Ah! I thought I had reviewed this place before. Maybe I left it on a different platform, I'm not sure. Anyways, this is the only place I've gotten my nails done in Los Angeles and I won't be going anywhere else! First of all, I've always been very pandemic conscious, and I appreciated how diligent and clean Janis's place was with pandemic precautions. It's usually just her working, so you're only engaging with one person which I love more than a crowded salon. The attention to detail is impeccable. I love that she gives a discount for Occidental workers which is wonderful and this is just my favorite place to go. Always book in advance... I usually book 2 or three appointments at a time. Spaced out when I'm thinking about it. She usually doesn't have last-minute availability because people are regulars, and they book up far in advance. Uhmm... I waited forever to come here to get my nails done. I'm so glad it survived Covid considering the beauty industry was unfairly targeted by our governor, but that's neither here nor there in this review. I love, love, love the ambiance, the service, and the end result, my nails! A huge plus is it is both woman and minority owned. I am less partial to it being vegan, but I do love that my life isn't being cut short by the smell of cheap polish! Each month I've gone in to get a custom gel nail art piece created by Janis and I'm grateful she's into doing whatever because I make decisions all the time. It's nice when a decision can be made for me because I trust her vision for me for the month. read more

I love that Janis has ventured to make this space her own! I originally went to her when the space was Handcraft & Hart (salon and nails) and am so glad that she took the opportunity to take the space over when the salon moved to a new location. I love that it does not smell like chemicals here and has a very chill and inviting vibe. I typically get the vegan gel manicures which last me 2-3 weeks and will come back to get them soaked off too. Parking is free street parking in front of the store or around the block. read more

Janis is such an amazing technician! We had a really great experience here, and she was so accommodating for some modifications we needed. The interior was beautiful, bright, and very calming. The massage and scrub was very relaxing and I really appreciated that Janis took her time and didn't rush the experience. I would highly recommend trying this salon! One of the first things I did after my second vaccine dose was fully gestated was make an appointment to get my nails done. I searched for a place nearby that offered booking online, as well as a cruelty-free and vegan products. Janis offers both! After a year of being holed up inside, I'm still practicing my "being outside" personality, so in the meantime, it's nice to have an online option for booking while I remember how to person again. I also have autoimmune, so the gentler, vegan products are often better for my paper thin nails and sensitive skin and I appreciate that Janis has thought of this, not only in the products she offers but also in the scrubs and lotions she makes herself. Janis is an artist. Not just in the consideration she puts into her work, but the time she invests in you and your service. I enjoyed my time with Janis so much that it literally flew by and I completely forgot about the audio book I downloaded. Other Amazing Things About Nail Kitchen: - I'm a crazy Virgo and I need my fingers to match my toes and, without me even asking, Jaimie spent 20 minutes finding the perfect non-gel polish to match my gel polish. And then Janis made sure there were enough coats of each that they looked the same. - There are only two clients in at a time right now to make social distancing comfortable and easy. Also, your temperature is taken before you come in, which I know everyone has to do, but I always appreciate when people follow protocol and think of your safety. - Janis had her pedicure chairs custom-designed to keep both her and the client comfortable. I CANNOT UNDERSTATE HOW THOUGHTFUL THAT IS. I've been to many salons that have you sitting for so long in a super awkward position while getting your pedicure that you leave with your abs on fire. These chairs are so comfy that the pedicure really feels decadent and relaxing. - Two hour parking right out front and down the whole street! Nail Kitchen is just such a wonderful place and Janis is truly the best. Go treat yourself. read more

I've been going to Nail Kitchen by Janis for most of the year, and I highly recommend Janis and Lily! I have sensitive nails and skin, but I've gotten vegan polish and gels done here and I always have a wonderful experience. There's so many polish options to choose from! The space is bright, clean, and calm. There isn't the typical nail salon smell, and Janis is always so welcoming and kind. Lily, who regularly does my gel mani-pedis, is so thoughtful and friendly. this is a charming and cozy nail salon in eagle rock. it's adorably decorated and the woman who did my nails was the owner Janis. she did a fantastic job and we had a wonderful conversation throughout. it's clear that she cares about her clients and creating a comfortable space for them. the experience here was not the least bit rushed, very relaxing, and since they don't do acrylics, the salon doesn't have that terrible chemical smell. Janis has even made the height of the salon chairs and tables to be higher than average so they are more comfortable to sit in for longer periods of time. highly recommend this place and will be back! read more

I booked an appointment to get my nails done before a trip, but unfortunately something came up and she had to re-schedule me. She was so flexible and went out of her way to make sure to get me in before I left, even upgrading my service because of the inconvenience. Janis is awesome! I'm always really excited whenever it's time for my appointments with her because she's not only extremely detailed and gives wonderful quality manicures, but she's also hilarious. I fell in love with one of her designs in advance of my wedding and she helped me to grow my nails out and do the exact design for the day - I never thought I'd be able to achieve it without extensions but because of her advice and the quality of her work, I was able to do it! I love Janis, her shop, and what she does with my feet! Her shop is clean, cute, and NO chemical smell when you walk in.
