I have always had good meals there. It's the only Japanese restaurant that has dark brown gravy for their Egg Foo Young. AND they use the dark meat of the chicken for many chicken dishes. Yummy. read more

We have been looking for a great Chinese restaurant for the last year and a half. My personal "go to" for a Chinese restaurant is great Crab Rangoons and Hot & Sour soup. They did not disappoint! I ordered the small soup and the Crab Rangoons, and I placed a To Go order For a large soup and Rangoons after eating lunch. My husband order Egg Foo Young and Won Ton soup. I raved to the woman who helped us, how delicious everything was and she said she would tell the chef. She offered a free egg roll for us to take with us as well. I tend to judge an Asian restaurant by the hot and sour soup I am served. There have been many, many disappointments from many restaurants, but I believe Nam Fongs is the best hot and sour soup I have found in many years. The food was honestly tasteless. The General Tso Chicken with shrimp fried rice had no flavor and the rice was SUPER DRY. The Chinese vegetables with the regular fried rice was flavorless too. The veggie spring rolls were good and the crab wonton were strange triangles, but tasted good- so I recommend fried stuff bc it's hard to screw that up. We will not be going back there. read more

I called for takeout about 20 minutes before they closed, and the woman who answered my phone graciously took my order. She made sure I'd be there prior to closing time. When I arrived, my food was ready and was even given extra fortune cookies and sauces upon request. My order was correct and the food was delicious! Leftovers were even better. We order the king pao chicken, honey chicken, spring rolls, and vegetable fried rice. I will note, the honey chicken comes already with the honey on it as well as sesame seeds, so if you have picky eaters this may pose a problem. I got to be honest I really did not expect much from this place. I was traveling to Bradington on business. Got in late and lots of the restaurants close early. I just happened across this place and I figured I'd give it a shot. I got an eggroll and the luncheon General Tso chicken with Pork fried rice. Little did I know this place was known for their eggrolls and I've got to tell you they aren't lying. That was a damn good eggroll. They also have their own homemade duck sauce. The General sows was very very good as was the fried rice and a huge portion that I couldn't even begin to finish even having two goes at it. They do have a sit down eating area but no one was there. We accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant after an afternoon of shopping. It is a small place, however there are about 14 tables. When we arrived we were surprised to find that there was a crowd standing at the door waiting to be seated. This isn't really a date night type of place, more of an eating establishment. Once the food arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Not only are the portions very generous, the food is very good. The curry chicken reminds me of home cooking, not at all Americanized. The mandarine Duck was by far the best duck I have ever had! For those of you that are gluten free, there are not a whole of of options a available for you. This place is HILARIOUS: #1 - It's a Chinese restaurant in Bradenton, FL #2 - Train of gray hair express out front at all times, they seriously need to rope it off (it's that bad). You would think it was a NYC nightclub for senior citizens. #3 - This place is cash only folks! If it is Asian, in my hood, family owned, and an hour wait; you know I HAVE to go there. Especially to find out what the big deal is, I am determined. I did not find out until my third attempt of actually getting a seat and eating there what all the hoopla is about. I know, I have issues. First time we went there, line out the door- did not eat there. Second time we went around 8:00pm and were able to eat there. I had the Nam Fong Soup with choice of chick or thin noodles. Which is a delicious bowl full of egg noodles covered in sweet and salty chicken broth with slices of gai lan leaves, scallion, char tsu pork, shrimp, and bean sprouts on top. It is pretty freaking good for Chinese American style food in Bradenton. Also had Lemon Duck, chunks of rubbery fried duck floating in beige tasteless gravy. I seriously think their steamed rice is Uncle Ben's by the long grain and the way it falls apart. Third time, I went with a friend and got there at 11:15 AM for lunch. Line out the door again! How many people eat lunch that early? I warned my workmate and we even left early. The people in line in front of us were talking up the egg rolls, which was a hunch. Waited fifteen minutes and went to another place for lunch. Fourth time, I was shopping with my husband in the same plaza and saw that Nam Fong did not have a line out the door. "We HAVE to eat there, there is no line!" *** I just had to try the eggroll. Finally found out what the big deal is. The Eggroll ($1.25 for one), is a little larger than average and is made in house. It is filled with ground pork, ginger, scallion, small amount of cabbage, garlic, carrot, onion, broccoli, and other seasonal vegetables that they have left over at the time. It is wrapped with a light crispy thin pastry and then BATTERED and deep fried. Located the source of the wait! Then, I turn around to notice that all of the customers are also eating 2-3 of these precious egg rolls each. Aside from my single eggroll, I had the Mongolian Beef which tasted homemade and was quite good, aside from being loaded with celery. Chicken with Broccoli, the chicken had hand shredded white meat so it was dry. Lunch Combo ($4.75) and Dinner Combo ($4.95-5.25) come with steamed or fried rice, no free eggroll. They specify no sharing; I guess there was a huge problem with people eating off of each others plates in the past. I have been back a couple times since, always right at 11:00 AM, or after 7:45 PM to be able to sit. The food tastes like homemade and can have less concentrated flavor due to this, since it is not loaded with MSG or dark soy. By no means is this place authentic, or as good as any of the wonderful places in Tampa like China Yuan or Ho Ho Choy, not as good as Lucky Star in Bradenton. The décor and building reminds me of a basement Chinatown NYC restaurant, without the authentic flavor. What can I say, it's old school Bradenton Chinese. Place has been around forever. I had been here over 10 years ago but wanted to return last night and was not disappointed. Nothing fancy at all here. But I love how simplistic and welcoming the staff is. Service was super fast and best of all, they serve their lunch menu all day. Some confusion We decided on Nam Fong last night for takeout, my first visit. We tracked down a menu and called in our order. I believe we all liked our food, I went with their Lemon Chicken and while I would have preferred a more citrusy flavored sauce, this was fine. There was a large portion of breaded chicken, plenty of food. It looked like portion size for all of the entrees was large. Nam Fong has tables for dining in as well as takeout, the place had a clean appearance with three rows of white tableclothed tables. There were only a few people remaining when I arrived 15 minutes before closing. I had two issues with Nam Fong, the second bigger than the first. The first was when I arrived an elderly couple had walked in ahead of me. Even though they arrived 15 minutes before closing it was apparent they were not going to be seated. If they wanted takeout than sure, but no dining in, it was too close to closing. I found that poor, turning away customers who arrived during normal business hours. Figure out when you want to close and accept customers up to that time. The second problem was more serious, and I'll take some of the blame. I was given the wrong takeout order. I could have realized 'my food' was less expensive than it should have been by enough that alarm bells should have gone off in my head. That said, I still ended up walking out of their restaurant with the wrong bags. Once we realized we didn't have the right food and talked with the restaurant, they asked us to being the food back and get the right stuff. They were very, very apologetic for the mistake. It was all inconvenient for us, the time we expected to save by bring food in rather than eating out was lost straightening this out. read more

Pulled up (lots of parking) and ordered inside, the lady that helped me was really great (she called me "baby girl") and suggested I add an egg roll ( which I did) and it was THE best egg roll ever! (Yes, I ate it on the drive home). Ordered to go: Pork w/ vegetables, black bean chicken, and garlic chicken (good size portions, tasted great, lots of fresh veggies). Nam Fong is the hidden gem of Bradenton. Having been opened for decades now, I have frequented this family-owned establishment since I was in elementary school. Nam Fong is cheap, fast, and delicious. It's always busy with locals. The regulars interact with the family who runs the restaurant, on a first name basis. There's something on the menu for everyone. It's your average Chinese takeout place, but there's something about the dishes that elevate them. I don't know if it's nostalgia for me, but my family and I return to this restaurant almost every week- dine in or take out. Nam Fong is cash only. Closed on Mondays. Our family has been going to Nam Fong for literally decades. It went through a rough patch when the owner died and then Covid, but seems to have mostly come through it. Currently take out only because they can't find workers. We just got takeout (Cashew Chicken with white rice and Chicken with Vegetables and fried rice). It was delicious as usual (didn't get the egg roll because I can't have fried) and plentiful. I'm happy, where else can you feed two and have enough for another meal for $27 read more

Today was the first time that we were totally dissatisfied with our whole order! The steak sticks were very well done and chewy, egg rolls appear to be different than other times, less flavor and the pork fried rice was just warm.
