I absolutely loved this place! There are actually 2 vegetarian protein options - vegetarian chorizo and tofu sofritas. I would normally feel lucky if a place had just one of those, so this was amazing! And, you can get so many different options with either of them--like enchiladas, burritos, tacos, or nachos. It was hard to decide, but I ended up getting a burrito with sofritas and added guac to it. I got the spicy salsa on the side. I absolutely loved my burrito, and the salsa was so fresh and delicious too. This was 10x better than Chipotle, and I actually really like Chipotle. The person at the register was so friendly as well and gave me some advice for my trip, as I was just passing through town. I saw that one old review stated that this place is cash only, but they do take cards now. I also liked that, from what I could tell, you can choose to get your food for dine-in on real dishes; it's not in disposable containers unless you ask for it to-go. I highly recommend this place, especially for vegetarians and vegans. I wish I could go back! read more

Super good food and a pretty good sized menu. So far Ive had tacos and a burrito that were both authentic and fantastic! I've only been there a couple of times because they not open a lot, but I plan to go back for more. Pleasantly surprised, since we have been disappointed by one Mexican restaurant after another in California. Their burritos were pretty amazing. We think that their burritos are as good as Chipotle's and that's actually saying a great deal. I actually think they are better. They give you choices of beans and unlike chipotle's, they don't smother their guacamole in onions. Delicious. It is a walk up, but they offer a covered back patio with a surf board for a table, which is fine for a few people. I also love the name of their establishment. It reminds of that idiotic show my parents liked to watch back in the 80s or 90s with the dinosaur family. My dad always thought it was funny that the baby dinosaur would also tell its mother, "You're not the momma!" Even though I thought the TV show was lame, it brought back a happy memory of my dad. I freaking love Nacho Mama! It's a little hole in the wall behind a gas station but if you happen to see it I recommend you give it a try. They make organic Mexican food that will fill you up for sure. I'm going to go as far as to say it's the best food you can get in Garberville. I'd go there more often if it was closer but I usually hit it up on my way home from a river trip otherwise it's a little out of the way. I have eaten in their back area, they have a few tables and a bathroom, but I prefer/suggest that you eat in your car due to the flies. It's a clean place don't get me wrong, but when you add heat and a trash can your going to attract critters. read more

Organic Mexican food sounds fine, but I wasn't impressed. I got 2 chicken tacos $6.75 & an Ginger Ale to eat in the back where there's a few tables. The corn tortilla it came with was pretty awful tasting to me, lots of lettuce, some cheese, didn't have any guacamole in mine though it was suppose to I think, lots of shredded chicken. We were famished after driving across the state on only breakfast, so we stopped here (out of necessity, frankly). The service was horribly slow. There were three of us in my party and we each had time to finish our entire meal during the time it took for the next one to receive their food. It wasn't even busy. They also don't seem to care in what order you arrive because they immediately served someone else the same enchilada meal that one of my friends ordered, even though my friend had been waiting for at least 15 minutes prior to that. They microwaved their enchiladas anyway so why selectively make people wait? Chef Mike Rowave did a good job at heating the food, however it was the worst food I've had; possibly ever. None of us enjoyed our meals (nachos, enchilada, and burrito were ordered) The decorations are a tacky, confused, hybrid between surfer hut, Hawaii, and Mexico even though the whole menu is Tex-Mex-based (?). To put the cherry on the top, I got food poisoning from the nachos (interesting that even their namesake food wasn't good quality). read more

The name rocks, but the food and environs are just mas-o-menos. Go here for the name, so you can make endless that's "Naaatcho Mammaa" jokes while sippin on BYOB cerveza to be purchased from the gas station across the street. Do not accept naked river swimming invitations from local hippies. Do order the nachos, because they are the name sake. The chips are the round gringo version that come out of a gigantical bag bought at discount. The rest is a pile of beans, grated yellow cheese, canned black olives, a dollop of sour cream and a small Tbsp of guac. Do drink beer with the nachos. This will distract you from all flies and bees swarming around the semi enclosed overhang dinning area. Burritos scare me, but my friend got one, which was the size of a normal person's forearm, and ate it all with a smile while swatting the bees. You can continue making Nacho Mama jokes for days. We got off the exit to Garberville because it was the first exit with signs of food after hours of driving. The Nacho Mama's shack stood out in this small town like a hot pink sore thumb. The ladies working were hilarious, fun and very informative. Everything, including drinks were organic. I ordered the beef enchilada. It was damn good. The patio in the back of the shack was wildly decorated, creating a fun atmosphere. Highly recommend stopping in if you are in the area! read more

The food was surprisingly good here! Wasn't sure being in a tiny town but yum yum yum. We got stranded in Garberville because a tanker turned over & the only roads out were closed due to snow. So this comfort food hit the spot. I got the surfin beef burrito w/green tomatillo sauce & he got a HUGE regular burrito. The guacamole(not pictured bec it was on the side) was FANTABULOUS. Salsa was very fresh too. Each burrito was enough for 2 good size servings. Took about 10min but there was only 1 order in front of us. Would come back here for sure. Parking is very tight so walk if within reasonable distance. There's no sit down area except outside patio so be prepared to stand outside & wait to hear your name called. read more

How can you not like that name? Nacho Mama, fantastic! We were driving back from Shelter Cove where we had just gotten off of the Lost Coast Trail after 4 days of backpacking and we were looking for something hearty, warm, and spicy. This place satisfied every craving. There was a ton of meet in my steak burrito, and the spicy salsa will burn your lips if you are not careful! yum. :) However, I have to say that the best thing about it was the friendly service. We had a bit of a weird situation. We needed food to take with us to our B&B that night for dinner. the place we were staying was out in the middle of nowhere and didn't have a kitchen. But we still wanted to have something other than a quick meal that night. We asked quite a few people if they had any recommendations and no one was helpful. Finally we stumbled across this place and they were more than happy to work with us. They gave us suggestions, and made sure that the food was packaged so that it wouldn't get soggy or ruined on our drive. Good food and friendly people, who could ask for more?! read more

Always our lunch stop when going down to the river or Humboldt Redwoods. They are always friendly and accommodating. I get a giant vegan surf burrito with half and half green and red sauce. They are generous with the guac. We always sit in the back patio which is clean and nicely decorated. Freshly prepared, reasonable prices, and homemade lemonade. Yum. read more

I feel like i just got ripped off. Despite being listed cheaper with no meat on the menu, I was charged $11.50 for VEGETARIAN nachos. I didn't realize until I left that I had been overcharged, but hoped they would be good enough to make up for it. Nope! Nachos came out quick but were a mass of only slightly melted cheese. The cheese was stringy and disgusting, piled on the top of the clearly store bought chips, many of which were bare.The "hot" salsa was mild at best.The guac was fine, thank god. I was trying to support a local business instead of Taco Bell, but I left having spent more money and feeling less satisfied than I would have been. If your business is named Nacho Mama, the nachos better be good!!! Not coming back as I was overcharged and it was gross. Considering they charged me the same price as nachos with meat, I wish I had gotten chicken so it would have been more worth it. read more
