I found this place because I was searching for matcha and Thai tea. And I saw this place has matcha flights! I unfortunately couldn't do the flight this time around because I knew I needed to eat but plan on trying it next time. I liked that this was in a shopping center so plenty of parking. The decor is perfect for those who love taking pictures whether just of the food and drinks or of yourself as well. The staff are all very nice and the food and drinks came out fast. We tried the steam dumplings, crispy duck kra prao, chicken basil fried rice, salted caramel cloud red Thai tea, and cookie butter matcha. Really loved the drinks. The dumplings you have to dip in the sauce or it does taste a little bland. Sauce brings out the flavors and texture. The fried rice was very yummy and the duck was great reheated. I couldn't finish my dish as my drink and appetizer filled me up. This will be on my list of places to try again.

The Nalak Matcha Flight is cute and a bit gimmicky but it's a lot of fun. Matcha is ok quality and the mango and strawberry uses oat milk, no substitutes allowed. I liked the coconut cloud and Thai tea, but it's really just a fun drink. You don't need high quality matcha for it. The color was a bit dull, but it doesn't really matter when it becomes a sweet drink. Their food is better in my opinion. The Thai Beef Steak special is good, a fair amount of meat and veggies with a lovely teriyaki-flavor savory sauce. The veggies were wet though and watered down the sauce though. The panang curry is not too creamy. Both great with rice. The grilled skewers were good and well grilled and came with a warmed sweet and sour sauce. Overall, a good spot but nothing too special. They have a lot of different items to choose from and lots of matcha options, but I would not say anything was necessarily high quality at the price point. I do want to try the black sesame matcha next time.

Pretty quick and attentive service and experience! I enjoyed my food and drink here. I enjoyed the tiramisu matcha although was confused at the concept at first, but mixing the tiramisu and matcha was quite good! The duck was tasty and filling - perhaps a bit more pricier than I was expecting though. Good spot for Thai food with nice vibes!

This is my new favorite Thai place in the area! Nalak serves modern Thai cuisine with a twist -- there's a mix of classics, comfort food, and street food. They also have a wide selection of matcha coffees and other coffee/tea drinks to have with your meal. It's not something you usually see at Thai restaurants, and they have several creative options that are worth trying if you're a matcha fan. The service was also excellent. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. Overall, Nalak Thai is a solid spot in Fairfax if you're looking for flavorful Thai food in a modern setting. Definitely a place I'd come back to over and over again!

Thai iced tea with matcha cloud was truly spectacular

Everything was great except we thought from the description of the food we were getting something else. We really need to ask more questions or show a picture. We definitely will be back because our dishes were so tasty. Loved the thai iced tea with the matcha foam. They have so many interesting drinks. Great service too.

4.8/5 Such a cute Thai spot! The interior has soft, warm lighting that makes it perfect for a cozy, casual dinner. The vibe feels intimate and relaxed. The drunken noodles were the standout for me. Super umami, savory, and well-balanced with that perfect sweet-salty-spicy combo. We also tried the red curry. The broth itself was flavorful, but I wish the seafood (especially the shrimp and scallops) had absorbed more of the curry as they tasted a bit separate from the sauce rather than infused with it. Service was excellent, staff very friendly and attentive. They checked in on us multiple times without being overbearing, which I always appreciate. Overall, I'd definitely come back, especially for the drunken noodles.

Found Nalak from instagram and decided to give it a shot! They've only been open for 2.5 months but they are already killing it. The decor and vibes were wonderful, nicely decorated and not overly loud. They are known for their matcha, so our table tried the black sesame, tiramisu and the ube Thai tea. All three were delicious and not overly sweet. To share, we started with the crab rangoon, spring rolls and drunken noodles. All three were very tasty and fresh! For entrees, I got the tom yum mama and my friends got the pork belly, duck and panang curry. The tom yum mama was to die for! Loaded with seafood, noodles and the broth was delectable. Though I didn't try the other dishes, similar reviews came from my friends - everyone loving their dishes! Our waitress was very attentive, kind and helpful with suggestions! We will be back!

The crispy duck kra pow was absolutely delicious and I would come back again and again for this dish. It paired well with the som thum to add a little freshness between the savory-ness of the duck. The crab rangoons were also surprisingly delicious and the sweet sauce paired perfectly with it. The Khao soi was personally not my favorite dish. The soup was on the lighter side and seemed a little watered down. I'm use to this broth being a thicker, richer curry broth. The Thai tea was also very flavorful and well made. Overall I would come back to try some other dishes and drinks on their menu.

Warm atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The nalak (cute) and cozy ambiance made the experience even better. Definitely worth a visit, and I can't wait to come back!

For a Thai restaurant a very good addition to your rotation. Small, like a lot of these good-kitchen Thai spots, with a quick-gloss glow up decor for a simple modern dinner vibe. The unique part compared to most -- go to the back menu and its drinks section of the tea-blends and other options where they stand out. You get the ability to find some nice add ons to really replace any need for any other outing for a bubble-tea or the like, they'll have you covered. On a Friday evening, their small space fills up - so be ready for a potential small wait. Seats do rotate fairly quick for the small table style. A good option for shared plate or whatever singular need you have, while being better than a lot of the other nearby Thai spots.

We had such a great experience at Nalak Thai! The vibes were warm and inviting, and the decorations were beautiful. We ordered the chicken larb, shrimp lo mein noodles, and beef tender noodle soup, plus a tiramisu matcha cloud latte. Everything was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive. We've actually seen her at another restaurant before, and she recognized us right away when we walked in and greeted us, which made us feel so welcomed! Overall, we're very happy with our visit and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

The interior is decorated nicely, spacious, and clean. The workers were also very friendly and attentive! My favorite part was the matcha! There are so many different types of specialty matchas with different fruits and toppings. I really enjoyed my fig matcha! The matcha mousse was better than matcha milk base which was a little grainy. I really like how the matchas come with a fun little gift too! The entrees were good, but a little too sweet for everyone's preference. I think I would definitely come back for the drinks!

    Penang curry with pork belly

Hip and modern little Thai restaurant in the plaza next to Great Wall Chinese supermarket - lots of parking. We came in as a party of 2 on a Friday evening and was able to get a seat right away. The place was filling up and the ambiance is a contemporary low-key vibe, soft hip hop, more of an east coast than west coast feel. We ordered the Penang curry with pork belly and since it was our first time, a Pad Thai with crispy chicken - just to set a baseline. The curry was bomb. Definitely has authenticity, really thick and aromatic - rich with coconut and lots of peanut flavor. Has just enough spice to make the dish tang and enough citrus to brighten the taste. The pairing works really well with the crispy pork belly and broccoli. It comes with a small bowl of rice and just slabbering the curry all over really hits the spot. Extremely well constructed dish. The Pad Thai was quite interesting. It's a bit more pan fried than I'm typically used to (which I personally appreciate) but they add some sort of mystery ingredient that I don't normally encounter in pad Thai . Vinegar? Mint? Lemongrass? It kinda works but thought it was just a tad overpowering, made us measure our bites instead of just wolfing it down like typical pad Thai. The crispy chicken however was phenomenal. They definitely marinate the chicken before breading and crisping it, and it really pops out. Super juicy and compensated for the unexpected pad Thai flavor. It's a bit pricy, but the food itself is well crafted, kudos to chef and team. Nice date night spot, but wouldn't be a regular there. Elevated Thai is an interesting concept that certainly could be a niche. tldr; tasty Thai spot, keeping true to classic favorites while sprinkling in their own modern twists. It's a bit pricey for Thai food, but worth checking out

Their decor is obviously very nice too but it is the food that brings me back. I really like this Sisters Thai, the food is consistent and delicious. The space is very small, maybe 10 tables. There's some parking that might be available in a small lot across the street and a half block away. I ordered Tom Ka Gai soup with Chicken, and Drunken Noodles with beef. Seems simple enough. And yet, there were three issues with these two dishes. I was really hopeful when they brought out my bowl of soup, mostly because it was a BOWL of soup and not the more typical cup-sized serving. The bad news was that the soup was tasteless. It consisted of a watery broth, some chunks of chicken, and a few mushrooms. (Issue #1). The six of us were two or three spoonfuls into our soups when the waiter brought our entrees. I don't know about you, but I like to finish one course before the next one is brought to my table, and I'm faced with having to decide which dish I want to let get cold. (Issue #2) In this case, the choice seemed obvious. I pushed the bowl of soup away and dug into my Drunken Noodles. Like many people, I typically order Drunken Noodles at Thai restaurants. I've had it dozens of times without any problems. I say "Drunken Noodles," they bring it (usually after I've finished my soup or appetizer), and I enjoy it. That's not what happened this time. This time, it was almost too spicy to eat. It was MUCH spicier than any other Drunken Noodles-es I've had. And I wasn't alone; another one of us could only handle a few bites of her food before giving up. (Issue #3) I may give this place another try, and if I do, my visit will include the advice that I just shared with you at the top of this review.

One of the highlights of the night was meeting the owner, Jason. We bonded over our shared Cantonese backgrounds and even got to meet his aunt, who was visiting from California and happened to be sitting next to us. But the place was pretty empty, and I think I can understand why. The food here in my opinion is below average. I ordered a medium spice level Drunken Noodles with Chicken but I swear this was Extra Spicy--this is coming from a person that has a pretty high spice tolerance. Not only that, but it had a very tangy flavor to it as well. I've never had drunken noodles be this tangy. It did not taste right at all. This is one of my go to Thai dishes that I have ordered at many many restaurants. My husband got the Kob Kun Fried Rice. His dish was okay, but sort of strange. They kind of just plopped some crab on top (see pic) and didn't actually mix it into the fried rice. The crab they put on top was kind of cold, while the rest of the dish was hot. I thought that was odd. Even then it was better than my dish. So my husband, who has an higher spice tolerance than me, offered to swap dishes with me but even he could not handle it. It was spicy in a truly unenjoyable way. This sucks because I ordered a medium and they did not take that into account at all when making it. I had to do what I very rarely do--I asked if I could kindly send the dish back and I explained my issue. They were nice enough to let me order something different. I got the green curry with chicken. Sad thing is I got this mild in an effort to not have the spice issue again. However this time, my curry was completely sweet. I do actually like some spice in my thai food so this whole experience really sucked. I feel like I've made better thai curry at home, I will not be going back.
