My usual salon was fully booked, so I decided to try Sage and see if they had any openings. Luckily, I was able to get a gel manicure within a couple of hours. Everything looked fine at first, but the very next day (Monday), one of the nails started chipping. I didn't think much of it since it was just one nail. By Wednesday, however, three more nails had chipped. I immediately submitted a message through their website, which clearly stated to expect a response within 48 hours. When I didn't hear back, I called today (Monday) and explained the situation to the girl who answered. She asked how I had reached out, and when I told her through the website, she said I should have called instead. Honestly, that's pretty frustrating since calling is always hit or miss, and apparently no one even checks the messages submitted online. I know so, because the girl said it herself. I've been here about 5 times now for a gel overlay manicure + regular pedicure, and every time, it's 100% perfect. The overlay has never chipped and my (real, long) nails have never broken or cracked. I've gotten services from a few different women and all of them are kind, professional, and have an unbelievable thoroughness and attention to detail, not to mention a really cool style. They seem to really care about doing high quality work. The ambience of the place is perfection. The furniture, decor, potted plants, lighting, and music are all tasteful and make the perfect relaxing vibe. Every detail is stylish down to the amber bottles they have their products in. I truly liked this place and was delighted when I got a gift certificate from the parent of one of my students. The certificate was for a regular manicure, but since I don't do manicures, I asked when I made the appointment if I could apply it to a pedicure. They accepted and booked the appointment for the pedicure. I went in on a Sunday morning. My technician was about twenty minutes late, but did an OK job, even though my 45-minute appointment ended a full 45 minutes later than scheduled. When I went to check out, I handed them the gift certificate. Since I had booked and paid (service and tip) online, they would need to credit me the amount of the certificate. They told me that when it was bought (December 2024), it was for $35, but the manicures had gone up to $40. I understood and said to just credit me the $35. They couldn't do it at the moment, but said they would later in the day. I took a quick photo of the certificate and left the original with them. Days went by and there was no credit. I called and explained the situation and they said they didn't know who the gift certificate was for - that they would credit it right then. Later in the day I checked my bank account and they had credited me $15, a full $20 less than the gift certificate. Since I couldn't resolve it on the phone or get over there to talk with them, I sent them a letter explaining the situation. Nothing. No response, phone call, or credit. It's been two weeks. So, now I am considering telling the parent who bought the certificate and letting her know that she paid $35 and they only honored $15 of it. Maybe SHE is owed the $20 since obviously they aren't going to credit me. This is an ugly situation that doesn't have to be. I don't know if I can ever go back. read more

What a gem of a place. It's so cute and quaint. Feels like spa day. I got my haircut by Sevina and she is a true professional. She spent time giving me a consultation before she even got to work. She listen to what I wanted, told me the truth about how it would work with my hair type and color, etc. then she got to work and I was OBSESSED with the outcome. Obviously, I love that they use all natural products and the people there are super nice. However, the job they did on my nails was really subpar: -She didn't use any cuticle remover, just clipped my cuticles the tiniest bit. This means, only a week later, you can already see where my nails are growing out because she didn't push the cuticles back far enough. The cuticles are also really dry. I never had this problem at my usual place. -She didn't get the polish all the way to the ends or up to the cuticle so it looks sloppy. They also have very few colors available so that was a bummer. If they wanna charge prices like this, they need to do at least as good a job as every day nail salons read more

Such an exciting addition to the neighborhood-- a nail salon using only organic/non-toxic polishes, with a great vibe, owned and operated by longtime residents of Highland Park. They don't seem to have a website yet, but you can check them out on IG. I made an appointment over the phone to get pedicures with a friend, and it was great. We just went in for the basics, but they def do full nail art and gels and all that kind of stuff. Beautiful work, reasonably priced. Another plus, with all the doors and windows, it feels more like being in a breezy, enclosed porch than being inside-- very Covid-friendly in terms of air circulation, etc. Also just really enjoyed chatting with the owners/nail techs. This is a smaller operation-- two pedi chairs, three mani chairs, and no more than 2-3 people working at a time-- so I recommend calling ahead to get an appointment. And you do have to call, unfortch. No online system yet. But well worth it! Especially if you live in Highland Park. Feels like a real gift having these ladies just right down the street. I've been coming here for quiet some time but am disappointed at my last visit. It had happened once before but I let it slide. I came in for a manicure and selected a color off the table where nail polishes are placed. Came to find out that I had chosen a regular polish but wanted gel. My girl then advised she'd pick a gel in a similar color..she provided me with two different bottles/colors, I selected one and she then pointed to the other bottle and stated they're the same color. I said ok.. but come to find out she had chosen the bio gel which is $60 for a manicure. I had no idea that polish was more, it was not a cool move. Clearly I am aware that I'm going to spend more here than other nearby nail salons. But $60 for a manicure is not what I went in thinking I was going to spend. I also must say stations are dusty and could use a deep cleaning all around. Sad that I will have to find a new place. Loved that this was an all womxn, latinx owned space. After months I went back because I truly did like to go here. My person to go to is jazmin and she does great work, so i went back.. while doing my manicure the owner paulette came up to me and called me out on my review .. she talked me during my manicure and said she would have appreciated if I went to her directly rather posting the mediocre review. And I agree.. i would have but she wasn't there on the day i was charged. A simple solution is to post prices so that it all could be transparent. To have that conversation while other clients were around and I'm giving your business a second chance and supporting your business is not only tacky but super unprofessional. You should not be going up to your clientele and attacking them in front of everyone. I was so embarrassed for the way you handled it. I hope I am an isolated circumstance and you treat people better for bringing up a valid comment upon receiving a service. I've haven't been back since and sadly wont ever go back. read more

I requested the $50 gel manicure as listed on their services menu, then I get to the end of my appointment and they charge me $65 for bio sculpture gel, which feels absurdly overpriced for single color on short, natural nails. They also cut open my finger when trimming my cuticles, to the point where it kept bleeding through the next day, and the manicure is already chipping after only a few days. Save your money and go literally anywhere else - price is not reflected in the quality of service. read more

I am in love with this nail salon I have been coming since they first opened, the girls that work at Sage are always so friendly. I don't usually get this type of treatment at other salons. I made a 10am appointment for a gel manicure. I never get my nails done and this was my first time at this salon. I was excited since it's organic and non toxic and I've been searching for a place. I show up and pick my colors. I wanted to do a heart on 1 finger each hand since Valentine's Day is coming up. The girl said she wasn't sure if she'd have time and I told her if not it's fine and I can do a solid color. We get started and she says she has time for one heart each hand which is fine since that's what I wanted anyways. She didn't talk much and she didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I get it was pretty early and maybe she was having a rough day but it wasn't exactly the most welcoming and friendly vibe from her. She finished up and says "okay" and gets up and starts cleaning up without asking me what I think or anything. The hearts are uneven and sloppy and I wanted them facing the other way (towards me) but she never asked me or gave me a chance to say anything. I go over to pay and its $55 for gel manicure which I expected and their website says nail art starting at $10. They charged me $30 for the one heart on each hand. I then tipped $15 which made my total $100. I got in my car and cried since I was so excited and so let down. I called the salon later in the afternoon explaining the situation and asking if they could redo the 2 hearts. They said they would have a manager or owner call me back. Surprise surprise, they never did. I'm not one to complain about services and I don't think I'm very picky but this looked like a 10 year old could have done it. The solid color nails look fine & the salon is nice and clean which is why I gave it 2 stars. Update: Paulette the owner called back and offered to fix them. She was extremely nice and made me feel comfortable since I get so shy and awkward when I'm unhappy with a service she did a great job and I would definitely go back just cause of that customer service. My crome nails are not as great as I thought they would. The girls there are so sweet and really nice, now I would have someone done my toes with more experience. I when I first had call to make the appointment I had said to them it was my first time coming to them and I wanted to have a mani and pedi. My biggest request was to have really clean up my nails and toes but they really weren't. I jad waited to have these done because I wanted to experience the organic way and the prisice way of these experience. Sadly it wasn't. I am not happy with the work done to me even though the girl helping me did as much as she could, but I know that she didn't have the experience to do what I thought I was going to get.
