read more

Visited Nacho Hippo twice over the 11 days we were in Myrtle Beach recently... I'm a fan! I'm not ashamed to admit that I might be overly obsessed with the idea of "Mexican" food. We swung by on one rainy night to get some "chips and dips" to take back to the hotel room to snack on while playing some games and watching movies during Hurricane Joaquin. The bartender with the fro, who took my order, was awesome. Very accommodating and helpful while saving me some money in the process. The second visit, we shared an order of nacho's (huge) and had a couple of drinks, and really enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant. Purists will say it's not "real Mexican" food, but I think it's fair to call it "fusion food" and I really enjoyed both the atmosphere and the actual taste of the food. All in all, I look forward to going back on my next visit to Myrtle Beach! read more

I have a hard time imagining anyone choosing to eat here, but the food I had in Myrtle Beach was pretty bad overall and it's certainly no worse than any of the other places we went. Given that airport food is generally pretty terrible and food in South Carolina is terrible, this was better than expected. I enjoyed some beers and lackluster nachos here while anxiously hoping I wasn't trapped in Myrtle Beach because of a blizzard. Thankfully, my flight did eventually depart. My wife and I had heard about this place from some friends and decided to try it out! We were NOT disappointed. We had the mini mexxican street corn bites as an appatizer and they were so good. Tons of flavor and the ranch was on point. We also loved our fried shrimp nachos, tons of toppings (they don't skimp!) Plus we had tons to take home. Imagine placing unseasoned boiled chicken in a microwave with onions and green peppers. Cook until thoroughly desiccated. Serve with unseasoned black beans, dry unseasoned "Mexican" rice--wait, something must have been added to give the rice an orange color--and unseasoned avocado mush in a plastic pill cup. Now call it Hippo Plata Mas and you've got yourself a menu item at Nacho Hippo. I was going to say this food tastes like something your grandmother (not your abuela) would cook, but "taste" implies this food had a flavor. We ended up coming to this place twice. The first time my wife and I were just looking for something light because we weren't that hungry. We ended up splitting a Burrito, which was huge and enough for both of us. The second time, we came with our appetites ready. I had the The chimichanga, which was a little doughy. I sent it back, and got one of the best chimichangas I have ever eaten. I had the pulled pork with a side of queso. I believe the first time my chimichanga was underdone was because the cheese was smothering the chimi. The wife had a couple of the three dollar special margaritas. They were small and said she couldn't taste any alcohol. I still drove home anyway. The wife had a fish taco and a regular taco, both served and soft flour tortillas. She said they were both very good and would get them again. I did have a "rock lobsta" taco with mango habanero salsa. I don't think I would get that again. Full bar service with a generous offering of domestic and micro beers. For you Cornhole enthusiasts, they have a board and bags set up outside on the patio. read more

We arrived and there were a lot of people waiting to be seated. We luckily were able to get in right away because we only needed a table for 2. Once seated, it felt like we waited a good 10 minutes before someone came to wait on us. Once the waitress finally started our order, things progressed. We really looked forward to the nachos more so because nacho is in the restaurant name. So how could the nachos be "just okay", if it seems to be their specialty? I'm not a fan of spicy foods - and the nachos were HOT. To the point where water wasn't even the slightest bit soothing, and I had finished my tacos. So we paid, and I left with my eyes watering like a faucet, and my nose running down my face. I looked like a mess. No where on the menu did it say the type of nachos we ordered had any super spicy items in it. That was a huge disappointment to me.
