Booked Moon, Got Jennifer... and Sore Feet (But Great Toes) I've been to The Nailery many times and usually book with Moon, who always does a great job. When I called and asked, "Does Moon have availability today?" the person on the phone said yes, and we booked for 2:30. When I arrived, I was brought straight to the chair. That's normal--sometimes someone else sets you up while your tech wraps up with someone else. But after about 10 minutes of Jennifer working on me, I realized I still hadn't seen Moon. That's when it hit me--Jennifer must've thought I said "Do you have availability today?" instead of "Does Moon have availability today?". Easy misunderstanding--lol. The good news is Jennifer did a solid job. My pedicure looked great--and you'll just have to take my word for it, because I'm not posting foot pics online. That's just not happening. Now for a few things to note: She nicked me slightly--not terrible because it seems to happen no matter who I go to, but worth mentioning. I also told her ahead of time that the tops of my feet are very tender, and asked her not to massage that area. We even talked about why. But partway through the massage, she went right back to putting pressure on it. I didn't feel like repeating myself, so I walked out with sore foot tops, even though everything looked great. The ambience is bright and clean. There are 10 pedicure chairs, some of the massage buttons don't work, mine was still comfortable enough, there are four TVs, and no magazines--but honestly, no one's missing them. I got the Deluxe Pedi Spa. The massage wasn't amazing, but the polish and detail work were great. Pro Tip: Call or book online--this place gets busy. Even with an appointment, you might still wait. My last visit, I waited 35 minutes past my appointment time. But I think that just shows how much people like this place--they're willing to wait. So even though it wasn't Moon, and my feet were sore in the end, the pedicure turned out great. I'd absolutely see Jennifer again--now that I know who I'm booking with. read more

Welcome to Hawaii Kai! This second location is a welcome addition to Hawaii Kai Town Center as I've been to the town location before and they are always so busy even with an appointment. Looking in this location still had several ladies getting their pedicure which what I always do to take care of my neglected feet (which the technician suggested as it's really bad) but no one doing manicure so I decided to walk in and ask...no problem! Walking in it seems nice and clean though it looked a bit dated, the manicure tools was kept in like a wood stationary cup and as she dropped a nail file picked it up and put it back in, just some of the vibes here does make me cringe. I wanted a gel manicure she never asked what type (basic, spa or deluxe) and never inform me of any pricing but it was already late in the day and I'm happy that I could get it done. I did get the basic which I think is $20 and wanted gel with fade (which is additional $30 I think) and though they didn't have much color choices in gel I did find one that I wanted "Champagne Winter". My nails go through hell at work so I don't do it much often since I get a lot of breakage from that but with a upcoming even I decided they needed it. Though they seem to do all the enhancements and various designs she never asked if I wanted additional treatment or upgrades and didn't give the spa vibe that I get at some locations but with places that do take walk ins it does make that spontaneous decision a sparkly one and I appreciate it. I've given this place a chance over and over again as it's right by my house and they always have flexible availability so it seems to work out.... the last few times I've gotten my regular classic gel manicure there, half the nails are spoiled in just a few days - and or most definitely by the next week! I know from experience elsewhere that my gel manicures I like to get last up to a month staying flawless, but not here. and then, this is the worst of it...2 days ago, I go in to receieve 10% off for my birthday pedicure as just the week prior I got my gel manicure ( that's already TRASHED AND PEELING ) and I received a text saying I can get my 10% off as it's my birthday week... I ask for my basic French tip pedicure as I always do at any old salon, They let me walk out like this!! ( I asked for them to make the big toes tip thinner and by the end of them "making it thinner" and allowing them to dry completely, I realized at the end that this is what the finished results were.. they even looked intently at it and said I'm pau and good to go. Also did not receive the 10% off for my birthday like they offered in promo texts on top of it all. I didn't even want to go back here to ask them to fix it just cause I've completely lost all trust and respect for them. Also a couple months ago, got a gel manicure, paid in cash and needed a lot of change back. The tech processing this cash transaction literally kept at least $20 of my change back without my consent of a tip, and I just walked out because I wasn't gonna deal with the language barrier and extra waste of energy cause the $20 was not worth it to me to hassle over and clearly she needed it more than me. I'm officially done with this salon but well wishes to them. DO NOT COME HERE. In general I like to go to nail salons to get something done that I cannot do at home. I could have done this at home for $80 less. I will not be returning to this establishment. It was also unsanitary as she used cuticle clippers and then put cap back on and into the desk to be used at a future time with no sanitation Should have stuck to Hawaii kai nails and spa which always does a great job! Had Phi Phi as a tech and wanted a design done. She paid 0 attention to detail and the pics I showed her. She clearly was not comfortable with the designs I showed her and should have just told me upfront she was unable to do this and I could have waited for another technician. Pictures of what I requested below and what I got. Even my boyfriend could tell they were terrible which is how you know it was extra bad. She did not charge me the extra for the gel on the manicure as she knew I was not happy which I appreciated. The coats are very uneven though and upset that I paid for something I immediately removed. I found this place on yelp and decided to try it out based on all the good reviews, extremely glad I did! My family needed to get their nails done and I needed to fix just my pinky toe after stubbing it. They took care of us right away and it was nice that they weren't busy and pretty much had the shop to ourselves. Dexter is the owner and he is amazing at what he does! He's been in the business for about 30 years and flies all over to do nails for his clients which include Miss America and Miss Universe clientele! How a 45 minute Herbal Foot massage turned into a 2 hour back, neck, shoulder, and foot massage... Before Jessica P. left Honolulu, a bunch of us bought Groupons to go with her on a Pirate Ship Cruise. Unfortunately, COVID-19 happened and we were able to trade our Groupons for something else as the cruise was canceled. I chose to go to The Nailery for a relaxing experience because I have a lot of stress in my life. Salons recently opened back up in Hawaii, so, I called to make an appointment. The massage lady's first day back to work was June 2. I picked a 2pm time slot and patiently waited for the day to arrive. On the day of the appointment, Anita called me to ask if I could come earlier at 1pm since she had a 3pm appointment that would overlap. I called back and left a message that 1pm would be fine. She texted and called me again because she didn't get my message. I texted back that I was on my way. PARKING: there's a free parking lot that's shared with Papa John's and Teddy's Bigger Burgers. Enter the lot from Makaloa Street. ENVIRONMENT: clean, comfortable, and cozy. Anita showed me to the private massage room with dimmed lighting. Soothing music played in the background. The chair reclined flat into a bed with a hole for the face (so customers can breathe when laying face down)! SERVICE: Anita was friendly and knowledgeable. She seemed confident and experienced. She explained that the feet are connected to the body, so, for a better result, add on the back/neck and shoulder massage for $70 more. As her strong hands pressed into my tight muscles, she reassured me it hurts right now because it was my first time with her. Anita encouraged me to return once a week for 3 weeks, then once a month after that to improve my circulation. I'm still debating on whether or not to return. I sure feel bruised after this session. My headache did go away - maybe because she gave me a small bottle of water to drink on the spot. When I got home, I took a hot shower as instructed. Just remembering the intense, sharp pain, the slapping, leg stretching, and pounding during the 2 hours makes me not want to go back. She did ask if I could "handle it" and I powered through... Notes: I kept all of my clothes on. I removed my glasses, jewelry, and face mask. She used a sheet to cover me and work on me. For the foot massage, she had "hands on" and used a neutral, unscented lotion.
