I live in San Jose and I'm only in the Castro Valley area to visit my boyfriend. I will endure a few days or even a weeks of yucky looking nails because I just love this salon and refuse to go anywhere else. I've gotten pedicures, manicures, full sets, and fills here. My nails never lift, and Cathy, my nail technician is just amazing. I've returned to the salon after getting my nails done because I messed them up, or I ended up not liking the color and she has fixed it for free, even when it's days later. I really don't know how this salon has a 4 star rating. I went here on Thursday December 1st and it was the worst decision I have ever made. I was a walk in and got assigned to an older Asian lady. I sat down in her chair and she was really nice to me but didn't know that she was capable of ripping all my skin off. I asked to get a gel manicure done and as she started her process it got to the point when they cut your cuticles and this lady just couldn't stop ripping my skin. I will post pictures for people who don't believe me and now I think one of my fingers are infected. She did a very nasty job on my nails. She filed them down all the way down to the meat of my finger. And put gel all over my nail touching the cuticles and skin on the sides of my nail. When I told her how the gel is stuck to my skin she didn't understand what I was saying. She just proceeded to do what she was doing. I then called over one of the other workers and she just buffed my nail with he gel and put another top coat and put my finger back into the machine. This salon is very dirty and very careless. I really dont like to come on yelp and complain about places I go to but I feel like everyone really needs to know that their quality on how to do gel manicures are really bad! And guess what the gel manicure didn't even last me more then 3 days. It's all chipped and I eventually had to get it all taken off. Now my nails are in pain and all cut up. PRICE - average ($45 for mani/pedi) QUALITY - mani was good, pedi below average ATMOSPHERE - shop was very crowded and noisy; lots of cross-talk between the nail technicians (not in English), some of which seemed to be about customers (perhaps not uncommon, but still rude and unprofessional); large fish tank with water so cloudy-green that you couldn't see all of the fish MANI (by Kay) - began while I was in the pedi chair which is common, but I prefer to relax in the massage chair instead of twisting to the side for her to reach my hand - she never really greeted me since she was talking on the phone while she worked; she scraped my nails way too much (to remove the old gel polish) rather than allowing them to soak longer with the polish remover in the foil (turns out there was plenty of time for that since she stopped in the middle to do another manicure, then completed mine after my pedi); the hand/arm/shoulder massage included with the mani was the best I've ever received in a nail salon; once I asked her to fix two nails that were cut/filed crookedly, the final result looks nice; seems it will last, but it's only been a few days so I cannot say for sure PEDI (by Karen, I believe was her name but we had a language barrier) - she nicked me a few times while cutting nails/cuticles and filing (no blood, but several sore spots afterwards); again the massage included with the pedi was much better and more thorough than I've ever received at a nail salon; the edges of my toenails are not smooth and some are crooked; polish job was ok, but not much better than I could do myself; she was pleasant and seemed eager to please, but the final result wasn't what I was hoping for FINAL THOUGHTS - I would only recommend this nail salon for the awesome massages included with both the mani & pedi. Just came from getting a deluxe mani/pedi -it was wonderful! Was helped by two ladies, one of them tried to help me put on my own sandals when she scraped one of my toes. I got a shellac manicure and it was amazing! I have never had such great service!! It is also very reasonably priced. I normally pay between $35 and $50 for a shellac manicure but they have a reasonable $25. It turned out beautiful and lasted much longer than the last one I got. I would recommend this location!! The only warning I have is to show up like 10 minutes before your appointment for parking. There is a starbucks and subway with only 7 spots in the whole parking lot. read more

I've been to several different nail salons over the years trying to find a good one and this place is by far the best! Great customer service and they do both manicures and pedicures at the same time (as long as they are not slammed) so you don't have to be there forever. I would advise calling ahead and making an appointment to come in as they do get very busy, since they are so good, especially on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. First, I love how my acrylic nails came out. They are thin like my real nails. However, I got gel polish and it peeled the next day. I went back and they touched it up. Finally, I found nail shop in Castro Valley that is worth praise!!! I have tried a few local nail shops, but never truly satisfied. Having acrylic nails for many years and a faithful customer to a nail shop in Dublin, I really wanted to find a shop close to home that was priced reasonably, but most importantly did a good job and cared to do a good job for customers. Although I really like Anna at Anna Nails on the boulevard and have gone to her a few times, the quality does not justify the price for a pink/white fill of $35+. Nails were wide not shaped well and started lifting after a few days. The past year, I went to Jenny at Linda's nail salon (located by the CV bowling alley), but not satisfied especially after my last appointment. Many issues regarded her quality and it was time to find another nail shop. After reading the yelp reviews, I decided to make an appt with Michael. Well, I am beyond pleased. He is good and takes pride in doing a good job. He had to remove the acrylic from four nails because they were lifting, chipped or cracked because Jenny applied the acrylic to thick near the cuticle or to paper thin at the tip. Keep in mind, I do not go beyond two weeks for a fill either. Her technique and quality were simply poor. Now, my nails look natural and shaped perfectly. A vast improvement from previous nail shops and near the quality I am use too, possibly better. He is very friendly, speaks well and engages in conversation. The price for a fill $20+ (pink only) and $35 (pink/white). The quality and atmosphere is a far cry from Linda's nail salon, there is no comparison. Parking can be a challenge, but when you finally find what they are looking for, the inconvenience is trivial and well worth it. read more

All right guys, here's the deal. I moved to this area a couple years ago and can walk to the salon (bonus as there is limited parking in the lot - glad I don't have to deal with that). The work that the ladies do is really 5 stars, I've always walked out of there happy with my nails. The experience, however, has always left me uncomfortable. First of all, they don't accept credit cards. That's understandable - they want to keep as much money in their pockets as possible. When I said I would be right back to get some money from the ATM that is LITERALLY across the street, they made a big fuss about it to the point where I nearly felt like leaving something as collateral so they knew I was coming back. Where is the trust? Another time I went in for a gel manicure. I could feel the people talking about me, but I don't speak Vietnamese, so I wasn't sure until one of the manicurist translated that my nails were thin and weak. Great, tell me something I don't know, but tell it to ME, not to your colleagues in front of me yet behind my back. Really annoying. When I went back to get my gel manicure removed, they did it for free which was really nice. I heard other people charge. When I asked how much it was going to be, they just said thank you and see you next time. All right, that pacified the negative feelings I felt about being spoken about just a couple weeks earlier. Moving on to today. The manicurist was amazing. Truly, outstanding work. I wish all the ladies were as respectful as she was, but unfortunately the language barrier made for some uncomfortable exchanges. The lady who did my pedicure attempted to give my purse to another lady after she just took it out from behind my spa chair. What? Then, she told me (not asked me) to move to the drying station (so someone else could use my chair) but she hadn't yet put on the top coat. She motioned to just walk across the salon as is... BAREFOOT. No thanks. She was carrying my sandals and I asked her to please put them on. Does she not see that I do not want to walk across a wet tiled floor and a carpet where people wear their shoes after having a pedicure which left my feet clean? That one really did me in. In summary, go for the great work that they do and see for yourself if you can tolerate some of the other customer services issues. I am moving out of the area and won't particularly miss this place. read more

Ohmygosh! I love this place! I made and an appointment just to make sure they had time for me. The second that I walked in, they asked for my name and immediately helped me. I got a gel pedicure since I am leaving tomorrow for Cabo for my brother's beach wedding. The pedi is gorgeous!!! I wish I knew the ladys name that worked on me- she is fantastic! I'm actually going back today after work to get a matching manicure. To my surprise the pedi was only $30. I was expecting it to be $40+ since it was gel, and most google searches say to expect to pay 40+. I, like most people have a strange pinky toe nail situation- I don't have a nail that grows there. I have a hole where it is supposed to come from- but no nail. She made it look like I have "normal" feet. I usually go to Diamond on Redwood Road but I feel that their service has dropped lately. I have ugly feet and this place made them gorgeous! NAIL SALON is my new place and they're great! I hate to do this but...I've been going to this salon for a couple of years. I'm a regular. I've recommended them and brought friends. Today I stopped in without an appointment to request a "repair" on 3 nails. First of all, I wasn't greeted...only watched Kelly check the appointment book. After 5 minutes, she asked if she could "help me". When I told her I needed a repair, she literally frowned and told me I'd have to "wait a long time". Nothing else. She kept working on her client. Then I said, I'll take an appointment to come back. NO RESPONSE. I noticed that all the girls that work there were not smiling. There was a terse conversation between Kelly and one of the other girls. It seemed like something was wrong in the shop. Not my problem. I do NOT expect to be treated that way. And, I will NOT go back. They need to keep their bad moods to themselves. read more
